How the Mechanism of Correction Works

117Question: How can one guide their point in the heart through the group, which functions as a spiritual amplifier?

Answer: There are external means that we use: books, the group, the teacher, our system of study and global connection. These conditions were established for us by the Kabbalists.

If we put them into practice, build an external framework for ourselves, and insert our desire for spirituality into this system, then the desire begins to grow.

Initially I have only my one point in the heart, and I pass it to my friends and receive from them all their points in the heart! This network of connection between us, between souls, already exists.

Everything was prepared in advance during the descent of the worlds from above downward for our ascent from this world to the world of infinity.

I only need to be able to enter into this system, lower myself, see everyone else as corrected, and desire to receive the light of correction through them.

Then I will receive from the others their desires for bestowal, which will expand my own desire.
However, at the beginning I had only a small point in the heart, and even that was unclear in its direction.

I invested it into the group, I wanted to enter it; that is, I performed an act of bestowal! And in return I received from the others a genuine force, a true desire to bestow!

Suddenly you see that you really want it and value it. And then fear comes. Will I be able to reach bestowal to the Creator or will I end my life without achieving it?

These are still egoistic thoughts, but they already revolve around how to reach bestowal! This is called Lo Lishma: a) striving to bestow and b) thinking about the benefit.

So through the group you receive a more internal direction toward the Creator.

When you aim yourself toward the Creator, you draw closer to faith, you begin to attract another surrounding light. It is not that the light has changed; you have changed, and therefore the light affects you differently. Now it can give you the quality of bestowal.

And when you acquire the quality of bestowal, you begin to rise above your egoism. This is what you wanted to achieve from the very beginning, but now the light has arranged it so that it comes not through coercion, but by your own desire.

Suddenly you feel how the quality of faith fills you, that is, the quality of bestowal, since faith is bestowal, Bina.

It gives you freedom from your ego! And it is not that it completely frees you from egoism, but it gives you the strength to rise above it. It is already above the Machsom.

The Only Path to Adhesion to the Creator

934Question: Are the efforts to adhere to the Creator a personal task or one that must be done in the ten?

Answer: The point is that the entire essence of personal work lies in integrating into the ten, although this might take a whole lifetime or even more than one.

Look at how long humanity has wandered before finally beginning to understand that there is no other choice but to work on unity. Otherwise, we are out of alignment with the nature of Earth itself, and it will erase us from its surface. How much time, suffering, and effort were needed for this realization!

All the work done before joining a group is merely preparation for the real work. Once I begin to integrate into it, it is as if a progress bar starts crawling forward, showing the percentage of the program being downloaded. To the extent that I incorporate myself into the group, I make room for the thought of creation to enter and fill me.

The more I empty the place from myself and engage myself in the ten, the more the thought of creation can fill my connection with the group. This is called a corrected Kli (vessel). In this form, I become filled, and reach similarity and adhesion with the Creator. This adhesion continuously deepens and strengthens.

The work toward adhesion with the Creator is only possible in a group of ten. In earlier times, that is, in previous stages of humanity’s development, this was not the case, and there were other ways to achieve adhesion with the Creator. But in our time, this is the only path.

An Abstract Idea that Turns into Reality

229At first the aspiration to attain the Creator seems to be some abstract idea to us because we do not yet feel that He can clothe Himself into matter and give real fulfillment. Then we see that this idea can fulfill us more than anything else and we are ready to dedicate our entire life to it and devote our heart and soul to it.

This happens within a person gradually, and then one really changes the Kelim, changes the fulfillment, and works with a different goal, with a different fulfillment. It means that when “women,” “children,” and “slaves” grow up this secret is gradually revealed to them until they acquire much wisdom, and then they accept this idea. This is the process in which a person is in his group and knows how to behave with his body and with his group.

He knows and does not know, meaning there are various processes going on in this place. We are talking about significant changes in relation to Malchut, in relation to the desire to receive.

A person goes through part of the path without disconnecting oneself from Malchut. At some portion of the path, he already knows that he has Malchut in him and from time to time he more or less critically analyses it from the side of Bina, from the side of the point he acquires that grows until the person really begins to rule over Malchut from the point of view of advancement, from the side of the goal, from the side of Bina.

In the beginning he does not use Malchut, that is called “and you will be unto Me a kingdom of priests.” After that he uses it in the correct form and it is called “and a holy nation.” This is the entire process.

Let the Sparks of Purity Flow into the World

937Today we are in a state where we are obliged to make corrections. If we do this, we are using our free choice. We create a group through which we strengthen ourselves, analyze the Kelim, and correct them from simple to complex.

First we correct “Israel in its land” to the extent possible, and then our inclusion in the nations of the world. This means that we give the nations of the world the method of correction, explain to them why everything exists, what its purpose is, and what the process and goal of creation are.

This is what is meant by Galgalta veEynaim (GE) working on the AHP, being inside it, and due to this the AHP joins GE to the extent possible.

If we function as we should, then, as Baal HaSulam, writes “sparks of enlightenment and purification” will pass from Israel to the nations of the world. By doing this, we carry out the one and only action that we can perform by free choice.

But if we do not use our freewill, specifically that which is given to us in this particular moment in history, then the general force that is obliged to bring us and all the nations of the world to the end of correction (Gmar Tikun) will act upon us in such a way that we will be made to fulfill what is required.

To the extent that we deviate from the correct direction, this force acts upon us to return us to it, but this return comes through suffering, and therefore, we risk finding ourselves in the most dreadful states.

