The Best Gift For A Child

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: What will a child be like if raised by the Kabbalistic method of upbringing? What will it give him that’s so special?

Answer: First of all, he will gain a connection with the upper force, with the all-inclusive force of nature, or in other words, with the concealed force that controls and arranges everything from within and determines everything. When a person feels this force, he feels from within what is desirable and what is not, what is one way and what is another way. That’s because he becomes a part of this force and they work together in one system.

The Creator becomes revealed to a person from inside and not from somewhere on the outside. In general, all spiritual reality becomes revealed inside of us. As a result, we become one whole with the Creator, although it does not happen immediately but gradually.

By revealing the Creator in this way, I really do feel Him. I know how to activate myself correctly, without making mistakes. An animal does not make mistakes because it is controlled by nature, but man makes mistakes in the area where he did not receive the necessary “upbringing” or instinct from nature. Instead he was made “smart” by the environment, which does not understand what it does.

However, if a person becomes similar to nature in that area, then he does not make mistakes. The upper force operates inside of him and therefore he definitely, instinctively achieves success in everything he does.

Of course, it’s worthwhile to provide our children with this foundation. What can be better than that? After all, you create a special “territory” in a child where he is together with the Creator. What can come close to this kind of gift?

Life On The Degree Of Bestowal

Dr. Michael LaitmanIn the process of reincarnation, the only thing that changes is the external form, our attitude or “clothing,” but not the inner, fundamental state. It is impossible to talk about that state at all in terms of loss of life, death.

The Light that expands in the spiritual Partzuf is called the Light of life. When it leaves the Partzuf, death comes. However, in spirituality things never go through life and death as we understand them because a person is always above his fulfillment. He is on the level of the screen and Reflected Light, in the state of Hafetz Hesed because he has acquired the level of bestowal.

If the Light comes, then it’s good because a person can receive it for the sake of bestowal and this gives him more life. And if the Light of life leaves and the Light of Hassadim remains, it is also life, but a small degree of it, until reaching the tiniest illumination that provides the bare minimum, a dreaming state. However, one way or another a person is always connected with the force of life.

Therefore, the science of Kabbalah does not attribute any significance to the bodily sensations that comprise our life and death. In Kabbalah these are completely different notions which are nothing like what we understand them to be.

The Soul Will Teach A Person

Dr. Michael LaitmanIn the corporeal world, our perception of beauty constantly changes, and we are forced to follow the opinion of the majority. After all, we live in a human society and respect its values whether we like it or not. This is our nature. At the end, every person will esteem the things that the majority in his environment respects.

We do not even realize how unreasonable these values are. So frequently fashions change in education, culture, the industrial sector, creativity, and even food. We see them come and go, without any actual value. Everything beyond the limits of our animate existence that the body requires (simple shelter, family, and food) has value in our eyes only because the society appreciates it.

But spirituality is different because nobody is dragging us there. We need to build our own society and awaken it ourselves so it would pull us after it and through it, to spirituality. In other words, we are given free will in the spiritual development, and no one will force us there!

Of course, the Creator stimulates us: He arranges a hard life for us in this world and deprives us of fulfillment. But on the other hand, life is no longer as difficult as it was in the past, and we are not starving. Yet, we feel an inner emptiness that pushes us to develop. And when we discover this emptiness and start thinking about the purpose, the meaning, and the secret of life, but are unable to answer these questions, we realize that no one can tell or explain it to us, nobody pulls us after them.

We look around and fail to see any examples. We receive examples in everything else in life: the choice of a profession, the style of our home, the kind of things to buy, what to do, who to be like. The human society gives us examples of everything. And only spirituality remains without examples, as if you existed in an empty vacuum, and every day, even every moment you are faced with the questions: what to do, where to go, where to get examples of spiritual values and purpose?

This is a big problem. But on the other hand, this is a consequence of the freedom given to us! This is because when a person enters spirituality, he builds his own soul. Nobody teaches him. There are many advices and books, but all of them are merely general explanations around this topic, which only support us a little.

