By studying Kabbalah, a person begins to reveal that all of reality was organized by the Creator in order for the person to reveal all His actions, according to the rule: “The advantage of the Light comes from the darkness.”

We are thrown into a new state at every moment, and while in it, we have to demand the Light in order to gain a spiritual mind and understanding. The only thing we need is an aspiration toward the Light, above any situations that come our way. A person should think only about how to place himself beneath the influence of this invisible Light, and the Light will, in turn, bring forth a new picture of the world within him.

This should let us understand how important authentic Kabbalah books are. After all, without a book that was written by a true Kabbalist, we can never attract the Light of Correction. So, we have to be grateful to Kabbalists like Baal HaSulam, who left us their books. There is simply no other force which will influence us and allow us to attain spirituality when we study and want to attract the Light.

And the Kabbalistic source does not necessarily have to be a book. You can also study over the Internet at the Kabbalah Learning Centre or watch our TV channel, Kabbalah TV, because all of our study materials and lessons are based on the authentic sources, even if a person does not understand the language that is used. The most important thing is to be together and desire the Light of Correction. It doesn’t matter how much theory you know. What’s important is to strive to enter the material with your sensations.

If a person attracts the Upper Light in every situation he is in, through every thought and desire, then he corrects himself. This is what the speed and might of one’s correction depend on.

Scientists hope that the Large Hadron Collider will help them discover new particles, to reveal what existed before the universe was created, and to find out about what was there before matter formed. By going deeper into the micro-world, it’s almost like they’re going back to the time when the spark of spiritual energy broke through from the Upper World to the material level, and began creating matter in it.

But even though scientists are hoping to reveal this state, they will instead encounter an effect where everything just disappears… After all, people and all their instruments are built on the egoistic principle of capturing, absorbing, and revealing what we are able to “catch” inside ourselves.

We can only reveal nature to a specific point – the limit of our senses’ perception. However, the Upper World of bestowal is situated beyond our current perception. In order to investigate it, we must “equip” ourselves with its quality – bestowal.

If we begin to gradually acquire this property, we start rising up the spiritual degrees, until we reach the point from which the spiritual forces began their descent down to our world, before its conception. And on the border of the worlds, we will be able to understand how the spark of the Upper Light was able to break through into our world and create all is filling.

This is why scientists will eventually come to the conclusion that they must first change themselves before they can obtain results. The observer is the one who must change! Indeed, science is already acknowledging that the observation of an event influences the results of their experiments, whether they are researching elementary particles or entire galaxies. In the past, however, science asserted that the world exists independent of us, independent of the observer, of man, the earth and life on it.

If the observer can change the outcome of the observed, then the reality we see depends on us and does not exist independently, or outside of us. Thus, in order to move forward in our research of nature, we have to acquire the quality of bestowal. We will then discover “the Creator” – the force that creates the world.

The first stage on the spiritual path is recognition of evil and its purpose, which is to lead me to the understanding of my entire nature. The program which draws the picture of reality for me by giving me the sensation of this world and my part in it, is called ego, or the desire to receive pleasure only for myself.

It locks me inside, engulfs me and draws all of my attention, making me think only of myself. I act according to that program, unable to even imagine that there is another option, another reality. What can possibly be done to change this perception and behavior?

Our nature itself leads us to recognition of its evil, leaving us no chance to escape it. It has power over us, locks us inside and constantly coerces.

This is the worst kind of slavery, when a person reveals that he is a prisoner of his own nature and can only obey its orders. He knows in advance that he has no choice but to obey, even though each order he follows, will further harm him.

Kabbalists have a parable, where the angel of death comes to a person and extends a sword with a drop of poison on its tip. A man obediently opens his mouth, knowing that by taking it he will die, yet he licks it. He has no other choice.

It is a great inner drama. All of man’s work is in realization of his exile and bondage. When a man is completely in despair, the point in the heart awakens inside him and begins to shine for him, showing him that there’s another world and a blessed shore on which to land.

He can’t continue to sit inside a shell forever! He has the ability to hatch  and climb out as a worm that comes out of bitter radish and suddenly sees the sun and breathes the clean air.

A person can then hear that there is a method that allows escape from the servitude and terrible life where the pointless cycle repeats itself: birth is succeeded by death. He discovers that there’s a means to break that vicious cycle and rise.

