A Willingness to Listen

267.01If I weren’t involved in dissemination, I wouldn’t leave the house. Ever. If we start asking ourselves whether the world is expecting this from us, whether it will look at it favorably…

How could the world possibly look at us favorably?! From the start, we must completely throw out any possibility of trying to accommodate that! We should only care about one thing: how to present ourselves as pleasantly as possible in their eyes, but without compromising our mission. No distortion, no substitution of the task.

“As pleasantly as possible” means that since it’s hard for them to grasp our idea, we should make it as easy as possible for them to perceive it. But aside from that, we must be like flint. This is what is entrusted to us, and this is what I do. People receive it just fine.

I have given lectures in various countries before thousands of people who had no favorable attitude toward me, toward Israel, or toward Kabbalah.

But when I explained that there is a difference between me and them, and that I had come to speak precisely about that difference, about the purpose of the world, why it exists, what I must do in it, and what you must do in it, and why for thousands of years we have been in this opposition, where it comes from and for what reason—they listened!

There is a willingness to listen because the problem is evident. Moreover, they responded calmly, without shouting, without voicing opposition not against me nor against the topic. They listened from beginning to end. The explanation was simple. This should always be our motto, the central message of every one of our presentations.

Otherwise, why did you come? To talk about the upper worlds? Why? Baal HaSulam says: What do I care how many angels are in heaven and what their names are? You came to speak about what truly concerns us, and that it concerns us for a reason. And the audience will listen.
