Union For The Sake Of Birth Of The Soul

laitman_938.05The whole of reality is created as a result of the spreading of Light that created desire “out of nothing” and then developed it. Starting from the Big Bang, the desire increasingly coarsened, and so waves, gases, and inanimate matter were created.

Then on Earth appeared plants, animals, and man, who undergoes many stages of development until he reaches similarity to the Creator.

It is interesting that the Light and the desire are imprinted in the creature as two kinds: male and female. Male and female qualities, following the example of two spiritual Partzufim: Aba (father) and Ima (mother), Hassadim and Hochma, connect with each other and give birth to a new generation of masculine or feminine.

Connection between a man and a woman is special, because on one hand they are opposite to each other, but on the other hand, they feel that they have a common goal. The common spiritual goal unites them so much that they act together and give birth to offspring. From this, it is clear where the concept of family comes from and the natural desire to live as a couple, to give birth, and to grow its own continuation.

We all are one family. Not only grandfather and grandmother, father and mother, and children, and so on from generation to generation, but all men and all women in general are one family, descendants of Adam and Eve. There is a big difference between spiritual men and women.

The result of our connection with each other, a child that we can give birth to, is called “a soul.” When we present this connection to the Creator, He gives a spirit of life to it. In this soul, in the correct connection between us, we reach adhesion with the Creator, as it is written, “Man, woman, and Shechina (Divinity) between them.”

The main thing is to know that our connection with each other must be for the sake of building a soul. This means that without friends, I cannot obtain a soul.

If I connect with my friend through my desire to receive, then the desire to bestow is participating from his side, and vice versa—if from his side, the desire to receive, then from my side, the desire to bestow. We always act between each other as Zahar (masculine quality) and Nekeva (feminine quality) that exist in any creature.

Most importantly, a connection between us should be organized, and as a result, it should give birth to the soul. I always expect this from a friend and I myself respond in the same way. With each contact, conversation, or any joint work, we construct our souls at every moment, that is, a place for revealing the Creator, so that the upper Light will fill our communicating common desires.

Clearing A Space For The Creator

laitman_260We must try to attribute everything that comes to us—everything we feel, that is awakened in the mind and in the heart, the whole world around us—to a single force, besides which there is nothing else.

Everything comes from this good and benevolent force, for the sole purpose of us connecting everything that happens to this single source, and in so doing, revealing Him.

If we attribute everything to a single upper force, then we cease to control our actions, thoughts, and desires, since all our thoughts and desires, all our efforts, are aimed only at annulling ourselves, clearing a space for “there is none else besides Him.”

And then we reveal Him in the desire to bestow, in new sensory organs, in the qualities of Bina. So that even if we don’t have a shirt, we don’t need it—only to have self-annulment that allows us to reveal the Creator.

Performing An Awakening From Below

laitman_276.05We value such states when we are full of strength, knowledge, feelings, energy, happiness, and inspiration. But we do not take into account that all this comes to us from Above, from the Light. When the Light disappears and the Creator does not give all this from Above but requires us to do our own work from below, so that we ourselves will place Him to rule over us becoming His people, then we organize ourselves as the people chosen by the Creator.

And this work is done exactly in such states when we feel ourselves insignificant, empty, sleepy, with a deaf heart, powerless to do something because of the feeling of heaviness in the soul and in the whole body. It is then that we have an opportunity to perform the “awakening from below” without the “awakening from Above” in order to become the people of the Creator.*

Working With Faith Above Reason

laitman_213To act “Lishma” means with the force of faith. That is, being in concealment I do not see and do not understand anything, and specifically this allows me to rise above this world, above my knowledge, above primitivity, limited in relation to the spiritual mind. Therefore, we need some sort of lifting mechanism to be able to move to another level of existence and perception of reality.

To rise to another dimension, exit the familiar three-dimensional coordinate system, free ourselves from its limitations, and move to a new, wider perception of reality, we need new instruments of perception that are called “faith above reason.”

