Symbiosis of the Right and Left Lines

562.02Question: You said that not everyone has the left line. What is the advantage of having or not having it?

Answer: In principle, everyone has a soul consisting of two parts: the quality of bestowal (right line) and the quality of reception (left line). However, it can be that there is no third line in its explicit form. The third line aligns both lines, i.e., two opposite qualities in a person and gives the result. It builds out of it the image of “human” person.

There are souls in which this is clearly expressed and there are souls in which this is not. Just like the organs in our body there are more important ones and less important ones. There are some that develop in utero in a certain order faster than others, and there are those that even seem to appear like some kind of tail or other rudimentary organs. That is, a person in his intrauterine development simultaneously undergoes an internal development.

Thus, when organs develop in a person, each of them is important in itself. Although there are more important and less important ones, in the end they are one system.

There are no more important or less important things in the spiritual world because from the point of view of similarity to the Creator if you lack some cell in your body, it means that you are not similar to Him. According to this rule, there are no insignificant things in spirituality because spirituality is perfection. If a point is missing, then this is already imperfection.

Therefore, we must understand the importance of every person in the world. Each thing in the universe has its own clear purpose and it is forbidden to destroy it. Everything that is given by nature must exist.

Comment: You said that the Creator is the right line and that the middle line does not exist.

My Response: Yes, but when the quality of bestowal has to be adapted within us, it cannot be received only in the right line. Where is the quality of reception?

The right line is only the quality of bestowal, so the left line is necessary. The left one is only reception; it can only be the opposite of the Creator. Then the middle line arises, which—on the basis of this symbiosis, this connection, the mutual penetration of two lines into each other during shattering, during correction, and during mutual integration with each other—begins to work.

Question: Does it mean that striving is important, without leaving the left line one should strive toward the right one?

Answer: Yes. If you take the left line and go with it to the right one, you get the middle line.

“Why do we need technology even though we know it will harm us in the future?” (Quora)

Dr. Michael LaitmanMichael Laitman, On Quora: Why do we need technology even though we know it will harm us in the future?

We initially take examples from nature, that what we see in nature we also wish to implement, and in so doing, we need naturalists and scientists who are interested to recreate what is in nature into mechanics. However, other people then come along who have no concern about nature, and who want to use these mechanics in order to conquer and control, which is where the good intentions end.

In short, it is our nature to take things that we create with seemingly good intentions, and hand them over to those who use them for power and exploitative purposes. We agree to it because those who enter such positions of power know how to manipulate others, and together with their power, they gain armies and money. Those who simply want to know how the world works are naïve and kind; they have nothing but their brains and weak hands.

We will continue bearing witness to such a process until we correct human nature, i.e. until we invert it from egoistic—desiring to benefit ourselves at the expense of others—to altruistic. It is possible to make that change, and by doing so, we will become like the general altruistic force of nature, and then experience life in nature’s wholeness and perfection.

When we establish such a connection with nature, we will then use nature by truly imitating it. Without imitating nature by first changing our nature to match it, we will end up enduring a long and painful path of suffering, and still carry the obligation to change ourselves at some point.

Technology has expanded globally, showing how much more interconnected and interdependent we are today than ever before, and we will keep seeing ourselves become increasingly tied together on this small planet so much so that we will feel no way to escape. We will continue becoming more and more dependent on each other until we reach a stage where we will see that we will be unable to go to war with each other, or do any kinds of crimes.

At the same time, we will appear as everyone’s enemies. The world will appear to keep shrinking, and we will understand that we harm everyone through our inborn egoistic intentions toward each other, and we will not give ourselves such a chance. Within such a tension, nature’s positive forces will emerge and change humanity, inverting our attitudes to make our connection positive and balanced with nature.

The first stage toward that change will be when we become afraid of breaking positive human connections. In the wisdom of Kabbalah, this state is called “restriction,” i.e. where we restrict the use of our egoism, our desires to enjoy at the expense of others. We will have to restrict our egoism otherwise we will receive more and more blows.

“What is your review of the NGL app?” (Quora)

Dr. Michael LaitmanMichael Laitman, On Quora: What is your review of the NGL app?

One of my students recently asked me about a phenomenon related to the NGL app: that it lets its users express their opinions anonymously, and it became a place where people curse, threaten and express themselves in the most aggressive ways possible. It is clear that by becoming anonymous, we feel freer to express our evil.

My student asked me: Are there any benefits to everyone being able to freely express their evil? The only benefit is that it leads us to recognize that we are indeed evil and that we will exploit anything we invent as a means to harm each other.

We seemingly invent something good—an app that lets people express their opinions without any policing of their thoughts—and then the evils of human nature reveal themselves. It then becomes one of many tools in our hands that advance us toward realizing the evils of our human nature, that human nature is a negative quality that wishes to benefit at the expense of others.

My student then proceeded to ask me why we are made in such a way, and why a good and loving creative force would create such evil and bad beings? It is because from such a corrupt being eventually comes good.

