My new article on Linkedin “The International Holocaust Remembrance Day Does Not Serve Its Purpose”

The International Holocaust Remembrance Day, which occurs on January 27, is always a good opportunity for predictions and summaries regarding trends of antisemitism in the world, and this year is no exception. This year’s report, published by the Israeli Ministry of Diaspora Affairs, stresses the encouraging fact that no deadly attacks were perpetrated against Jews outside of Israel, though it was mostly because the attacks were thwarted before they were carried out, or were carried out but ended with injuries, some very serious, rather than fatalities. At the same time, the report stresses that Jewish life in Europe is being hampered by bans on kosher slaughtering and other Jewish customs. In essence, European countries are telling the Jews that they are unwanted there. In the US, the Jewish community is growing accustomed to an atmosphere that resembles that of Europe, and nine out of ten Jews are troubled by the growing antisemitism there. But perhaps most notably, online antisemitism has become ubiquitous, and conspiracy theories against Jews spread like brushfire whenever negative developments occur, and 2020 had plenty of those.

It is a very detailed report, covering more than 140 pages. But all those details cannot hide the fact that it is meaningless. It solves nothing, changes nothing, and serves nothing other than the people who wrote it. And since this report changes nothing, its writers can rest assured that next year, they’ll have a job compiling another such “alarming” report, which will be just as (in)effective.

For the past two millennia, since the ruin of the Second Temple, we have been blaming the world for our woes while we ourselves have done nothing to solve them. Instead, we count the times we were tortured, expelled, and exterminated. But for the past two millennia, documenting the nations’ cruelty toward us has done nothing to abate it.

Our forefathers were not like that. They did not blame the ruin of the First Temple on Nebuchadnezzar King of Babylon, although he was the conqueror who destroyed it. Likewise, our forefathers did not blame the ruin of the Second Temple on Titus, the commander in chief of the Roman legion in Jerusalem. Instead, they blamed both devastations—the second of which was in many ways as horrific as the Holocaust—on themselves, and their own misconduct toward each other.

Even though our forefathers knew that Titus breached the walls of Jerusalem and exiled the people, they wrote that the Temple was ruined because of unfounded hatred, because we hated each other for no reason. Even some years afterwards, the great Rabbi Akiva, whose disciples wrote the Mishnah and The Book of Zohar, taught that “Love your neighbor as yourself” is the gist of the Torah. Nevertheless, since that time onward, we have been cultivating a narrative of victimhood, that it’s not our fault that we are tormented, expelled, and murdered. Why is the narrative different? Did Nebuchadnezzar and Titus not expel and murder us? They most certainly did, so why did our forefathers place the blame with us and not with them?

The fundamental difference between Jews today and Jews back then is that our forefathers, both leaders and regular folk, knew why they belonged to the Jewish people. They knew that being Jewish does not mean superficial observance of customs, but rather an oath, a commitment to be a role model nation. They knew that being Jewish means striving to love your neighbor as yourself, forging mutual responsibility within the nation, and setting an example of unity above divisions for the world to see. Back then, we had countless disputes, as we do today. But back then, we knew we had to keep our nation’s unity above the rifts, whereas today, we vilify each other for not admitting that we are right, and hunker down in our opinions.

Our forefathers knew that we had to project unity, and that if we did not, foreign rulers would come and punish us. We, on the other hand, do not give a second thought to unity, and when foreign rulers come and punish us, we blame each other for it, not realizing that by doing so, we only strengthen and embolden our oppressors.

Nothing has changed since the inception of our nation. We are still beaten when we beat each other, and succeed when we unite. Until we learn this lesson, organizations and offices will continue to publish pointless reports that no one cares about besides the people who make a living writing them. These reports will not prevent the next cataclysm, but our unity will. The choice, as always, is in our hands.

