The Matrix Of Oneness

Dr. Michael LaitmanNinety-nine point nine percent of all changes in us occur while we don’t see and are unaware of them although we do influence and expedite these acts by striving to be corrected. But they take place just like the physical processes in our bodies that we also don’t need to think about.

I am not the one to pump blood through my arteries and it’s not my job to make sure my lymphatic and nervous system, as well as all my organs, work well. If anything, I can “unplug” altogether and fall into a sleeping mode, worrying about nothing, and my body will continue to live and even grow.

In spiritual development it occurs in the same manner. There are many processes that we don’t need to be conscious of and determine their form and order. There is one very narrow interval where we make our own decisions and input our participation. And it is sufficient, it’s all we need to achieve everything!

We reveal “oneness.” And by way of this oneness, the adhesion to which we aspire, we acquire the knowledge of all the other elements of the system that we didn’t know. I am given free will so that I will work on achieving adhesion with the Creator. I am told that if I switch my intention to an altruistic one, I will get to understand the Creator. And if I understand the Creator, then this whole system opens for me and I comprehend everything!

Therefore, I don’t need to work on the entire system and examine it all in order to learn, explore, and understand all of its incredible diversity and vast multitude of phenomena. Since I acquire the desire to bestow, I understand everything that takes place within it.

We work within a tiny field while the whole big world is revealed to us. It is written: “Make an opening for me, the size of a needle’s eye, and I will open the gates of the upper world for you.” Otherwise, it would be impossible to learn about this boundless system of infinite complexity that has a countless number of parts connected by constantly changing, infinitely possible ties and everyone by his or her free choice defines the changes for all the others.

In mathematics, we know how to define one unknown factor by the other in an equation. If we have two unknown factors, then we need two equations. But in this case, we are dealing with an infinite number of unknown components, so we need an infinite number of equations connected into one system. Thus, it is a matrix with a countless number of conditions, each of which changes according to its own law.

We can’t solve such a problem since our corporeal mind is unable to accomplish it. We don’t possess mathematical instruments to approach it in the first place. But we can accomplish this in the spiritual world because we grow the Kelim of bestowal (acquire desires to bestow) and receive the power over everything therein.

Don’t Waste Your Breath

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: When we start experiencing pressure on our egoism through the blows it receives, what is the correct way to appeal to the group? What should I focus on?

Answer: If a person doesn’t have an inner demand to the group, what can he say to it? Whatever we do, we do it willingly. If a person doesn’t see why he should turn to the group, he won’t.

I appeal to the group if I feel helpless, if I see that there is nothing that can save me, that I am unable to reform myself and achieve something, if I realize that all my learned intelligence and potential will have no solution for me.

Only then am I willing to ask the friends for help. The demand surfaces in me when I search and desire to break away from this horrible state of being. That is when I discover that I can turn only to the group.

I appeal to it externally or internally. The friends may not even feel it, but I do wish to receive support and strength from them. And then I turn to them with a plea.

Otherwise, can I really listen to advice and ask the group for help? Lip service won’t help here; it’s just a waste of breath. Only when a true desire has ripened in me do I turn to the friends. It doesn’t matter whether they feel it or not. There is the force of desire in my plea, which makes it true.

“The Place” Where The Creator And I Meet

A Person Should See The Road Ahead!

Dr. Michael LaitmanFrom now on we can’t advance as we did before, blindfolded toward the unknown, without comprehension, wisdom, and precise knowledge, like animals running in an indefinite direction, fleeing to a place of safety to escape danger. This is how we have been advancing during the course of history, but today we must start evolving like the humans we are.

A human is someone who “has eyes” and sees the road ahead, knowing exactly where he is going. First, one attains the future state of existence in its “potential form,” and then he actualizes it in practice.

The forms we must now transition to are the forms of similarity to the Creator. Therefore, before anything else, we must manifest them in the connection between us, thanks to which we will acquire new properties. Then we will collectively realize our future state in practice: a stronger, tighter connection with one another, based on bestowal, wherein the Creator will be revealed.

In this manner, we will progress step by step, until we pass through all the 125 spiritual degrees. It will signify the exodus from exile to total freedom. Starting today and on, our advancement must be sighted and aware, without repeating the previous mistakes that we continually and methodically made time after time during all stages of human evolution.

Each time we tried to do something without knowing about the future, the leader who shouted loudest was given the opportunity to alter nature and human society. That person would carry out his ideas until either being overthrown or dying naturally, after which we discovered that everything he did was wrong. And the cycle would repeat all over again, from one error to the next.

Today, among all else, we are dealing with a predicament pertaining to the leadership of the world and this new trend. We are yet to see what an enormous obstacle it poses on our path and how worthless these leaders are. Eventually, they will be replaced by a worthy government, similar to the ancient “Sanhedrin” (assembly of Kabbalists), that is, an authentic spiritual council standing at the head of all of humanity.