The good that will emerge is a state where we will all feel completely good, eternal and perfect. While we are in the egoistic evil force, we are held back from feeling the true goodness in reality, but we can reveal how we are held back in a positive way by learning and understanding how our nature works, and how it develops toward an inversion to a good and harmonious state. Doing so is similar to coming downhill in a car, with our foot on the brakes, keeping that motion gradual, otherwise we will lose control of the wheel. That is what lies ahead of us.

Zohar—Myths and Legends

65Question: There are several stories around The Book of Zohar. Which of them is reliable?

Answer: It is unknown. Since this Book was hidden for a long time, I do not believe in any assumptions, except for what real Kabbalists say: the Ari and Baal HaSulam.

Rabbi Shimon is buried on Mount Meron. This is what it is. I know only one thing: Rabash went to the grave of Rabbi Shimon, and I felt from him how high he rises, adhering to the source.

He never went anywhere else: not to the Wailing Wall or the graves of Rambam, Ramchal, or Rabbi Akiva; only Rabbi Shimon. For him, it was just recumbency.

Question: Rabbi Shimon was Rabbi Akiva’s student. At what age did he begin to study with him?

Answer: At that time they used to begin at a very early age. In principle, he studied all his life, but I do not know at what age he began. As a rule, children began to seriously study the Torah from the age of three. This is what is written in The Introduction to The Study of the Ten Sefirot, as well as in the scriptures, that a man is obliged to teach his son the properties of bestowal from the age of three.

Comment: I have heard two versions of how Rabbi Shimon became Rabbi Akiva’s student. The first is that he had outstanding abilities still in early childhood. The second is that he came to study when he had already married, and Rabbi Akiva did not want to accept him. Then Rabbi Shimon began to allegedly threaten him that he would tell the Romans about his studies of the Torah, and then he accepted him.

My Response: Personally, I have not read about it and I do not even want to read about it. What difference does it make to me? We are talking about a person’s inner attainment.

I do not look at this world in its animal shells. What difference does it make what is happening in them?! I look at this world only from the point of view of the forces that govern it and determine everything. Why should I look at something that makes no sense and does not exist on its own?

Comment: But these stories are told to the students of Kabbalah when they are taken on a tour of Mount Meron.

My Response: They are told this in order to draw people to a more internal study. What can you do? A person should be gradually drawn to attainment. Start teaching quantum physics to beginners and tell them that there is no time, no distance, no movement, that everything is eternity, infinity. Try to explain the quantum world to them. How many people in the world understand it at all? And spirituality is even higher.

“Why is there so much hate towards Israel?” (Quora)

Dr. Michael LaitmanMichael Laitman, On Quora: Why is there so much hate towards Israel?

The source of the hatred against Israel is that we, the people of Israel, reject and hate each other. And as much as we hate each other, the nations of the world hate us even more.

If we related to one another more considerately, the world’s attitude toward us would change accordingly. It is because our nation is rooted in the attainment of nature’s positive force—a force of love, bestowal and connection—and if we block this force’s entrance into the world by acting oppositely to it—with hatred and rejection of each other—then the nations of the world feel us as clogging an abundance of delight from flowing onto them. They then instinctively attribute the suffering they increasingly endure in life as somehow connected to Jews. Antisemitic sentiment then cooks within them while increasingly erupting in an exponential increase of antisemitism crimes and threats worldwide.

If we realize what made us the people of Israel to begin with, by implementing the attitude of “love your friend as yourself” among each other, then we would see the hatred toward Israel invert into an attitude of love and respect for a people that let the positive forces of love, bestowal and connection flow into the world; a people who elevate humanity to a higher level of unity, harmony and peace.

“Is it wrong for a mother to steal baby food when not having enough money for it?” (Quora)

Dr. Michael LaitmanMichael Laitman, On Quora: Is it wrong for a mother to steal baby food when not having enough money for it?

A broke mother stealing baby food is a clear example of a situation where a person has no choice. Such a state is terrible, and it is a shame that it could play out in a society that simultaneously wastes millions of dollars daily on unnecessary nonsense.

It shows us that our hearts lack connection. We could open a million charities with an abundance of funds, and gather large amounts of people to take care of the needy, and we would still find more and more babies in need nonetheless.

Why? It is because we lack a heart-to-heart connection. We as a society fail to develop such a connection, and we suffer in various ways as a result.

We lack a collective understanding of the primary need to repair human relations, and to build a society based on such relations. Instead of raising human consciousness, we dry up, becoming worse and more distant from each other, and so we bear witness to such phenomena in our times as mothers stealing baby food when not having enough money to pay for it.

“Should Jews be considered a nation?” (Quora)

Dr. Michael LaitmanMichael Laitman, On Quora: Should Jews be considered a nation?

“Love your friend as yourself” makes Jews a nation. In other words, what makes Jews a nation is loving every Jew.

Among Jews is where the unifying process in humanity begins, and then the whole of humanity will also unite.

We need to discover that every person is like our own sibling, a part of our soul. It is because we—all people—are parts of one soul.

