We Need A New Beginning!

Dr. Michael LaitmanHolidays and special days described in Kabbalah are not dates on the regular calendar, but the attainment of one’s own, special, personal states where a person makes a fundamental inner calculation with himself. If a person reaches this calculation, it means he really has a new beginning, called the new year, Rosh Hashanah. And accordingly, he attains the holiday prayer.

Every holiday is a spiritual calculation and a prayer because there is nothing besides the correction of our desires. But the beginning of the new year is special because it comes after many discernments. It comes only once a person has checked himself completely, discerning all of the desires that become revealed to him, because every higher level includes all of the previous ones as a tiny part of it.

However, when a person makes a calculation with all of his actions and thoughts, he sees that he did not attain success, that he does not advance because he wasn’t created for spiritual ascension at all. He is then overcome by burdensome thoughts about spirituality and by doubt and envy toward others. He wants to be above them and thinks, “Why them and not me?”

After many calculations like this, having become completely lost in them, he finally feels that he needs a new beginning. There is no way out because all of these calculations, discernments, criticisms, envy, and hatred do not change for years. And the only thing left for him is prayer, a cry for help because only the upper force can help. This inner cry is called the prayer of Rosh Hashanah, the new beginning.

Before this happens, a person seems himself as completely lost. He sees that the whole world disagrees with what he is doing and he himself also does not understand what is happening to him or what this path is. All of this criticism comes from his egoism.

That is why the prayer talks about reminders, the need to analyze all of one’s desires and actions, and about blowing into the horn (Shofar) because we have to elevate our spiritual path regardless of anything (in Aramaic, Shufra means beauty). That is when one has to turn to the primary sources in order to advance.

There are many opinions and people in the world influencing a person, imbuing him with their thoughts, and pulling him in different directions. Yet one has to place a strict judge above himself and constantly verify himself with the primary sources to the extent one understands what is written there. In spite of one’s ego, one’s desire to rise, profit, and become higher than others, one should strive for the opposite, wishing to acquire only the force of bestowal and to dissolve in the nation within which the Creator dwells.

The Adapter Between Me And The New World

Dr. Michael LaitmanWe already understand that we are all connected by a close mutual bond and that this connection works in the world differently than in the past. A new condition, a new coefficient, has been added to our interrelationships, which we still cannot take into account because of our nature. We are not familiar with the system we have been hurled into, and so we cannot do anything about it.

Therefore, Kabbalists say: We should first learn what the system is and understand the situation. Then will we know how to arrange our life.

We cannot continue to advance by our own powers. If we refuse to learn, we will learn by terrible blows that will show us how stubborn and ignorant we are. In any case, we will have to “go back to school” and study the science of Kabbalah. It wasn’t given to us without reason—it is about the system of reality opposite to us, about the upper world.

We should not delude ourselves: By studying this system, we will not be able to correct the financial system or find new business management methods under the new conditions. With the study of the science of Kabbalah  we will only realize that we must ask for the power of correction.

The method of Kabbalah will not enable us to continue “improving” the world by our merciless egoism. It will only enable us to acquire a new power, the power of bestowal, in addition to our power of receiving. Only when the power of bestowal dominates the power of bestowal will we know what to do with ourselves and with the world.

The wisdom of Kabbalah is not a practical manual for solving all problems by using the usual egotistic approach. The studies will only show us how to ask for an internal change. Only having changed internally will we understand what to do with the world.

This is why the method of Kabbalah had to be revealed externally, artificially. It doesn’t grow in us naturally from within. It is given to us from the outside so that we will exert effort and ask to correct ourselves.

Here we are given free will: I am facing a new system, a new method, and now I have to develop the will to change inside me. I am in my ego facing a new system, a new world. The science of Kabbalah is what adapts me to the new world. It helps me reach a state in which I ask for correction. Then I will change: Besides my egoism, I will also have the attribute of bestowal, and I will understand how to approach the new world correctly.

Cursory Thoughts On Shamati, “There Is None Else Besides Him”

Dr. Michael LaitmanWe must always know one thing: There is one cause, one force that influences and governs us. It has a beginning and an end, and there is a process whereby it advances us. Nobody can influence it; nobody can confuse or change it. This force is absolute.

We can only change ourselves so as to perceive its influence in a better, more pleasant way that is also closer to this force. To the extent that we identify with it and become like it, we will understand, feel, and act in congruence with it, in harmony and equivalence of form, what we refer to as “adhesion.”

In that case, we are prepared to accept everything it subjects us to and greet it with the right feeling, in full partnership, acting in unison with it. There is only one governance. There is nothing else that could be our root.

The Purpose Of Creation, In Brief

Dr. Michael LaitmanAlthough we exist in the space of the world of Infinity, we are unable to perceive anything of it except for a tiny black point that is unaware even of itself. This is how the Creator made us. And then He started to restrict Himself. As He restricts Himself, we manifest more and more.

