New Life 615 – Learning To Be Human

New Life 615 – Learning To Be Human
Dr. Michael Laitman in conversation with Oren Levi and Yael Leshed-Harel

We don’t build schools that are suitable for children; we treat them like bottles on an assembly line. So the school is not a good place, a place full of anxiety, pain, arguments, aggression, and competition.

We don’t build human beings; we don’t teach them how to relate to one another or how to choose a profession that is right for them. We don’t create a sense of togetherness and connecting to each other at the time of study, and thus we see the outcome in our society.

The value we should educate children according to today is to be a human being. We have to teach them about relationships between people and social psychology.

We need to start by training parents so that our children can receive a new education. Through discussion circles, joint discussions, and games children should learn proper social interactions. The school of the future will look very different from today’s schools. One third of the time will be devoted to discussion circles. Another third of the time will be devoted to visiting different places, while the last third will be devoted to classic studies of elementary subjects like mathematics, etc. When children visit different places outside the school, they will learn different things that they will perceive differently.

The most important thing a child should learn is how to become a human being who is part of society, a human being that can communicate with everyone. A good student will be one who learns how to get along with others everywhere and who has the right social relations. A person who knows how to properly connect to others will succeed in life in everything he does everywhere. In the future the most highly demanded profession will be a social guide, an expert who can teach people how to get along with each other.

New Life 616 – The Refugee Crisis In Europe

New Life 616 – The Refugee Crisis In Europe
Dr. Michael Laitman in conversation with Oren Levi and Tal Mandelbaum ben Moshe

Anyone who claims that we should help the refugees is welcome to open his home to them. Words will not help here. Not only is Greece in trouble, but strong countries like Germany and France cannot handle the refugee crisis either.

Why is this happening today? Because the world is taking on a new shape without borders; everything is involved and everything is round. Imagine meeting strangers in your kitchen; someone sleeping in your bed. It is frightening! There is nowhere to run. There is no place on the globe where you can be alone, not even 10 square meters of quiet.

Why do we feel this way? It is in order to acknowledge our obligation to change our nature and break our internal limits. Nature obliges us to develop to a level where we will feel that we are all one heart, one body, and one thought. The corrections we haven’t done in our relations are forced upon us now by the steamroller of development.

It is actually the individualistic Europeans who are given such a pressing situation with the refugees. Nature forces us to change our attitude to strangers, as if they were our kids, to “love thy friend as thyself.” What is more, there will also be financial blows and different natural disasters that will teach us that we are in the same boat and that’s it! Then the world will demand a solution from Israel because the solution is in the wisdom of Kabbalah, the wisdom of connection.

The refugee crisis in Europe is not a passing wave, but part of an intentional series of blows that will force all of us to correct ourselves. The mixing of the world populations will wash the world: South Americans will flood North America and Muslims will be everywhere in the world.

The Europeans will feel that they cannot go on like that unless we change our attitude to others. Then they will be worthy of the correction of human nature and will feel that the people of Israel have the method of correction. When we develop the ability to feel that we are all one family life in our world will become heaven.

New Life 623 – The Software Of Life

New Life 623 – The Software Of Life
Dr. Michael Laitman in conversation with Oren Levi and Yael Leshed-Harel

If we knew from the previous New Year that this would be our year, would we have accepted it?

But it doesn’t depend on us, for “Against your will you live” (Pirkei Avot 4:22). In addition, we don’t know what will happen in another moment. Toward what are we developing? We are living within a general program that acts on us at each and every moment. The wisdom of Kabbalah investigates this program, the forces above our universe.

Throughout our lives we develop unconsciously. Negative forces push us forward. The goal that nature has prepared for us is our unlimited development, and this requires a transformation of characteristics.

Our general characteristic is a desire to receive for ourselves; we run after all kinds of things and exhaust ourselves. In fact we are now living in hell, and paradise, another world, is really close to here. To enter into the second world, it is up to us to learn to open our heart to others and connect with them.

