The Restless Hundred

Dr. Michael LaitmanIn the News (from The Financial Times): “From Mr George Soros and 95 others: Sir, the euro crisis needs a solution, now. The current measures are too little and too late and are precipitating global financial turmoil. The euro is far from perfect, as this crisis has revealed. But the answer is to fix its faults rather than allowing it to undermine and perhaps destroy the global financial system.

“We, concerned Europeans, call upon the governments of the eurozone to agree in principle on the need for a legally binding agreement that would: 1) establish a common treasury that can raise funds for the eurozone as a whole and ensure that member states adhere to fiscal discipline; 2) reinforce common supervision, regulation and deposit insurance within the eurozone; and 3) develop a strategy that will produce both economic convergence and growth because the debt problem cannot be solved without growth.”

My Comment: None of these proposals can be realized in practice because they are based on the previous state of man and society: “an individualist and egoist among his own kind.” And today it is already “an individualist and egoist in the network of mutual guarantee.”

If we do not take into account that the world has become globally dependent and integrally connected, not by our economic and industrial trade ties, but within itself, due to its development, we won’t succeed in anything and will always shoot off target. When solving any personal and common problems, we have to take into account the new conditions and our interdependence.

Europe Is Close To A Full-Blown Banking Crisis

Dr. Michael LaitmanOpinion: (Mohamed A. El-Erian, Pacific Investment Management Co.): “Pacific Investment Management Co.’s Mohamed A. El-Erian said organizations such as the International Monetary Fund need to act with European banks at risk of being engulfed in the region’s sovereign-debt crisis.

“‘We’re getting close to a full-blown banking crisis in Europe’ … ‘We are in a synchronized global slowdown. There’s very little confidence in economic policy making both in Europe and the U.S.'”

My Comment: Although the participants of the IMF and the World Bank meetings are already disappointed by their own abilities, they do not see any other options. What’s needed for them to hear us? I think it’s the voice of the people. When the available funds for solving the crisis run out, protests will begin in the developed countries of Europe and the United States. The revolution will take place in people’s mind: They will understand that they face the problem “above themselves,” which they cannot solve, and then they will hear the voice of the Mutual Guarantee movement.

Protesters Against The Wall Street Accused Of Anti-Americanism

In the News (from CBS News): “Republican presidential candidate Herman Cain accused anti-Wall Street protesters of playing the ‘victim card’ – and suggested that those participating in protests nationwide against corporate greed and a lack of jobs are merely doing so out of ‘jealousy.’

“Cain argued that the recent protests against the financial sector were ‘anti-American,’ and that they were meant to be ‘a distraction’ from the Obama administration’s ‘failed policies.’

“‘The free market system and capitalism are two of the things that have allowed this nation and this economy to become the biggest in the world,’ he added. ‘Even though we have our challenges, I believe that the protests are more anti-capitalism and anti-free market than anything else.’

“Fellow GOP presidential hopeful Newt Gingrich… pointed to the protests as an example of ‘class warfare’ waged by the president against the wealthy.

“The former House Speaker blamed a recent ‘hostility to free enterprise’ on America’s educational system. …  ‘And I regard the Wall Street protesters as a natural outcome of a bad education system teaching them really dumb ideas.’”

The Crisis Sums Up The Results Of Globalization

Opinion: (Vladimir Yakunin, Founding President of the World Public Forum Dialogue of Civilizations, Ninth Annual Session): “Globalization has turned out to be the next stage of colonization policies of the major world powers, with the civilizational crisis, the exit of which is in an open dialogue, based on the desire of all the nations for justice, not manipulation.

Globalization: a new phase of colonialism

“The ‘mondialism’ of the European version as a global project of creating a commonwealth of nations, collapsed after the World War II alongside with the disintegration of the colonial system. This project was replaced by ‘Globalization,’ which brought about such instruments as ‘democracy,’ ‘human rights,’ and ‘finance and market economy.’ Meanwhile, the globalization project, that advanced on the basis of the Euro-Atlantic consensus, creation of transnational finance and market institutions and the ‘efficient’ consumerist economy, constituted the third stage of colonization. It was preceded by the second stage, marked by the transfer of a substantial share of industry to the third countries in pursuit of cheap labour and access to natural resources.

