The New Life Of The Internet

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: How do you see the future development of technology, the future of the Internet, which is a means of connecting people, if Kabbalah continues to expand further?

Answer: First of all, I think that we will experience an inner revolution in mankind rather than in technology. Nowadays, humanity is undergoing an internal crisis and total re-evaluation of values; consequently, the future generation will not be carried away by social networks and all the other toys clogging the Internet. Man, willingly and naturally, will distance himself from it, and according to a newly emerging desire, humanity will become occupied with more exalted and meaningful things, leaving the empty chatter behind.

After all, we are advancing and the Internet will gradually get filled with things closer to spirituality. Science, technology, and everything that man is surrounded by at home and at work will be aimed only at helping us evolve spiritually. The spiritual world has come very close to man! We feel that it affects us, that it is here, nearby, around us, and that it is in the same network of the Internet, and we just need to see it.

We are permeated by a field of spiritual waves, which determines our true existence, and the world that we currently see around us is merely a projection onto an imaginary screen. Thanks to modern technology, humanity will make a transition from today’s illusory perception of reality to spirituality. It is a type of a bridge; so, naturally, I am for the development of the Internet. You are to see how we will fill it with new content: We just need time.

Etiquette Is Not Development

Dr. Michael LaitmanFrom the materials on the principles of global education: “A more developed person feels that even a small evil inside of him is not bearable. The perception of this evil obliges a person to get rid of it, just like of everything else that is harmful. It follows from here that the person’s level of development is defined by his sensitivity to the oppositeness between him and the common law of nature: love and bestowal.”

We teach children to behave politely in society, to look good in the eyes of others. For example, it is natural for a child to get dirty while eating and while playing, but we explain to him that these are bad manners. In other words, we increase his egoism, so that other people’s disdain becomes an important factor for him. The same old savage still exists within the person, but, on the outside, everything is very proper.

The question is should we be improving our external inter-relationships? In doing so, our ego grows even more. We look proper and respectable. There are entire schools of good manners where they teach a person the rules of polite behavior. In our world, a well brought up person is called  “developed” but here we are not talking about the correction of egoism, but about looking better.

Of course, all of this is a lie that the science of Kabbalah does not take into account. Let a man live in the African jungle, and let him eat with his hands from a common bowl. This does not mean that he is less developed than a gentleman from London who flawlessly handles tableware.

Obviously, good manners should be exercised in human society, and we absolutely are not disregarding them. However, they do not relate to the internal correction of a person. Internal correction is built on the realization of evil.

This is a question of intentions. Here, a person does not need to look at the external, but to delve inside. How pleasant is he to others in his intention for the sake of bestowal? Does he relate well to others in his soul?

External presence, behind which stands the desire to use others, is of no help here. On the contrary, everything is defined by the internal approach, while the external can become its projection.

Furthermore, although it may be that regardless of all my love for my little son externally, I display strictness and I even punish him because I have no other choice. Otherwise, he will harm himself.

My love for him sometimes requires tough measures, and I need to increase this love in order for me to limit him externally or to upset him.

In relation to nature, the Creator, all of us are small children, and it relates to us exactly in the same way. Inside nature, the force of love and the unity of all parts rules. This force can even create a living body, all parts of which are in harmony with each other. They are not simply living, but they are developing, rising above the animate state on to the level of nature itself, to the human level.

It is love, instilled in the base of the force of nature, which is being revealed in the harmony of all of its parts.

Spain’s Unemployment Tops 5 Million

Dr. Michael LaitmanIn the News (from BBC News): “Spain’s unemployment figure passed the five million mark in the last quarter of 2011, official figures show. …

“The rate rose from 21.5% in the third quarter to 22.8% – the highest rate in nearly 17 years.

“Spain already has the highest jobless rate in the 17-nation eurozone and is expected to slide back into recession.

“The 22.8% rate is more than twice the average unemployment rate of the eurozone, which stood at 10.3% in November, according to data released earlier this month.

“The Spanish figures show almost half of all 16-24 year-olds in the country are jobless – 48.6% compared with 45.8% before. …”

Comment: It is necessary to turn the unemployed into students of integral education, rather than depleting the country with high taxes and provoking people to revolt.

Millennials Are Cooler With Socialism Than Capitalism

Dr. Michael LaitmanIn the News (from Good News): “…According to a new study conducted by the Pew Research Center, 49 percent of Obama’s biggest fans—Millennials age 18 to 29—view socialism in a favorable light, compared to 43 percent who view it unfavorably. (Eight percent had no opinion at all.) What’s more, they like the sound of “socialism” slightly better than capitalism—46 percent of people age 18-29 have positive views of capitalism, and 47 percent have negative views. This is dramatically different from the country’s population overall: 60 percent say they have a negative view of socialism, versus just 31 percent who say they have a positive view. Young people are the only age group whose support for socialism outweighs that of capitalism.