Don’t Forget about the Ultimate Goal

231.03Question: We say that first we direct ourselves toward the Creator, and only afterward we work with the friends in order to attain Him. But in practice, according to the method it is the other way around. First are the commandments regarding one’s attitude toward a friend, and then to the Creator.

Answer: The end of the action is in the original plan. You must constantly maintain the final goal, and everything you do along the way is merely a means. Therefore, if you are not thinking about the ultimate goal, your intermediate actions may be directed the wrong way and end up giving the opposite result.

Baal HaSulam writes about this, mentioning communism, Kibbutzim, and all the things humanity tried to create for its own benefit by using the rule “love your neighbor as yourself,” the Ten Commandments, and so on. The result was only evil and destruction. The reason is that the ultimate goal was not exactly the one for which these commandments were given and for which the whole of creation really exists.

If you use anything beyond the inanimate, vegetative, or animate levels without the intention to attain adhesion with the Creator, then any action, even the smallest one, causes damage to the surrounding reality.

And the greater and more significant the action, the more harm it brings to you. After all, the entire reality was created only so that you could connect your free choice with the place where you are called a human, and thereby all of reality would once again merge with the Creator.

Strive to Merge with The Creator

294.3It is written, “Do not put an obstacle before a blind person.” How can it be that the people of Israel are required to become a kingdom of priests and a holy nation?

At Mount Sinai, the people are required to be as one person with one heart; otherwise, “this will become your burial place.” The condition at Mount Sinai is a state, it is not our condition. It means we have now come out of Egypt, out of the desire to receive. This escape was accomplished through the first three Sefirot of Hochma (GAR de-Hochma), through the upper force, awakening from above.

Now that we have some idea of what it is, we must assume the next state we must enter, called: “the kingdom of priests” and “the holy nation.”

Coming out of the desire to receive and entering the spiritual world must take place in the vessels of bestowal, without any concern for oneself, for the sake of adhesion with the Creator. A state with no self-concern is achieved through a means called “love your neighbor as yourself,” with the help of a group. And merging with the Creator is achieved through working with Him.

Once a person acquires the vessels of bestowal, one interacts with the Creator. But the intention, from the start, must be in order to merge with the Creator.

Cursory Thoughts On Shamati, “The Help That the Torah Provides in Spiritual Work”

165The tools that strengthen a person on the spiritual path, called the help that the Torah provides, are: good mood, inspiration, uplifted spirit, daily routine, support of friends, various responsibilities.

I organize all of this around myself so that I constantly desire to advance along the spiritual path. And if suddenly I don’t desire it, then at least I feel obligated, ashamed not to do something, and pressured by the group.

I create all kinds of support systems like this around me so they hold me, don’t let me escape, and compel me, so that every minute I try to gain benefit and make an effort. And it never happens that I try to put in effort and receive no response. It is just that sometimes the response comes on such inner levels that I don’t yet feel it, until it is revealed.

But we must constantly and persistently apply effort, as it is said, “Penny by penny accumulates into a great fortune”; we should not disregard this. We progress not in leaps, but through the tiniest, most detailed actions.

Mutual Guarantee Is the Means for Adhesion with the Creator

231.04How does one analyze and verify their internal structure? It becomes clearer time after time. Does a newborn baby who does not need legs yet not have them? He has them! But why if he doesn’t need them yet? Let them grow in a year! But no…

We obviously do not feel it, but even the parts we do not feel until later are already developing. All of them are in our inner development.

Question: All our actions, such as mutual guarantee, are a means to merge with the Creator. Merging is the reward I want to receive. Do I need to check the desired reward more carefully: what exactly will it give me? Or is it better to leave this clarification for later; when it is needed, everything will manifest?

Answer: “The final action is in the initial thought.” We cannot begin any action unless we prioritize the ultimate goal. It must be at the start; otherwise, the action itself, or the intention, or the thought, will simply be animalistic.

Such a person is called “unbalanced in his consciousness.” If one does not know why he is acting, if he does not have a clear goal, he is called confused, or a child, or insane.

Question: Then I want to understand what kind of adhesion it is I should make an effort to achieve?

Answer: Imagine the ultimate goal to the extent you have clarified it, no matter to what extent. The main thing is that you somehow “grab it by the tail” and say: “There it is! I am working toward it. Now I have to do this and that to ultimately achieve it.”

Receive for the Sake of the Creator

276.01Question: You said it is possible to test how much you can use the desire to receive for the sake of bestowal. How can I draw this line to use one part of the desire for bestowal and not the other?

Answer: This can only be done based on our work, from our efforts.

Question: How can I use part of the joy for the sake of my friends, for the sake of the Creator, but not for myself?

Answer: I see that I can work with such pleasures that I receive in order to bring joy to my friends. That is clear to me.

Therefore when the Creator demands certain actions from me, I can do it: I can receive for His sake.

Live in Intention

276.04Question: How can I gain the strength to remain in intention 24 hours a day?

Answer: A group can obligate you, not by force, but through influence. It can make you want this; you will think about it day and night, and this idea simply will not leave you.

Question: In an elevated state, I can still maintain such an intention, but what should I do when there is no desire?

Answer: You must begin to live within intention, rather than through actions. It is a different dimension: I do not live by actions and relationships; I live inside the intention! Me and the Creator—how do I relate to Him? To remain in this intention at all times.

If you enter such a state for the full 24 hours, it means you cross the Machsom and enter the spiritual world. After all, the spiritual world is your attitude toward the Creator based on your intention toward Him.

Of course, when this happens, you are filled with something entirely different, your concerns shift; you live by this! So do not be afraid!

Then, whether you are studying, eating, drinking, indulging in material pleasures, whatever it may be, you remain in this intention. We are capable of this. I promise that it will happen.