The threats of unipolarity

“Political elites of many countries have long since put up with the fact that international politics has de facto become some internal affair, or even a private matter, for the USA. The States, now as before, are trying to adjust the regional structure of the world to their benchmark.

“The ideology of the European identity domination and the western worldview is backed by the system of human rights supported by legal procedures. But such a system of human rights cannot be considered universal and is incompatible with concepts of human rights in other civilizations.

“Globalization in this form leads to the creation of differences within the world system. We approach complete indifference to anything in the world with the exception of bank notes.

Dialogue instead of manipulation in the network

“The contemporary world is witnessing the emergence of a broad social environment, primarily due to the spread of Internet and social networks, international communications and contacts. Meanwhile, we are witnessing rather a strange phenomenon: the very fact of communication is here, but such contacts do not carry any social content, that is, they lack a well-defined social responsibility and allow for any form of abnormal behavior, the attempts to delegitimize authority, cultural values and traditions.

“The universal urge to have the “freedom” to say “anything and in any form” has a temporary character and is beginning to fade away.

“Such technologies as the so-called “twitter revolutions” are applied to achieve definite political and economic goals. This virtual tool is all the more dangerous, because it is not only capable of producing a selective and arbitrary impact on human behavior and cause large-scale conflicts in society, but, as we can see, can cause casualties in real life.

“You are aware of our point of view: it is real participation in the affairs of the world community, which is only possible in the framework of a direct dialogue and does not depend on any trigger signals.”

The War For Peace

Dr. Michael LaitmanIn the News (From Vedomosti.ru): “Analysts talk of a global revolutionary wave. Riots have swept not only Greece, which threatens to default, but more affluent countries. In the USA, the protests have spread to many cities. Online communities for the organization of the actions emerged in dozens of cities. Activists from Canada and Australia are joining the protest.

“Calgary, Vancouver, Ottawa, Toronto, and Montreal are going to join the 99 percent of people who are struggling for survival, while 1 percent of the wealthy continue to prosper. …Protests are held under the new scheme: They do not have organizers; participants learn about the place and time of a protest action through social networks or through the website occupytogether.org.

“The crisis inevitably leads to the escalation of protest movements, but the feature of the current protests is their re-export. It is the first global wave of revolution: The protests began in Western Europe and the USA, have spread to the periphery, the Arab countries, but now are returning. Today’s protests could become a trigger for change.”

My Comment: Humanity is becoming a single community, and its inner connections guarantee the transfer of desires and thoughts among all people, up to full unification into a single organism. This is the law of evolution of human society. The one who understands this trend of nature and goes along with it will win. Opponents of this natural process will only lose.

If governments do not understand this, people will suffer, but the change will still happen. It is better not to resist, but to study nature, as Kabbalah suggests, to study the laws of mutual guarantee (Arvut), of new relationships of humanity as one body, and follow them. Otherwise, protests will force to do this but by bloody methods because the laws of nature are relentless.

The End Of Resistance

Dr. Michael LaitmanWe are individualists, egoists by nature. We can unite in cities, nations, and countries, but uniting as a country is an unnatural process. Russia is one example; there are other nations that eventually fell apart.

There needs to be a connection between people like in a family, where mutual love, children, and property unites and preserves it. This is an instinctive connection based on the fear that I may become ill and will need help and support. My children demand something from me, taking advantage of my natural love for them, and I must take care of them.

The same instinctive connection exists in a nation. Of course it’s much weaker than in a family unit, but it still exists and is also maintained by a mutual dependence, fear, the need for support, a feeling of security, safety, and so on because we all live in an egoistic world.

We are still able to coexist and somehow agree on our mutual problems, desires, and goals within the boundaries of a nation. We understand that we must be connected because we somehow agree inside our country, but there are many enemies on the outside.

But it is much harder for different nations and countries to come to an agreement. This is usually referred to as a temporary union where each side finds something for its own benefit, and once it succeeds in getting what it wants, it drops the rest. And this is considered to be normal in international politics.

