Let’s Think About How We Can Help the World

Dr. Michael LaitmanWe talk a lot about the things we want to achieve, attain, and reveal. But we have merited this aspiration because the entire world needs it. How can we help the world?

Everything around us is filled with the upper Light that permeates us, but we don’t feel it yet because of our egoism; great abundance exists in the world. There is everything! Only our egoism does not allow us to share with others, expand it in a way that would make everyone happy. Thus in the end everyone suffers.

Let us think about what we can offer to the world, how we imagine a corrected society where everything already operates according to the laws of mutual bestowal, love, and participation, when everyone understands that they are connected into one common system, and it cannot be that some are happy and others are not.

This interconnection manifests between us to such extent that we automatically behave this way. We reveal that we are an integral system. We only think about reciprocity. A person who thinks about others no longer needs anything else. As Baal HaSulam writes, everyone thinks about everyone else. I am certain that my friends are thinking about me, and this is why I cannot even think about myself. And this forces me to think about others.

The Creator pushes us towards this kind of unity, this kind of society. We hope to come to this is in a good way—through dissemination, education, and upbringing instead of having suffering, blows, and different cataclysms and catastrophes push us towards it.

Let us use the simplest example, a small town with a population of 50 thousand people: Ten thousand are working at the largest enterprise in the city. Right now they only spend half a workday working; there is no work.

Ten thousand people are elderly and retired. Ten thousand are children. And another twenty thousand people are in the service field, they work in all the city’s systems.

The problem is that the big factory, where ten thousand workers, engineers, and other professionals work, is closing. And for this reason the main source of income in the city is being reduced twofold since the revenue brought to the city by the factory circulates in all the fields of service.

This is a common problem, which today appears in many places in the world.

And now imagine, what we can offer to the population if we were to introduce our system of integral upbringing and education.

For example, we can begin with the employees of the plant since half of their workday is becoming free. How can we come to the other people in the city: the homemakers, children, the elderly, and those who are employed in municipal services since their workload, together with their salaries, are also naturally being diminished?

What kind of changes would happen in the city if we were to gradually introduce new social relations between people, spouses, within families, the household, on the street, the parks, in service, cleaning, delivery, in all the city and municipal jobs?

How can people who create integral relations save and cut their spending in a way that they are not able to feel it? Can this be done?

How can the double drop in the main city revenue be compensated in a way that a person practically does not feel it when he offsets it with new social relations, relationships between people?

Imagine how a town like this needs to live.

We must bring all of this in order, we must discuss and gradually incorporate all these problems into a system, and solve them because this really is a problem. And today it is already arising in many places.

If we are able to express this in a realistic way and imagine it together with scientists, sociologists, and political scientists with calculations and numbers, this will bring us closer to realizing these ideas.

But naturally, in general, nothing can be solved without integral upbringing. And this is the main thing.

Moreover, we must not forget that no problem can be solved without the influence of the Surrounding Light. We must still take into consideration that no matter what our undertakings are like, no matter what kind of wonderful ideas that great people and great minds propose – nothing will work without us hoping, knowing, and working in a way that will attract the Light, and then it will do it.

Understanding The Integral Method

We Are Necessary To The World

Dr. Michael LaitmanNowadays, the group cannot be closed within itself; it cannot avoid bringing the method to the masses. It would no longer be a group and wouldn’t be the wisdom of Kabbalah.

Isolation cannot be considered; otherwise, we simply won’t survive. On the contrary, each day, the world is demanding more and more from us.

It is now beginning to understand on what its good future depends, how to be rescued from the crisis or to sweeten it a little bit. So far, there are searches, but already it is becoming clear that a new direction must be taken to advance man, and it is not science or technology.

The main thing is people’s inner world and the mutual connection between them. As humanity understands this, it discovers its helplessness.

Likewise with us, we are investing great effort on the spiritual path, and we don’t see results. In the meantime, we have no other choice. We must change ourselves.

External experts also understand this, but here the question appears, “How can we do it?” Even we accept with great difficulty the thought that the Light that Reforms is the only means.

Sometimes, it is only after ten years that a person understands that it is specifically this Light that we must place first. It turns out that my efforts need to be directed toward this in order to awaken the Light, and it will execute the task.

Indeed, the world today is in a similar state where many are searching. They are searching for ways in which it is possible to change a person. In the end, they will see that it is only through integral education that we, the Arvut movement (Mutual Guarantee), recommend.

