How To Find Your Real Identity

Dr. Micheal LaitmanQuestion: Does a person lose his or her individuality after death? Do we lose the originality inherent only to each of us?

Answer: The thing called originality in this world is an animal feature. It is absolutely useless and has no value for a spiritually advanced person.

One’s originality is revealed upon reaching unity with others, when we open our soul through the overall connection. Only a soul remains genuinely distinctive, whereas various earthly properties are temporary and disappear.

Question: What is so special about the soul?

Answer: It is unique because of the mysterious fact that it is similar to the Creator.

The soul is a desire that has a potential to transform itself and become similar to the Creator. And this similarity is in each individual soul.

Once Again About The Soul

laitman_610_2Question: What is the soul and how is it born?

Answer: A soul is a certain space inside a human being in which one senses the upper world.

In an ordinary person living in this world, there isn’t a soul; there is only a point, an embryo, a drop of semen, from which develops the speaking level.

If one starts developing him or herself, submitting oneself to the Upper Light’s influence, the Light transforms the drop into a soul that develops from our Reshimo (spiritual informational record).

Question: Does a soul have a gender?

Answer: No. There are various modifications of the soul, but it doesn’t really matter. Each one of us has a soul. But at the same time, there is one common soul for everyone.

Question: How do we calculate the number of souls? Is it possible that is an excess of them?

Answer: What does “an excessive of souls” mean? The soul does not exist apart from a human being. If one develops it internally, then one has a soul. If not, one doesn’t have a soul. Each one of us is granted a chance to cultivate a soul and feel the next level of existence, the future world.

Question: What do souls do after death?

Answer: Souls do not die and have nothing to do with life or death of a physical body.

Kabbalah Is For The Family

laitman_551_0Question: What is the meaning of life for a woman who has no family or kids? Could it be that she can find the meaning of life in fulfilling herself in society?

Answer: Today, most women hardly ask themselves that question. Having one child is the norm, and the family institution is becoming weaker because the rate of divorce in developed countries is now over 50%.

Today, we are less capable of sustaining a family and caring for children. At the same time, a woman still has the motherly instinct and the desire to have children, although, according to statistics, there aren’t that many. In addition, if the state ceased to encourage women to have children, there would be even fewer.

I believe that not more than 30% of the population have the desire to have children. The others have them automatically under the influence of social pressure guided by the assumption that, if everyone has kids and I don’t, it is time that I should get married also.

According to the wisdom of Kabbalah, a person must realize himself normally: to be a family man, have children, and care for his family. It is actually from this framework that he should grow spiritually as he learns the method of the right fulfillment of everything that he has been given in this world.

Question: Won’t the wisdom of Kabbalah lead to loneliness?

Answer: On the contrary, according to the wisdom of Kabbalah, a person must get married, have children, work and care for his family, and the Kabbalistic method teaches him how to sustain his family properly and to feel great pleasure and happiness in it for many years.

The wisdom of Kabbalah tells us about how the world develops and what is determined by nature, and how we need to fulfill, use, and manage everything correctly and not distort our life in any way.

The World To Come During This Life

laitman_944Question: Why do I need to correct what the Creator created? I feel as if I am protesting against Him.

Answer: We must protest so that we will unite and connect between us in spite of our ego. This is like a puzzle that parents buy for a child and ask him to assemble the 50-100 pieces together.

These efforts develop the child because he must imagine how to connect the separate parts. So also all of us, if we connect ourselves into the right complete puzzle, will then see a picture between us called the “world to come, the upper world.”

Question: Is this world to come the same world that we reach after death?

Answer: The world to come we see during this life. The world to come is characterized as the approaching new one in which we attain a wonderful unity between everyone, “like one person with one heart,”  “and you shall love your friend as yourself.” Thanks to this connection, we begin to discover a completely new level between us.

We are changed internally so that we begin to feel that all of us are connected. Thanks to this, humanity is integrated and unified with all the rest of nature: the still, vegetative, and animate are also joined to humanity. And then a person begins to understand and feel the entire world such that he includes it within himself.

That is what each one begins to feel: I, you, he, and everyone. For all of us are integrated into a single force, a single desire, a single thought, and thanks to this, we reach a completely good world. We rise above life and death, above all problems and troubles, here and now in this world, as is written: “You will see your world in your lifetime” (Berachot 17a).

All of this is in our power; so come, let’s take advantage of this opportunity correctly. Let’s think about this; only through our connection and unity will there be salvation for us and for the entire world.

Why Do We Need An Additional Sense?