Prayer Is Judgment Over Yourself

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: How can we go about the “internal dissemination" and what should we do throughout the day to achieve it?

Answer: Correction happens by virtue of an action called “prayer,” which is the revelation of the true desire that demands fulfillment. This work is called “praying,” which translates as “judging yourself” or discerning your inner essence: Who am I, what do I want, do I have the right desires or not, and when will my deeds be similar to the deeds of the forefathers, meaning when will my desires be similar to the ones that Kabbalists described in the prayer book?

This is not simple at all. The prayer book was created by Kabbalists, the sages of the Great Assembly who were on the highest spiritual level. They left the prayer book for us so it would serve as an example of what we have to attain in our demands.

Prayer can only be for unity, and this is called “the prayer of society” or “the prayer of many.” There is nothing else for us to pray for because all the negative events and all problems in general that are revealed in the world come from lack of unity. That’s because unity is the Creator; it is His quality. That is why this is the only thing we should think about.

Unification regards all the people in the world, both men and women. In the end everyone must unite together in one global system, the common soul of Adam HaRishon. When I study, judge, think, ask, and answer, in reality I decide just one thing: Will I bring this entire system to unity? After all, through unity we correct everything.

Besides this force during the study and the desire for this to happen, there are no other means to bring about correction. Everything else only brings more corruption. There is either one thing or the other, and nothing in the middle. All of our actions either bring correction or harm. Even if you spent one moment sitting there and not doing anything, the time went by. You wasted it and did not use it for correction, and that means you brought about destruction!

Therefore, this desire for universal unity must always be alive in us. It is our “inner dissemination.”

Replacing An Inclination

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: Humanity can be divided into three parts: some are unaware of the process that leads them toward the revelation of the Creator; others participate in this process, are aware of their evil, and are using the method of correction; and the third group are those who have already undergone correction. What is the role of and the relationship between these parts in the program of creation?

Answer: All of them are together in an integral system. Regarding those who have already undergone correction, the system is open to them, and now they are assisting with the correction of others, with full understanding and awareness of what needs to be done.

Others are making the effort to become reformed. That includes us, our friends around the world, as well as the souls which are not clothed in bodies since “clothing” into a body is determined by the needs of spiritual work. Thus, we transform ourselves with the help of the upper souls and by bestowing to the lower ones, those who haven’t awakened yet.

This entire picture looks this way only to us. In truth, we can’t say that the system is one third corrected, one third in rehabilitation, and one third dead. It is fully alive. We, however, are discussing a degree in which a person awakens to consciousness and becomes aware of where he is and what is happening with him. Regarding the Creator, everything remains in a state of perfection, and only the souls must become fully aware of it.

This means that they must reveal all their evil, meaning the will to enjoy regarded as the evil inclination, cleanse it of this evil, and keep the desire pure. Then, instead of evil, instead of this egoistic intention, the Light will give them an additional intention to bestow, which is regarded as “good.” Thus the evil inclination will be replaced by the good inclination.

A Rope To The Spiritual World

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: Is “Segula” (the “miraculous force”) a foundation for the integral upbringing?

Answer: Segula is the basis to start with since the spiritual world is opposite to our world, and thus, is completely detached from it. The spiritual world has no connection with anything corporeal. There is nothing you can do with the spiritual world: neither draw forces from it, nor affect it. Neither cards, nor “miracles,” nor red strings will help you bridge the total gap between the worlds.

A contact by way of which you can evoke spiritual impact upon yourself is formed only by tying yourself correctly to the teacher, the Kabbalistic text, and the group on the condition that you are using them to develop in yourself the intention, the vital need, and the understanding of what exactly you desire to receive from the studies.

And then, by studying with a true teacher, the right group, and authentic Kabbalistic books, you actualize your intention. And if it isn’t for that, nothing will help you. If there were no Segula in this world for us, man would remain a beast.

That is why it is so important for us to assess what these three components should be: the teacher, the books, and the group and how they must affect me together in a mutual guarantee. All of this is focused on the necessity to attain spirituality. And spirituality can be attained due to the study which contains a hidden force. This force has to work on me if I appeal to it.

The Logic Of A Reverse World

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: I still don’t understand how the “miraculous force” of the Kabbalistic books works. When I am treated by a physician, I can actually measure how it improved my condition: I can measure my temperature and demonstrate to everybody that the fever is gone. Why can’t we demonstrate how the surrounding Light works and dispel any doubts?

Answer: If I ran after the upper Light with my egoistic desire, in the end, I wouldn’t be able to gain more than a tiny spark, the “thin candle” (Ner Dakik) that fills us with the life force. We cannot invert our nature directly. How could it be otherwise if all I think about is how to receive and am unable to think about how to bestow, if all my life is aimed at how to consume, gain, and calculate what is best solely for me in every situation?! I can see nothing else!