Interestingly, a special new condition is unfolding today: Families break, and a multitude of political parties and movements appear in a nation. They contradict each other, are ready to destroy each other, and have more problems with each other than with people from other nations. We find ourselves so connected with people who are outside of us: other countries, nations, continents, and civilizations that we simply must find a way to mutual cooperation.

The Other Side Of The Crisis

Demanding Bread And Education

Dr. Michael LaitmanOur main objective right now isn’t to erase the differences between the richest and the poorest layers of the population. This is the goal for the future.

Right now, we face two urgent issues: The first is to raise everyone’s standard of living above the poverty line, and the second is to oblige everyone to learn about mutual guarantee, the new world, the new economy, the new relationships between people, and the changes that nature is obliging us to make. A university that will teach these things must be built, and studying there must be obligatory, just as it’s obligatory for children to obtain a secondary school education.

I consider these two conditions to be essential. After all, it is written: “If there is no flour, there is no Torah.” But on the other hand, if there is no Torah (the knowledge of the new world), there is no flour. For this reason, people must be educated and given flour, meaning the necessary income. For now, this is all that needs to be done.

I’m often asked what practical advice can be given to a person that has suffered enough and is ready to accept mutual guarantee. How can such a person enter into a new world? This is only possible by gradually educating a person. We can’t just wake up tomorrow and, by some miracle, be in a new world. Everything begins with a person’s inner correction. He has to learn to change by means of studying and through his environment. If many people study, they will come to this state by correcting themselves and influencing one another.

It’s the government’s duty, first and foremost, to provide the nation with the flour and with education. The nation has to demand that the government elevates everyone above the poverty level and educates everyone in the spirit of mutual guarantee. Without these two things, we won’t be able to go forward.

I don’t know where the government will find the necessary funding. The government could take it from the rich or begin saving for it by cutting back on their government officials, it’s up to them. Let’s calculate how much money is needed. It may not be such a large sum. One way or another, the government must provide the nation with the necessities. It won’t be able to play with people as has been done in the past, so it would be better to begin planning ahead of time.

I don’t think it should be an unrealistic amount of money. They should calculate it and figure out whose taxes should be raised and whose should be lowered. There may be a need for a new tax for everyone, except for those below the poverty line. This must be done. How could it be that there are people that don’t have enough for food?

It’s also necessary to teach people, through television programs or workshops, how to manage a household. No matter what their income, people can’t live thoughtlessly and do whatever they want. People have to learn to manage their means. Quite often, people don’t know how to do this.

There are specialists, scientists, economists, and psychologists who can explain how to properly manage money. If one has a certain amount of money for a family to live on for a month, these specialists can calculate how much could be spent and on what. There is an entire academic discipline called family and consumer sciences.

People will listen and become inspired gradually; they will suddenly gain a different attitude toward life. After all, people don’t think too much about what will happen to them tomorrow. We don’t feel it, and we aren’t taught this. Our schools are so removed from real life that they don’t teach the necessary things such as how to treat people, your future husband, wife, and children or how to manage a household so that there would be enough money for the month. All these things must be learned.

125 Degrees Of Our Mutual Guarantee

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: How can the mutual guarantee be used as a coefficient in a formula? Is it really possible to measure human relations: 50% or 75% of mutual guarantee?

Answer: Of course relationships can be measured: There are 125 degrees of mutual guarantee (the same 125 spiritual degrees of which you have probably already heard). Everything can be measured precisely because according to the way that a person relates to others, every soul consists of Rosh–Toch–Sof (head, inner part of the body, and limbs), and here are parts that he restricts and parts that he uses partially, half, or quarter way.

There is no problem with measuring the mutual guarantee in spirituality—it corresponds to your degree. And are you are asking how we should evaluate the mutual guarantee in the economics of our world? Mutual guarantee does not and cannot exist in our world. The first degree of mutual guarantee is a spiritual degree.

