We Have No Other Mission

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: Why is so much time and effort spent on these questions regarding corporeal life, that is, economic and world crises? As a beginner to the study of Kabbalah, this seems like a contradiction to what we are being told in the beginner classes regarding the “spiritual” and “corporeal” life. Can you provide some clarification, please?

Answer: The single purpose of our existence in this world of imaginary reality felt in the property “to receive” is to discover a true reality felt in the property of love and bestowal. To achieve this we are brought to the teacher and the group so that we, in the effort to unite with them into a single whole, would attract upon ourselves the influence of the upper Light and would reveal the world of bestowal.

Today, in addition to the group, the entire world is being revealed as another group. It discovers the harmful egoism within and gradually realizes that egoism is so evil that it wishes to get itself rid of it. Our task is to tell that it’s possible, to explain how it can be done—not by studying Kabbalah, but our world as a global, integral, and closed system, which is becoming a single whole more and more, as well as to instruct them on how we can build a society of mutual guarantee that would correspond to it.

If we assist them, we grow because we do not have any other mission. Baal HaSulam writes about it in the articles “The Giving of the Torah,” “Mutual Guarantee,” and others.

World Hunger Help Is Failing

Dr. Michael LaitmanIn the News (from Euronews): “Painfully hungry every day – the latest World Disasters Report takes a hard look at why nearly a billion people live like this, when there is enough food being produced to feed everyone.

“The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) says further that more people are going hungry in cities and in high-income countries.

“The Disasters Report says the first of the UN Millennium Development Goals probably will not be achieved by 2015: that is halving the proportion of people suffering from extreme hunger and poverty.

“The underfed now number some 925 million worldwide, according to the UN’s Food and Agriculture Organisation. Three million under-fives die from not getting enough to eat every year.

“Undernutrition stunts the growth of an estimated 178 million children under the age of five. The handicap begins from conception — while the infant is still inside the mother — when she is not adequately fed. And of all the world’s undernourished people, six out of ten are female.

“The causes of food crises, the IFRC report says, include speculation and global market fluctuation affecting prices.”

My Comment: The reason is a lack of mutual guarantee and responsibility, a lack of community feeling of everyone on Earth, that is, our egoism, or rather the fact that without fighting it and in spite of it, we do not build a connection between us—the screen that would connect us and in which we would discover the property of bestowal, the property of Nature. Achieving this property would give us strength and ability to establish a fair connection and distribution, and everyone would have everything in abundance.

Do Not Separate, But Unite

Dr. Michael LaitmanOpinion (George Soros, billionaire investor): ”Europe’s debt crisis risks triggering another Great Depression unless euro zone leaders adopt a series of radical policy measures, including the creation of a common treasury.

“‘There is no alternative but to give birth to the missing ingredient: a European treasury with the power to tax and therefore to borrow.’

“‘The German public still thinks that it has a choice about whether to support the euro or to abandon it. That is a mistake,’ he writes.

“‘The euro exists and the assets and liabilities of the financial system are so intermingled on the basis of a common currency that a breakdown of the euro would cause a meltdown beyond the capacity of the authorities to contain.’

“‘The longer it takes for the German public to realize this, the heavier the price they and the rest of the world will have to pay.'”

My Comment: It is not a solution because all the problems are revealed to us only to force us to unite into a single whole. Soros proposes not the correction of society, which is what nature requires from us, but the elimination of nature’s pressure. In this case, we will get more pressure, in the form of a greater crisis (perhaps in a different place and form).

Australia Warns Europe Not To ‘Muck’ About

In the News: “The inability of European leading countries to find the way out of economic crisis seems to have become irritating even to the places most remote from the Old World. The official representatives of Australia sharply criticized the EU leaders, accusing them of empty talk and finally called them to take effective measures.” (Source: rg.ru)

“Australia on Monday accused European leaders of ‘mucking’ about for 18 months, and being on a ‘never-ending journey of just seeking to muddle through’ as they struggle to contain eurozone debt issues.

“Treasurer Wayne Swan, who has repeatedly called on Europe to resolve the issue before it damages global growth, said he was frustrated at the pace of efforts and urged a resolution at a meeting set for Wednesday.

“‘This has been going on for 18 months, and it is true that they have been mucking around for 18 months,’ he told ABC Radio.

“‘We do need to see a comprehensive set of plans, and if we don’t see those, we will see a protracted recession in Europe and the obvious implications of that for the rest of the global economy.’

“Swan’s comments were supported by Prime Minister Julia Gillard who warned Europe had been ‘living beyond its means’ and had so far only adopted half-hearted measures to address structural issues.

“‘For the sake of the global economy they need to get this fixed,’ she told The Australian newspaper.