And Jews need to start the correction process of shifting from humanity’s current egoistic level—where we desire to enjoy at the expense of each other and nature—to a level of connection fueled by nature’s forces of love and bestowal. When we realize the unity based on the core connecting force in nature, the nations of the world will also feel it and will happily also unite.

Therefore, as we progress from our current state, we need to encourage each other to be “as one man with one heart,” to teach our unifying principle in schools, and present it in a wide variety of formats throughout our communication systems. We need to fill the air with the spirit of unity because our life depends on it.

The Effect of Similarity to Nature

571.03Question: Do I understand correctly that integral education is the creation of a network that can later absorb the upper light coming through other people?

Answer: Of course! Certainly. If an equivalence to nature arises in you, then you already have replenishment from above, and the whole huge integral nature acts in unison with you and holds you.

You begin to feel it, breathe together with it, and receive thoughts and feelings from it. When you work in unison with it, you feel that this is the way to do it, while that way isn’t worth doing; here you need to increase, and here you need to reduce something. In general, you begin to feel what nature requires of us.

We explain this to society in the words of our world and they do not need to know that it comes from the hidden laws of the physical world. What difference does it make to an ordinary person who uses electronic devices how they work? Does he understand something about this? He presses certain buttons, and that’s it! Today, a child is happy to work with mobile phones or with any device at all. And what does he know at the same time?!

We don’t know what an electric current is or about the interaction of fields and so on. But we know how to use it. We have learned: “That is this way! And this is that way.” Good. And so it goes. That is, we know what relates to what we use. And we don’t know anything about this nature; it flies somewhere to an otherworldly, foreign region.

To date there are certain studies and effects that are based on knowledge of Einstein’s theory of relativity. And so what if we don’t clearly understand how it works above the speed of light or at the speed of light?! In our world, everything is under the speed of light. Above the speed of light is the next world, the next degree.

Therefore it is enough for a simple person to know that by uniting we arouse in ourselves a common force, the wisdom of the crowd, together with nature. This is provable, and that’s enough for us. It works, and that’s it! This is considered a law of physics.

And we do not understand the inner force of the law at all or its basis. We study only the consequences. A certain mass is attracted by the Earth with a certain force; we calculate the formula and everything is ready! And we use it. This is called our knowledge.

No matter how much we explore our knowledge, it is always limited, always in matter. In other words, we always study only the consequences of some effects that are not felt by themselves. We feel only the effects, but not the force itself, for instance, electric current, magnetic waves, or the gravitational field.

Therefore, people need to know only one rule. When a crowd gathers and becomes organized, certain effects arise in it, the effect of increased wisdom, increased impressionability, increased strength, and increased mental ability to predict, see, and feel. At the same time mutual assistance increases the potential strength of this group, and so on. In this way we raise ourselves to the next degree.

“Does the brain solve problems while we sleep?” (Quora)

Dr. Michael LaitmanMichael Laitman, On Quora: Does the brain solve problems while we sleep?

Our brain never stops running. It only completely shuts down when we die.

While we sleep, we do not absorb external interfering impressions from our five senses, and so our brain organizes the various impressions it previously received according to an assortment of levels and connections, and it also makes room for future impressions that will enter the following day.

When we are asleep, we subconsciously scrutinize situations we went through and organize them for the next day. We might not feel such phenomena the next day, but they pass through, act and prepare us for it. The next day we wake up as new people with different impressions from the previous day. Even if we might not feel them, they nonetheless accumulate gradually.

In such a way, at each and every moment, we become new people as a result of this mechanism that scrutinizes what we went through. It supplements what we previously had and prepares us for the next day.

The Upper Light Is the Guarantor of Spiritual Connection

938.04Question: There are different types of connections between people in the world. What is the difference between them and Kabbalistic connection? Why don’t they work the same way as in Kabbalah?

Answer: Because that is not the kind of connection that attracts the upper light.

There are many connections in the world. Various socialist, national socialist, Nazi, communist, collective farms, kibbutzes, and other unions do not attract the upper light, which would correct and elevate people. These connections are located and end at the earthly level.

And for spiritual connection, it is necessary to attract the upper light. Otherwise, all our efforts and attempts will end at the degree of this world. We see how any currents arise, be they fanatical, religious, social, political, or whatever. They flare up and extinguish. Each has its own expiration date. But all of them are slowly forming humanity, which is working out its social resource.

And all these movements, wave after wave, gradually lead humanity to despair. Who believes in any movements today, in new parties? Everyone understands that all this is a corrupt thing, all this is from egoism, all this will end if not today then tomorrow, just wait.

We see that everything is getting old. Even such fundamentalist movements in which billions of people are involved and which feed each other with fanaticism, hatred, and irritate themselves from the inside, still slowly slide off their peak and can’t do anything about it because egoism takes its toll. Its form should be transformed into the final one.

These currents do not understand that the final form is set and they will still be obliged to come to it. So they are not going anywhere! As a result, all their plans will be ruined.
