Equality In The Group?

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: Suppose one person has been studying in the system of integral upbringing for six months or a year, and someone else is just starting. Should these people study together, in the same space? Or should this work by a principle whereby the more experienced person educates the beginner?

Answer: An experienced person and a beginner cannot be equal in the same group. In our world we bring up children up to the age of twenty years or slightly less, and then set them free into the world. Until we prepare them for life, we treat them as children. We cultivate our level in them, the level of security, support, gradual inclusion into the world, and the feeling of responsibility for their actions, deeds, and behavior.

We should relate to beginners the same way: support them, treat them as children, and not expect correct behavior immediately. In practice, all people on earth will be classified according to the results they will display in integral upbringing.

A Person’s Age Is Not An Obstacle In Studying

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: There are different stages in educating children according to age: until the age of three, from the age of three to six, from six to nine. Are there such stages in educating adults?

Answer: There are stages, but they are independent of age. When a person reaches adulthood at the age of 18-20, the rest of his development is independent of age; it only depends on internalizing the material both theoretically and practically.

We see this in our courses in which 20-25 year old men, women, and people who are old enough to be not only their parents but their grandparents take part. They have such lively discussions that the generation gap among them becomes absolutely irrelevant because they discuss totally new and even unexpected to them personal, family, and social relationships.

It’s very interesting to see how irrelevant age is from the questions people ask during the lessons or in lectures, and by the way they take part in the discussion. But seniority does matter because experience is acquired gradually over years.

During that time a person should be led. More and more new people come to the groups. Then these groups connect. The separate groups of men and women will also connect, and as a unified group, they’ll connect with the children’s groups and then split up again.

We have to “mix” the students’ society so that they’ll be ready to understand the different states in life correctly and how to deal with them: the mutual relations at work, with managers, with subordinates, with neighbors, with people whom you may find unpleasant or whom you like, as well as with relatives to whom you are somewhat obliged. Thus, a certain transformation will begin in the relationships between people.

We have to talk about all of this and to discuss these matters. A person should experience it, live it, as if “dress” in other people, comparing himself to them, and as a result, connect with them into a single whole.

Thus many scenes will be played inside a person. And video films and discussions are very helpful in this process.

A Course On Harmonious Education

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: Today we already have a request from state and public organizations for a course of integral upbringing for adults. How do you envision the structure of this course? What should we educate people about so that they would learn how to live harmoniously, in concord with each other?

Answer: I think that it shouldn’t be just one course, but a collection of various disciplines. People should acquire primary knowledge, discuss it in a group, whether in a classroom or virtually, but with an instructor, that is, a specialist who can explain the material in an understandable way.

First and foremost, one should study human psychology on a basic, fundamental level, where each of us could understand: Who am I; what am I; how do I think, act, and interact with others. It is necessary to explain the psychology of interactions between spouses, between parents and children, the correct way to relate to children, children’s upbringing, and home economics on the basis of the requirements put forth by nature: How much we consume, how much we give back. In other words, we must put ourselves in a framework that will allow us to exist in a state of balance.

Naturally, each of us needs a place to live, a family, security, healthcare, food, and so on. All these are basic needs of every human being, and one should feel sure that they will be met, provided that he satisfies all the requirements of society.

All the other requirements depend on the person’s position: He either works in production or is engaged in social work, studies or, perhaps teaches others. People will practically work about two or three hours a day. Some may work more, some less, but that won’t determine how much they earn.

The remaining mass of people will be engaged only in creating a homeostasis, an equilibrium for the entire system of human activity on our planet. This is when we will see a different society.

All of this needs to be explained, broken down by discipline. We need to explain the full history of humanity as a consequence of development of our egoism, which brought us today to a state of such complete satiation that we don’t wish to develop any further.

We no longer desire anything in life. We come to depression, drugs, and terrorism, in other words, to the final stage: the rebirth of our egoism. Today we no longer wish to strive towards anything, but on the contrary, we plunge downwards, into alcoholism, and degradation because we don’t see any prospects in future growth. Our egoism, having arrived today at its maximum level of development, is starting to finalize itself and acquire an integral form, but we are not ready for that.

