The Purpose of Exiles

232.04The correction of souls proceeds from the subtle vessels to the coarse ones. First, the subtle part of the soul, called “Israel,” receives the Torah, and then, through connection and mutual inclusion with it, all souls, without exception, with great Aviut, join the condition of mutual guarantee and reach the state of “as one man with one heart.”

In order to move from fathers to sons, additional Aviut was needed, which they acquired during the Egyptian exile by mixing with the Egyptians and taking Kelim from them. In addition, some of the Egyptians joined Israel.

This means that due to their stay in Egypt, they multiplied, transformed from a family into a nation, and received additional Aviut through mixing and mutual inclusion.

The same applies to the last exile. It is said: “Israel went into exile only to add the souls of the nations to themselves.” The last exile among the nations of the world had the purpose of adding the coarse vessels to the subtle ones. Of course, the subtle vessels are also in descent, in decline; otherwise, it would not be called “exile.”

However, after the last exile, the same condition arises again as when leaving Egypt. Those who are ready to leave exile can achieve the status of “as one man with one heart,” and then the condition of mutual guarantee and receiving the Torah can be realized in them too.