Ultimately, everything depends on the person himself. He needs to build his own environment which would provide him with the spiritual values and direction and be just as sound as the environment in our world with all its examples. Without this, he naturally would not know how to advance.

This is the main difference between the spiritual and the corporeal advancement.

Wake Up The Men!

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: How should women support the unification among the men?

Answer: This is a very powerful and important action from the women’s end. They can motivate the men to advance spiritually, to unite, to study, and to disseminate.

In the same way, in the spiritual world, Zeir Anpin starts moving and acting only when Malchut, the female part, motivates him to do so by raising MAN to him and demanding correction.

A man will not awaken without a woman and her desire—both at home and in the group. Therefore, the female part has to wake up and awaken the male part because otherwise the men won’t attain the goal.

We turn to all the women of the world Kli, asking them to unite together and put pressure on the men in different ways. Then the men will feel that they have to advance and that they cannot calm down.

A Society That Helps Start A Spiritual Life

Dr. Michael LaitmanSociety is the foundation for spiritual advancement. And just like the people who ran from Jerusalem during the time of the Second Temple as they saw spirituality collapse and wanted to form a small society to hold on to the spiritual connection between them, the Upper Force, and hid in the vicinity of the Dead Sea; we also want to form a society like that.

For now, it may not be very big: “only” some hundred thousand people, which is not much compared to the entire humanity that now must awaken and connect. But we have to believe Kabbalists who say that we are always given enough strength, both in quantity and quality, and if we mobilize it according to our abilities and given conditions, we will be able to reveal the upper force.

Once we connect, that spark will ignite between us and distribute the upper Light throughout our entire system. This Light will fill us, and we will find ourselves in the spiritual world.

Our primary task is to form a society, a place for the Light to be revealed. The proper society is called “Shechina,” the place where the Light (Shochen) reigns. There are certain laws for the existence of this society. The Creator is the giver, Shochen, we are His Shechina, and we need to prepare our desire for Him to be revealed in us.

The upper Light cannot be revealed in one person; there have to be at least two. But two are not enough either because different egoistic problems immediately arise between them. This is why the bigger the society the easier it is for the person.

On one hand, if the society is very strong, it will be easier for the person since he will not need to invest so much into it. And on the other hand, he will receive inspiration from the others who are preparing a place for him among them, where he could enter. He will only need to cancel himself before the society, and this will be enough.

He will literally grow like an infant in its mother’s arms or an embryo in the mother’s womb. This society will become his refuge, the “Noah’s Ark,” his mother’s womb, from where he will draw all the forces to begin his spiritual life. Thereby he will advance.

And even though our group is not that big compared to the nation of Israel or the entire world, our possibilities are enormous! We can raise the entire mankind within us!

Every one of us can receive the upper Light only if he becomes a part of the mother’s womb (“Rechem” or “womb” comes from the word “Rachamim” or “mercy,” bestowal). Otherwise, he will remain “sealed” for the Light, and he will only be able to perceive this world.

By not continuing the flow of the Light and passing it onto others, I block my path and prevent the Light from going through me. Then I will only perceive its tiny glow that paints this world to me.

A Spiritual Family

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: What does the correct family look like in the spiritual sense?

Answer: It is written, “Husband and wife, and the Shechina between them.” If we live for the sake of spiritual attainment, if we initially place this at the foundation of our connection, if this is our goal at every stage, if we both understand that this is exactly why we exist in the world, that this is the “pinnacle” of the family, that this is the reason why we give birth to children and work, if we feel that the thread connecting us with one another and with our children passes through the Creator, if we want Him to reign between us so the whole family would feel His presence, then this approach corrects all of our relationships. Then we have a successful family.

Primordial Fear

Dr. Michael LaitmanThe first commandment that was given to us is the commandment of fear. This means fearing whether I am advancing down the spiritual path, whether I am acquiring the spiritual world, whether I understand what I read the right way, and whether I really act in the group.

In short: Will I succeed? I have to be consumed with this worry all the time. If I relax, then I immediately get off the track leading to the goal.

In our world, psychology enumerates over 800 kinds of fear. Do I earn enough? Am I healthy? Will something bad happen to me?