This is why we don’t understand what to do from now on, why we cannot organize the earth’s resources, communication networks, and, in general, the entire development. A new common paradigm, a new attitude towards life, should give a person an opportunity to correct the crisis in all realms of life: family, society, ecology, economics, and so on.

After a general education course, we need to introduce a course on integral upbringing. A course on upbringing entails group lessons, where people literally work through all possible elements of communication through discussions and all kinds of role-playing games.

They work through them like any actor who has a few hundred techniques in stock from which he then compiles a role, an image of a certain person. This is how we must educate a person about the laws of behavior in an integral world. And it won’t seem artificial to him because we will teach him about the correct interaction with others from which he would suddenly feel some higher sensation of tranquility, peace, and fulfillment.

His inner void, which he previously fulfilled at the expense of economic achievements in capitalist competitions, will start to become filled from a completely different direction, according to a different scheme. It will be filled in such a way that he will feel himself safe and secure. Nobody will enter in any confrontations with him.

We must include a large number of groups in this part of the course. I think that it will be a very serious, exciting action in which parents with children, spouses, and entire neighborhoods can participate.

Here we will start to form a new type of social interactions, a new view of life and the world, within which a person will begin to sense the globality of nature, its integrality and inner harmony. This inner harmony is essentially where our inner demand lies. This is what we want to experience in our life and what we are attempting to achieve in our useless competition with each other.

The Architects Of The Integral World

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: If we organize a course on integral relationships for a group of people, will it move them closer to the question about the goal, or will they just understand that the modern world is like this?

Answer: This will bring them closer to the goal. They will begin to feel it, however, in a natural way.

We experience plenty of “revolutions” on our spiritual path because we build the structure of the upper world; we study and form it like architects, designers, and naturalists. Other people, however, do not participate in the study, design, and construction; they do not care and take advantage of what others have done. How many real researchers of nature, artists, and educators with a capital letter are there in the world? There are few. However, they change the world and lead it forward from generation to generation. Others play the role of “users.”

You open a new world, build it, extend the relationships between people and the Creator, and through yourself conduct the Light that Reforms. You carry the methods of education, unity, and upbringing to them, and they use that because life itself leaves them no choice. As a child has no options but to go to school, so will they get integral upbringing from you. Namely you will become a mentor, a father for them.

Question: Will this encourage them to continue the path and choose the proper environment?

Answer: They cannot continue, they can only use. Of course, they can be induced to use it more, but not in a creative sense, but namely in application.

The Universal Law Of Harmony

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: What do you mean when you are talking about harmony?

Answer: Harmony is easy. It comes from the fact that there are two forces in nature: the force of bestowal (the positive force) and the force of receiving (the negative one), which at different levels (biological, physical, moral, and so on) manifest themselves as balanced systems. If these forces are balanced in the human body, the body is absolutely healthy. If they are balanced in nature, this means it’s in a state of absolute rest. A lack of balance leads to all sorts of movements.

Naturally, imbalance is necessary because it produces life. It’s the constant interaction between two forces within certain limits, the variation of their relation to each other that create life. For example, the expansion and contraction of the chest, heart, and other organs are built on mutual movement of the opposing forces that support and complement each other. Life is what occurs between them, owing to their proper and harmonious interaction.

In our development, we will reach a point when the entire human community will achieve precisely this mode of operation whereby all its parts mutually oscillate. But these oscillations, like breathing, will be interdependent with each other, when the force of bestowal is equal to the force of reception. They will alternately interact with each other: However much we give to nature, so should we receive; however much we receive, so we’ll have to give.

Then, we will live in harmony, homeostasis, meaning a state of mutual support. Nature that brings us to a state of equilibrium between its two main forces, the force of giving and the force of receiving, intends that we come to this. It’s nature’s general trend.

We can do nothing with this general universal law. We can only understand where we go and how to fit voluntarily, knowingly into this external, absolutely binding law. Thus, we’ll feel comfortable not only in the final state to which we will come, but at all stages of development.

The Uppermost Ideal Is “We”

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: What does it mean to unite? Is it by our thoughts or by practically hugging someone? What is the meaning of the concept of “unity”?

Answer: If you are talking about the ninety-nine percent of the world’s population, they need to understand that they have to unite on terms of equality and mutual concession. They have to realize that we are all in the same boat on this one, small planet that could explode any moment.