The world will discover this. They have no other choice. Then, the world will really need us. In the meantime, we need to disseminate this knowledge and system to people as much possible so that it will be easier for them to accelerate time.

A Message With A Hidden Meaning

Dr. Michael LaitmanRabash, Shlavei HaSulam (Steps of the Ladder), 1986, “Come unto Pharaoh – 2”: Also, we were given the Mitzva [commandment/good deed] of “love thy friend as thyself,” and Rabbi Akiva said, “This is the great rule of the Torah” (Beresheet Rabba, Parasha 24). In other words, by working in love of friends, a person accustoms himself to exit self-love and achieve love of others.

At first it is hard for a person to agree with the idea of working in a group. It is hard for him to tie it to his spiritual advancement and the understanding of the Creator, which is the general force operating in reality, in the whole universe, the stars, the galaxies, and other phenomena studied by scientists like physics, chemistry, geology, astronomy, etc. There are immense forces operating in our reality. What does that have to do with good mutual relations with other people? Why do I have to live with them in agreement and in love?

It takes a long time to accept this. We agree and accept this burden just like “Upper grace.” Until then, by reading about love, we wait impatiently for someone to explain to us how to reach the hidden forces so that we will be able to understand what is going on and will be able to attain greatness.

A person is attracted to control, but here he is told otherwise: “You should be good and love others, and serve them, they are great and you are small…”; It doesn’t fit his self-image at all. A person wants greatness, control, attainment, passion, and respect; he feels envy; he develops his selfhood and his independence. But the “good ego” pushes him forward in order to arrange his life in the best possible way. “Let me understand how this is done. Show me something,” in response he hears: “Annul your mind, abandon all your expectations and aspirations, and start working in the group.”

We are not prepared for this; we have no clue about it and no need for it. Today when we speak about the love of others and the friends, we probably don’t understand it or we accept the words of the Kabbalists out of a habit. But in fact, it is a great process, which every person in the world should go through one way or the other, before he hears about the message of love, unity, and bestowal. Many are attracted more easily to that, being much more egoistic than we are.

We, on the other hand, do not emphasize enough what belongs to perception, habit, and adaptability. People gradually get used to the thought of bestowal, love, and connection since they don’t see an egoistic benefit in it any more, but a tool that leads to something much more sublime. In the past a person heard explanations about love and at the same time went on with his daily dealings, and one didn’t interfere with the other. But now it isn’t only about a person’s moral improvement, but also about the correction of the world.

We still don’t understand that our “slogans” are quite easy to digest, but they are actually aimed at the economists, the businessmen, the politicians, etc. because the bottom line of what we are saying is: “You are behaving badly, you are destroying the world, while its correction should be of a different nature. You don’t understand what needs to be done. In the meantime everything has to be turned 180 degrees, and we should look at the world through connection and love. Then you will see the correct system and understand how to run the world in goodness and by the dominion of love.”

This is a delicate moment, which is about to clash in the future. On the whole there is a Gog and Magog war going on here. We are talking about an approach to managing life without settling for the modern education system to which everyone agrees. But when it comes to something bigger, like high officials who are in charge of important funds, who are in control, they feel that we are bringing them a totally different system.

These aren’t just some comforting changes that we offer the people and which answer their needs, it is a condemnation of the way they operate.

So we should be gentle, soften our message, and be very careful so that our message will not seem threatening. We speak about love and this satisfies everyone, but they are not aware that they have to change themselves and their managing system yet.

A Holistic Approach

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: When we were little, our parents taught us to treat each other well. And today we need an environment, which will continue the same thought. But you also say that we need to treat nature as a whole well. What does this mean?

Answer: Shouldn’t we protect the still, vegetative, and animate nature? Shouldn’t we love it? Loving nature means that I don’t live in it to use it as much as I can. “Let us blow up a mountain, let us dessicate the sea; let us do whatever benefits us. …” No, we must have a balanced attitude towards everything.

Ecologists are being defeated, but we will succeed because we say: “Nature is in balance. So let us first experiment on ourselves is what this means. Let us feel between us what it is like to be in balance, to protect all of nature, and to take from it only what we need for existence.” Animals act in a similar way naturally.

This is part of integral education. It will of course help people to also have the right attitude towards the natural environment. It is impossible to only teach people to treat each other well; they also need to be taught to have a kind and proper attitude towards nature, to the actual notion of “nature.”

