Question: We still don’t feel the pain of the external world to the fullest. How can we correct this situation by working in the group?

Answer: It is better to feel this pain as early as possible. It is like a disease, and it’s better to detect it in its early stages. The world is just starting to submerge into the crisis, but fears it already since today’s problems affect everyone. We see that the time has come, and we should disseminate materials that explain the cause of the crisis and its solution.

The whole world, including America, Europe, China, and Japan, is in trouble. Everyone is scared by what is happening and no one knows what will happen tomorrow. Some are looking at the crisis from afar, as for example Germany. However, they should be afraid even more. The one who rose higher falls lower. We cannot even imagine what will happen if tomorrow all proven mechanisms suddenly stop working.

How could it be possible? People get up in the morning, go to work, and so on.…

But no, they are not going to work. We haven’t realized yet that we are situated in an integral system of nature, while we are not integral ourselves. It’s as if we are trying to insert a square piece into a round opening. In reality, our form should resemble that of the system. This form is not simple because we are not talking about geometry, but rather about our properties.

Today the entire humanity should be gradually adopting new shapes, the correct format that corresponds to the Light. This is a very big problem. We can solve it only if we attract the Light that will perform the correction for us. This is why it is said: “I have created the evil inclination, I have created the Torah as a spice because the Light in it reforms.”

Let’s hope that we will understand this and will be able to pass it on to others.

From the initial state where all the souls were together (Σ), we transitioned to the world of the breaking, and then fell into our world. Then, after the development of egoism and the mutual inclusion of all of its parts, we reached a turning point (1995), when we need to start correcting our ego to return to the initial state.

However, if the first state was created by the Light, the Creator, we create the final state ourselves. There is a big difference here: We become similar to the Light, the Creator. This is the purpose of creation.

We are born without any self-awareness, like a drop of semen in the womb that has not become anything yet. Then we go through a preparation period, acquire the power of good (+) and evil (–), and thanks to these forces can develop on the spiritual path.

Everyone is conducting his own inner war, and together we conduct wars in society, humanity, until we reveal the truth by advancing in the middle line. At the same time, both the plus and the minus make up one whole in us. The minus is the forces of our egoism, and the plus is the forces of Light within us. This way we advance.

We must conduct this difficult work consciously and sensibly. Essentially, this is what we have to do. After all, we must return to the initial state, reveal it deep within us. To do this, we become wiser, more sensitive, and more evolved.

Starting with the current state, we begin to sink deep within us: the worlds of Assiya, Yetzira, Beria, Atzilut, and Adam Kadmon, and at the end we attain the world of Infinity (∞). Our main achievement is the realization of our own evil.

We attain everything in our ego. As we direct it towards bestowal, we keep sinking deeper and reveal the upper worlds in it, until all of it, the entire Malchut of the world of Infinity which we had in the initial state, transforms itself to have the intention to bestow. This way we go through the second state, which includes our entire path, and reach the third state.

As Baal HaSulam writes, the method of Kabbalah allows us to reveal the evil, egoism, within us. As we correct it, we sink deeper, and there we reveal all the worlds, the entire spiritual reality. After all, the Creator did not create anything except for the receiving desire. This desire took on an egoistic form though the breaking, and now we need to correct it into bestowal.

Today we feel like we exist in a miserable, dark, and limited reality. Being opposite to the Light, we can perceive only it. We are like a drop of semen that has no idea what will become of it.

However, as we evoke the Light to develop us and change our receiving desire to bestowal, we attain it, the Creator, according to the law of equivalence of form, until our desire and the Light become similar to one another.

Question: I remember that as a child, I was always dreaming about growing up faster and becoming independent. When I grew up, I suddenly started to appreciate things I had as a child. Does the preparation period also contain moments that we have to truly appreciate or do we need to go through it as fast as possible?

Answer: In spirituality things do not happen the same way as in the corporeal life since spirituality is perfection on every degree. This is where the difficulty lies: You have to find a deficiency on every degree in order to advance further.

