What Your Shadow Will Show

Dr. Michael LaitmanThe aspiration to bestow to others forms in a person gradually, over the course of a long time, and it stands for the correction of desires if I am capable of restricting them because I see that life in egoism does not bring any joy. I attract a small illumination from Above through my study and efforts. And even though I don’t know what this Light is, it still corrects and changes me, gradually leading me towards the feeling of the value of bestowal.

I begin to feel that I strive outward, towards a fellow human being, towards a connection with all others, and perceive them as parts of my own soul. This is the result of the influence of the Surrounding Light. This change happens from within on its own due to my efforts, study, participation in dissemination, and connection with friends.

This is how I come to the decision that I refuse to continue being a receiver who takes more than is needed for living. I begin to hate egoistic reception. And my aspiration towards bestowal begins to develop from this point on, which also happens due to the Light.

What I do is to try, ask, pray, and demand, and in this way I force the Light to operate on me. And finally the Light makes a correction in me, after which I begin to feel an aspiration towards a fellow human being and true love—one that is not the object of my pleasure. This is because I have already built a barrier that does not allow me to enjoy egoistically, but only from actual bestowal.

The development of this kind of aspiration in man is called “the seven days of Sukkot,” when he begins to receive the illumination of the Surrounding Light that reforms. This Light forms the quality of Bina, faith above reason in man, a covering, a roof of a special structure built on Sukkot from the “waste of barn and winery,” meaning from the desires he previously neglected in his egoism considering them to be garbage. But on the contrary, in the desire to bestow he lifts them above his own head.

And finally, he comes to a state when he tests himself: whether all of his desires are directed towards bestowal. He checks his “shadow” for this: whether it is holy or impure. He hides himself from the Light, and by doing so he opens himself for the Light to later enter him and fill him with the intention for the sake of bestowal. Testing the shadow after the end of the holiday of Sukkot and the evaluation of whether it pertains to holiness or the impure forces, all these things are the establishment of one’s attitude towards his egoism and the transition into another dimension: that of bestowal.

I seal myself for my desire to receive pleasure, and I am only ready to receive for the sake of bestowal, thereby turning my reception into bestowal. I and He love each other, and this is why I receive from Him to please Him. But all of this happens after the test of my shadow and all the corrections that the holiday of Sukkot symbolizes.

The Path Is Through The Red Sea

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: What do we lack in order to attain the revelation? Why are we failing to insert the key into the door of the spiritual world?

Answer: There’s a point in the heart encased in the ego shell (Klipa) in every one of us. This shell can only be broken and destroyed through mutual help. No one is able to work alone. Everyone must make sure this happens to others as well.

None of us has the strength to break our own shell or free our own point in the heart. Mutual efforts do not need to be big, but a certain quality is required. So far you have been unable to reach this quality.

We keep stumbling at the threshold: We arrive at the shell referred to as “Klipat Emori,” we try to touch it, and it pushes us away. We can’t see, touch, or break it because this is only possible through a general connection, by uniting all our forces, whereas we are unable to do so. We think about completely different things, not yet realizing that success only depends on our unity against our mutual egoism. We need to connect our points in the heart, our desires, and break this ego.

And once we begin to connect before this common enemy, our connection will lead us to the understanding that we lack the upper force to break this ego. In other words, we lack the third factor in the equation of: “Israel, the Torah, and the Creator are one.” And then we will ask Him and attract the Light of correction AB-SAG, which will break this shell and illuminate both the bad and good desires for us. The Light will clarify everything for us so much that we will no longer be able to continue agreeing with our ego, and we will want to rise out of it at any cost.

Then we will be able to work by faith above reason because we will no longer wish to remain with this egoistic mind. But all this will happen under the condition that we try to unite our forces to break this general egoism.

Mount Sinai is the mountain of our mutual hatred, our enormous egoism. We always reveal our mutual egoism with the exception of some special cases described in the Torah. A golden calf is made with the gold that every person pulls from his heart. Women are happy to give you all of their gold jewelry to make an idol. And the force that can break this egoism must also be joint.

For now we are unable to make this final decision that only together can we break this Klipa and include ourselves in the upper one. We lack inner seriousness even though everything depends on the quality of our effort.

The world is already screaming and has advanced through a lot of threatening states, and our objective is to go ahead of them, to lead them down the final sea (the Red Sea).