The final objective of development that nature has defined for humanity is the acquisition of a new characteristic, a desire to bestow. Nothing will be changed for the future human except relationships with others. He will feel that what is outside of him is as he is. The future human will develop through internal technology. He will learn how to accept the higher state. There is a psychological hurdle that one must go through to feel the new world. Israel is the place where the future human will begin to develop.

New Life 695 – The Influence Of Intention On Reality

New Life 695 – The Influence of Intention on Reality
Dr. Michael Laitman in conversation with Oren Levi and Tal Mandelbaum ben Moshe

The more a person directs himself, the more he prepares himself, the better results he will get. Kabbalists have other intentions; they work with a unique power, the upper force that depicts all of reality for us. In every situation they experience, whether it is internal or external, they must determine that “There is none else beside Him” (Deuteronomy 4:35) and that He is good that does good.

Kabbalah teaches us how to build intentions and to begin to identify the higher power, transcending feelings. When we recognize the force that is acting within all of reality, intentions of bestowal and love for everyone, of “And you shall love your friend as yourself” (Leviticus 19:18), that is born in us and the desire to sustain everything, disregarding nothing, and relating to everything with goodness. All of reality is created from a single force of bestowal and love; we have the ability to recognize this while we are alive. This supreme intention is called, “And you shall love your friend as yourself,” and loving means wanting to benefit, an intention which is found above a desire for pleasure and which manages it. This is an intelligent act clothed in emotion.

New Life 694 – The Power Of Intention

New Life 694 – The Power of Intention
Dr. Michael Laitman in conversation with Oren Levi and Tal Mandelbaum ben Moshe

It is written “Last in action, first in thought” (Lecha Dodi); so people who want to realize life begin to clarify what their intention must be, what is the highest intention appropriate for me? What is the highest thing for which it is worthwhile to live? When we were young we asked ourselves questions like these and later we forgot; we flow through life on “autopilot.”

The wisdom of Kabbalah speaks about intentions and explains that we are living within intention. We are built according to a desire for pleasure and intention is clothed on that, while we have the ability to control intention and change reality. The reality that we feel at present remains and a new reality called the upper world is added to it. Higher, spiritual intentions are intentions to bestow goodness, love, and connection to others. The intention that is directed within me creates the image of this world, and intentions directed outside of me create the upper world. Most people live without thinking about their intentions and without clarifying why they are living.

New Life 693 – Love Of The World

New Life 693 – Love Of The World
Dr. Michael Laitman in conversation with Oren Levi and Yael Leshed-Harel

All of us have been connected with each other since the moment creation began to evolve because we come from a single source. That single source wants us to evolve, like a father and mother, it wants us to attain everything good, love. Nature provides us with the example of a mother’s love, from the moment a new life comes to exist in her, a feeling of love is also born in her. Love is expressed through filling another with what is good for him, with what he loves, what he lacks. If we were to love many people and were able to give, we would have unlimited pleasure. Therefore we have been commanded, “And you shall love” (Leviticus 19:18).

We are all a single soul, but this is hidden from us. We feel estranged from one another and the connection between us has become rejection. Soon all the inhabitants of the world will have to discover the inner connection between them, and then above the rejection there will be love, as it is written, “Love covereth all transgressions” (Proverbs 10:12); the fire of love is ignited above the fire of hatred. Kabbalah teaches us how to achieve this. Natural love will probably not crumble within the family and among the people because a new connection must be born. Love is the peak of human evolution; from love of others we ultimately reach love of the Creator, the general force that connects everything.

New Life 692 – What Is Love?

New Life 692 – What Is Love?
Dr. Michael Laitman in conversation with Oren Levi and Yael Leshed-Harel

Our nature is a desire to enjoy and we love whatever gives us pleasure. We love many things depending on the hierarchy of our desires for: food, sex, family, money, respect, and knowledge. If there weren’t hate, there wouldn’t be love, and the intensity of love depends on the intensity of hate. Hate can be toward someone or something or toward a situation in which we lack something that we love. Human development means the correction of our definitions as to what is good or bad, what we enjoy and what we don’t. Man is a social creature so he can determine values not according to his own feeling but according to the well being of society.

