This Strange Word “Nature”

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: When we conduct lectures and seminars on integral education, people feel that there is something we are not telling them, until we begin to talk in more detail about the concept of nature. At what point is it okay to reveal the concept of “nature,” and is it necessary to do so?

Answer: It is absolutely necessary! The concept of nature can be explained as follows: We are all connected. Our consciousness is tied into a single system, so we are able to pass our thoughts and desires to one another.

There’s a reason why the idea of “good eye” or “evil eye” exists. We can pass on thoughts. There are people who are more sensitive to this. They even can read thoughts, and there are those that are less sensitive. A person can feel when someone is looking at him from behind and so on.

That is, we talk about the subtle planes that exist in nature. We can’t measure them sufficiently. There are intelligence agencies that deal with this that don’t reveal all the secrets to us, but this isn’t important. What is important is that today our interconnection is gradually becoming revealed to humanity.

This total integral interconnection that exists between our individual minds creates a single network that also is connected with the inanimate, vegetative, and animal nature. All of this together creates nature. When we aspire toward integrality and mutual connection, we reveal the single network of nature.

It’s like a computer network. Each one of us is like a computer that’s connected to all the other computers. When all seven billion computers connect, then this constitutes a single nature.

The thing is that the common mind-field exists not within each individual but between us, in the network that connects us. This is why, when we connect with each other, when our personal modems connect, we create this great, vast, and conscious world network. Then, in this network, we begin to sense a single movement of nature and, most importantly, our own evolution, where we are headed and how we develop.

We can predict our next states because we tune into the level of nature where its entire plan lies. This plan develops each one of us. It takes from our personal memories, individual Reshimot. Then, a person will see his next states because he’ll feel included in this system.

That is, when our minds become integral, then we enter the level of nature and go beyond the limitations of time and space, of all that quantum physicists, psychologists, and other scientists talk about today. You can back this up with science. You’ll be understood.

Striving For Rest

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: We always say that a person is the desire to receive pleasure. But to many people this isn’t clear unless they are studying the wisdom of Kabbalah where it speaks about concepts like the Light, the Creator, and so on.

Answer: Why?! Learn anything: physics, entropy, thermodynamics, and laws such as these. They all say that each body in the process of its development tends to a state of rest. Not only a person but all of nature (still, vegetative, and animate) strive for fulfillment, maximum rest, and abundance. That is the law of nature.

What is “rest”? It’s when all the desires to be filled are at the most comfortable state, which is what any creation aspires toward at any level.

Question: What would you advise so that a person would understand that? Should we maybe have him watch himself during the day?

Answer: You need to give a person a few lessons in psychology and explain it. We teach this in integral education, which explains about the ego being our foundation and explains its principle attributes. We teach how it develops, how it brings us to the crisis, how it brings us to recognize our evil, and to recognize that all of its attributes are egoistic.

The ego is actually our main property. And within it is a collection of our attributes: laziness, desire to reach the goal, jealousy, greed, everything. Both the good attributes and the bad are all egoistic with the purpose of filling itself. In addition to that, animals think only of how to fulfill themselves; however, man receives pleasure also from draining others. This means that he measures himself according to others. With animals this doesn’t exist. In this we are different from them.

In The Sunset Of Life

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: If we ask an old man whether he would like to be a magician, he would tell you, “I would like to, but I have no desires.”

Answer: Old people lose their desires. They feel repelled by life, they are tired and don’t expect anything from life. Young people are ready for anything, but they don’t have the mind, as it says: “If the youth knew, if the old could.”

This is how we live, and so the main thing is to present a person at the beginning of his life with the option to discover all of providence, then he would know how to behave, what to look for, what to be filled by, and he wouldn’t waste his life, but rather would aspire to enter the next eternal level.

Question: Can we say to an old man, “Come to the integral education group, this is where you will find a desire?”

Answer: Absolutely! But this isn’t the only way we can attract him. We only need to turn to a person with what he actually wants.

If he still has some similar desires, then yes. And if not, if everything is already dead in him, we can just draw him to come, to sit with other elderly folks, to have a tasty roll and a cup of tea. He will see, listen, and pass the time, and he will be pleasantly impressed by being in a certain society. Elderly people should be attracted by what we call old folks interests, but not by high matters.

It should suit a person’s needs. No matter who we turn to, we must first study this group of people and their desires and turn to these desires

At My Command, According To My Desire

Dr. Michael LaitmanIntegral education is not a collection of some kind of rules, laws, conditions and states that you learn, are tested on, and thereby you are brought up. Unfortunately, we really do not have upbringing anywhere, since it provides the rise of a man to the next level, and humanity has no such means. If you go to the army, there they teach you instinctive actions, to react automatically, and nothing else; similarly are astronauts and others.