Every spiritual state is part of Infinity. However, only this part becomes revealed to you while the rest remains in concealment. This is why it seems to you that it’s final, that it’s already the world of Infinity! You receive the full 10 Sefirot on your level.

First of all, you do not regret your past. Although there is a special state when we do that to help ourselves to move forward. However, usually we reveal how necessary it was to go through something in the past, how perfect was the upper governance, and how small we were by not realizing that even then we existed in the world of Infinity and did not see it only because of the lack of developed desires, organs of perception (Kelim).

Question: How much Light do I need to draw so I would finally return to the Source?

Answer: This will become clear from the revelation of evil. For example, when my car breaks down, I bring it to a repair shop. A specialist there says to me: “You cannot turn the steering wheel, but it’s not the cause of the problem, the steering rods are.” That is, first of all he finds the breakage and only then he decides how to fix it.

Only when you understand the cause of the malfunction can you see what needs to be done with your evil inclination. You have to see the problem. By doing this you attain the purpose of creation and understand who the Creator is, according to the principle of “we will know You from Your actions.”

He gave you a broken car, you understood the nature of the problem, and from that you realized how to correct it. As a result, you understood what it means to be corrected. This is what makes you a human being similar to the Creator. Without the realization of evil, you will not understand what Light you need and will not come to the true appeal about the correction, called MAN.

After all, MAN is the union between Malchut and Bina. I have to know what within me is uncorrected from the side of Malchut and what should be my corrected form from the side of Bina. When both of them are already connected within me, it is called MAN. Now I know what I have to come to, while the nature of the Light that will perform the correction is still unknown to me. However, it is clear to me that an external force which will perform this task is necessary here.

Our task is twofold: On one hand, we need to work on ourselves, but on the other, we need to help the rest of humanity. It is already feeling the crisis, and at the next phase we’ll need to unite with them so as to continue on the path together. In so doing, we will obviously lead the general movement because people simply don’t know how to reach the goal. We have to become like a “pulling force”: the part of humanity that carries it forward.

In order to lead others, we must first take care of ourselves. However, it’s important to remember that we would not have received the spiritual awakening if we didn’t need to correct the world and lead it. For this reason, we will not achieve success today if we only concern ourselves with our own advancement. We must worry about the whole of humanity, the whole world, so as to bring all people to unifying together into a single soul that we once were. This is the reason we were awakened, and this must be our governing intention.

So how do we develop ourselves while setting the right path for the world at the same time? The general law of our work is that there is a single force called the “Light” or the “Creator,” which governs the world and influences it. This force determines and controls everything. In order to consciously blend in and integrate into its operation, we must wish for it to accelerate our development. Without this desire, it will develop us in accordance with the original program via powerful negative stimuli that drive the masses.

That is why our entire work amounts to demanding accelerated development and keeping ahead of the negative phenomena of nature’s original program. To this end, we must always understand that we stand before a single force that influences us. And we must compel it to exert a stronger, faster, and more effective influence, to literally “pull” it in the right direction.

It is like a son pulling a mother’s hand. But if he’s pulling in the wrong direction, nothing will come of it—they won’t go to the movies if he needs to go to kindergarten, just because he wants to. Similarly, we must always aspire in the right direction, wishing to locate this single force, the only force in existence. We want to study it, to learn how it operates and where it is aimed.

And that is why we demand for it to reveal itself since its actions will then become clear to us. Knowing all this, we demand for it to accelerate the pace of our development. Every time we “pull” it in the right direction, it’s like pulling our mother in the direction of the kindergarten with an even stronger desire and aspiration than her own.

Question: How can we maintain the right intention and thoughts during and after the convention?

Answer: During the course of these hours, we will realize the necessary preparation, and then at various times you will go back to it. I highly recommend this. What happened here will remain with you and you will feel the importance of it.