My new article on Linkedin “The Flight of the Honeybee”

We may be oblivious, and we certainly are indifferent, but honeybees are disappearing at an alarming rate; their population is shrinking all over the world, and no one knows for certain why this is happening or how to stop it. This may not seem like a big deal or something that should concern us, since there are countless species whose populations are shrinking, and some of which are on the verge of extinction, so what is special about the bees? Bees may not have such good PR agents as the polar bear, for example, but their importance to humankind is far greater than probably any species on the planet. Bees, through their function as key pollinators, are responsible for the production of more than a third of the world’s food. Without bees there will be no pollination of numerous plants that feed humans and livestock. In other words, without bees there will be hunger on a scale we’ve never known.

We may not know why bees are disappearing, but we shouldn’t be surprised that this is happening. On every level of nature, we are tearing the threads that connect the ecosystem that is our planet. We are depleting natural resources, cutting off forests the size of entire countries every year, polluting the air and the water, and destroying the habitat of almost every creature on the planet. How can we expect that in such a state, one of the most vital links in Earth’s life cycles will not be broken? Each day, we are tearing more threads, and at the same time becoming more frightened by nature’s collapse. It seems as though there is no way to end our obtuseness, except, perhaps, when we are faced with empty store shelves, when we have money to buy food, but there is no food to buy. Maybe then we will wake up, but it will be too late for many of us.

If we want to rebuild the bee population and guarantee our own survival, we have to solve the cause of our mistreatment of nature, which is, surprisingly, our connections with each other, our human, social ties. We must establish a network with positive connections, so as to learn how to work with all of nature. That is, the correction must begin at home, with the closest people to us, and grow from there to the rest of the world. If we learn how to positively integrate ourselves into our society, we will also know how to positively integrate ourselves into the whole of nature.

In other words, the problem isn’t with our actions or with our minds. It is not that there is some fundamental knowledge that we don’t know. The problem is with our hearts, or more correctly, with the connections between our hearts. Our self-centered disposition breaks the ties between us, and as a result, between us and nature. When we do not feel nature, we feel no remorse abusing it, and no misgivings about demanding it to serve us while we do so.

Self-absorption and exploitation are therefore the biggest pollutants we are creating, and not CO2 emissions or anything of the kind. If we clean ourselves up from self-absorption and exploitation, nature will clean itself up from the rest of the pollutants we have created. These two narcissistic traits, which none possess but humans, are ours to correct. No one can do this for us, and no one will be able to perform any correction until we correct our egoistic nature. But the moment we correct it, all other corrections will be a breeze.

Bees feel each other and support each other. Likewise, we will have to learn the art of feeling one another. However, what the bees do instinctively, we will have to carry out consciously, and our reward will be that we will understand creation not on the instinctive level, but on the conscious level.

In fact, the whole purpose of our overblown egos is to compel us to exert to feel each other the way bees and other animals do. This will not only teach us the intricate network that we are currently destroying through our foul disposition, but it will also teach us how the “mind” that designed the network works. There is no other way to learn these secrets of creation besides building the connections through our own efforts by learning one step at a time which part goes where. In doing so, we will also understand why certain parts were put together, what they do individually, and how they function in the system. But in order to learn all that, the world had to be broken to the point where by correcting it, we would learn how it was built.

Now we’ve come to it. The world is broken to the core. Now is the time to start correcting through connecting, to focus not on the parts, but on how they work together. This is our way to mend society, revive nature, and heal the planet, including our much needed honeybee population.

My new article on Linkedin “The Strongest Force of All”

In relationships, at work, in society, in the country, in the world, in relationships of all kinds and at any level, one can see power, exploitation, and control. Where does this come from and how can we better cope with these destructive impulses?

The material from which we are made is a desire to enjoy. This is why we constantly set norms that define an excessive activation of our desire to receive at the expense of others as forceful and invalid. Unlike animals that act by instinct, nature gave human beings the freedom of choice to determine how they treat others within society.

The education we receive, the environment that surrounds us, our individual attributes, and the circumstances in which we live form a comprehensive account that determines when we exercise power toward others, in what form, and how much we allow our egoism to act to control others in order to achieve our goals.

There are struggles in nature also, but only in humans is there egoism, an evil instinct. No animal wants to harm another animal or enjoys controlling and abusing another. Humans, on the other hand, have no boundaries, no limits. As egoism develops, we want to swallow up the whole world and to subdue everyone under us. It is not enough for us to have everything we want at our disposal; we differ from animals in our desire for control.

