Next Year Will Be A Good Year

Dr. Michael LaitmanAccording to the Hebrew calendar, a new year is approaching. I think that it will be a special year. For the first time ever, the system of mutual guarantee is becoming revealed, and we have to bring it to the world and let them know that this is the system of interconnection that has to be established between people. This is the only way we can advance toward goodness.

For this reason, it will be a good year. After all, the word of goodness will spread around the world and, along with the escalating crisis, will shake people up and lead them to our materials. People will recognize that there’s only one method that can bring good to people on the corporeal level, and most importantly, an enormous, eternal, and absolute benefit in spirituality.

I’m certain that we’re entering a good state. Everything depends upon the balance between the forces of good and evil, and our advancement is wonderful and correct. All we need is to keep getting stronger.

We have to build a strong Internet system of dissemination in all languages so that it will reach all people with all sorts of mentalities. By doing this, we won’t allow any negative force to be revealed in the world. I have a good feeling about this. This is the happy new year that I wish to everyone!

Integral Education Equals Freedom

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: What will integral education give people? What will it build in them?

Answer: Through integral education, I build a correct attitude toward my own qualities and I’m able to use them for the well-being of others. It doesn’t matter what my desires are. I become free and find expression for everything that there is within me. If my intention is directed towards benefiting others, I don’t need to analyze and categorize my qualities as good and bad. I simply use all of them for the sake of good.

This is when I’m truly free. I’m not afraid of my environment, I’m not afraid of myself or the Creator. I can bestow with my qualities and I’m capable of anything. Everything is revealed before me, and the Light of Infinity flows through me.

A Weak Point Becomes A Point Of Freedom

Dr. Michael LaitmanThe still level of nature has existed for billions of years, the vegetative level of nature for hundreds of millions of years, the animate world has been developing for millions of years, and then finally, only 200 to 300 thousand years ago, humans appeared. For a long period of time, humans have been developing the same way as animals. Man was driven by the force of nature that created him and left him no choice. As if involuntary, we went through the still, vegetative, and animate forms of the human level, until we reached the level of human within human.

What is it that separates a human from the preceding level? The difference between a human and an animal is that a human doesn’t act only instinctively, blindly obeying nature. The life of an animal is entirely governed by instincts, which are passed on from generation to generation. Only days after being born, an animal stands up and is ready for an independent existence.

However, a human needs an environment for his growth. If a person is left in the woods, he’ll grow up like a real animal and will only vaguely resemble a human. He won’t speak or walk upright. That is, a person is fully dependent on his environment. The kind of environment he develops in will determine what he will be because his development isn’t programmed definitively in nature, but requires a social implementation.

A person doesn’t possess the instincts necessary to survive. He can’t discern a medicinal plant like a dog can or how to avoid what’s harmful. Unlike an animal, a person can’t act according to inner instinctive programming that would ensure his well-being.

We all know what would happen if we granted freedom to a newborn. An animal is much smarter than a baby; it makes no mistakes, whereas humans make mistakes all the time. That is, an animal is endowed with all necessary instincts, while a person only has the minimum.

On the other hand, an animal can’t learn a lot of things. It only can be trained or tamed. Even after living for hundreds of thousands of years alongside humans, a dog still remains a dog because it acts according to its instincts.

A person doesn’t possess these instincts. He has to acquire a form of behavior from his environment, and precisely as a result of this, he develops. This is why people have achieved such great development in comparison to the animals that have lived alongside them and practically remained unchanged.

In essence, a person used to be an animal as well, but something very important was instilled in him: the ability to develop by means of his environment. If he uses his environment for his development, he can achieve great success.

This is why the still, vegetative, and animate levels have no freedom of choice. A person, on the other hand, can induce additional development through a specific environment, and this constitutes his free will. After all, a person can change his environment and thereby change himself.

For this reason, judgment and higher calculation exist only in regard to a person: Who he is and how he used the opportunities given to him by nature and whether he realized the freedom of will that determines his entire development.

Using The Power Of The Mind To Correct The World

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: You say that we are all connected into one system of desires, thoughts, and intentions, and that by changing them due to the influence of the environment, we don’t only transform ourselves, but the whole world as well. How can our thoughts change nature and the world?

Answer: Karl Marx wrote about the need to treat the power of the mind as a means to influence the world. Technology is a natural resource that can be turned into a tool for human will to dominate nature, or a tool to fulfill man’s will in nature. Technological developments are man-made tools of the human mind, the realization of the power of knowledge.

The realization of the power of knowledge means that the power of the mind is a form of energy that can influence external or material and internal or mental processes. Mind power and knowledge can change matter and thus become the force that changes man’s external and internal nature.

Today, humanity as an integral global system can use the power of the mind and knowledge to change the natural environment in order to dominate both nature and itself. However, we will only succeed in using the power of the mind if we use it as a power to correct the integral global connections between us and change them from egotistic or receiving  to those of bestowal or mutual guarantee.