Right now we are in a transitional period called “the time of preparation,” preparing for the entrance into the spiritual world. When I say that the mutual guarantee needs to be entered as a coefficient into the economic formula, I mean that the entire problem with the breaking and the crisis we are now experiencing is the fact that we lack one parameter from a higher degree. And when we acquire it, we reach peace, fulfillment, and balance for a certain time. And after  each time, we will feel like we have lost this balance—the lack of mutual guarantee and economic instability.

This will keep happening on every new degree, until we reach a state when every person suffices with the necessities needed for living, which he himself will determine. At the same time, every person will give the maximum to the extent of his abilities, and he will also determine this maximum himself. This is how corrected everything will be.

But if a person has not yet reached this state, the desires that he is not yet able to work with are being guarded. And this protection is not imposed by his forces since he is not yet capable of it; it is done through the environment, which pressures him. Baal HaSulam explains that the society of the future will be evaluating how much every person needs as well as encourage people by giving them medals, influencing people with encouragement or judgment.

Cursory Thoughts On Shamati, “What Is The Day Of The Lord And The Night Of The Lord In The Work”

Dr. Michael LaitmanIt is said: “The darkness will shine like the Light.” There is no day or night in our inner work. The Light shines in everything and fills the entire Malchut of Infinity. We exist in an ocean of Light. How can there be night?…

We have no day or night in spirituality, but we feel various changes in our states. It is necessary to discern these changes. Perhaps these are my days and nights that I feel in my egoism, when a day means that I have earned and conquered, while a night shows that I’m not that lucky. Meanwhile, the Creator’s day and night are opposite. For Him a day is a possibility to bestow, love, fill, and connect, while a night, on the contrary, is a lack of forces of bestowal and love.

Hence, we always have to discern in what we exist: in the darkness of the night or in the light of the day, mine or the Creator’s, and try to remain in the correct definition.

Crisis And Resolution

Dr. Michael LaitmanThere are disorders taking place everywhere, including menacing cases that become expressed spontaneously and uncontrollably, and no one can predict the outcome of what is happening. Just like the crisis itself, its waves are rolling over everyone and no one is left in peace. The rich are forced to help the poor, while the poor manipulate the rich’s dependence on them….

Every economist in the world has his own opinion about the reasons for the economic crisis that is taking place. But we are forgetting that the crisis is not economic, but pertains to all of civilization: There is not one area of human activity that is not undergoing a crisis.

The crisis is happening in all of the social systems we have created: healthcare, public assistance, marriage and family, education and upbringing…. Undoubtedly, everyone started paying attention to the crisis when it became being expressed in the economic and financial realm because our survival depends on this directly. But to reveal its causes, we have to examine it as a whole, as a crisis of civilization.

The reason for the crisis is just one thing: every day, the world is becoming more interconnected and interdependent from within, by nature, and therefore, every day it is becoming more and more opposite to the external connections and culture that we have imposed on it in the form of separate countries, societies, opposing systems, and so forth. Precisely the difference between the world’s unity, which grows bigger every day, and the culture of separation we have created, is the crisis that is growing worse.

We are incapable of stopping the expression of the world’s inner globality and integrality. This is coming from its original nature, which we are unable to influence.

We also cannot observe the constantly growing opposition between the world’s inner structure, where its unity is being revealed, and the external one, humanity, where its divisions and contradictions are being expressed. This is evoking a multifaceted crisis inside of us.

The only solution to the problem of the developing crisis, our growing opposition to nature, lies in all of humanity’s gradual attainment of unity, mutual guarantee, and balance between humanity and nature, reasonable consumption. However, this contradicts our egoistic nature and therefore it is possible only when the environment exerts a wholesome, positive influence on every person.

For that, it is necessary to form a new social, personal consciousness that can be attained through universal global education and upbringing about the global, integral connection among all people that is being expressed in the world. To achieve this, every country has to decide to form an environment around its society, a setting for educational influence.

Creating a mass media system that involves scientists and experts who explain the new, global world, its new social laws, the need to follow them for the sake of survival, is the educational part. Creating large virtual and non-virtual connections that will pull people in, give them an example of unification and joy in it, is the part of upbringing.

Undoubtedly, by taking the first steps in this direction, we will immediately and clearly feel the crisis receding.