The Creator conceals Himself from 100 to zero percent, forming the worlds of Adam Kadmon, Atzilut, Beria, Yetzira, and Assiya, the 125 degrees of restriction, the Creator’s concealment. To this extent, the creature reveals itself and its world more and more, from zero to 100 percent, and this constitutes the degrees of the creature by which it manifests more and more, until it finds itself in our world. Meanwhile, the Creator is concealed.

Now, we have to perform the correction. I have to gradually, step by step, reveal the Creator, meaning to discover Him within myself so as to not be opposite to Him, so that there would be no barrier separating us, so that I would encompass all of His qualities until they enter me, degree after degree.

We can depict it differently: I absorb into myself the properties of the Creator, and they enter inside my point, my Reshimo (informational gene), more and more.

Most important is to adhere to precise definitions. We exist in that same space, in that same place, in the same conditions. From the part of the Creator, the upper Light, nothing changes. Everything depends only on how we incorporate into ourselves His qualities—the qualities of love and bestowal, of expansion and unlimited connection, so that all the properties called love and bestowal that constitute the nature of Light enter us. Then we will sense the state that we truly exist in.

We can’t change anything: We exist in that same place, among the same forces. There is a program that advances us towards development under the influence of great pressures we feel from outside and inside. But we can add to it our own development, to decide that we desire it, and then to develop quickly, nicely, and with joy. This is the entire difference.

Nobody had asked us either in the beginning or in the end of the process, nobody is taking us into consideration—except for that mechanical force that develops us. Indeed, the Creator has no feelings like ours, as it is said: “The law is given and cannot be transgressed.” But we, as sensual and fine creatures, can use this law effectively for it help us to develop quickly, nicely, and easily.

Hence, all we do is reveal a perfect reality—the world of Infinity, the Creator, and it is happening namely in our generation.

Light Is The Music Of The Soul

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: I understand why fulfillment is concealed from us, but why are our connections with one another concealed from us?

Answer: Connection and fulfillment are inseparable.

What is the Light? How can we explain what sensation is? Suddenly I feel some kind of vibrations in relation to someone: hatred, love, fear, care. These vibrations did not come from outside, but were born inside of me, inside of my attitude to that person.

They emerge because I establish a special connection with him and work on it. Then, when I connect with him, I feel special impressions, like vibrations inside my desires, sensations, and qualities. This is called Light.

The Light does not come from outside in order to dress into me, but becomes revealed inside of me, in my attitude to someone. It cannot be revealed “out of the blue.” That is impossible. It can only be felt in my connection with someone else, such as when I give him a sensation and he receives it, or vice versa.

There has to be a connection uniting two people, inside of which some kind of vibration or impression is felt, called the Light. It’s like a cord or a tube connecting us that extends from one to the other through which an electrical current flows.

It turns out that the Light is the vessel that feels all kinds of changes inside itself. It’s not the actual Light that changes, but the desires and the impressions experienced in the desires. But no Light comes from outside.

It’s like a vibration of a string that produces the voice of a musical instrument. This is called the Light. Therefore, we have to create love and bestowal inside of us ourselves, and then inside of this love and bestowal we will feel its inner root, called the Creator.

Questions About The Group, Suffering, And The Crisis

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: If I start to correct in my little group and my group is doing well together, what impact will that tiny particle of the total population have on the rest of the world if the majority of people still stubbornly refuse to change internally and connect?

Answer: Since we are all connected into one general creation, by this you evoke in them the circulation of the Light, and they awaken for spiritual attainment—the property of love and bestowal.

Question: Are there any questions or methods that can awaken people’s point in the heart and make them ask about the purpose of life? Or does it depend only on the amount of suffering?

Question: The question about the meaning and life and suffering.

Question: What should the government in the UK do to stop the riots?

Answer: Start educating the entire nation: pay those who study and train them to be teachers. We have prepared the methodology for this and are successfully applying it in practice.

The Creator Is Not A Person

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: How does a person form the quality of bestowal within?

Answer: There is no Creator without the creature. And the Creator is that very quality of bestowal that we form. If we don’t form it, the Creator doesn’t exist.

What does exist, then? There is His unattainable essence, Atzmuto, the original root of everything, which is utterly unconnected to us. We form and construct the Creator by exerting efforts and producing the quality of bestowal. We generate this quality by the common work between us. If we actualize and beget it, that is what will be called “the Creator.”

The spiritual Partzuf we construct in the relationships between us is our desire to receive that we have restricted and filled with the Reflected Light, the desire to bestow, and together with it, revealed within the quality of bestowal called “the Creator.”

In other words, “the Creator” is the Light of NRNHY that we reveal in our spiritual vessels corrected to bestow. In reality, “the Creator” is the common Light of NRNHY that we ultimately attain. Baal HaSulam writes that the general Light of NRNHY that fills Malchut of the world of Infinity is called “the Creator.” And that the smaller portions at the intermediary stages are degrees of His attainment.

The Creator is not a person; He has no individual characteristics or image. This is why you cannot turn to Him for you are the one who constructs Him. The Creator has no form—you are the one who gives Him form. Over your desire to receive you place the corresponding desire to bestow, and it means that you have constructed the Creator. There is no other way.