It is impossible to understand with our earthy mind what it is, because we are incapable of existing in a non-dimensional space and seeing what disagrees with our internal program. Therefore, it is written, “Taste and see that the Creator is good.” This can be achieved only with the force of faith.*

With Gratitude to the Creator for the Creation

If a person advances to “Lishma” wishing to work with the force of faith above reason, with so-called “devotion of the soul,” then even before he reaches it, by just aspiring to it, he gives great contentment to the Creator. It is even greater than it will be afterward from his subsequent spiritual attainments.

It is like a baby who gives more pleasure to the father and mother than an adult child. After all, the adult acts with his mind, his calculations, and a baby—with his naïve devotion, which is very attractive and touches the parents.

Therefore, we should highly value the opportunity given to us even to simply talk, think, or read about spiritual concepts that are above our world. This is a great privilege. A lot of people come to this, try and leave. Moreover, they begin to slander this methodology.

People do not understand what harm they do to themselves by speaking poorly about Kabbalah. After all, the Creator purposely arranged all of creation, all the worlds, and a common soul in order to bring the creation to His degree. And they neglect this entire system, this method, all the conditions prepared from Above. It turns out that they strike out the entire creation created for them by the Creator.

If a person is simply not yet ready and knows nothing about Kabbalah, this is alright. But the one who has already been acquainted with it and has touched this wisdom and then left and began to slander it, by this he shows disregard for the Creator.**

Turning To The Creator

laitman_284.03The work of men (Hebrew – Gevarim) is based on overcoming (Hebrew – Hitgabrut), on faith above reason. After all, the exit from Egypt is where we wish to unite, so all our work is directed at continuously greater unification. For now, we are all egoists and we try to unite using our egoistic strength. But through these efforts: the study, connection, and self-nullification, we awaken the reforming Light and receive the strength to overcome, starting to work as men.

The most important thing is to return to the same connection that existed in the first man, Adam, before the breaking. However, if we reach this connection now with all of our egoism, it will be 620 times greater than before. Thus, we will reveal not the small, barely enlivening Light, but the whole Light of NRNHY, the Creator.*

The burden of the exile is the sensation of my inability to come to the correct intention. We try to do something and discover every time that it was for the sake of egoism. After all, the Creator wants to bring us to screaming, to the recognition of evil, the purpose of which is to realize that we will not achieve success without His help.**

The main distinction of the wisdom of Kabbalah in defining the work of the Creator is that it is directed at uniting people in order to bring them to the same model that is called Adam, the single system of the common soul, and from love of the friends to come to love of the Creator.

Pharaoh is between us, and we need to turn him into the Creator so that the Creator will be revealed. The Creator is not revealed in any one of us, but only in the connection between us. The Creator is the network of connection and love that unites us.

Just as sea water fills the gaps between the islands of an archipelago, the Torah needs to fill the space between people with bestowal and love.***

“Do not swallow the Maror without chewing it.”

“Do not swallow the Maror without chewing it.” This means that we need to work on our unity with great persistence, regardless of our inability to reach it. If in the group we consent to the need to unite, it means that we have entered Egypt. Before this, we did not consent to it and did not even talk about it. First, the brothers neglected Joseph and threw him out. But then the famine begins, they agree to unite, and then enter Egypt.

At first they live well in Egypt, but then they begin to discern that they are unable to unite. “The children of Israel sighed by reason of the bondage” because they were unsuccessful. And then “their cry came up unto God by reason of the bondage.”

That is what it means that “the Maror cannot be swallowed without having been chewed first.” We must “chew” this work and feel all of its bitterness and heaviness, like the hard and bitter horseradish from which the Maror is made. From the hard work and being unsuccessful, we become softer and turn to the Creator from despair. Only after the hard work do we begin to sense our captivity and the need to come out of it, and we start to sense that there is a force that can help us. ****

Knowing the Creator means learning gradually what unity and love are that do not exist currently in our state. We live in the opposite world. The Creator that later will be revealed is currently being revealed gradually in the opposite form. It is He who broke the vessel of our soul, and that is why He is shown in the opposite form, as Pharaoh.

