The Birth Of The Point Of Unity

Dr. Michael LaitmanThe convention is over. We have achieved great success during this convention because for the first time, we experienced a completely new state for us: our first spiritual state. This is the sensation of the common, single newborn desire that exists above us and maintains us there. When we connect to it, we rise above our body, above our world.

This desire is still a point. We are not able yet to perceive the upper world in it. Like a drop of semen, it still needs to develop into a Partzuf, a spiritual body, our common soul.

Baal HaSulam writes in the article “600,000 Souls” that there is only one soul in the universe, divided into six hundred thousand parts. Our objective is to put these pieces together. When we connect them above our egoism, despite our egoism, we begin to perceive that the space in this point expands, and in it, we sense the upper world.

We have revealed this point. It is as if we have found it, felt it, and we now understand approximately where it is, how to rise above ourselves, how to connect to it, how to start perceiving it, and try to live in it.

This sensation will escape us to the point that we will think that we have completely lost it, but it does not disappear anywhere because nothing disappears in spirituality. We will be able to reconnect with this point through mutual group efforts and even through the power of the recordings from the convention, just by turning them on.

Our common point of contact that exists outside of us has been born. We will use it to develop our common Kli. This is the next stage of our development.

The Foundation Of The Third Temple

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: Can we say that by virtue of the common efforts we made in the Arava desert and at the Convention, we were able to find a place and lay the foundation for the Third Temple?

Answer: In Hebrew, “Temple” is “the House of Holiness,” where “House” is Malchut, and “holiness” is Bina. Malchut that is connected to Bina, having received its qualities and having its own Partzuf, is called “the House of Holiness.”

This House is built by the group, or in the language of primary sources, by the “holy society.” This is talking about a society that wants to advance and acquire the force of bestowal. It is able to build the House of Holiness.

As a whole, there is one, common soul and we are trying to assemble it from broken parts. Our inner Kelim, corresponding to Galgalta ve Eynaim divide into three components: root, soul, body. Besides, there are also external Kelim corresponding to AHP, which form the clothing and castle.

Inner Kelim are the group, our unity. After all, in spirituality there are no single individuals, but only a society. This group builds the correction of the external Kelim for itself, also called “the Temple.”

In the past we have already done this twice—on the third and then on the second stages. Now we have to gather into a group, meaning correct the inner Kelim, and then go on to correcting the external ones. The Temple cannot be erected without a builder. Stated differently, AHP cannot be corrected if there is no Galgalta ve Eynaim.

Thus, having begun to correct ourselves, of course we have laid the foundation for the construction of the Third Temple.

Coming Home, To One’s Spiritual Root

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: Why are some friends able to go to the convention and others are not?

Answer: We study everything we need in order to enter the spiritual world. Once we enter this sensation, we will begin to study other levels of attainment of the universe. We will already be in the upper world, like on a tour.

And then we’ll be able to understand where each one of us comes from: This is your spiritual home, your source, this one is mine, and this one is his. We’ll understand how different we are, and at the same time, we will realize why from all of humanity specifically we needed to unite into this collective Kli that represents the entire mankind. This vessel is very diverse but at the same time integrally connected due to our efforts, and this is exactly why all other people on earth can connect to it.

Today we still don’t understand where each one of us comes from, from which spiritual root, and why we connect in this specific way. We don’t know why we exist as we do, men, women, with different personalities and qualities, or why one’s destiny suddenly lands him somewhere North or South, and another one lands in the center of the civilized world, and so on.

Later a person will understand how necessary all of this was. He’ll see that all of his qualities, origin, and distance or closeness to others, absolutely everything comes from his higher spiritual root to the tiniest elements of his physical and spiritual body. And this is why no one will have any questions about why he was created one way and not another. He’ll see that he was placed in the most optimal conditions that enable him to reach his correction, including his presence at the convention or participation in local groups out of lack of another opportunity.

We need to understand that everything comes from the need for our common correction. For this reason let everyone make the most effort in the place and state where the Creator has placed him or her. If we make these efforts, everyone will necessarily receive absolute fulfillment for their soul. They will have no questions, no empty spaces in desires or the possibilities to perceive the upper world.

From Separated Egoists To A Single Whole

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: Does one’s perception of oneself as a separate individual need to disappear?

Answer: We all unite into one team. At first it’s a team where each one of us represents a separate individual, but we all act in coordination, like cogwheels that spin and try to synchronize the common movement. Then this connection becomes adhesion: Certain parts of every one of us join each other’s parts to such an extent that we don’t just wear out as we brush against one another and spin together like separate parts of one mechanism, but this entire mechanism becomes one whole void of any inconsistencies.

The absolutely full interaction between everyone brings us to the point whereby we stop perceiving ourselves as existing separately or even as our collective “we,” but begin to perceive ourselves as one single whole. This transition to one single whole is our goal, and there we begin to perceive the upper force, the Creator.

The world must strive to properly connect all its parts. Global interconnection, world integration, the crisis, and all the problems are obligating us to do this today. This is enough for people without points in the heart to reach an absolutely coordinated interaction between them. This is called “we.”