“It’s telling that the number of socialism-friendly young people is on the rise from just 20 months ago, when 43 percent of Millennials favored the word. Between now and then, Occupy Wall Street has swept the country and the headlines, and there are more unemployed teens and 20-somethings than ever. It’s not hard to figure out why our generation isn’t so gung-ho about capitalism—it has disappointed and, in some cases, straight-up failed us.

“Of course, this doesn’t mean Generation Y is necessarily plotting a socialist revolution. It may also signal that socialism doesn’t have the same connotation for us as it does for older people. We’re the first generation with a new bogeyman threatening our democracy and our way of life: terrorism. …”

Comment: The new generation is more willing to accept integral education, than the old. The new generation is not afraid to remove the barriers that separate people, seeing them as obstacles to a safer and more secure future.

Belgium Hit By General Strike

Dr. Michael LaitmanIn the News (from The New York Times): “Belgium was paralyzed by a national strike Monday [January 30th] as unions, angry over austerity measures, timed the protest to coincide with a one-day meeting of European Union leaders here in the capital.

“The rail network was shut down and flights were severely disrupted…Tram, bus and metro services in Brussels were suspended, transportation officials said. High-speed international trains, like the Eurostar from London and Thalys from Paris, were among those canceled.

“Belgian news media reported that most government buildings and many schools were closed and that postal services were not operating. Many stores were closed, and striking workers erected barriers to block access to industrial zones. …

“Belgium is one of many European nations struggling to control its budget, and unions are angry over plans to cut spending and raise taxes. “

Comment: Everything is possible to accomplish through simple discussion, gentle explanation, and public agreement at the round table, as one family, which people in general want—and come to the need for integral education in order to achieve equitable distribution.

Reflections Of Fidel Castro

Dr. Michael LaitmanIn the News (from Granma): The 85-year old Fidel Castro published a series of materials, “World Peace Hanging by a Thread,” in the leading Cuban newspaper Granma.

“…conflicting interests and the enormous profits gained by arms merchants led to the fabrication of even more cruel and destructive weapons, until modern technology provided the means and materials which, if employed, could lead to extinction.

“I hold the opinion, undoubtedly shared by all people with an elementary sense of responsibility, that no country, large or small, has the right to possess nuclear weapons….

“But the United States, the strongest and richest power, imposed the line to be followed on the rest of the world. Today it possesses hundreds of spy satellites and polices all inhabitants of the planet from space. Its naval, air and land forces are equipped with thousands of nuclear weapons and it governs, as it pleases, the world’s finances and investments through the International Monetary Fund….

“One even feels pity for those soldiers, separated from their families and friends, thousands of kilometers from their own homeland, sent to fight in countries which they maybe never even heard mentioned as students, where they are assigned the task of killing or dying in order to enrich transnational enterprises, weapons manufacturers and unscrupulous politicians who, every year, are squandering funds needed for the elimination and education of the countless millions of hungry and illiterate people in the world.”

Comment: How touching and true! But what did Fidel Castro do in his country during his many years of rule?

The correction of the world is not to change from one egoistic policy to another, but to eliminate the root of evil—human egoism—under the influence of an appropriate environment.

The Wonderful Metamorphosis Of A Notorious Egoist

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: I am very interested in the new, corrected relationships between people that you describe. As a father, I am especially impressed by your examples of children and the difficult situations in schools. I would really love to live in this world as you have outlined. But at the same time, I am engulfed with doubts because it is written “the human heart is evil from birth.” And you want a person to suddenly become good. How is it that this notorious egoist undergoes such a metamorphosis?

Answer: A person will enjoy using his ego in its opposite form. He will see examples around him and do the same. In order to bring a person to use his egoism in a good way, we need support from society, meaning the influence of good and evil, that is, reward and punishment. We need to establish support for children so that they respect or don’t respect their parents according to these qualities.

We play with human egoism in various forms by organizing the environment around a person. There are a few levels in this environment because a human being is comprised of four levels, thereby requiring these same levels to be built in circles around him. A person should be influenced by his children so that he feels that his children evaluate him by how much he gives to society. A child’s opinion is very important to parents.

The next circle is neighbors, the third one is co-workers, and the fourth one is the nation; they all evaluate him according to the same principle. Such an environment should be built around a person, but unlike a prison from which he wants to escape, it takes into account our egoism because this is our nature.

