Everyone Is Equal In Spirituality

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: How can a little person bring many people to the unification on which his correction depends? Does he really have the necessary instruments to accomplish that?

Answer: There are no little or big people. We reside in the world of Infinity, a complete, integral system. However, if there is some flaw in what is whole, it is not complete any longer, and its wholeness is broken. Therefore, everyone is as important as all the others.

Imagine that this system has an input and an output, but the path through it leads through all its elements without exception, which are linked into one chain. In this case, does it matter how many internal elements are flawed and are tearing the chain apart, a thousand or just one?

Obviously, the fewer flawed elements that remain, the easier it is to fix them, and from this point of view, one flawed link is preferable to a thousand. However, if we examine the output of a flawed, fragmentary system, we see that one flawed element is sufficient to break the system.

Therefore, every one of us is important, and there are no little or big men. All of us are needed, and we must think about all. From the Creator’s point of view, there is no difference between people, between the souls, whatsoever.

Fear Playing Lottery

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: What is the path of the Light and the path of suffering? What is this suffering for? Is it our egoism?

Answer: Undoubtedly, we experience suffering in our will to receive pleasure. However, pain can be felt even in the will to bestow. It all depends on how you define suffering.

Imagine, if you will, that I found Kabbalah, entered the group, and studied for a long time. But in the end, I suddenly won a multi-million dollar lottery! Now, my life has changed. Is it, in your opinion, the path of the Light or the path of suffering?

I can call it a path of suffering because now this money confuses me, and I don’t know what to do with it. I was thinking only about Kabbalah, but at this point, I have to think about the money since it is such an enormous sum. In what do I invest it so that it doesn’t devalue? How do I use it correctly?

As it turns out, this is the path of suffering since instead of advancing in a smooth, simple, and straight way, I am swayed off the path to go around, make a long loop. Whether I like it or not, I have to become involved in material matters, giving it my time and loading my mind with these thoughts. I cannot break away from it, and it is a huge problem which is a true pain where the desire to bestow and the spiritual goal are concerned.

As to the will to receive pleasure, you ought to say that it is the path of the Light and that you have received a reward for your righteous work. You think that it is a blessing sent to you from Above. Therefore, everything depends on which scale you use to measure it, from what have you chosen to receive pleasure.

Turning Many Into One

Dr. Michael LaitmanThere is a law: “In spiritual life, ‘take after the individual,’ and in corporeal life, ‘take after the collective.’” However, it doesn’t mean that I need to run to a town square where thousands of people are gathered, ask them what they want, and start sharing their desires. “To take after the collective” means to care about the unification of many people because only through this unification will I transform my Kli (vessel), my desires.

I run after them in order to add them to myself and link to their internal desires. I don’t look at their material, animate needs, but rather I strive to uncover their internal desires that tie them into one network.

If I desire to become engaged in this upper spiritual network that connects all into one, it is regarded as “taking after the collective,” where my desire is to bring the collective to oneness and participate therein. As a result, the many become as one for me.

A Road Made Of Crossroads

Dr. Michael LaitmanNot only do we have an opportunity to gain free will, but we simply must. No one will be able to avoid it since all the forces of nature are pushing and pulling us toward it. You and all the others, any person in the world, everybody, will have to realize their free will in some way.

Two paths lay before us: the path of the Light (the path of Kabbalah) and the path of suffering. The choice needs to be made every instant. Don’t assume that once you found yourself at a crossroad and chose to turn right or left, you will keep following that road.

I moved one meter ahead on some road, and now, I am facing a choice again, standing at the crossroad once more. I made my pick, took a step on this road, and I find myself at yet another intersection where I have to choose again. At each step, I am given the freedom to make a choice, and the same two paths open before me.

I must keep choosing between them every moment, from state to state, at each new point along which I advance by building from them a line, a path to my final correction, Gmar Tikkun.

At each new point, I have to decide in what direction I will move, and since a point is a circle, I chose from all 360 degrees. However, essentially, all these directions unify in two possible options: the path of Light or the path of pain.

What Will Bring Me To The Root Of My Soul?

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: How can I reveal the root of my soul faster?

Answer: When a person connects to the group, he attracts the influence of the Light upon himself. It exposes to him his opposition to this connection, his distance from others, his disregard, hate, and repulsion from them.

What does the root of a soul mean? It is my place in the system of the common desire which was created by the Creator. I can reveal it only on condition that I am fully connected with the rest of the souls since only then do I understand my role in the common organism.

Therefore, our correction consists of awakening the Light which will connect us with the entire system. Then even a feeling of repulsion from unification helps to reveal our place.

The process of discernment of my place with regard to other souls is gradual and lengthy since a person reveals his true place and role in the common system only after he reaches attainment and becomes included in everyone. Then the power of bestowal in him begins to shape the form of receiving, meaning that bestowal becomes greater than receiving, which occurs because the Light has sufficiently affected him.