If we could recognize the material we are made of, we would discover that we never see the person in front of us as such, but only as an object for our dominance who could be used for our benefit. There is always a subconscious communication between us about how much I can overpower you and vice versa and how much can I enjoy what I get from you. Our lives revolve around such measurements and calculations with each and every one in every way possible.

But eventually, we will discover that no matter how hard we try to bend each other, we do not achieve lasting satisfaction. Perhaps we seemingly gain something for a moment as a result of exploiting someone to our advantage, but in such circumstances we are never relaxed, nor do we experience the potential good life nature has given us to realize.

Our era marks a unique and highly significant transition point, we bear witness to our egoistic development reaching a dead end, we feel increasing difficulty to be fulfilled from selfish pursuits, which gives rise to a plethora of negative attitudes in society. People are taking their dissatisfaction out on each other more and more, which leads to increasing polarization and hatred throughout society.

Today’s unsettling state thus points the way to the need for us to draw an opposite, balancing, positive force in order for us to create good relations between each other and with nature. It is the force of love, the strongest of all. If we open up the ability to live under the premise of “love your neighbor as yourself,” we will create a pleasant and encouraging atmosphere that will free us from the need of taking advantage of others.

The best example of the immense potential of love is in our relationship with our children. Nature has given us love for them so we constantly make sure that everything is good for them, that they are happy. No one pressures us to do so, we feel a tendency from within, and this is also what makes us the happiest in life.

We are advancing toward a more connected world where we will discover from day to day how much we all depend on each other. The only relationships that will allow us to live a secure life involve complementary connection between people from all different backgrounds and characteristics, even opposites, to a level of mutual love. And as we each struggle with our own egoism, which pushes us in opposite directions, we will begin to feel how indispensable it is to support and cherish each other to enjoy life in the full sense of the word.

My new article on Linkedin “No Heroes When It Comes to Covid”

Can you still remember how you felt this time last year? Do you remember your hopes, your dreams, and your visions of the newly born decade? What’s left of those dreams one year later? If you took your wildest guess about 2020, would it be anything like the reality that unfolded? Covid-19 has taught us a great lesson: We don’t know anything, and we don’t control anything. In fact, we don’t even know what we don’t know, and we certainly can’t control something that we don’t know exists!

But if we don’t know anything, how can we make any plans? What’s the value of our high-tech medicine if a month after we rolled out the vaccines with much fanfare, three new strains of Covid appeared, for which we are not sure that the vaccines are even effective, and which are far more contagious and possibly more violent than the original strain? In the first few days in office, the new administration, which disparaged the previous one over its handling of the pandemic, has already released two defeatist declarations: The first one stated that Covid will “get worse before it gets better,” and the second, even more disheartening, stated that “There’s nothing we can do to change the trajectory of the pandemic in the next several months.” Put simply, the previous administration tried and failed, and the current administration failed before it even tried. Clearly, when it comes to Covid, there are no heroes.

This brings up interesting questions: What will happen if we surrender? What does it mean to surrender to the virus? Does it mean that we will all die or perhaps something else? Is there a way to hamper the spread of Covid-19 besides vaccines?

There are simple answers to this: We can impede the spread of the virus by following the requirements we all know are helpful: social distancing, wearing masks, and washing hands. But will that defeat the virus? Will it make it go away? At best, these measures will slow down its spread, but they will not obliterate it.

It may sound counterintuitive but to eliminate the virus, we must stop fighting it. The virus is like a grownup seeing a child about to bump his head against a low hanging branch that the child doesn’t see because he’s searching for treasures on the ground. The grownup has no choice but to push the child’s head down before he hits the branch and hurts himself. The child, who doesn’t see the branch, looks up in anger at the “aggressive” grownup and tries to keep walking upright, so the grownup is forced to push the child’s head down even more forcefully, since his push, however unpleasant, is far less painful than bumping his head into a heavy branch. The grownup tries to show the child that there’s another way that he can go, where he will find all the treasures he is looking for, and there is nothing where he insists on going. Still, the child is obstinate and insists on going the wrong way. What should the grownup do? Should he let the child keep risking himself or insist until the child understands?