The true reality can only be seen through the quality of bestowal, which contradicts our egoistic knowledge. Our egoistic qualities depict an incorrect picture of the world to us, giving us false goals and facts opposite to the truth. People are yet to reveal how mistaken all the earthly sciences are. They will all end up “hanging in thin air,” having lost their foundation.

Right now people think that science is an indisputable truth that they can rely on. But this is only so as long as they exist inside the world’s egoistic quality.

However, as soon as one begins ascending above this world, one discovers that all the previous laws no longer apply. That’s because everything the human mind has discovered to this day are the laws of the egoistic desire. If one changes one’s desire to a desire for bestowal, then the laws will also change, as will science. One will suddenly see that the laws are no longer working: to his surprise, vinegar will start to burn the same way as alcohol. (This is an allusion to what is written in the Talmud: “He who told the oil to burn will tell the vinegar to burn.)

Of course, these changes won’t be critical, because our world will exist until the End of Correction. It’s just that in addition to this world, we will reveal new, spiritual desires, and inside them we will see new phenomena.

How did people create science? They did it inside their desire, inside themselves. People noticed that one egoistic desire is accompanied by one phenomenon, and another desire – by another. And it’s the same on every level of our world, be it still, vegetative, animate or human.

All of science is founded on such observations. For example, in mechanics I take an egoistic desire on the still level and measure which actions correspond to specific desires. In essence, this is still the Light and Kli interacting with one another.

We perform the same type of research on the still, vegetative and animate levels of nature. This is how all science arises – because man is the one researching it all!

So, as long as we exist inside one, egoistic nature, which is the still (lowest) level of desire, we will keep researching everything inside it. But if we add higher layers to it, those belonging to the desire to bestow, then our perception of the laws of nature will change.

We will reveal new phenomena in nature, and it will appear as if nature has changed. But in fact, the only thing that ever changes is our desire, and when it does, we feel other facts inside it.

Suffering is pushing man towards entering a higher dimension and to waking up from this sick, deformed dream where he feels himself as existing in a shattered reality.

He can look back and understand that by causing harm onto others he was only hurting himself. If he only knew then what he knows now!

He looks back and sees that those parts of reality that appeared foreign to him and which he only wanted to exploit, are in actuality, close to him and more importantly, are parts which he considers as himself.

He will see that the part which he sensed as his own “I,” in actuality, isn’t at all important. This is because the force of desire that is revealed in his external parts is many times more potent, and they become most important to him.

He sees that everything was deception and that by hating and exploiting all that surrounded him he was only harming himself. It was all a big mistake.

These revelations help him advance until he reaches full equilibrium with the entire universe being revealed and he begins to identify with it.

In coming to know that he belongs to this vast universe and that the universe belongs to him, he reveals the Upper force which fills everything.

It is impossible to divide the worlds. Our world, in which we exist, is the last level of all the worlds, and we have to remain at this level until the very end of correction. We must only correct our attitude to it, and then our proper attitude on the level of this world, together with our proper attitude on the level of the spiritual world, will turn us into human beings.

Therefore, we cannot just leave this world and “go away” to a monastery. We cannot just pray from dawn ‘till dusk and shut ourselves off from society. Rather, we have to work and study, have a family, get married and take care of our children. A person has to be part of all the systems that are customary for his age group and time period.

Without this, it would be impossible to advance. The Kabbalists of the past did not even accept students until they were married. My teacher Rabash did not let anyone who was unemployed study with him. And it doesn’t matter how much money a person has; he still has to work and stay busy. He has to have all the regular family problems, just like the average person, and be able to put food on the table for his family.

If a person refuses to take part in this entire “theater of life,” then he does not advance in the spiritual world. After all, this is all a single system. We must live in both worlds simultaneously.

Nothing was created in vain. It seems to us that this world develops independently of us, starting from the Big Bang and going through the entire evolutionary process, while our spiritual development happens separately. But in fact, this is all a single system, which is only divided in our perception. Our perception of reality depicts things in the material world as divided into the still, vegetative, animate and human levels, and it also divides the spiritual world into the same levels.

However, this division exists only inside us, while the only thing that exists outside is the Upper Light and our desires. Meanwhile, we perceive the connection between the Light and the desire on two levels. Therefore, it is impossible to separate and discard half of my Kli, since it is the foundation on which I stand. For this reason, every person must take care of his regular life.