And “we” with the points in the heart must unite these points. Other people do not have them. But we do, and we must connect our points in the heart so that they will unite into one whole, not into “we,” but into union, “one.” This is our next level. On the level of union into “one,” meaning when we are like one man with one heart, we begin to feel the upper world and the upper force that controls and maintains the entire creation, including our universe and us.

The world consisting of separate egoists will have to unite because it can’t survive any other way. This is nature’s condition, which it sets for our egoistic desires. And when people with a point in the heart wish to rise above their egoistic desires, these points connect into a spiritual vessel.

So it’s as if three degrees exist here: egoistic (separated), egoistic (connected, combined in reciprocity and integration), and spiritual, when everything connects into a single whole.

Get Included Into The Common Thoughts And Desires!

Dr. Michael LaitmanA person who is far away from us should by all means try to pursue the same actions and activities that take place in the main group. It’s desirable that he should find friends like himself to organize gatherings and meals similar to ours and to participate with us in all our events. We sing, and you sing with us; we dance, and you dance; we take part in the lessons, talks, and various events, and you, if it’s possible, physically participate in the same actions.

It’s desirable to free the three days of the convention from your everyday activities, not to be burdened with any problems or be distracted by anything, but to be included in our common thoughts and desires. When you are somewhere else, for instance, in London, try to ensure that the everyday surroundings don’t affect you. You should exclude them as much as possible so that you are in a room, apartment, or house where there are no strangers and nothing but your thoughts and feelings.

It’s in this way that you’ll organize a kind of mini-convention and will be with us by your own efforts and actions. This is identical to your direct presence at the event because by multiplying everything by the distance and your desires for unity, you will enter our common Kli (vessel) with us and feel and receive everything we have.

It’s not important where a person is. If he cannot come, but his heart and soul are with us, the distance does not matter.

Do I Feel Good With Friends, Or With Friends Among Whom The Creator Resides?

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: At the convention we felt life, but now descents are depicting a completely different picture for me. I want to return to the basis, the middle line, to that which I have to rely on. Or should we tread forward blindly until we come out to the Light? Do we have any source of support?

Answer: Besides the group, all other details of perception, qualities, and foundations disappear and do not provide support for a person.

Moreover, by delving into the group, a person also sees that he cannot really rely on the friends’ mutual guarantee either because they are also part of the conditions that bring him to a greater need for support. Gradually he loses firm ground in the group as well, until a person’s searches bring him to the need to reveal the Creator. Only in Him will a person find the true support, the root, and the answer to all his problems, failures, questions, and troubles.

We have to go through many steps on this path, and we begin with what is realistic for us. A person always stops in the place that seems safe to him. And therefore, the best thing is when all the hopes come from him through the group to the Creator, when he understands that the solution, fulfillment, and correct analysis will come only from there. And everything else are intermediate phases.

For example, today our hopes end with the group, “We are together! That’s great! How wonderful my friends are!” We still don’t discover the need for something higher, we still don’t demand a higher force to be revealed in the group more than simply a circle of friends. But this will gradually come.

Question: Baal HaSulam writes about how easy it is to control our desire with two reins: pleasure and pain. Then why is it so difficult for us to direct our desire in the spiritual direction in the group? What are we missing?

Answer: You cannot connect to the friends. Your pleasure lies in suppressing others and holding your ground. But others are also holding their ground, so how can you unite? Envy, passion, and pride—all of these initial qualities separate us from one another.

You suppose that you can unite, but I don’t think so. This is possible only with the help of the Light that reforms, by means of very difficult work. This requires the force of the Torah, the Kabbalistic method.

By uniting, we will reach Malchut of Infinity. Besides unity, there is nothing. Unite the friends in the group and you will get the world of Infinity. Everything begins and ends there.

You think this is simple. You are asking why we aren’t succeeding, what is wrong? But it can’t be any other way because you don’t demand for the Creator to dwell among you. You don’t even see that you are incapable of unity by yourself, and you even suppose that you are capable of it. You still haven’t revealed the truth.

Question: So how can we help each other do this?

Answer: There can be many external actions. The question is: How much do they incite a person to inner effort? This is our problem. So keep trying.

We still don’t have the need to connect ourselves, the group, the world and the Creator into one whole. We have to reveal this need faster since otherwise it will expire and the world will be in trouble.

The Reshimo of Malchut of Infinity, which becomes revealed in the group, is the result of many efforts that we make. And this work has to be done precisely in the group. It is the field where all fruits grow. It contains everything necessary, and our efforts determine how quickly we will be able to connect everything into one. The faster we do this, the easier and more pleasant our path will be.

The Point Of Unity: Why Not And When Yes?

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: Why wasn’t I able to connect to the feeling of the point of unity at this convention? Why is this sensation still hidden? How can I support it if I don’t feel it?