The answer is clear, but not that simple to do. For the child to understand, he must stop fighting the grownup. Only then will he see the branch and look to where the grownup is pointing. But until the child gives up the fight, he will continue to push forward and the grownup will continue to stop him, a little more assertively each time.

Like that mulish child, we insist on pushing toward the normality we think is good for us: the life we had in the previous decade. However, it collapsed at the end of the decade. The appearance of Covid at its conclusion marked the demise of the old way of life, and returning to it will hurt us far more than if we bumped our heads against an allegorical low hanging branch.

The coronavirus stops us every time we try to walk back to where we came from: an outdated, obsolete world. Only if we surrender to the virus, follow the requirements to hamper its spread, we will find that along with impeding the contagion, we also learned new ways to treat each other and, inadvertently, transformed our inimical, unwelcoming society into a healthy one where it is a delight to live, where consideration, acceptance, and mutual responsibility are truly the dominant values. And once we have transformed ourselves, it will be effortless to do what it takes to completely block the spread of Covid-19, and the virus will become a chapter in our history.

My new article on Linkedin “Nothing Wise about Elon Musk’s Mars Colony Idea”

Billionaire Elon Musk, owner of electric car company Tesla and Space Exploration Technologies Corp SpaceX, has a grand vision for humanity. He calls it “Mars & Beyond: The road to making humanity multiplanetary.” Put simply, Musk wants to colonize Mars with humans. Regrettably for him, it’ll never work. There is nothing wrong with Planet Earth except for the people inhabiting it. So, if you carry into your new world the injurious element that is ruining your current world, what chances have you of building a sustainable colony on the new planet?

If you want to succeed in your new home, you must make sure that everything you carry with you is helpful and beneficial. This means that the people who go there will have to be freed of the flaws that make humanity noxious to Planet Earth. But, if you can cure people from their harmful traits so they become beneficial to the environment rather than detrimental to it, what’s the point of taking them to a new planet? The whole idea of moving to Mars was because we ruined earth, but if you can fix the ruinous element in man, we will stop ruining Earth, the planet will heal, and there will be no need to move.

Moreover, Earth is our home. We are made of it; it engendered us; and our bodies contain and need every element that exists on earth, even the most toxic. These elements don’t exist on Mars; survival will be a formidable challenge. In other words, not only are we taking with us the very cause of Earth’s problems—ourselves—we are creating countless new problems by placing ourselves in an environment that was not made to create and nurture humans.

When astronauts return from missions on the International Space Station after a few months in space, their bodies need several more months under medical supervision to readjust to the conditions on Earth. The effects on the bodies of people who will travel to Mars for months, then live on it for years, if not for the rest of their lives, are anyone’s guess, but they will not be good.

However you look at it, besides questionable prestige to the entrepreneur, there seems to be no sense at all in the project of colonizing Mars. If Musk wants to create an idyllic society in a secluded place, it would be much cheaper, easier, quicker to implement, and far less risky to simply buy a small, secluded island and populate it with the participants in his experiment. If they succeed, he will have all the prestige of the savior of humanity, who discovered the secret of turning human nature from evil and abusive to kind and inclusive. If he fails, people will simply go back home and all will be well. At the very least, Musk will be respected for trying.

And finally, Musk recently announced that he would pay $100 million for the best carbon capture technology. The isolated island experiment would cost him much less, and give him much more than carbon-free air. If it succeeds, it will give him an ego free society, a pristine Planet Earth, and a happy and peaceful humanity. If you ask me, it’s a steal!

My new article on Linkedin “Being an “Objective” Jew in the Biden Administration”

While many Jewish media outlets hail the proliferation of Jews in the Biden administration, I don’t see this as something to be proud of. For American Jewry, it is no reason for optimism, and from Israel’s perspective, this is not good news.

American Jewry has worked very hard to get to where it is. Currently, it holds key positions not only in the new administration. It has been holding key positions in both Democratic and Republican administrations for many years now, though not as conspicuously as in this one. American Jewry holds key positions not only in politics, but also in business, high tech, traditional media and social media, including of course the big tech companies currently under fire by Republicans for their purportedly biased treatment of Donald Trump and his supporters. American Jews are prominent in culture, entertainment, science, academia, finance, and in the justice system. Indeed, they are at their zenith.