Whether you want to or not, life in the near future will awaken you to such a degree that you won’t be able to forget what we discussed here. If you work toward correction, the message of the convention will come forth as a positive sensation. And if you neglect this goal, you’ll experience a negative sensation.

So don’t worry, you won’t forget. I no longer worry about my students running off. The kind of life that awaits us will quickly force us to get back to business. After all, we’ve entered a stage of correction of the entire world. You can delay it on your part, but if you don’t wish to take independent action, the Light will put the kind of pressure on you that will arouse your desire.

I hope that you will become afraid of the big blows and that it will oblige you to move forward without awaiting painful pricks from behind. I say this in all seriousness. I want you to run from the blows and that’s why I put things so harshly.

The Light raises us to faith above reason. But to enter there, a higher, previously unknown dimension should be open within you, and that is why it is called the “salvation of the Creator.” And to the extent of that opening within, you first start to get the “reason,” “knowledge,” and understanding what “above reason” means.

These two concepts are revealed simultaneously. Prior to that, we are at the level of animal consciousness, as it is said: “Everyone is like a mortal animal.” But a “human” begins from this moment. A human being is the one who rises above reason. We get reason from nature, and “above reason” is what is higher.

The Creator is above reason. The one who gets this opportunity is called a “human,” Adam, meaning “similar to the Creator,” and the wider the gap is between reason and faith above reason, the higher is the level of man.

A person does not know in advance what faith above reason is. He has no control over its revelation: It is given from Above, as aid from the Creator. Although of course, this is a result of the person’s entire previous effort and requires completing them fully. But as to when this will happen, a person does not know.

He just feels that he advances: understands more, feels more, becomes smarter, can somehow control what is happening, and analyze it deeper. But he does not have a spiritual sensation, a new desire, in which he could understand and feel the Creator. And thus he advances until he reaches the starting, zero, point, and from it, slightly pushes forward, towards that higher dimension.

Baal HaSulam, The Study of the Ten Sefirot, Part 1,“Table of Answers for the Meaning of the Words,” Question 47: What is Kav (line)? Kav indicates a discernment of up and down that was not there before. It also designates a much frailer He’arah (emanation) than before.

“A line” is a feeling of constraint. I feel lesser than someone who is above me. Besides, a line is the restriction of my receiving, according to “size” and “weight.” That is, I am limited by two conditions: the qualitative height of the degree I am at and its quantitative value that I can uncover and accept.

It’s a feeling that above me, there is another whole staircase, higher degrees and more exalted properties. On the other hand, I feel that I do not receive infinitely on every side, but am limited and can communicate with the Creator only in the form of a direct channel, a tube extending from the top down, which is called a “line.”

In other words, we should visualize not a geometric line, but rather the restrictions that the desire to enjoy experiences. All the concepts have to be translated into feelings. But there is no emotion in the shape of a line. A line is an agreed upon signal of what feeling I am supposed to evoke in myself.

Suppose I work at a factory or in an organization. And in my position on the job and in the place that I am in, I am under the whole hierarchy of chiefs more essential than I. And so, I feel beneath them in properties. Moreover, there is a difference in their ability to act or get all sorts of benefits and salary (fulfillment) at work, meaning that relative to them, I am limited in quantitative terms. Therefore, I feel vertical restriction, depending on the height (from upward to downward), as well as a quantitative restriction in this very place (horizontally).

A line indicates a discernment of up and down that was not there before. That is, I feel what it is to be “above” ​​because I have “recollections” of them, the informational data (Reshimot). And so, I can compare it with my current state. I understand the difference between the line above and my position which I currently feel. This yields a restriction on height, that is, with respect to the Creator and compared with His properties.

It also designates a much frailer emanation than before. After all, previously, he was receiving with no limitations at the top (the head) of the line, whereas now, at its end or in the middle, he is restricted in reception.