Thus, you should agree to receive the property of bestowal and let the Light act!

To Depend On The Environment Is To Be Free From Your Ego

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: How can I, during the preparation period, when I haven’t reached spiritual revelation yet, determine that each day I value bestowal more and more?

Answer: You can evaluate it by your own internal sensation, thoughts, goals, and importance of the group, by how much you appreciate and hear the friends, by how strongly you feel that you need them all the time, like an infusion, and that if you don’t receive their support, you will fall.

This feeling is very important. To depend on the environment is to be free from your ego! You must strive to always depend on the friends and feel them as strongly as possible so that they influence and protect you as much as possible, which means to constantly receive from them a special illumination, an impact of the force.

We need to try feeling that only this keeps us in the correct direction. If the environment doesn’t impact me from the outside, I lose the aim for the Creator.

And then, try to connect everything in one place, in one integral desire: yourself, the friends, and the Creator. I, they, and the Creator should not exist separately, like the vertices of a triangle; rather, we have to came together into a single desire, in the same area.

And if I and they are concerned with each other, care about, and bestow to each other, it means we free between us the space for the Creator’s revelation. He becomes revealed between us!

If the environment doesn’t affect me, I am not able to break free from my egoism and think about something outside of its interests. And hence, to depend on them is to be free from egoism. If the society influences me, I feel how it directs me to the goal.

I appeal to the environment (1); the environment influences me (2); I aim myself to the Creator (3). It cannot be otherwise! If not, I will be pulled back into my egoism. I will actually feel how it is sinking me and pulling my legs down. But the environment will immediately give me strength to tear away from it and ascend, and then I will become one with the Creator.

Every time you feel that it starts pulling you down more and more, give it another round (1-2-3).

Where Is Our Freedom?

Nature Froze And Awaits Your Decision

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: What force lifts the worlds on Saturday after Adam HaRishon is born and before he falls into sin?

Answer: There is a force regarded as an “awakening from Above” (Itaruta de-Leila). It could simply be seen as the upper Light expanding from the world of Infinity while we don’t know how and why. But in truth, there is no “awakening from Above” without an “awakening from below” (Itaruta de-Letata), from the creature itself.

There is a chain of informational genes (Reshimot) that must unfold and become clarified one by one, which descend from the still, vegetative, animate, and speaking degrees. Reshimot of the still, vegetative, and animate degrees unfold naturally, subconsciously, on their own, because there is no free will at these degrees.

They unfold one by one and gradually arrive at the state when there is a leap to a new degree. Where it comes from, we don’t know. But it occurs due to the fact that the preparation at the still, vegetative, and animate degrees has been completed, and you suddenly start to feel how your state has changed. You start thinking, seeing things, and feeling everything differently.

The reason is that the Reshimot which are below your awareness, understanding, preparation, free will and which get naturally discerned have been actualized. The Creator prepares all the conditions for you to use your free will, and you must perform on your own now.

It is similar to how you don’t control the processes in your corporeal body. You don’t need to think about how all the atoms and molecules are moving in it, how metabolism and various internal systems work. Imagine how complex these processes with an infinite number of conditions are, and all of it works automatically.

Spiritual development is the same: The upper force brings us to the point where our free will begins. And this expands to the entire system, the entire desire created by the Creator, the entire still, vegetative, and animate nature, its enormous systems. But it isn’t our job and is automatic, thanks to the interaction of the Light and desires.

The Light affects desires; desires respond to the Light; and this is how the whole world, the entire universe, everything strives to achieve equilibrium. The only exception is man!

So it is today in our world: All of nature exists in balance, but the problem is in man who has to exercise free will and establish this balance. As it is in the spiritual world, all events that were taking place before Adam’s fall into sin, including the fall itself, were occurring under control of the force from Above (Itaruta de-Leila), through the chain of Reshimot, until we reach the place of free will. And there, everything freezes and waits until man will make a decision.

That is what is actually happening in our world today: Nature is waiting for us to make our choice. It will pressure us since while it is waiting, the Reshimot of the still, vegetative, and animate degrees get accumulated and bring us numerous problems on all planes of the external world, until we finally decide, at our speaking degree, that we must go forth for the correction.

The still, vegetative, and animate nature pressures us so we may continue on the path of correction at our human degree.

Make Your Heart Understand

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: If our spiritual advancement does not depend on theoretical knowledge of the structure of the worlds and Partzufim, why then do we discuss it in such detail and ask questions during the TES (Talmud Eser Sefirot) lessons?

Answer: If you understand something about the structure of the world incorrectly, it won’t prevent you from spiritual advancement. But it is necessary to study in order to draw the Light.

Due to your aspiration to understand what it is written in The Study of Ten Sefirot, you will want to reveal this state and experience the spiritual worlds yourself. You will eventually realize that without true revelation, you will not understand anything.