Time Is Like Jelly

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: Sometimes a person experiences critical states when he feels like he has one second given to him for a prayer, and if he misses it, he could spend years waiting for another opportunity. What can a person do to avoid this?

Answer: You blame time for everything, but time is not the problem. What matters is the lack of attention and sensitivity in your heart. One moment can last an hour.

You gradually will begin to feel that the quality of time completely depends on your attitude and perception. Time stretches so much that a multitude of states can fit into a second. You enter this moment as if it were jelly and begin examining it as if by touch.

A Life Matrix

Dr. Michael LaitmanThe order of degrees never changes because it comes from the first HaVaYaH, the four phases of the Direct Light. And when I receive the Light, it passes through all the degrees (Partzufim) that are between me and Infinity.

This is why the network where we exist is constant, like a crystal grid. Other kinds of connections cannot appear in it and connect me with somebody else in a different way. But forms constantly change in this system because when I want to receive from some place, I must change myself to suit it, become like it, and then it’s as if I have opened a connection with it.

Connections always change due to the changes in the one who receives, and it turns out that I constantly create different connections. But they are defined by my qualities, which are renewed every time to correspond to the one that I am connecting with: one of them, another one, a third one. In other words, I do not determine what the changes will be like, but all I need to be concerned with is rising higher.

And when I rise in my qualities (and I have 613 desires where different changes happen), I change my connection, my relationship with other spiritual objects, different people, groups, and formations of the common soul this way. This is why I discover a new world every time.

But this world depends on me in contrast to the eternal and immutable system, which exists before me in its complete and perfect form. This is why Kabbalists tell us about their attainments. After all, every person experiencing this process of correction connects with this system in a new way every time. It is as if there was a certain fixed matrix, a crystal grid, where you constantly utilize different connections. But every person, ascending the degrees and rising from one state to another, discovers wider, deeper, and richer connections, both quantitatively and qualitatively.

And through the attainment of this system of connections, he attains its Creator.

When I Receive Life

A Lifelong Moment

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: When the Light of Nefesh enters the Kli (vessel) of Keter, does the Light match that Kli, meaning does Nefesh fill Keter?

Answer: The Light of Nefesh that enters the Kli of Keter fills it fully, and the Kli senses itself absolutely filled in that capacity. What makes the Kli aspire to receive further? The rest of the desires in it are not filled. However, in this capacity, this amount, it receives perfection.

A transition from perfection to perfection takes place in a downfall when all of a sudden, “perfection” ends. It’s similar to how in our life we say: “Beautiful moment, last forever!” The moment passes, and you no longer want it—you look forward to the next one. Any fulfillment always has to bring an element of novelty, otherwise it won’t be a pleasure. We know that from any of our pleasures.

Pleasure is possible only if there is a proper combination between desire and fulfillment, when they don’t cancel one another. When a person comes to this understanding, he sees that pleasure is impossible in our world because it will always be canceled by desire. Thus, we strive forward all the time. However, in the spiritual world, any pleasure is perfection. Special actions are needed to take the creature out of this state so that it moves further, until the end, the complete fulfillment.

What happens later is not known to us. But some conditions of further fulfillment and growth inevitably exist, only we are not told about that.

Cursory Thoughts On Shamati, “What Is My Soul Shall Weep In Secret In The Work”

Dr. Michael LaitmanIn the time of the concealment we should cry. Why am I in concealment? Because my vessels are not corrected. How can I come out of the concealment? I have to correct the vessels. How do I correct them? I don’t ask for the concealment to disappear; on the contrary, I want it to stay because I don’t want my desire to receive to be filled. I wish to discover the attributes of bestowal above the concealment and to be filled in them. This is called “to be filled with the upper Light.”

We should understand that our ego, the egotistic desire to receive, will never be filled with the Light. There was a Restriction on that, an absolute prohibition.

Only if I build the desire to bestow above my ego, to the extent that I want to bestow back to the same source, I receive fulfillment from it in return. That’s the only way!

I will never receive any pleasure in my ego, which is under the Restriction. It cannot be filled directly.

The Circles Of Correction

Dr. Michael LaitmanIf you advance to the correct state, you begin to see that the entire reality exists in your desire. There is nothing else besides your desire. Through your work, you bring closer all external details that seemed to exist separately from you, that were contradictory and hateful, and then this force of rejection turns into the force of connection—everything becomes connected into one system.

Only this constitutes correction. The place where the breaking occurred is the place where we have to make a reverse flip in order to correct it. The first man, Adam HaRishon, was a single system, and now his parts, our souls, have to connect back together.