We have to understand how much we gain by learning not to suppress our egoism, but to use it correctly. For example, if I can use my big egoism to earn a fortune for my children, everyone is happy. The problem is not in egoism: It can be of great benefit to everyone. The only question is how I use it. If a society obliges me to use it for the benefit of all, then I do accordingly. And if I am not successful, then I strive to correct this. It all depends on the social framework; a person is a product of his environment. That’s why we need to act without any pressure and violence.

A Happy Balance: “We And The World”

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: You said that through advances in technology, people got more free time and that they could study science, culture, and philosophy as something not essential for life. Today, in our free time are we beginning to develop an “inner industry”?

Answer: First of all, everyone must go through educational courses: a long and pleasant study of a new world, the structure of man, his psychology, the relationships between people: parents and children, spouses, child-rearing, the structure of society, and the history of egoistic development. We need to examine global and integral systems with the example of the human body and the structure of the universe. A person should be a little more developed.

But all this is studied in a soft, gentle form, without any examinations, but through discussions, empathy, and communication within the group. This is not a class where you come in, learn, and go home as soon as possible. You are in this atmosphere because you need to know yourself and the world in which you live, just as we teach children. After all, what do we want from them? We want them to know the world in which they exist, and to learn to put to good use everything that surrounds them.

Adults should learn the same things now because they have not been taught that! “I and the world” is the essence of the study. They also should learn how this “I and the world” turns into “We and the world,” and then this “We and the world” turns into one big whole, into an integral system.

This is what we teach people because the general law of nature is balance. Inside this state of equilibrium, we feel most comfortable. Everything tends to equilibrium. That’s why it’s necessary to show people the laws existing at all levels in physics, chemistry, biology, and zoology, to see that this is true. And then it’s clear that human society is also obliged to be organized on the same principle.

This is not mysticism, but a serious science. We do so, not because some Lenin or Trotsky decided to implement such an idea, but because the nature of the global crisis compels us to do it. And we do so not because we are communists embodying the ideas of Marx, but because we have learned this from modern life, and we see that in fact, he was right.

Marx was right in what he said about the crisis. He did not really delve into how to realize this in practice. But in order to implement this, we address all the professionals that exist in our world. And whom can we trust if not scientists? We build everything on their recommendations.

Psychological Development

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: A psychotherapist’s work consists of continued evaluations of a person’s problems, at the end of which he begins to understand what is happening with him.

Answer: Your job is not to turn a person into a psychologist. Your objective is to give a person a specific correct advice, a prescription that he can use, and then everything will be good at this given stage. But he will possibly be back in a couple of months or years because he is always changing and problems and circumstances change. He will need you.

Basically, that is a very different approach. You are a professional and he comes for advice. Briefly speaking, you just give him medicine and that is it.

But our objective is to turn every person into his own specialist because he constantly needs to work with himself.

He constantly finds new unfamiliar inner areas inside of him, he reveals cavities, egoistic qualities, thoughts and desires. And as they all change they put him into specific new positions in relation to the environment. This is why a person needs to be constantly developing psychologically. He needs to be a master.

A Small Part Of An Enormous Mechanism

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: What needs to change in me for me to become a properly operating cogwheel in a common mechanism?

Answer: A cogwheel supports the movement of the entire, cohesive mechanism instead of becoming a small useless wheel in it. Right now we spin in it against our will, this is why our lives are full of suffering. And if we were to spin with understanding, with a song in our hearts: What would happen then?

The fact is that when man connects correctly to the entire mechanism, since he affects it, gives it his thoughts, feelings, and his effort, he actually begins to spin this mechanism himself. He becomes like the Creator of this mechanism. He rises to the level of the upper force of nature, its design and its plan. And then a completely different level of existence, understanding, perception of eternity and perfection, which permeates all of nature on its higher level, appears in man. This is where we are going.

We are heading towards a state we cannot imagine. We cannot imagine what has been prepared for us. But this is the next stage, far from modern practical psychology.

Question: How can I become this good and proper cogwheel?

Answer: You first need to go through a certain number of classes, assimilate them, preferably in a group where people correspond to you in their development, mentality, etc.

Then, you can begin practical work through discussions and debates under the guidance of the instructors.

Then you need to create your environment, which will influence you and you will influence it. And in this way you will gradually build this system.

We must understand that mankind has gone through all the stages of its previous development in a gradual manner over hundreds of thousands of years, and this stage we can literally pass in one generation. We see the way everything develops today, how quickly it develops, because egoism has grown qualitatively, and there is high frequency of changes on its highest levels.

We have begun our talks with the idea that we have certain knowledge provided through a collection of lectures, through which you should receive certain knowledge, and then skills. And this in turn is followed by practice and their realization in life.

We cannot simply “throw” a person into the world; after all, we spend twenty years preparing an infant for life. We at least need to spend half a year working with a person so he could begin to realize himself.