Next to me, there is a spiritual world, but I don’t see it since I feel only what I am able to receive for my own pleasure. And what I cannot use to enjoy, I can’t see or notice! My sensory organs simply don’t perceive that bestowal also brings enjoyment because they see only how I may gain pleasure from receiving. That is how I am made.

I am placed in front of a filter that filters only one way: If some kind of pleasure is passing through it to me, I am willing to accept it. But if it remains on the other side and doesn’t enter me, I am not willing to step out of myself and experience it outside.

But isn’t this method of correction logical? You draw that very Light which created you so that it may also transform you. What is illogical in it? Is it that you are unable to see this Light with your own eyes? You certainly can’t use them to do so.

A Long Preparation For A Short Encounter

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: What do I do if I am feeling everything is great, if I don’t have a desire to rise to a more exalted state?

Answer: Let’s take a convention, for example, after which we felt a descent, it was an opportunity to reach an authentic plea, a cry, a prayer. It may be that we need more such actions. Think about it before going to bed and when you get up to attend a lesson, ask yourself: “What for? Why? How?”

Kabbalists suggest that we should take lesson preparation very seriously and take hours if necessary. Preparation is more than the lesson itself. The Light doesn’t require much time; a person doesn’t need to study all day long; one or two hours is enough. If during the day a person keeps building the intention and preparing himself for the encounter with the Light, then what matters occurs in mere minutes.

Get To Know Yourself, Get To Know The Creator

Dr. Michael LaitmanThe Creator created a perfect state where we are perfect and exist in adhesion with Him. However, in order for us to feel this state, we must first develop a sensibility to it and learn to discern its components. This sensibility must come from within us; we must acquire a spiritual perception. It’s impossible to receive the sensation externally, even though the Creator is omnipotent.

The creature has to sense its own state in relation to the Creator’s. It has to delight in adhesion and the perfection between itself and the Creator and feel the similarity to Him because there is nothing more perfect. For this, the creature has to contain two states, two details of perception, or two qualities: what it is and what the Creator is. It must be able to distinguish the difference between these qualities in depth. Only then will the creature feel the value and the loftiness of adhesion with the Creator.

The created being must include two opposites within itself. Coming from a perfect state created by the Creator, we must first of all get to know our own nature, as if the Creator doesn’t exist. And then, step by step, we have to go through the stages of getting to know the Creator’s nature.

Then we will reach the goal: We will feel our nature and the Creator’s nature, and the separation and unity between them. Ultimately, this will give us strength and a sense of greatness of the perfect state in which we already exist.

Through The Prism Of Two Desires

Dr. Michael LaitmanWe must change in order to attain the Creator since we attain Him in new vessels of perception, in new desires. Obviously, the desires themselves are not new, but they connect within us in a new way.

We have the desire to receive pleasure and the desire to bestow. In order to reveal the Creator, we must create such a connection between these desires within ourselves that would enable us to recognize Him. The Creator has 125 consecutive forms of revelation, when He reveals Himself to us closer and closer, sharper and sharper. It is 125 degrees, along which we ascend and become able to see and feel Him more and more.

How do we find the Creator? As soon as we create a connection between our desire to receive pleasure and the desire to bestow, where the will to bestow would rule over the will to receive at the first spiritual degree by giving it a form similar to the Creator, we instantly see the Creator through these desires and their unity.

In other words, I must create within me a common property between the desire to enjoy and the desire to bestow so that it becomes identical, equal, and adequate to the Creator at the first, the smallest degree of His revelation. In that case, I will see, understand, and feel Him.

In our world, there are various phenomena as well. To understand them, I have to become more intelligent, acquire additional sense, and study some more. Then, I will start sensing what is going on, in what way, and what these phenomena are.

The same happens in the wisdom of Kabbalah. In order to arouse a merger, a mutual permeation of the desire to receive and the desire to bestow in each of us at the first spiritual degree and further on, at all 125 degrees, I need the Light which would make this change in me. I, myself, am unable to perform it since while I am at the lowest degree; I do not have the slightest idea of what I must become at the next one, like a baby that doesn’t know how it will look when it is one year old.

This is why we are given the studies. We must sit and learn from the authentic sources, and the most powerful source from which to draw the Light is The Book of Zohar. When we study this book together, it is regarded as “faith above reason” if while doing so, everyone thinks about how he will unify with the others. This is because in the connection between us, we create the Creator’s form, the correct pairing between the will to receive and the will to bestow so that the desire to bestow rules over the desire to receive, thereby giving it the right form.

If I wish for it to occur during the studies, it is sufficient. There isn’t a greater commandment, and there is nothing more vital. In that case, I draw the Light so that it would align these desires for me.

It is the Light that performs it. I don’t need to know anything else. So does a small child wish to grow, and that’s why he runs, plays, and does whatever he may. So do I, like a child, do whatever it takes only to get the Light to come, reform me, and bring me back to the source, to the Creator.