However, every part has the freedom to independently bring all other parts to connection. All parts are included in everyone. Hence, I have to connect everyone, and you have to connect everyone, and so does he. When each of us connects everyone, he creates a flat circle, his section.

Once everyone realizes his freedom of choice, these circles, these sections, will form the full sphere. This is what will become the final corrected state.

On A Little Raft

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: Which incentives will the new economics provide people with? What will drive them forward?

Answer: We need to create an environment around a person that will turn pleasure, which today seems to be abstract, into “candy.” Everyone says: “This is tasty,” and he begins to look around. Everyone exclaims: “This is great,” and he starts searching. “This is amazing!” and everyone screams with excitement. Then a person begins to suspect that they really have something worthwhile, something that he needs.

This spurs a person forward: “Why don’t I have it? Why am I not in the same position as everyone else?” Social influence is a powerful factor. Ninety-nine percent of all our actions are its consequence. Man came out of a cave and acquired his modern form only due to the environment that constantly goaded and pushed him, pointing to the things he lacked.

In general, the cave was a wonderful, very environmentally-friendly dwelling with a great climate. It has a stable temperature year round. There was meat, fire, and a calm, peaceful atmosphere, which did not inspire any desires other than those for basic needs….

Everything in excess to the animal level is exclusively caused by the environment. Man’s calling to develop agriculture, crafts, and commerce does not appear out of nothing. Society rouses these desires.

And now, with the invention of advertising, we don’t have a choice but to convince the world of the need for a system of education that explains what tomorrow will be like, a system that models what the future will be.

We need to promote the good life. But government is slow to make changes. So what is left for us to do? We are to develop this system on the Internet with our own strengths and spread it via every accessible channel.

I have had meetings with the UN and UNESCO executive representatives, and my opinion remains the same: We must do everything on our own. After all, we can bring the Light that Reforms. In this case, our individualism is not a flaw, but an advantage because we are not limited by external limitations. We can do exactly what we are capable of doing and what we consider necessary. We worry for the success of our enterprise, and in the end, we will simply be obligated to evoke the Light that will flow through the system we have built.

Even if the system appears to be weak, like a little raft on the waves of a virtual ocean, it doesn’t matter. Everyone will hear its call letters because the force of the Light is in it. Let the Light do its work. This is what our approach should be.

Cursory Thoughts On Shamati, “What Does It Mean That The Sitra Achra is Called ‘Malchut Without A Crown'”

Dr. Michael LaitmanThe will to enjoy, egotistic pleasures, the egoistic desire, is called the “corporeal world,” and the desire to give, to fill, and to bestow is called the “spiritual world.” There is hardly any difference between the two except for one—the result.

If a person performs an act of bestowal, he must discover the Light. This means that he reaches Keter (crown). But if he doesn’t perform an act of bestowal, he doesn’t attain Keter. The only difference is the result.

Therefore, the impure force (Sitra Achra) is called “Malchut without a crown (Keter),” when I’m in the desire to receive, but the Light of Keter doesn’t reach me.

You Are Facing The World

Dr. Michael LaitmanYou are facing the world, and now everything depends on how you relate to it: Do you pull it to yourself, or do you want to give it everything and connect it to yourself so as to do it good? You determine everything, and all the Light, the force of connection, devotion, and clarification, meaning all forms of bestowal, can flow through you.

Just like when treating someone who is ill, first it’s necessary to clarify what kind of disease it is, what course of treatment it requires, and what medicine should be used. When the medicine is finally working, you check that the patient has fully recovered and is in a perfect condition.

You either use everyone for your own good, by taking advantage of the lie we are living in now, or you try, no matter what, to bestow upon everyone in all circumstances and conditions. If you bestow upon others, you are called “Israel,” which comes from the Hebrew words “Li-Rosh” (I am the head), meaning the one who determines everything and cares for others.

There is nothing but the intention. Everything stays the way it is: you, your desires, and this world. The only thing that changes is your intention towards the world, and then you see it differently. If you bring it closer to you, through love, you and the world merge into a single whole. You will see all that with your own eyes.

You will see that the still, vegetative, animate, and speaking levels of nature are one closed system. The still, vegetative, and animate nature are angels, and people are the souls. This is the picture that appears as the upper Light operates. You ask, demand, clarify, and try to carry it out, and then the Light comes and fulfills this connection.