You should use all your eagerness to understand what is written in order to finally realize that understanding comes not in the mind but solely through the revelation. And when you start wishing for this revelation, you will receive correction. In truth, revelation implies authentic sensation and not some theoretical comprehension by way of reason. When you get to know the spiritual world, you will understand it based on your own experience, which is regarded as “the heart understands.”

But at present, you are trying to understand by way of reason where and what Sefira is located geometrically, where it goes up and down along the squares on the paper, instead of thinking how they are connected by their properties, their internal essence.

It is very important to be aware of this; otherwise, you will lose big time. You will lose not some few Sefirot drawn on the chart on the paper—you will lose the Light that Reforms.

“Do His Will As Your Own”

Dr. Michael LaitmanWe have to evoke a lack of fulfillment in the upper Partzuf. Only then, on our desire, will it perform a Zivug (union) with its upper ones up to the world of Infinity and will bring the Light that will beget, correct, and fulfill us. If you cannot awaken the upper one and stir up the desire in it, you will not merit any change.

We study in the wisdom of Kabbalah how to ask the upper Partzuf. Therefore, you may scream, jump, do whatever you please, it won’t help. “My sons defeated Me” means that “the sons” force the Creator to reform them.

What else can you do if everything descends from Above due to the prior awakening below? You don’t know what the upper Partzuf is doing, nor does it interest you what actions it performs. What you are interested in is how you can make it work.

In other words, you must understand how to ask correctly. This means that in any case, you have to know what the upper one is going to do with you, or you will be asking it not what it desires to do. He wants to give you a glass of milk, but you want to ask for a glass of juice. In this case, he can’t hear and doesn’t understand you. He knows that at the moment, you need a glass of milk, exactly that, and in a specific amount.

“Do His will and your own” means that this is what you must learn, and to achieve this, you need faith above reason. You must study all the disturbances that the upper one instills in you, all the “bad” states, all the so-called declines that it uses to provoke you. If you analyze correctly and rise above them by way of faith above reason, you will be certain to know what the upper one wants from you, ask exactly that, and receive it.

All that I feel right now, if I pay attention to it, is what the upper one wants me to ask from it. The upper one wants me to turn to it, but it doesn’t instill this desire in me directly since it wishes me to attain it so I may become as the upper one is, so I may become wise.

How do we teach children? We offer them problematic situations, but do not provide solutions. We gradually guide them to develop an ability to think, understand, discover, and want to find a solution on their own. This is the same as the upper one does with us. Every moment of our life is a mere hint, a sign that it is giving us so that we will know what to ask for, what is worth asking for, and in what form we should do it.

It’s all about creating our MAN (Mayin Nukvin), a plea, a prayer. If we pay attention to it, then we have an open book before us. Next time, I will turn to the upper one with a correct request. What happens after that, I don’t know.

Kabbalists tell us about it so as to bring us closer to our roots. We study Atik, Arich Anpin, the world of Infinity, and so on. Why do I need to know all this?

Let’s say, the only thing that interests me is my connection with my mother, but what happens beyond that, supermarkets or factories that produce things, none of it matters to me at all. I only yell, “Mom, give me candy!” However, in the future, you must become an adult. You must understand things and take part in them in some way.

Therefore, we are so eager to fill little children with all types of knowledge so that they may know and understand as much as possible. In order for a child to not just ask, but also understand why and what for, you explain to him or her that this is okay, but that it is not okay at the moment because he or she shouldn’t be eating sweets before dinner. You explain to a child much more than what he or she is asking for, and that is a relationship we share with the upper one.

Where Can You “Buy” Aspiration?

Dr. Michael LaitmanWhen reading The Zohar we have to focus on the connection between the souls because that is exactly where the breaking occurred. We have to imagine the corrected state in which we attain unity among the souls.

The souls are the aspirations to reveal the Creator. Every person who has this aspiration has to desire to increase it by connecting with others. Then he receives the same aspiration from them, and that way he grows.

It is known that with the help of hatred, passion, and the lust for power, we can be impressed by the friends’ aspiration to unite with the Creator, to reveal Him. This is exactly what we want to “buy” from them.

Therefore, during the study each of us desires to attach to himself the group’s entire aspiration to reveal the Creator. This is possible only in the unity between us. After all, I cannot steal a friend’s aspiration. But if I connect with him, then each of us already has the common force. And then, once we combine enough forces, each of us can attain the revelation of the Creator.

However, a connection between us cannot emerge only because I want to unite with my friend’s aspiration. I do not have the strength to connect with him. I need the Light to perform this action.

We are in a broken state where there is no connection among us. I want this connection to emerge, and then with the common force, I attain revelation. This is what we have to think about while reading The Book of Zohar. Everything we study in The Zohar are just corrected forms of connection among us.