However, if we wish to rise above it with faith above reason and to reveal bestowal and love between us, we turn to the Creator now, not to Pharaoh. The Creator and Pharaoh are the front and back sides of the same phenomenon.

This whole work is very simple and specific; the difficulty every time is only in turning to the Creator—that is precisely where Pharaoh hides, and he gets in the way.*****

The Time As Bitter As Maror

laitman_261At the beginning, the spiritual path seams good, attractive, inviting, seemingly promising us all kinds of attainments and revelations. But then we begin to understand that we need to pay for everything, that what is required from us is to bring ourselves to equivalence of form with the spiritual degree. The path becomes harder, not so attractive anymore, even repulsive, confusing, humiliating.

This is the time that the Maror (bitter herb) symbolizes. Indeed, it is not easy to walk through it because it is like searching for the goal in complete darkness, through a great many dangerous trails, narrow bridges, climbing up the mountain to the King’s palace. Reaching it seems as likely as shooting a tiny coin from a great distance.

We need to sharpen our senses, to become accustomed to the new state, to rise above reason to a new kind of sense. We need to increase the importance of the goal and the Creator. Otherwise, the spiritual goal loses its importance in our egoistic desire. We see that many of our friends leave the path because they could not grow and develop the feeling of importance of the spiritual path within themselves, above the darkness and difficulties.

“And only the heroes,” as Baal HaSulam writes, will achieve the goal, through lack of choice and thanks to mutual guarantee. This is the period of Maror (bitter herb). Only those who have established themselves correctly will develop the new system within them called faith, will start working in bestowal, disconnect from their ego, and exit from the exile to the land flowing with milk and honey.*

We must use each other as parts of one soul. And therefore, my work with the friends is so that I see myself responsible for their connection, to bring them to the adhesion with the Creator, in order to bring Him contentment. I should treat them like the Creator, as if the Creator needs them, not me.**

Our work is against the will to receive, which needs to be inverted, building the will to bestow above it. We need to reveal the whole evil of the ego, to “chew” it like Maror until we feel all the bitterness because it stands in our way to adhesion with the Creator. All the pleasant and delightful tastes in our ego that were sweeter than honey are now turning into horrible bitterness that is impossible to tolerate.

We start to hate everything that brings sweet egoistic fulfillment and we are willing to feel such a bitterness in it that will help us escape. Escaping is the only thing we can do.

We find this bitterness in every labor we do in Egypt; we want to reach bestowal and we cannot. And we cannot turn this bitterness into sweetness, into good, so that bestowal would feel sweet to us. We can still feel bitterness in receiving, as it is written: “And the children of Israel sighed from the labor.” But bestowal becomes sweet only outside of Egypt, after receiving the Torah, and the correction of Bina, forty years in the desert.

And so, our main work in Egypt is to chew the bitter herb, the Maror. Until we chew it completely, we will not exit Egypt.***

The Whole World is Egypt

Laitman_182.02Our whole world, our whole life, is Egypt, the place of exile. We were born here and grew up feeling ourselves in a wrong reality, very remote from the power of bestowal, love, self-sacrifice, unity, that is, the properties of the Creator.

The study of the wisdom of Kabbalah is meant to set us on an increasingly correct vision of the world so that we can see that there is only one person in the world.

Everyone must see himself as this only person. If he incorporates all humanity into himself, thanks to unity and love and various corrections that he must perform in himself, he will really see only one person existing in the world.

In the meantime, we discover a multitude of forces in the world contradicting and opposing each other. We need to attach all of them to one source, to one desire, to one force beside which there is nothing. In this way, we will gradually come to the conclusion that only self-annulment is the sole action that we have to do at every moment of time, abolishing all the forces that come from me, from others, from everybody else, so that only one upper force that completely dominates over everything remains.

This is the state that puts us in front of the Creator, to His side, to adhere to Him, and to be included in Him.