And as always with the Jews, after the zenith comes the nadir. Antisemitism has been rising all over the world at least since the turn of the century, and the US is not trailing behind the rest of the nations. The heydays of Jews were the 80s of the 90s of the previous century, but those days are gone and they will not return. From here on, it’ll be a long and painful downward slide.

As for the State of Israel, the presence of so many Jews promises nothing. If anything, it portends troubles. When a Jew is at the helm, it usually spells trouble for Israel. Even if a Jew is pro Israel, he or she will be hesitant to show it for fear of being accused of dual loyalty. Worse yet, Jews in key political positions tend to promote anti-Israel policies and decisions in order to prove their “objectivity” with regard to Israel.

Moreover, it is a sad truth that most American Jews are hostile toward the State of Israel. Over the years, the chasm between American Jewry, the State of Israel, and the Israelis, has deepened on many levels. Israelis and American Jews disagree on key issues such as Mid-East politics, religion, and even on the definition of Jewishness and Judaism. For this reason, placing a Jew in a key political position is most likely bad news for Israel. When there are more than a dozen Jews in such positions, as is the case with the incoming administration, the bad news is dozen-fold.

My new article on Linkedin “The Nature of Inaugurations and Unity Speeches”

Joe Biden’s inauguration speech was all about unity. He said that his whole soul is in “Bringing America together, uniting our people, and uniting our nation.” The viewers on YouTube were not convinced. An hour later, Biden signed a slew of executive orders that totally reversed Trump’s policies.

Four years ago, Donald Trump’s inauguration speech also called for unity. But as soon as he took office, he started “Draining the swamp,” as he called it. Basically, he did everything he could to undo Obama’s goals and efforts.

You can have an opinion about which policy is better for America or better for the world, but if unity is not at the top of the list, you need to know that you are supporting the wrong policy. The era of dominant ideologies that dictate policies is over. We have become too intertwined the world over to be able to champion one side or one ideology and oppress others. We have become one body. If the left hand is busy tying up the right hand, then both hands can’t function and the whole body cannot work, eat, or do anything at all. But if it is to the contrary, and both hands are free and work together, then there is no limit to what that body can do.

Globalization means mutual dependence. However, it also means mutual support. The former happens naturally, as products and food are produced in multiple countries and production chains become multinational. The latter can only come through conscious and continuous efforts since our natural tendency is to support only ourselves, and it takes realization and acceptance of our interconnections to willingly support one another. Yet, today, only if we support one another can we have a decent life on Earth.

Think of your hands, again. If you need to scratch your head, one hand can do it while the other one does something else that benefits the rest of the body, such as holding a cup of coffee. If the hands quarrel over which of them will scratch and which of them will hold the coffee, we will remain itchy and thirsty indefinitely.

Currently, humanity, and the United States, have bigger problems than coffee and an itchy head. The lives of millions of people are on the line. Covid-19 is raging throughout the US and throughout the world; the global economy is in freefall and worldwide hunger is a real and imminent danger. Bickering over power seats is infantile at such times, yet this is exactly what our leaders are doing, all over the world.

A correct policy today must encompass the entire nation, exclude no one, and forge solidarity and a sense of brothers-in-arms camaraderie. Indeed, we are at war. We are fighting against the virus; we are fighting against hunger, and we are fighting against poverty. But most of all, we are mainly fighting against the hatred that’s exploding among us. This is our real enemy. If we could reverse hatred and realize the benefits that each individual can contribute to humanity, we would realize how senseless it is to hate anyone, how it compromises our own abilities as a society and as individuals, and how it jeopardizes our future.

Unity will not be built by politicians, but rather by regular people. Politics, by definition, aims to divide. If it aimed for unity, there would be no need for so many politicians since everyone would be united. By setting us off against each other, they divide us and make each of us support a different party. As a result, we give them power, and they give us more hatred of each so that we will give them even more power. This is why we should not expect politicians to reconcile the people. We must break this vicious cycle by ourselves, decide that hatred is unwanted here, and start exploring how we can work together to build a more united nation, and a more united world.