After all we are in the process of development, and someone drives and pushes us. Where does this come from? What kinds of forces are developing us? Where does my tomorrow lie? I might not be familiar with it, but there are people who reveal it and perceive it. We see before us a step-by-step, causal process; we see that nature evolves consistently and every detail in it depends on other details. Einstein had really wanted to learn the common, universal formula of nature; science is familiar with this tenet, science is aware of the reciprocal influences of all parts of nature on each other.

And we are not an exception. And therefore, as we learn to unite, this unity also includes nature as a whole, together with its all-encompassing law, which develops us and everything else. Human society is not the only thing to develop, vegetative, as well as animate nature also develop, only much slower. The entire universe is in the state of development. Where is it directed? We do not know, but the fact remains: The universe is expanding, experiencing different processes, and none of them are accidental, even though we cannot yet understand them. As we advance, we learn that a great law of nature is concealed here.

In the end, we see that all the laws are obviously woven together into one, even though the connection between biology, zoology, botany, mineralogy, man, stars, and other things escapes us. We are not able to see the nets that connect everything, but essentially everything is a single Nature, and it does not divide into separate segments. And this is why we must have a holistic, wholesome approach to it. In addition, we also are its inseparable part. Life itself dictates it to us: Study facts and not someone’s assumptions.

It is like two directions exist:

  • You can form a good attitude towards the human society and then justify the devastation of Earth for the sake of current welfare;
  • Or conversely, you can prioritize environmental protection and neglect people.

Instead, I say: “No, the approach must be wholesome, ‘round,’ one. A single attitude towards everything is required of us. After all, man is a part of nature, and thus he must have an equal attitude towards society, family, and nature as a whole. We must attain balance among all parts. Balance is what is inherent in nature, and thus we observe its universal law.”

It is also balanced by the mutual influence and movement of the planet, stars, and the galaxy. Also, any interference with the earth’s nature is reflected in its various parts. So we need to understand our place in the system and build a corresponding attitude.

Eyes On The Integrality

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: There are two basic directions in psychology: whole-group dynamics when everyone participates in the course of activities at the same time and the other where people are first split into pairs or small groups and later join all together again. Does integral education include both of these approaches?

Answer: Sure. The main thing is that people learn the materials and ultimately unite together, and that they come to a common conclusion or understanding that unification can be so multi-faceted.

Question: So, in the end, through every action we should come to a common unity, a common idea?

Answer: Yes. But it can be formulated by different people in different ways since each one has individual sensations. They cannot give identical, cookie-cutter responses by repeating the same phrases over and over. One person feels one way, another person feels differently, but basically, the same model forms within them, it is only expressed in different styles externally.

Comment: When a person starts engaging in some action, he first needs to warm up a little bit, and in the end, it’s important to conclude the process and not just break it off. Yet you once said that we need to make people accustomed to being able to instantaneously “switch on” integrality in any situation.

Answer: But not in the beginning of his or her education. Everything comes with experience. But this is necessary because we need to reach a state where any moment in time could be new for us, and we will always look at the world through integral glasses. This is necessary.

A Day In A Healthy Integral Family

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: Could you describe a day of a healthy integral family?

Answer: The alarm clock rings; everyone gets up. The children are going to school as usual. Mother stays home, or together with dad goes to study, to work.

People are working part time jobs in fields that are necessary, although it is not important where they work; it does not matter to them. Each one works as much as he can in a place where society decides it is the most useful and needed for society so as to supply food, clothing, a standard apartment, heating, health, retirement, vacation, medical help, and so on.

The husband and wife are working as needed, but regardless of whether they are working or not, they must study 5-6 hours a day in the group. This is considered as work that completes the job they have. People are studying the method of integral upbringing and education and the system that we all exist in: the worldwide, universal system of the upper mind, force. By learning, they are trying to discover it more and more and realize it through the connection between them.

This is the day and the life of people because they know that through this, they achieve a better mutual connection between them, and in it, they discover an eternal and perfect existence and an enormous, unlimited fulfillment that for them substitutes for absolutely everything.

This world they will feel as a means, as a place of work, until they reach the complete attainment of the system of nature. By this, they will achieve the whole system and they will fit in it by becoming equal with it, equal to the Creator, which is called adhesion with the Creator. They will reach a state where the feeling of this world will disappear, and instead of their biological bodies, they will feel spiritual bodies, meaning the forces that painted this world and themselves on the uncorrected ego.

Essentially, people will do only this. But as long as they are still in the egoistical desires, they will feel their bodies and will need to take care of them. However, it will be clear to them that this is the picture they have to “nourish”now with egoistical fulfillment such as food and other necessities of the body.