So why is it important to me that I am loved? Because deep inside we are all connected to one another like one body, and because of this internal connection I greatly care about what others think of me or say about me, and just as I have a desire to be loved I also have a desire to love.

Children who grow up without loving parents are really miserable, because when we don’t feel a connection between us we feel lost. Love gives a person a feeling of internal abundance that revives him, and it is a much deeper emotion that we actually know at the moment. We have yet to discover what it is.

Today people draw away from family connections; love disappears and in its place, a new connection will be built. The secret of life is connected to love, to the connection between opposites, between love and hate. Without this there is no life.

New Life 617 – Israel And The Global Refugee Crisis

New Life 617 – Israel And The Global Refugee Crisis
Dr. Michael Laitman in conversation with Oren Levi and Tal Mandelbaum ben Moshe

Will Europe change its attitude toward Israel as a result of the refugee crisis it is undergoing? Of course, but it will be only for the worse.

We can expect nothing from the Europeans or from the whole world for that matter when it comes to their changing their attitude to us for the better. Eventually they will blame us for everything. This stems from the fact that we haven’t brought the correction to the world, and so they hate us.

What is happening in the world today is the preparation for the blow that might hit Israel. Therefore we must take preventive measures in advance. Today’s financial crisis will increase and all the countries in the world will be in the state Africa is in.

The global refugee crisis is meant to push us to a new level in our relations with others. There is no solution other than all people all over the world entering a new kind of school for changing human nature, and Israel will manage this process.

Only when we change our attitude to others and open our eyes to see that we are all one, will life be pure pleasure. Mankind must develop. It is impossible to remain in first grade. We have to develop until we feel that we are one family.

New Life 691 – Intention And Fulfillment Of A Mitzvah (Commandment)

New Life 691 – Intention And Fulfillment Of A Mitzvah (Commandment)
Dr. Michael Laitman in conversation with Oren Levi and Nitzah Mazoz

A person is a desire for enjoyment for his own benefit; this is called “ego.” When we act for our own benefit, we only feel this world, but if we change direction, from drawing into ourselves to going outside toward others, we perceive a new reality called the “upper world.”

The transition from the intention for one’s own benefit to the intention for the benefit of others reveals the soul of man; it is written that, “A Mitzvah without intention is like a body without a soul” (Don Isaac Abravanel, Nahalat Avot, commentary on Masechet Avot 2:13).

The Mitzvot were given for the correction of the heart, and the correction is actually carried out in a group. The correction is to connect as one person with one heart, and the entire world should proceed forward toward this. The intention that should attach to any deed is love, and the “Light that Reforms” is the force that connects between ten people who want to connect as one.

New Life 690 – The Meaning Of Putting On Tefillin

New Life 690 – The Meaning Of Putting On Tefillin
Dr. Michael Laitman in conversation with Oren Levi and Nitzah Mazoz

The physical act of putting on Tefillin is just a symbol of spiritual communication with the higher power. The Tefillin symbolize the correction that we must make in heart and mind to communicate with the higher power. The general egoistic desire is divided into 613 desires that we must correct with love for others. Thought only serves desire; so we must correct the desire.

The contents of the Tefillin are four Parshiot (sections) that correspond to the name HaVaYaH, and through this we are asking the upper force to help us love others.

Putting Tefillin on in the morning expresses a desire to receive the power to correct ourselves throughout the day.

Putting on Tefillin doesn’t correct in itself; rather, the correction depends on a person’s intentions and actions. And that is how it is with all the physical Mitzvot (commandments); they only come as a reminder that it is necessary to carry out internal acts of correction.

The Jewish people attain the spiritual world, and they perform the Mitzvot of Tefillin according to branch and root: “And thou shalt bind them for a sign upon thy hand” (Deuteronomy 6:8)—the left hand symbolizes the ego that must be corrected, “and they shall be for frontlets between thine eyes” (Deuteronomy 6:8)—when a person corrects his heart and mind he resembles the Creator. This is to say, the Tefillin symbolize all the Mitzvot, the correction of heart and mind thanks to which the person discovers the higher reality.