In integral education it is understood that you need to show a person and teach him how to extract from nature such forces that will allow him to rise to the next level, above the level of self of today. This means that if today you are an egoistic individualist, then tomorrow you need to transform into an integral, altruistic component of all of nature and humanity. Where do we get such forces?

This is what integral education teaches: how you can extract and transform the integral force that is basic to nature from within a nature of for oneself; how you can attract it in such a way that it will change you, and then you begin to enter the integral system, “at my command, according to my desire,” and not in opposition to my desire.

The great integral force of nature, which is in its foundation, this force of bestowal, force of love, force of mutually shared activity, will begin to influence you. You will suddenly begin to change and will naturally yearn for unity with others. Suddenly a completely different relation to everything will appear in you: Your opinions will change, the paradigm by which you will begin to act.

This means that integral education specifically anticipates this change in a person. That is why it’s different from any other. Thus we always feel that in our world upbringing isn’t found at all. There are exercises, coercions of some kinds of instinctive actions, warnings, limits, and rewards, which in principle are not different from how we train animals.

Integral education is the one thing that we can give to a person; we call it “integral” because this is its goal. However in principle, it’s “Upbringing” with a capital letter when a person changes himself.

No one can change a person, thus there exists a system that indirectly brings a person to this education, “by way of the stick to happiness.” He can’t change himself instinctively: “Here it’s bad for me, so I escape. There it’s good, so I run there.” Is this called, “by way of the stick to happiness”? No, “by way of the stick to happiness” is when, in any case he is brought to education, he should understand: “I need to change myself,” and then he enters this education.

“Happiness Is Equality”

Dr. Michael LaitmanOpinion (Robert Skidelsky, Emeritus Professor of Political Economy at the University of Warwick, Economist and Historian, Politician, member of the British House of Lords): “More equality would not only produce the contentment that flows from more security and better health, but also the satisfaction that flows from having more leisure, more time with family and friends, more respect from one’s fellows, and more lifestyle choices. Great inequality makes us hungrier for goods than we would otherwise be, by constantly reminding us that we have less than the next person. …

“The nineteenth-century philosopher John Stuart Mill had a more civilized view:

“’I confess I am not charmed with the ideal of life held out by those who think…that the trampling, crushing, elbowing, and treading on each other’s heels, which form the existing type of social life, are the most desirable lot of human kind. …The best state for human nature is that in which, while no one is poor, no one desires to be richer, nor has any reason to fear being thrust back, by the efforts of others to push themselves forward.’”

My Comment: A human being is a psychological system and determines his state only in comparison with his peers. Therefore, the future, how it is felt and perceived, depends on the “settings” of the system “individual-society” in in every human. This is realized in integral education and upbringing.

Preventing A Negative Reaction From Nature

Dr. Michael LaitmanUsually, we are afraid of war as if it were the most frightening thing. But the threat isn’t in that. The threat is in the response of nature: It can suddenly respond with such tsunamis, eruptions of volcanoes, or earthquakes that any atomic war will seem like a little toy.

However, in principle, the world is beginning to grasp what is happening, and today it’s already possible to talk and see that a broad audience understands the need for integral education at least. It is more difficult with upbringing: People still can’t imagine how it can be done since we are speaking about a large mass of people.

However, the Internet and the rest of the network services can, if desired, yield almost immediate results. If we examine this in groups of a few hundred people, we see that within a few lessons, people actually begin to understand their state and change drastically.

The matter is that we are mutually interconnected, meaning that 1) a common network connects all of humanity, 2) within us, it connects the flora, the fauna, and the still parts of nature, and 3) all these four spheres are interconnected. Thus when we, our students, our organization, the people who understand and feel think about and live this, then this is what happens. We see a great influence on the world.

In other words, the world is beginning to discover quite clearly this integral mutual connection whereby our thoughts and desires begin to work for one another. This is why in this network that is concealed from us, our inner work is also very important.

Toward The New World Through Integral Interaction

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: Is it possible that our aspiration toward the new integral level in our relationships will become the solution to a person’s suffering?

Answer: I am confident that integral unity will be able to distribute all pluses and minuses of the modern society in such a way that they all will become balanced. This harmony will be sensed by everyone.

It really will calm down everyone not only within the society’s relationships, but also in the political, economic, upbringing, and educational areas. It will lift humanity to a totally different level.

People will begin sensing that they live in the integral world, in the world of whole nature. I think that we will see a different world precisely through the expansion of integral interaction.