My article in Newsmax: “Israel’s Future Does Not Depend on America”

Israel had a unique period of concessions with the Trump administration. The direction and policies regarding the Middle East of the new U.S. administration remain to be seen. What we know for certain is that the destiny of the Israeli nation cannot be conditioned upon one leadership or another. Israel’s future depends solely on our unity.

The Trump legacy for Israel includes moving the U.S. embassy to Jerusalem and recognizing Israel’s sovereignty in the Golan Heights. Under his watch, America left the Iranian nuclear agreement and imposed sanctions against Tehran. In addition, the Abraham Accords were signed to normalize relations with the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Sudan and Morocco.

One may question whether America’s friendship is now uncertain, if most of the agreements will be reversed, and particularly if the Iran deal will be reestablished. But in fact, Israel depends solely on one thing for her security – the power of connection. Foremost Kabbalist Yehuda Ashlag wrote, “Social unity can be the source of every joy and success,” (The Freedom).

The only thing to cause arrest, delay or interference with Israel’s good connection is the separation and alienation between us. As our sages wrote, “We are commanded in each generation to strengthen the unity among us so that our enemies do not rule over us,” since “When there is love, unity and friendship between each other in Israel, no calamity can come upon them.”

Our sages also said that “All of Israel are responsible for one another,” (Sanhedrin 27b.) In other words, the level of connection among the people of Israel is outwardly reflected in the political, social, and security situations. Connection is the only thing that can redeem and protect the people from trouble and affliction.

For a long time now, the world has been one global village where we are all interconnected and interdependent. Subconsciously, the nations feel that we, the people of Israel, hold the key to happiness. However, the shirking of our historic role and the neglect of implementing the method of connection in our relationships invoke hatred upon us from the rest of the world.

Specifically only unity and unfounded love among us can lead us to congruence with nature’s system and only then will the peoples of the world recognize Israel’s merit. As it is written in The Book of Zohar, “With this composition, which is The Book of Zohar, they [Israel] will come out of exile with mercy.”

Now is the time “to rediscover the national love that was instilled within us since the time we were on our land as a nation among the nations” (Rav Yehuda Ashlag, The Nation). We must resolve that from this moment on, we will begin to treat each other as brothers – in thoughts, words and actions.

Let us begin to cultivate the principle of mutual guarantee between us de facto. As soon as we get this connection flowing, we will see how powerfully it impacts our everyday lives and how it can truly change conditions for the better. In this way, we will gradually become “as one man with one heart,” and our security and good future will be guaranteed. Then the Israeli nation will be truly independent and will become a beacon of hope for the entire world, which will fulfill our historic role and purpose.

My new article on Linkedin “The Biggest Worry about US-Israel Relations”

Today, Wednesday, January 20, 2021, Joe Biden and Kamala Harris will be inaugurated as President and Vice President of the United States. The US has been in decline for decades, but recently, it has accelerated to such a pace that it is threatening to bring about a complete collapse of the once mighty superpower. It is rarely acknowledged but Donald Trump did a lot of good for the American economy under the conditions he was in; I doubt that another president would have done better.

Be that as it may, Trump is going and Biden is coming, and the world is in for some very tough times, and especially Israel. How tough? Suffice to say that in my view, the question of continuing the reception of $3.8 billion in military aid from the US is not Israel’s biggest worry, and not because three quarters of it are spent on US made products. Israel’s biggest worry is that the incoming administration has no interest in the existence of the State of Israel whatsoever. This is our biggest worry, and with our wobbling government, I’m not sure how we will be able to handle it.

Yet, since there is no bane without a boon, the approaching plight might actually present a great opportunity for Israel. This is our chance to realize that we cannot rely on foreign aid indefinitely, that we must find within the strength to repel outside enemies—through our unity. In other words, I hope that since we have no choice, we will finally realize that only our union is a lasting pillar we can rely on, that this is our only weapon against aggressors. When you look at the world today, with all its “enlightened” nations, you will not find one country that does not hate us, including those who haven’t verbalized it, but soon will.