These are two totally different experiences. The feeling that you are at the bottom of the line is due to the lack of adhesion with the Creator. A sense of how small my ability to receive is due to the lack of the ability to bestow. This means that one limitation is qualitative and the other quantitative.

The only way we can come closer to observing the principle of love thy neighbor is under the condition of mutual guarantee. And to reach it, we need to follow Kabbalists’ advice to the point; otherwise we won’t succeed.

Baal HaSulam writes in one of his letters that if a person even slightly deviates from the right path, the further he goes along, the greater his deviation and mistake becomes. It’s in this way that he completely deviates from the direction towards the goal, although he doesn’t feel that he has wandered from the path because he deviates from it a little bit at a time. But in the end, all these deviations add up and become one big, bitter mistake.

This is why the people who decide to go towards this goal must have an order, a charter. It is as Rabash writes: “We have gathered here to establish a society…” And the principle is for everyone to connect with the purpose of annulling oneself before the rest, above all the obstacles and disturbances that come from Above, the upper force, whether we see it or not.

Everything comes from Malchut of the world of Infinity where we are all connected: the Light and the vessel. All the desires and the Lights exist in the world of Infinity in absolute unity and adhesion, in the initial state created by the Creator, or the state of final correction (State 1 and State 3). However, we feel as if we exist in the intermediate state (State 2), either somewhere along the spiritual ladder or even beneath it, on its very last degree called “our world.”

This is why everything that happens to us comes from Malchut of the world of Infinity. That is the only place we must turn to for help—the form where we exist as one man with one heart, full of revelation of the Creator, the Light, according to our similarity to Him.

And the rule of “Love thy neighbor as thyself” is the law of existence of the collective soul which exists in the world of Infinity. This is why this law really is a “great, general rule” or, as Rabbi Akiva has said, a huge vessel for all the infinite Light that becomes revealed in it.

Baal HaSulam, The Study of the Ten Sefirot, Part 1,“Table of Answers for the Meaning of the Words,” Question 48: Who is “near” (Karov)? The closer one’s Tzura (form) [desires] is to another, the closer they are considered to be.

Distance and closeness are evaluated only according to the equivalence of form, the correspondence of properties. But the correspondence of properties does not mean that I am identical to Him. After all, I cannot change anything within myself. But depending upon how I use my properties, desires, and how similar they become to how the other uses his or hers, we measure our closeness accordingly.

One can be very big, while the other very small. But if the one who is small desires to acquire the same shape as the big one, he is viewed as someone who is close to the latter, who cleaves to him and is situated in his hands or inside of him. All of these are different degrees of connection between spiritual objects (Partzufim).

One can be found inside the other if he completely cancels himself and agrees to allow the upper one to work on him all the time, while the former just needs to find the strength to renounce himself. This state is the most familiar to us and is regarded as “embryo.” It is the stage of initial ascent to higher spiritual degrees.

Once he is born, it might seem that now that he is outside: It’s not such a strong bond, like the one that existed inside. But being on the outside, he supplements the connection that he had inside with his egoism which is now corrected. And so, although he is no longer an embryo but a “small” child (Katan) sitting in the adult’s arms, he cleaves to him evermore. His seeming existence apart from the big one is only the external form. But this difference shows us the corrected ego which can exist even outside of the upper one, and yet remain attached to him.

The third form is when he is no longer in a state of “feeding” (Yenika) in the upper one’s arms, in a small state (Katnut), but transitions into adulthood (Gadlut) and stands next to the adult. And then he already has his own “body” and a world. Between them, there is now a distance which does not bind the two by any “umbilical cord” or feeding.

However, all this separation is only in our eyes, while in a spiritual state this means that he has reached an even greater connection, a new form of adhesion. Even existing totally apart from the upper one, he merges with him completely. After all, even all these desires that seem to exist outside of each other are unable to separate them.

These are the stages we go through: embryo, feeding, and maturity. But it all begins with a total self-renunciation, when one struggles to override all obstacles that separate one from the upper one.