The concept of “unity” refers to the unification of all of our efforts for attaining agreement above all the differences that tear us apart. It is when we put collective interests above personal ones.

The uppermost ideal is “we.” All the rest is meaningless. It makes no difference who is right and who is wrong. First and foremost, it is “we”! This should be the basis for making decisions, organizing different actions, and creating plans and programs. Everything should be done only in terms of “we”!

Gradually, we are beginning to understand that we all are so different only so that this “we” will be rich and varied. Each of us still will be able to exist in it namely with his or her individualism.

Take any electronic system, and you will see that there are many separate parts, but they all work together. The collective idea exists above all opposite elements.

Ninety-Nine Plus One

Dr. Michael LaitmanThe things we see in this world, such as society, the environment, and humanity are all reflections of our infinite state in our so far egoistic screens. This is how we see the world of Infinity where we already exist.

If a person begins to connect to the goal of creation, wishing to attain the Creator and become like Him in qualities, he should join a society and use it for his advancement. My goal to attain the Creator, identify myself with Him, and unite determines my entire attitude toward society, my friends, and myself.

This pertains to the part of humanity that possesses the “point in the heart.” First of all, this point obligates one to attain the Creator, and he comes to the group for this purpose. Then, a person learns that in order to attain the Creator, he needs to connect because this is how we develop our desire to bestow. We will reveal the Creator through the desire to bestow, which we will attain by mutually developing one another.

However, there is that second part of humanity, the ninety-nine percent, in whom the point in the heart has not awakened, and they do not feel the need to attain the Creator. They do not strive toward Him. Life’s problems are the only thing that drives them, and these problems must correspond to our development. They are the consequence of the lack of connection between people.

They will feel the need to connect into a big and wide human society, not just a group. Their goal is to have a good corporeal life, attained through uniting a nation or all of humanity.

Of course, they do not need to go through the same stages we go through in the group. They only need to know the right way to connect into a homogeneous, unified society whose only purpose is to achieve stability, certainty, and corporeal fulfillment.

However, because these two groups exist in connection, one inside the other, the first group (that aspires toward the Creator and has united because of spiritual problems and needs, not because of problems of this corporeal life) radiates its values to the larger group, making it think that there are more worthy goals than just this life. There is more to gain.

Then the second group, the ninety-nine percent, suddenly begins to feel a higher goal and a need to attain it. Thus, it advances. In the end, these two groups begin to come closer to one another. Even though they had different goals, the second group, humanity, suddenly discovers an opportunity to attain an eternal, full, and perfect life that is even higher than the previous corporeal ideal. Then, they accept this new desire.

Thus ultimately, everyone will unite and return to a single system as it was in the beginning of creation.

ARI Research Institute: A Meeting At The UN

On Tuesday, Seth Bogner, ARI Institute board member and US Executive Director, met with the staff of UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon. This meeting was a follow up to the meeting in September with the Deputy Secretary General Dr. Asha Rose Migiro. Mr. Bogner presented the Ari Institute’s Integral Education course for the people of the world. He also delivered our message that the crisis, approached constructively, can be an opportunity for a long-sought social and indeed global transformation.

On January 1, 2012 the Secretary General will begin his second term in which he is making Education a primary theme of his new administration. In his acceptance speech for his second term he underlined the need to “improve our ability to deliver as one” and “do more to connect the dots among the world’s challenges.”

The UN seems to be ready to listen to our message. They have requested our comments on the Secretary General’s educational plan and they have invited our collaboration going forward to help formulate their educational programs. A follow up meeting is already scheduled. While we cannot be sure of the outcome of our collaboration with the UN, we are very hopeful that the fact the UN is willing to listen to us is a big breakthrough we can use to our benefit to spread our message of unity to the world.

Why Should We Quote Scientists?

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: In dissemination we use scientific materials. What scientists say is true. What is the difference between us and them? What do we add to their message?

Answer: With the help of different scientists we explain the general picture of reality to humanity: the beginning, the process, the end of its development, and human egoism that has become global these days and demands that we connect integrally.