Moreover, if we were connected, we wouldn’t be facing the predicament we’re facing now. Instead, there would be more peace agreements such as we have seen recently, and no one would even want to interrupt or cripple them.

But now that the US is collapsing, Israel will dive down with it. Without America’s support, we will go down in a freefall right alongside America.

That said, if we had spiritual powers, the spirit of unity would fortify us and no harm would come to us. We would not need any foreign money or aid of any kind.

After we fall, the collapse is certain to awaken us, the price we will have to pay over many years is too high to express. I truly hope that we will still manage to awaken people so that they want to achieve correction in a calmer way. My true wish is that they will see the necessity of connecting without the suffering that’s lurking right around the corner, but for now, I don’t see that it is even possible to talk about it, that anyone is listening, understanding, or feeling anything in that direction. No one understands that we have no choice but to unite. The obtuseness in people’s hearts and minds is so thick that it seems impossible to penetrate.

We’re like a child standing baffled in the middle of a highway with a truck speeding toward him and with no sign of slowing down. I am screaming for the child to get off the road but he can’t hear me. This is the state of our nation; this is the state of our people.

My new article on Linkedin “Europe’s Collapse—a Reflection of the World”

Look at what is happening in Europe: The Dutch government resigned in its entirety over a childcare subsidies scandal; the Italian government is on the brink of collapse; Germany’s chancellor, Angela Merkel, is stepping down and the political future is uncertain; and Estonia’s Prime Minister, Juri Ratas, resigned over a corruption scandal and his government collapsed. If this is not enough, in Belgium and France, violent riots broke out as immigrants and members of radical political groups smashed windows, torched cars and a police station, and injured dozens of law enforcement personnel. Besides all the above, the coronavirus is spreading like never before, claiming thousands of lives each day despite the vaccines and the closures.

This is not a coincidence. We are experiencing the integrality of the world, its inexorable interconnectedness. We are dependent on each other on every level. Covid-19 forced us to acknowledge that contagion anywhere is contagion everywhere. Now we have to advance to the next phase in our awakening and realize that a crisis in anything is a crisis in everything. The coronavirus wrecked the global economy, tore up the society in countless countries, and as a result, governments are falling apart. This is all part of the same process: the collapse of the old, individualism-driven world, which is now crumbling in a global domino effect.

The crisis is everywhere. The global interdependence behooves global coordination and collaboration. It only makes sense that if we are dependent on each other, we will cooperate in order to make things better for all of us.

While many have already realized that we are dependent on each other, this is not enough. Now we must also realize that we are responsible for one another! Currently, countries are behaving like mountain climbers scaling an impossibly steep cliff. They realize that they are all tied together, but instead of using their mutual dependence to help each other to the top, they are trying to tear the ropes that hold them together and climb on each other’s head on their way to the top. Any novice climber will tell you that there is only one result that such an attitude can yield, and it is not a good one. The only way up is together, by watching out for one another, making sure that everyone has a good grip on the rock, and that if someone slips, the others will hang on until he can find his footing again.

The escalating global mayhem should teach us that we are in absolute interdependence and there is no point trying to take down any country because we will all go down with it. Look at what happened in the presidential election in America: Suddenly, we realize that everyone is meddling with the election in America: Russia, China, Ukraine, Iran, as well as other countries. There is no point pretending that we didn’t know. It can’t be any other way! If what happens in one country influences all the other countries, naturally, those other countries will want to influence what happens everywhere. Everyone does it to everyone so there is no point pretending that it doesn’t happen.

The problem is that such a game can last only so long, and we are nearing its end. The spiraling collapse of governments and societies indicates that we are nearing a total breakdown. When that happens, we will be left with one of two options: The first, and less likely, is that at the last minute, governments will get a grip on their power hunger and agree to establish balanced connections that are acceptable to everyone and guarantee the well-being of all the countries in the world. The second, and regrettably more likely option, is that the ruthless tug of war will end in total destruction, a nuclear world war. The local collapses of the past months have been warning signs. If we don’t heed them, the big one will follow.