According To The Laws Of The Bubble

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: Don’t we tend to put greater emphasis on actions than on intentions during the day?

Answer: All our work is based on intentions. Can we bring about real changes in the world only through actions? By disseminating our message we want to change people’s intention. We have to approach them in different ways so that they will absorb it and be inspired, and then their attitude will begin to change.

If there were a wave on which we could convey to them by mind power the knowledge about the integral world, we would do that. But on the other hand, a method that resembles hypnosis or an injection wouldn’t be effective here. People have to understand, to perceive, and to internally analyze what we bring them.

It is impossible to simply “inject” another perspective of the world into a person. He needs to consciously acquire this knowledge, without lies, confusion, or fraud. We have to create the right conditions for him, thanks to which he will reach the desired result by himself and will share our point of view. So even if there were a wave for conveying information mentally, it would only lower a person to the “inanimate” level, while we, on the contrary, have to assist his development. This is the whole problem.

So we should offer a person “food for thought” with which he will agree or argue internally until the right tools will be created in him, the “tools” that enable him to understand the situation. Today by “flowing with the stream of life” a person cannot understand and assess this flow by looking at it from the outside. He doesn’t penetrate the depth of nature in order to understand its laws; he doesn’t know himself and his environment.

We are not talking about the artificial environment people have created for themselves. In that area they are “experts,”  and many feel like a big fish in the sea. But the natural systems that move a person, society, and nature are unknown to them. We have to make that accessible for them so that they will begin to feel the essence of things, so that they will get to know the basic laws of the external nature and the essence of humanity. This is the Creator, even though it is still in an adapted corporeal form.

In the meantime, people have no idea about that. They are living their ordinary lives in an artificial net that they have woven for themselves. This is what the global processes of modernization and urbanization have brought us to. The whole world is living according to these laws today, and so we are facing very hard work: We have to spur the need for ascending in people, to lead them to the level of clarification and of a new feeling, and to guide them to the root so that under the guidance of the artificial mechanisms of civilization, they will see our natural mutual connection that penetrates all levels of nature.

By bringing a person to this thought, we bring him inside, into a totally different system about which he doesn’t know and which he hasn’t taken into account at all. He encounters a problem: He detaches himself from the artificial net and has to solve basic questions by himself: “Who am I and what am I? What is the environment, what is nature?” Here another environment is revealed to him, the system of the upper nature.

This is the reason scientists today are much closer to our message. Soon we will be so close to them that we will actually begin to speak in the same language. On the other hand, in the meantime we cannot have a real conversation with businessmen, industrialists, merchants, politicians, etc.; in their environment the laws of the market exist.

We are really facing a difficult dissemination problem. We have to understand the way a person feels the world, the picture he sees before him, the social services that he uses, his interests, etc. He is living in an artificial blown-up “bubble” and he doesn’t understand what we are talking about.

We, on the other hand, speak about the fact that man is part of nature in which there are clear and definite laws. They resent this idea, “What laws are you talking about, all the laws are written in the constitution.” And so all the problems are “solved” by legislation and adding a few more items to certain laws. This is how the artificial system by which people are hoping to change something grows.

Eventually we have reached a global crisis: Two systems, an artificial one and a natural one, are now one opposite the other. The problem is that the artificial system is beginning to break down as a whole, whereas we want to bring people to the natural system, and this is a big problem. We too are gradually going through this process, so what can we say about humanity?

So don’t hope that intentions will be enough. First, we have to enter the bubble and establish a connection with a person. We descend to his level, to his state, become part of him, and from there we begin to gradually explain that we all depend on the second natural system, on balance and on the right mutual relations with it. In addition, we have to act gently; otherwise, people will not accept our message because they only feel their bubble.

Is Work The Center Of Life?

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: If half of the human population will not be working, then won’t an opposition emerge between those who work and must give to those who do not do anything other than study all the time?

Answer: First of all, one needs to look at those who work and those who study as everyone who participates in the same pursuit. There will not be such a concept as “working or not working.” According to our research and statistical data, 1-2% of the Earth’s population can produce all of the necessary food products and an additional 6-7% of the people can produce everything else that man needs. Everything that is necessary; do you understand? Let’s say, it’s 10% of the entire human population, and what about the rest of the people? What should be done with them? Destroy them?

We need to understand that a person shouldn’t be working in the way that he’s working today at all. Except for the past couple of centuries, never has a person been working from morning until night. Work has become the most important for him. And for comfort, kindergartens are being organized close to companies. Work in general has obtained the status of the center of life.