I am a vessel of perception, into which the Light enters. My perception is comprised of five parts or desires. In one desire, I sense my inner essence – my “I,” the human being within me; in another desire I sense my body – the animate part of me; in the third desire I sense all that is close to me; in the fourth desire I sense my environment – society, humankind, nature; and in the fifth desire I sense something even more exalted and distant from me.

Everything depends on the desire – how close it is to me and how the Light affects it. The impressions from all the desires are then gathered and projected onto a screen in my mind, where this whole picture is shown to me.

The difference between this and a movie is that I actually live my life on this screen. This movie is my life and my perception of reality.

The corporeal perception just described does not differ from the spiritual one, where you also have a screen that is influenced by forces, which paint the picture of the spiritual world for you. The difference is that unlike the spiritual world, in this world I am not aware of and do not participate in the creation of this picture of the world inside of me.

However, when I exist in the spiritual world, I “create” the movie by changing my qualities. This movie will be played inside me depending on my connection to the Upper Force, the projector. The degree of this connection is my ability to launch the playback.

Our goal is to make the perfect movie, which will reveal the complete connection and love between you and the Creator.

There is nothing but forces in the spiritual world. But the connection between them is determined by your perception (world-year-soul in a ready-made reality). And the Creator is also a detail of your perception. He is something outside of you. That is to say, from within your inner reality, you deduce something that provides and sustains it, and you call this part, “the Creator.” It is you who distinguishes and “depicts” Him inside your qualities.

The same thing is true regarding the rest of the picture (world-year-soul). When you are in the spiritual world, you reveal the spiritual matrix of forces, “world-year-soul and a ready-made reality.” You then reveal a different order of forces that influence one another. They contain an inner part (the soul) and an outer part (the world). And you understand some of the forces, seeing them as cause and consequence; this is the year. They contain an Upper Thought and a force that leads the process; this is the ready-made reality.

The spiritual world consists of the same parts and connections between them as the material world. However, we can only feel the spiritual world to the degree our sensations enter it.

Forces descend from Above into our world, and they have inanimate, vegetative, animate and human qualities. This is what we observe: the expression of the Upper Forces in our world as objects and actions.

Our encounter with the details of perception gives rise to the forms. For example, say I see an object before me now. It appears to me in a specific form, but if I had different qualities, then I would see a different form. Baal HaSulam gives the example of a table: I see it one way, but an angel sees it through its qualities.

Reality or perception is produced when my qualities unify with the Light’s, due to our having common or similar qualities. Beyond my perception, there is only Infinity, out of which I perceive just the part that I have shared qualities with. So how can I attune myself to having shared qualities with the Upper World? I can do it because inside me, I have the same coordinate system (world–year–soul and a ready-made reality) as it has inside. And when I ask for it, the Upper Light makes my system similar to the Upper Level. This is called the correction of the soul. It’s when I make my inner system similar to Infinity, in a specific measure. I thereby determine my spiritual level and the degree to which I perceive Infinity.

There is no sense in trying to correct anything in our world, as it is a world of consequences, which descend from the spiritual roots. However, if we can somehow affect the upper roots, we will also  be able to change the material world.

The roots cannot be affected by separate individuals. It is only by uniting together that we can achieve a connection with the root, since we do not exist there as individuals. In the roots, we are all united as one system.

Therefore, if we wish to change our reality, we have to unite. When we have this desire, it will draw the Light upon us, which will correct everything here in this world.

We will then truly “correct the world.” But if we try to correct the externality – the external actions, behavior, or religious commandments – then it is pointless, since there is nothing to correct here. All of these all merely an imprint on the inanimate matter of what happens Above.

This is like trying to hit an image that’s projected onto a wall using light, or kissing it and asking for forgiveness. That is what our actions are like, but we think we can change something this way.

Only a person’s inner corrections can influence the material world. This is why we disseminate Kabbalah instead of encouraging people to correct the ecology, the crisis, and finances.

Nevertheless, a person is always more willing to “correct” the material things, especially if he knows that his efforts will be seen and valued by others, or if he can be proud of his own actions, society will support him. In this case, a person is willing to do anything, and this drives him to carry out such actions.

Inner, spiritual work is difficult precisely for this reason: it isn’t valued by the people around us or even by our own egoism. However, the true work occurs only inside a person, and it does not depend on his body or the physical actions he makes.