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: How do we develop additional senses? Can we use ordinary science to invent instruments that enable people to see what a Kabbalist sees?

Answer: It is impossible to invent such instruments, but anyone can develop his senses and acquire the attributes of love and bestowal in order to transcend the boundaries of this world and feel the upper world, provided he correctly uses the Light that reforms.

If we get closer and establish good relationships between us, developing the sense of mutual bestowal, we draw the influence of the upper Light which provides us with new senses. Then we will see the upper reality, the upper forces, and will be able to use them in order to fully manage our life in all its details. We need the additional sense organ in order to manage our lives and improve them.

It is all in our hands. It is the nation of Israel that are given the opportunity to make our lives happy and to show an example for the whole world.

The Measuring Unit Of Bestowal: The Ten Sefirot

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: A scientist needs accurate instruments for his measurements. How can a Kabbalist measure his effect on reality and his own changes? It seems quite impossible.

Answer: On the contrary, when we begin to attain the upper world, we discover to what extent it is impossible to accurately measure anything in our world. A Kabbalist receives an accurate measuring instrument, like a meter in our world, called the Ten Sefirot, with which he measures everything.

If we open the book The Study of the Ten Sefirot (Talmud Eser Sefirot), we will see the accuracy of all the definitions. It is about the physics of the upper world that accurately determine and define the effect of the Light, the response of the vessels, and to what extent the vessels affect the Upper Light. Thus, we receive a detailed picture of all the upper forces that exist around our world and affect us. We discover how we can affect these forces from the bottom up in order to make their affect upon us a positive effect.  It is about accurate actions on our part in relation to the upper forces.

The wisdom of Kabbalah uses very accurate measurements of the Lights, the desires, and the vessels, and this is the highest level of a person’s psychology. The Kabbalistic method allows us to clarify our innermost attributes and to be in contact with the upper forces in order to work mutually and in maximum precision.

The Wonderful World Of Tomorrow

Dr. Michael LaitmanThe wisdom of Kabbalah is revealed specifically in our time because we are in year 5,776, which is at the end of a 6,000 year period of human development that began with the first revelation of the upper force to a human being.

So it is worthwhile for us to use the knowledge of this wisdom as rapidly as possible to leave all of our troubles behind and attain a completely different life. We see how the higher management influences us and constantly puts us into very difficult situations in order to obligate us to reflect on the question,  “What can help us improve our lives?”

Baal HaSulam wrote in the article, “Introduction to The Book of Zohar”, section 39: Now we have shown that the Creator’s desired goal for the Creation He created is to bestow upon His creatures, so they would know His truthfulness and greatness, and receive all the delight and pleasure He had prepared for them…

So where is all this?! Every person asks: “Where is this good or at least something that isn’t so bad?” And all of this is because we exist within our five senses and these limitations, and without evolving, we cannot attain what the Creator prepared for us. After all, they are not designed for this. We associate this life in which we now exist with our body. But this wonderful life and all the good that is prepared for us by the Creator belongs to our soul.

Question: Is this what is called the “world to come?”

Answer: Yes. But it is written: You will see your world in your lifetime (Berachot 17a).

We need to attain it here in this life and in this world. A person doesn’t acquire the next world after his death; he attains it here in our world.

Even now, we are in this infinite world, but we don’t feel it because our five senses of sight, hearing, smelling, taste, and touch lock us into this minute envelope called “this world.”

If we expand our senses with the help of the wisdom of Kabbalah, the wisdom of perception, and immediately depart from feeling this world, outside of its limitations, we feel the world to come, meaning the world that comes as a revelation. And there we discover all the pleasures that the Creator has prepared for us.

Baal HaSulam wrote in Shamati #75, “There Is a Discernment of the Next World, and There Is a Discernment of This World”: There is a discernment of “the next world,” and there is a discernment of “this world.” The next world is considered “faith,” and this world is considered “attainment.”

It is written about the next world, “they shall eat and they shall delight,” meaning that there is no end to the satiation. This is so because everything that is received by faith has no limits. However, what is received through attainment already has limits, since everything that comes in the Kelim of the lower one, the lower one limits it. Hence, there is a limit to the discernment of this world.

Faith is the new force that we acquire with the help of studying the wisdom of Kabbalah. We receive the power of faith, a unique sense that helps us open the borders of this world and begin to feel what is beyond it.

We expand the world just like a child who goes out of his room and sees a vast world: However, what is received through attainment already has limits, since everything that comes in the Kelim of the lower one, the lower one limits it. Hence, there is a limit to the discernment of this world.