But why should it be this way? Why can’t a person come to work for only two hours a day, and study for the rest of the time? At that, he is working on self-education, integral development. He joins this process and each time, every day, to the extent of his changing, he must bring himself to a greater balance with nature. And this is a constant renewal. We will be obligated to do this. Nobody needs to give up anything; everyone is equal in this.

Today, when you communicate with a person, first of all you find out: who are you, where are you, what is your occupation, how much do you earn? This is all that interests us. But now we are coming to a different society. Neither the earth, nor the natural resources, or the environment (as much as we have already polluted it) will allow us to behave this way any further. We already see this.

In no way are we convincing anyone, like the rest of the scientists, that we need to act this way and not another; we simply offer a possible solution. We will be happy to hear other proposals. We are also constantly searching, supplementing this methodology with newer and newer data. In general, this work is part of the research. If you were to ask me 10 years ago, then you would have heard only a small part of what I am saying today. Besides, we have discovered a lot from our colleagues around the world with whom we are cooperating closely.

The Cure For The World Is In Integral Education

Dr. Michael LaitmanThe number of people in the world who suffer from depression is increasing. Rejection, not understanding the meaning of our existence, drug use, and terrorism, are all indicators of our disappointment in life.

We have come to the point where we must bring the world to a rational, balanced state. Now, since now many people find themselves unemployed and have nothing to do, it is a very dangerous social factor and governments are afraid of that. So what can be done?

It is impossible to destroy millions and even billions of the supposedly superfluous in the world simply by wars. It would be a war after which nothing would remain. There is no reasonable solution, even if we approach the problem according to Malthus: “Let’s just purify humanity of all the redundant elements and cut it in half”—this will not work!

We see how the collapse of one tenth of a nuclear power plant in Japan had terrible effects throughout the world, most of which we still don’t know about, like in Chernobyl, because the information remains classified.

But even these small “problems” are enough to stop the construction of nuclear power plants around the world. The decision makers understand the threat and so they stop building them. But by this single action, we can see that there is no problem and no solution. The problem is somewhere else all together: How can we bring billions of people to a balanced state?

So we should see the release of so many people from their work as the transition of man to another kind of work, to productive social work, so that we can really make human society more beneficial for everyone.

This can be implemented only through the integral education of everyone. Thus we raise a person to the level of integral understanding, of the global management of nature, and then he treats himself, the world, and everything else differently.

First he understands that the problem isn’t just about rich people and poor people, about good or bad leaders, or about billionaires who take everything for themselves, but he understands that there is a clear trend here, and this is how nature develops us. This means that we should take on a form that is adapted to nature because we cannot do anything against it. The only thing we can do is to understand the laws of nature. If we are adapted to the laws of nature we will bring ourselves to the most comfortable state.

Understanding The Integral Method

Dr. Michael LaitmanBy understanding that we are in an integrated, closed, giant sphere that constantly develops us; we simply need to study its laws and try our best to act accordingly. Then we will naturally feel better.

Now we are preparing a presentation for the UN about the program of education for adults.

We are developing an education program for the unemployed for the Spanish government. The rate of unemployment among people below the age of 40 in Spain has risen to 60%. This is a very serious problem for the country because these people are gradually losing all hope and they cannot build a family. They are in a terrible situation: People who graduated from European universities now find nothing to do. The most important thing is to make them part of the normal development of growing and improving.

We believe that instead of unemployment benefits, these people should receive scholarships. By studying, a person becomes a useful member of society because he or she gives society an integral part that balances the nation and society with nature.

Consequently great forces are released: kindness and goodwill instead of hatred, a careful attitude towards the society one lives in instead of protest movements, etc. All the sharp edges and all the problems gradually disappear. Now we are preparing this program.

We are facing grave problems because we are still egoists. Although we understand that we can transcend to a global and integral society and we see that it is necessary, we are still very far from it.

Therefore, the integral education is designed to gradually and softly prepare us for that, not by blows and suffering as a result of the crisis, but by recognition; to soften us by understanding, by getting closer, rationally helping us through to the next phase. This is the mission of our institute.

There are other people in the world who are working in the same direction. In the meantime they are very few, but we are in touch with them.

By the way, when the integral system is gradually accepted something interesting happens: Many resources are released. People begin to treat what we have correctly, and suddenly there is a balance: everything is enough for everyone and everyone is happy. This is what a person actually needs. Therefore, we should see how nature is pushing us towards this state.