Fuel The Engine Of Progress

Dr. Michael LaitmanBaal HaSulam, “One Commandment”: There are two parts to the Torah: one concerns man and God; the other concerns man and man. And I call upon you to, at any rate, engage and assume that which concerns man and man since thus you will also learn the part that concerns man and God.

Throughout history we developed under the dictate of nature, the Creator, the informational genes (Reshimot), the program instilled in us. We developed instinctively, by means of different internal urges that appeared in us. Today this phase is coming to an end.

It happens in everyone’s personal life. Today it also happens globally and manifests as an integral global crisis. We don’t know how to manage our lives. Suddenly, all of humanity is discovering that it is losing control of what is happening. Incomprehensible processes are taking place in the world, and we no longer hold the reins.

In the past, we could always do something in order to cope with the situation, but not so today. It gradually transpires that we don’t know how to get along with one another: One person says something, and another doesn’t understand him. We cannot reach any agreement, although we see that without common agreement, even if minimal, we will not survive.

The development under nature’s dictate, when everything was obvious, when we did whatever we felt like and obeyed our inner urges is over. The information genes continue to appear in us, of course, but we don’t know what to do with them and can’t identify the external system in which we live. The world has become a confusing place.

Therefore, the method that explains what to do in these new conditions, what to do with ourselves is being revealed today. However, we don’t feel yet how vital the teaching called the Torah is.

In the past, we used to develop by means of an internal force that constantly operated us and complied with its orders unknowingly. Having no will of our own, we weren’t even the ones who carried them out. We were simply puppets on a string.

Now, these internal manipulations are ceasing gradually. Our internal software as if frozen and doesn’t run anymore. What do the forces of nature want of us? Why have they stopped operating and developing us?

The forces of nature want us to consciously participate in our development from now on. This is the phase we have reached.

But how will we know how to participate in our development correctly? After all, without knowing this we won’t find our bearings in the new reality and as a result, will receive blows. Now we have to complete what Nature used to do.

This is why the method of Kabbalah that shows us the way is being revealed now. It tells us how we should operate in order to internally complete Nature’s orders that used to develop us previously. We can get an impulse for that by connecting with others. It is precisely for this reason that we should seek the connection with others—in order to find the deficiencies and urges for the corrections we have to introduce into the program ourselves.

It is as if we throw wood into the fire and provide the fuel for our development—and thus we advance. The fuel can be either positive or negative. In a furnace, along with the heat of burning wood, there has to be oxygen and a cooling air duct. We, too, should have the two sides of the coin: on one hand, deficiencies, frustrations, and darkness, and on the other, the Light, the connection between us, and a demand for reciprocity.

We have to discover all that in order to create the new component necessary for our development. If we add it, the force of development will change our situation, and our evolution will continue. But if we don’t find the deficiencies, the goals, the frustrations, and the right aspirations, the “wheel of development” will not turn.

Until now, when our participation was not required, the informational genes turned the wheel automatically starting from the shattering of the souls, at the still, vegetative, and animate levels. But now, our participation has become a necessary condition. We must add our desire to the shattered Reshimot so that they will be realized correctly.

The realization consists of two parts: building the vessels and filling them. Building the vessels, as Baal HaSulam says, relates to one’s attitude to other people, while filling the vessels relates to one’s attitude to the Creator. This is what we have to engage in. Of course, we must first think about the vessels and only then about filling them.

This is why it says that the love of the created beings brings to love of the Creator. First, we must care about the right connection between us. Then, our common attribute of bestowal will surely manifest in it and in this attribute, the upper force called “the Creator” will be revealed.

Light The Fire

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: How can I check if I exert myself enough?

Answer: Examine whether you feel energetic and enthusiastic, whether you have a strong desire called yearning for spirituality, in addition to the usual desire. Do you feel that this desire stimulates in you the need to connect to the environment and to advance in it?

Advancement is a result of a stronger connection, bonding with all others. Check whether you see that it is namely the place where you can attain spirituality.

We have to unite to such an extent that from the pressure between us this power of unity will begin to shine. This pressure is created as we work together against our egoism, above which we want to unite. The pressure between these two opposite forces creates a spark that turns on the Light, lights the fire.

I Wish You A Happy New Year

Dr. Michael LaitmanAll our work is opposite to the correction since it is namely to discover the lack of our correction, our opposition to the world of Atzilut. The “inscription” in the book of life that we receive at the beginning of the new year symbolizes that we truly yearned for the world of Atzilut, tried to discover our opposition to it, and showed an earnest desire.

If we yearn to be in the world of Atzilut and discover the corruptions in us, it means that we examine ourselves and desire to get back there (“to repent”) during the period of repentance (Selichot).

Renewal means that we examine ourselves and see how opposite we are to a new beginning. If we yearn for it and, having revealed our opposition, still don’t renounce it or give up, but rather continue until we fully discover our egoistic form that is opposite to the first spiritual degree of Atzilut, then it means that we have completed our “inscription” in the book of life.