Question: What limits is Baal HaSulam talking about here?

Answer: If we go out of our five senses and acquire an additional sense called the sense of bestowal, love, unity, and connection, then through that, we move to a wider world, a more expanded sphere than the one in which we feel our lives and existence.

It is called redemption when you go out of the framework of this world, like from a dungeon or prison where you feel that everything is pressuring you, is limited in time and space, and you cannot be free of all the troubles that crushes you within it, and so you go out into a spacious and wonderful world.

Who Is To Blame For The Sin Of Adam?

Dr. Michael LaitmanThe discovery of evil is called the sin of Adam. But, this was in fact not a sin, for the Creator Himself says that He created the evil inclination. This means that Adam did not sin, rather he only discovered the sin, his evil, egoistic nature.

From the start we were created with a nature such as this so that we would have the opportunity to rise above it, and from this evil, become aware of the good, the Creator. It is impossible to discover this without that nature, “As the advantage of Light over Darkness,” (Kohelet Rabbah 2:13).

In the New Year (Rosh Hashanah) we celebrate the opportunity to rise up and attain the upper force, the Creator, to become Adam (Man), meaning the person who resembles Him. This is within the power of everyone, for Adam was simply the first who did it. As it is said, “for they shall all know Me, from the least of them unto the greatest of them” (Jeremiah 31:33), and “…for My house shall be called a house of prayer for all peoples.” (Isaiah 56:7). So Adam is an image that is relevant to all of humanity.

If during this holiday we make the right accounting of the past year, we clarify that we have still not attained correction and that we have not ascended with all of humanity to the peak of our existence, the spiritual world, the level of resembling the higher, eternal and perfect power. And for this we ask forgiveness, meaning we judge ourselves that we could have discovered our evil inclination and corrected it, rising above it and uniting between us, but we didn’t do it. So we ask in the beginning of the year that we be given the power that makes it possible to correct ourselves and reach the goal of creation.

Happy 5,776th Birthday!

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: According to religion, man was created 5,776 years ago, while according to science it happened more than 200,000 years before that. Who is right from a Kabbalistic perspective?

Answer: The wisdom of Kabbalah doesn’t take part in such debates. It studies nature and tells us about it. Nature is the same thing as the Creator, and the wisdom of Kabbalah explores the upper force of nature called the Creator. The word “Creator” in Hebrew “Boreh” means “come and see.” If we explore nature properly, we attain the Creator and see Him.

Thus Rosh HaShana (the Hebrew New Year) is the day of the revelation of the Creator, of the upper force. This is the day that mankind first attained the upper force, the spiritual world, an upper reality that we left to live here in this world only so that we will be able to break into it again. From this world, we will be able to attain the upper world.

Then we will know the answers to all the eternal questions: “What is the purpose of this life? What is its meaning? For what purpose do we exist on this earth and for what is all set? This isn’t a mere search for filling because we are unsatisfied with life, but a search for the goal for which we were created from above. Kabbalah teaches us how to turn to the Creator, raise Him, and reveal Him. Then the whole plan of creation is revealed to us, including what happened before we felt that we exist here in this world. It is because our world is only an intermediate station between what happened before we were born and the station of our future goal at which we arrive after we leave this world.

We either ascend to an upper dimension or lower to our level in this world. The wisdom of Kabbalah allows us to do both. All this is accessible to us thanks to the wisdom of Kabbalah that was revealed by first man who was the first human being to discover the Creator.

Humanity Does Not Become More Sensible Over Time

Dr. MIchael LaitmanIn the News (scitation.aip.or): “Mathematicians from Cornell University developed a model that shows which type of thinking, intuitive or rational, typified humanity in different phases of its evolution.

“According to the study, there were times in human history when people who had a slow and rational thinking style ruled, and there were times when rulers were typified by quick and intuitive thinking. According to this mathematical model, it seems that people are not becoming more rational with time, but that rational thinking actually develops cyclically and can be compared to the four phases of economic activity (recession, depression, upsurge, prosperity). The domination of rationality depends on the amount of resources accessible to humanity.”

My Comment: Everything develops according to the four phases of direct Light, according to the four letters of the Creator’s name, “HaVaYaH,” the general and individual schema of the whole creation, of the whole world and every part in it. The Upper Light has to go through the desire (phase zero), the four phases of its spreading (phase one) in order to prepare it and make it available to feel itself and to want to be like the Light itself (phase 2) ,and then to fulfill its desire (phases 3 and 4). Phases 1-4 develop under the influence of the Upper Light.