However, in Kabbalah, we are not talking about derived fears, but the primordial fear: Am I going toward the goal? Will I be able to bestow? This is already worry for something for which I don’t feel the slightest need.

Will I feel this need? Will I acquire it sufficiently in order to make efforts and aim toward the goal? I have to carry out an entire process: from the smallest worry that isn’t even clear yet, to full fledged fear aimed precisely at the goal like an arrowhead, which brings me to the realization, “Do I sufficiently give to the Creator? Do we become equal in this way? Am I not in a lower position, like a guest who receives the host’s feast in a way that he isn’t ashamed?”

This fear is the first commandment. But it is something we have to acquire. We do not have it initially. The goal is invisible and I don’t care about the quality of bestowal. Do I really need love for the neighbor? But I have to come to need it to such a degree so as to feel fear, “What if I don’t attain it?”

This is simply an outrage from the perspective of egoism. It’s completely unnatural.

However, by means of the environment and the Light that reforms, we can attain this. Fear helps us attain the worry: Will I receive the Light so it will turn me into a person who worries about bestowal?”

Therefore, we are yet to go through a big process of building the necessary conditions. However, in reality it is possible to actualize it simply. In this regard everything depends on the extent of the efforts we make.

First of all, I have to really be scared for my spiritual path. “Am I advancing toward the goal correctly?” Secondly, only once I acquire fear does the quality of love come to me because there is no love without fear.

Revealing Oneness

Dr. Michael LaitmanWhen I say: “There is none else besides Him,” it means that I accept upon myself a certain function in the world and not just go with the flow, living one moment after the other, telling myself to “let it be.” On the contrary, each instant I focus my desires and thoughts on how to correct my connection with the world and strive to find in it a single governing force. This effort of mine is regarded as “If I am not for myself, who is for me?”

Suppose I get sick and am going to see a doctor, but while doing so, I don’t just tend to my animate body; rather, I think about how I add everything to this one force. After all, the physician, the medicine, and I are all parts of the integral system. The doctor is managed by the Creator, and the medicine was discovered because of Him. In other words, I must connect everything that seems to me as existing separately from each: the doctor, the medicine, my sickness, and myself to a singular source.

And later on when I recover, I must say that all of it from the start was unified. The Creator simply turned the circumstances so that I would unify them within myself and see His oneness.

Truth Is Unchanging

Dr. Michael LaitmanThe society is the only place where I can realize the act of bestowal. My attitude toward spirituality, toward the Creator, is tested by my attitude toward the society. This is the only way I can evaluate my state with regard to spirituality: Do I want to serve the others or to use them for my own benefit?

The Creator cares about the society since it is precisely the place where He can reveal Himself. It is Malchut of the world of Infinity, Shechina, His favorite child, and this is where He dwells and hides. Everything depends only on the well-being of the environment! The environment, the connection between everybody where each is aspiring to reveal the Creator, is the ultimate goal, the place where the Creator can be revealed to the created beings.

You give the Creator an opportunity to become revealed! This place and the Light that becomes revealed in it, meaning the Creator, have the same value and are inseparable from each other. Hence, as one advances, he realizes that the society in its internal essence is actually the Creator who dwells there (Boreh means "come and see"). We do not reveal anything but the corrected society which is, in fact, called the Creator.

Now we separate the two, but in the final, perfect state it’s impossible to divide anything. The Light and desire merge into one, and it’s impossible to say which is the first and which is the last. For us, all of creation starts from the fact that there is One, a point immersed in the Light. Relative to us, nothing exists before this state.

Kabbalists state that this adhesion, the Light, the force of bestowal, is nevertheless primary relative to the creature, the force of reception. But we are not able to perceive it since we act in terms of "time," meaning cause and result.

However, until we reveal a constant and eternal state, both cause and consequence exist only relative to the changes within us. But in a perfect state, there is no cause or consequence; there are no changes.

Indeed, if there is cause and effect, it means that inner corrections in the creature are still under way, that it hasn’t yet revealed the true state. In the true state, there are no changes already, and it means that there is no difference between the Creator and Creation.
