To Be Connected with the Land of Israel
And behold, the Lord stood over him and said, “I am the Lord, God of your father Abraham… This land on which you lie, to you I will give it and to your descendants” (Rabash, Assorted Notes, 368, “And Behold, the Lord Stood Over Him”).
Question: Why did the Creator promise, “The land on which you lie, I will give to your descendants”? Does it mean we must rise, and then He will give us this land?
Answer: No, it is enough that a person lies on the ground, meaning they desire to be as close as possible to the quality of the earth, to gradually inherit it from the Creator.
The word “land” (Eretz) comes from “Ratzon,” which means “desire.” A person gathers all the desires with which he wishes to turn to the Creator and asks the Creator for the ability to fill them.
“To lie on the land” means there is no state lower than this. If a person agrees to it, they will establish contact with this land. They want to be connected to it with their inner desire.
“To possess the land of Israel” means that the desire arising in them toward the Creator must be elevated and expanded so that it occupies all their consciousness.