We classify scientists and experts according to different fields: biology, zoology, geography, social sciences, or economics. These are respectable people, they have a reputation, and their opinions are very similar to our message. Therefore, we publish their ideas on our sites and in our materials. It helps us establish a strong basis upon which we can build the other part of our explanations.

On the basis of scientific evidence, with the help of scientists, we pave the way to the masses, to humanity. When scientists confirm that we are right, they enable us to tell about global and integral processes that oblige humanity to act.

Every scientist is limited to his field. He describes only one aspect of a phenomenon, part of the picture, but unfortunately he doesn’t present a full, global picture. On the other hand, we speak about the matter of creation: the desire and its comprehensive development by the Light. We are not limited by the traditional scientific frameworks. Experts from different fields usually don’t understand one another, but we are dealing with one, whole, and complex science.

Humanity divided knowledge into separate disciplines only a few centuries ago. Until then, there was no such division, and scientists studied different fields. They were true scholars. But eventually human knowledge expanded to such an extent that a single person cannot perceive it all. So we had to create an artificial division into different disciplines.

But the wisdom of Kabbalah doesn’t divide nature and reality into separate parts. In our circle we perceive sciences from different disciplines, whether it is physics, biology, or economics. We want to show people that the world is “round,” that the current crisis includes everyone, and that today we too have to be “round” and to connect.

Therefore we draw the scientists to our field. At the same time, however, their materials should be published on the Internet independent of us. After the convention we will begin to build a massive system of virtual dissemination so that all our groups around the world could start working on it.

We have to put pinpointed scientific data on wider and more general bands. Today for example, we talk a lot about the economic crisis. However, the economy is a copy of our ego, and the economic problems indicate that the crisis affects every aspect of our life. We want to make people aware of the general evil, and not to settle for local “clarifications.” We want to show them their need for correction.

When we talk about the measures that need to be taken, the Light enters the picture. The explanations don’t come from scientists alone, but from us. We describe the general approach to what is happening, we base it on other sources, and then thanks to the Light, people suddenly begin to understand that the good life they yearn for is something else, not what they thought. They realize that good life is bestowal, an ascent to another dimension. And it is the Light “nested” in our explanations that will bring them to that.

Business In The Integral World

Dr. Michael LaitmanThe world economy stands on the verge of global changes, which essentially boil down to the inevitable, deep, and permanent reduction in demand. This means that industrial capacities producing non-essential items gradually will be shut down. First this will hit weak businesses that have low competitiveness in quality, productivity, and innovation.

The main change that is required is to reject the profit motive, which is the objective of business. Profit will continue to play a role in the functioning of the business, but it will cease to be important in and of itself. What matters is its mission, the purpose it serves.

Today, profit is the main thing in any industry and any method is used to attain it. The profits are used to fulfill the desires of a narrow group of people.

Profit should result from effective economic and industrial activity, serve as a measure of its effectiveness, but be directed at raising every member of society above the poverty level. At the same time, businesses and society must see that the profits of each enterprise be allocated to raise living standards to the level required for existence, as necessary for the survival of society under new conditions.

Of course, shareholders are entitled to receive their share of the profit, but they will strive to develop the enterprises necessary for society. Their investments will be recorded in their personal accounts, and society and public opinion will support them. A percentage of profit and investments should be in the development of integral education and upbringing of the managers, shareholders, and employees of the company because a successful business and its correct public distribution depends mainly on them.

In the integral world, only new business working relationships can fit. The company’s staff is a mechanism of control, and the principle “supervisor-subordinate” relationship will continue to exist, but only within a system of friendly relationships, in unity, striving for a common goal within the company, country, and the world.

Thus, the main objective of entrepreneurs will be to engage millions of people in the creation of a common future: the society of mutual guarantee. Due to mandatory integral education and upbringing, everyone who builds his work on these values will achieve correct results. The formation and development of the value base of employees should become the key priority for entrepreneurs.

Since the motivation of man will cease to be based on material factors, due to the support from the community that provides everything necessary for existence, society must find new methods to motivate people to work effectively, such as the desire for leadership to the benefit of society, public recognition, and so on. No enterprise will be able to become part of the new global economic system if it does not pass through inner spiritual renewal, transformation, and accepts new basic values.