If you think that the Creator has a form before you have constructed it, that means you worship a certain image, an idol. This is the meaning of “alien work” or idol-worshipping.

These are the principles of the right attitude toward nature. This is why you cannot picture various images or resemblances to yourself. This was Abraham’s first discovery, when he “broke the idols,” meaning he realized that he was the one forming the quality of bestowal. And until then there exists only a certain original root that we cannot imagine in any way.

A Science Of A Successful Future

Dr. Michael LaitmanMany people think that the wisdom of Kabbalah speaks about “the number of angels in the sky and their names,” about certain vague and distant notions that have nothing to do with us. It takes a long time for a person who comes to study Kabbalah to rid himself of all these stereotypes. We do not learn a new approach to reality; we are not brought up in this spirit.

Now, as the crisis gradually unfolds, we will feel a persistent need to discover how to settle in the world, in life, in a new connection between people, which we must become aware of if we want to survive in this world, and thus we will become acquainted with this wisdom that teaches us to create a proper connection between us. We must do it in order to control our everyday life, to come out of the crisis in all areas of education, family relationships, science, the economy, and our relationship with nature that continues to inflict blows on us.

For this reason we must identify the problem in order to get rid of it or work it out one way or another; otherwise, we will constantly suffer. Our desire to receive pleasure compels us to find the cause of all our suffering. Gradually we’ll discover that the reason is in the fact that people are connected incorrectly, badly, that the egoistic connections we have developed over the course of thousands of years do not work any longer and even cause harm.

First of all, we always believed it was better to be an egoist, everyone on his own; that we had to build a consumer society; that each person could enjoy to the extent of his ability to use and deceive others for his own benefit, and as long as he followed the rules and avoided prison or punishment, he could do so and rule.

But now a new system is being revealed and it’s telling us: “No! That same tendency, that egoistic approach, that same attitude, will no longer work. There needs to be a different attitude. The previous system was individualistic, and we were not dependent on one another. Now, we have reached the end of our individual, personal development. Like sprouts emerging from the ground, we too have grown and hit the ceiling; there’s no more room for us to grow.

Since we’ve reached our ‘ceiling,’ we now need to connect with each other. It is a different system of existence. Do you want to exist? If you do, then you need to be more connected with each other.”

It is difficult for us to imagine such a system. We only notice our incapability to achieve anything. Through suffering, we gradually discover the true state of affairs. This is why in the end, the wisdom of Kabbalah also reveals itself.

Then, instead of “heavenly angels” and various strange and unfamiliar words, we gradually, with difficulty, begin to realize that Kabbalah tells us about the structure of the connection between us, the way to attain this proper connection, and become part of it. It explains to us the extent to which our attitude towards this proper connection determines our future, so much so that we no longer need to work as before, mostly physically, but we need to begin to work largely in our intentions.

We won’t need to reinvent our lives or the world, use different mechanisms, equipment, or technologies; instead, everything will shift towards our relationships and the connections between us. And the outcome will depend on the quality of our connection.

Once thousands of people worked in fields and millions worked in factories, plants, and industries, but today we discover that people have nowhere to work; they can only work on strengthening the connection between us in a virtual, internal way. This specifically will determine our success in manufacturing, exporting, importing, in everything we need in order to arrange our corporeal lives. We will continue to shift our view and direction to our inner relationship because there we will reveal a truly perfect and new world.

To attain the revelation of these states gradually, step by step, we read The Zohar. It is the best book for opening our hearts, mind, eyes, and ears so we can start feeling how much we depend on the network of connections between us.

How Are We Different?

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: Without mentioning the science of Kabbalah in our dissemination, we are simply telling people that mutual guarantee will provide them with a good life. In that case, how are we different from other organizations that hand out similar promises?

Answer: It’s bad if you don’t feel the difference.

The modern person is experiencing a global, integral crisis. In this way, the Creator is showing him that he is connected with others the wrong way and that he has to reach mutual guarantee. There is a method that will help him unite with others correctly and to start living a good life. This method operates by creating the appropriate atmosphere, a “shell” out of the environment, which gives a person the explanation of how to live together and lead a good, healthy, safe life.

A person hears this and understands that there is no other solution. And others hear the same thing, so it’s easier to make this happen conjointly, together with them. A person learns to unite with others the right way, and in the process he attracts the Light that reforms to himself. This is the same thing that children do while playing, becoming older and smarter in the process.

Thus, when a person finds himself in a bad situation, he uses others to attract the Light, and gradually he starts valuing the force of bestowal. He holds it in high regard and it becomes the highest value for him. And suddenly he begins respecting it so much that even when everything in his life is going ok, he does not abandon bestowal, wishing to enact it regardless of his sensations. That’s because he attributes the primary importance to it.

That is how a person becomes spiritual, going from the egoistic intention, Lo Lishma to the altruistic one, Lishma. And there is no chance that 99% of the population will reach correction in any other way. Can you recommend anything else besides the Torah?

I think the problem is an elementary misunderstanding of how to advance AHP. We have known how to correct Galgalta Eynaim since the times of Babylon, but to correct AHP, this is the only means we have.