This inscription is opposite, it is black letters on a white background. But by this we have discerned our exact form and expressed our great desire to connect to and be absorbed in the white Light. This means that we have passed the period of repentance and reached the beginning of the new year. Then we ask the Creator to end our writing and to “seal” it.

Here we cannot do anything but to wish each other to be inscribed and sealed in the book of life. It is only by the connection between us that we can bring about a happy new year and be signed and sealed in the book of life. A person cannot wish that for himself and ask the Creator to do it for him. We can only wish it for one another and bring the Creator to seal the inscription for each of us.

I Wish Everyone To Reach The Final!

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: What does it mean to give up everything for the sake of the spiritual goal?

Answer: To give up everything for the sake of spirituality is to determine that my goal is to reach bestowal so that only this property will reign in me, to such an extent that my “self” will not be felt anymore. Just as you don’t feel the Creator now, you won’t feel yourself. No matter what happens, no matter if people scold you or what they say about you—nothing external will affect you.

Your ego will grow bigger and bigger, but you will constantly rise above it with your power of bestowal. And then you will resemble the Creator to a certain extent.

You see, we can anger Him as much as we want, and it won’t affect Him. How does He manage to do that? Does the upper force have no mind or feelings? No, it is simply the attribute of love and bestowal that is above everything. “Love will cover all sins!” And if we come to it, this means that we are ready for Rosh Hashanah (the New Year)….

These are very difficult situations, and the faster you advance, the more you fall. It is like in sports: The one who reaches the final is the one who is best prepared to reach the goal. The selection becomes more and more uncompromising, and so fewer and fewer reach the finish line. Therefore, it is no wonder that people fall along the way. It is a pity, but this is the nature of things.

An Entry Permit To The Spiritual World

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: I have an unpleasant feeling that even in a hundred years I will not understand the texts of The Zohar.  What should I do?

Answer: Just as man wanted to “acquire” this whole world in the past, now he wants to acquire all of spirituality. This desire by itself is fine, but the moment such a thought occurs, a person should understand that there is a paradox here: I reach spirituality when I give up everything.

How can I, with my great desire, want spirituality so much and at the same time, give everything up? This is impossible—unless I receive the second force from the environment, the force opposite to my desire to achieve spirituality without any connection to others: “What do I care about them? Who are they? Do they exist at all? I only have to deal with the Creator! And as far as I am concerned, you can all vanish.…” This is what man is like, and everyone who is greater than his friend has greater egoism.

Yet, despite all this I still reach total devotion, whereby I yield to everyone and want only to bestow, to such an extent that I will get nothing from it, and I will not even know that I bestow. This is because the mere thought of bestowal is already a reward. The environment should enable me to do so.

On one hand, there is the cruel, uncontrollable force within me: the desire to enjoy, and as much as possible. I am simply burning with the desire to attain spirituality. On the other, through the group, the Light has to influence me with the opposite attributes. This is called “Aviut (coarseness) of the desire from the bottom and the screen from Above.” And then I will have the vessel (Kli) for the spiritual revelation.

Being Born In Spirituality Without A Cesarean Section

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: Why is the ascent to the first level and the entry into the spiritual world the most difficult thing?

Answer: Childbirth is the most difficult and dangerous act. Today we don’t feel it so acutely anymore since our world has been through many corrections, thanks to the development of medicine in the last century. Before that, however, many women and babies used to die during childbirth. It was very common.

Childbirth is the most difficult act, both in the corporeal world and in the spiritual one. This is why we shouldn’t treat it like in today’s corporeal world, where we’ve become accustomed to relying on doctors and Cesarean sections. We need to understand that it is a matter of life or death, especially when it concerns a developed creature such as a human being.

This is why our spiritual birth is not a simple process. The more refined a creature is, the more difficult it is for it to multiply. The spiritual birth symbolizes the beginning of the spiritual life. It isn’t the continuation of the same earthly life on the same corporeal level. You have to be born on a totally different level!

Now we cannot even imagine what the birth of a new mind and emotion is, of a new consciousness and perception. It is a sensation, a revelation that didn’t exist in you previously! All this is suddenly born, revealed in you; it bursts out from inside in such a way that you didn’t even expect it a moment earlier. Suddenly you discover that it exists, that it can be. Previously you couldn’t even imagine it correctly. This is a true miracle! This is why it is called the miracle of the exodus from Egypt.

Then the process of the development and growth begins. This isn’t such a revolution as birth.

Kabbalsitic sources describe the spiritual birth as a legend about a doe that roams the mountains and meets a snake that bites it where the fetus is supposed to come out. This helps the doe give birth. The story describes the cutting of the “stony heart,” the cruelest egotistic desire that cannot be corrected. Otherwise, it is impossible to be born.

At this point all the opposing external forces in creation come together in order to deliver a new creature that incorporates the two forces (bestowal and receiving). This is a true miracle of the Creator. After all, He is the one Who begets man.