Answer: Certainly, many of our friends have not been able to feel this point of unity yet. In any case, this first of all depends on time. There is a category of time in our world, and nothing can be done about it. A person can’t come today and enter this feeling tomorrow. He has to go through various states, to experience them. A person has to be inside of our group for some time and advance the same way we did some time ago. This is first.

Second, a person has to be properly prepared for the convention. We were getting ready by uniting in the desert as well as working hard preparing for the convention technically. We began the work in August in order to prepare all the necessary technical equipment, events, study materials, and programs.

Everything depends on a person. If he was interested in participating with us, even as a “little one,” he would reach the state where he would feel the same as we to some extent. The majority of the participants, including women who joined this sensation, felt it. This is the first convention where we were able to reach the point of unity.

What should a person who didn’t feel it do? Read, study, and disseminate. It’s desirable to go over the convention materials a few times: lectures, all activities, gatherings, discussions, the opening ceremony, and dancing. There are about 100 hours of video recordings; we need to continue taking little tastes of it, watching little bits of it each day.

In addition, starting from today and on, it’s necessary to start preparation for the next convention in the desert that will take place in a couple of months. It doesn’t matter where a person is located and where he will be physically at that time. The main thing is to prepare oneself for the connection with others. This connection is a virtual one; it’s not located in some physical place that one would have to watch from afar.

I didn’t dance in the convention hall, but that didn’t prevent me from being connected to those who were. Certainly, contact helps, but the time will come when we won’t need it.

The Point Of Unity Is On The Machsom

Convention at the Arava DesertQuestion: What is the point of unity that we reached at the convention? Could you describe it in more detail? Where is it with respect to the Machsom (the barrier separating us from spirituality)? How is it felt? How do people recognize feeling it? How do they determine that they hold on to it?

Answer: This point is located on the Machsom itself. This point is the unity between our world group consisting of thousands of people who are interconnected, want to be tied together, and try to connect with each other in all possible kinds of relations. The goal of our connection is to reach mutual bestowal called “mutual guarantee.”

We are ready to support and think about each other and to take care of the common Kli among us. That is, we are ready to strengthen each other and want everyone to awaken. There is no competition or rivalry here, when I would want to become stronger at the expense of others and not think about them. On the contrary, I want for all of us to become stronger, and for my friends, who in this case become as my children to me, to feel the result of my efforts first.

With respect to the group, I have to feel myself in the following three states:

  1. I take care of them as if they were the lower ones, like a mother takes care of her children or the Creator takes care of the creatures.
  2. I relate to them as to the greater ones, considering them the greatest people of the generation. I’m ready to serve them and do everything for them in order to get the greatness of the goal and strength from them.
  3. I want to be their friend, their equal, neither higher nor lower, and for all of us to unite in one “embrace.”

In this “embrace,” we reach a fusion of our desires. From these three relations toward the other, each of us and all of us together reach one desire, one thought, and want the Creator to fill us.

But here, we then discover that we’re not connected enough. There is still something with which we need to connect. Then we demand  for the Light that reforms to unite and then fill us. This is what our work is about.

Advice On Caring For A Newborn

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: During the lesson you said that right now the main thing for your students is to grow the feeling born between them (the common desire towards the quality of mutual bestowal), which already exists independently from them on its own, like a newborn who has separated from his mother. What should our next actions be like?

Answer: Now we only need to strive to grow the newborn desire by using the egoism that has appeared in us. We should add it to our common connection and thereby strengthen it, like an athlete who becomes stronger through using the resistance of sports equipment.

Question: Since the connection is realized by the male part of our world group, how does the female part participate in it?

Answer: The female part supports the men in this, obligates, reinforces, and reassures them. It also actively engages in the dissemination of the idea of mutual guarantee, the integrated connection of all of humanity, for the 99%, meaning the general public.

Separated Under A Stream Of Light

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: When we speak about love of others, it seems trivial to most people. How can we convey our message to them?

Answer: Don’t talk to them about love of others. Instead, explain the laws of the integral system that demand a stronger mutual connection between us. The separation in humanity is growing and so is the need for connection. This is why we feel worse and worse.

These are simple things that can be presented by a linear diagram. Every day, we need to increase the connection between us. By 6,000 years, we will have to unite all of our desires. Today, we are being required to connect at a certain level, let’s say, X2. In the year 2012, the requirement will rise to the level of X3. If we don’t reach this level, we will experience suffering according to our incompatibility with nature.

Today, we experience a crisis, a fall, and it is perfectly natural. However, we can reverse the trend if we raise our level of unity. If we do that, we will feel a rise instead of a fall. It all depends on us.

We have the wisdom of Kabbalah that was meant to develop the recognition of evil in us. Indeed, the more we lag behind, the more separated we become. The Light increases, while we are more detached and disconnected, and this makes us feel worse and worse.

The Light lets us feel the global and integral world that is mutually connected in all of its parts. Accordingly, we gradually feel that we are becoming more and more opposite to the integral world. So, we are not speaking about love, but about the laws of nature, about its development.

After the December convention, we will see that the world will be deteriorating much faster. On our part, we will be able to hasten the development in a positive way, and we must make every effort to achieve that.