“‘What the fix looks like is in the first instance a matter for them. But it must be fixed.'” (Source: business.inquirer.com)

UN Experts Predict A Rise In Youth Unemployment

Dr. Michael LaitmanIn the News (from the International Labour Organization (ILO)): “The International Labour Organization (ILO) has warned of a ‘scarred’ generation of young workers facing a dangerous mix of high unemployment, increased inactivity and precarious work in developed countries, as well as persistently high working poverty in the developing world.

“The ‘Global Employment Trends for Youth: 2011 Update‘ says the ‘bad luck of the generation entering the labour market in the years of the Great Recession brings not only current discomfort from unemployment, under-employment and the stress of social hazards associated with joblessness and prolonged inactivity, but also possible longer term consequences in terms of lower future wages and distrust of the political and economic system.’

“Between 2008 and 2009, the number of unemployed youth increased by an unprecedented 4.5 million worldwide. This remarkable increase is better visualized when compared to the average increase of the pre-crisis period (1997-2007) of less than 100,000 persons per year.

“The report notes that this collective frustration among youth has been a contributing factor to protest movements around the world this year, as it becomes increasingly difficult for young people to find anything other than part-time and temporary work.”

My Comment: Why wouldn’t ILO initiate a new attitude to work, introduce universal training in the new social conditions of all workers in terms of their working hours, and thus create additional workplaces? Everyone who works half of his time would be busy studying the global integral interdependence of humanity and the new methods of human interaction.

This will create completely different conditions in the world. The vacant working time will allow hiring unemployed people and thereby solve both problems: unemployment and correct human behavior in a new integrally connected world.

People Will Have A Need For Each Other

Dr. Michael LaitmanOpinion: (Li Edelkoort, one of the world’s most renowned trend forecasters): “‘The end of an era of individualism has come,’ says Li Edelkoort. The world’s foremost trend forecaster studies the links among design, art, fashion and consumer culture to see what kind of effect they have will have on our lives. Two to three years down the road, ‘we will rely on each other to network and collaborate… functioning within a group, without losing personal traits and talents.’” (Source: wgsn.com)

“This could radically change politics, economy, army, police, government, and big business. The pyramid of power is about to collapse; now, it will not be a pyramid, but rather a building with a terrace. People will have a natural need for each other.” (Source: lookatme.ru)

My Comment: The emergence of such views in recent years has become a trend. This brings joy and gives confidence that the vision of the future in the unity of people is becoming closer.

What Initiates Revolutions?

Dr. Michael LaitmanDoomed to submit to society, we go through our entire lives so that others will profit at our expense. At the end of the day, they don’t gain anything from this. They are unhappy in their own way since they too are within this cycle.

But today a system of general interconnection is being revealed to us, and it exposes all the problems of the previous, egoistic system. The gap created as a result of this will lead to serious tumults that are greater than those we see today.

People will begin to understand that the entire current system is built in such a way that it just “sucks the blood” from them every single moment. We are all exposed to the constant, psychological manipulation of the big egoists, “the great of this world.” And by the way, they are also in line for manipulation by the general system, but at a different level of hierarchy.

I am worried that eventually this revelation will result in an outburst of feelings and that from then on, we will move towards fraternal wars and a world war. A revolution begins when a person’s eyes open up: It turns out that he is taken advantage of unjustly, and without his agreement. He can not accept that. He senses the disclosure of the “snake” that sucks his veins in a very shrewd way; he feels that his “I,” his ego, his honor, is injured. He is ready to do anything in order to destroy this “poisonous snake,” even if it costs him his life.

I hope that we go in a different direction because this way has great suffering awaiting us. We need to discover everything is the Creator’s Light. We must attract the Light that Reforms, and it will show us how to arrange everything.

And as to the “explosion” scenario, we must take it to those who have power and influence so that they will see what may happen if things go wrong. Then they will want to participate in the dissemination of the knowledge of mutual guarantee and the education of people. However in any case, this integral education roots in our inner force, and it will drip like an infusion into the circulatory system of the world.

The Solution To The Crisis Is The Revelation Of The Light

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: How do we connect the structure of the universe we are studying with the development of the current crisis?

Answer: Malchut of the world of Infinity has divided into an enormous number of separate egoistic pieces, which now must acquire their common structure.

How do they do it? We do not know and cannot know this structure—it is very complicated. Eventually it will become revealed to us. But there is an enormous number of connections between us, and we have to “restore” these connections. We restore them when we work with one another, disseminate, and unite.

This is exactly what we have to do. This is our objective, and this is what the wisdom of Kabbalah speaks of.

The current crisis, on one hand, is the revelation of the system of the common interconnection (colored red in the drawing), but on the other, it is the demonstration of the fact that we are egoists and do not wish to be connected with one another. Every one of us is a separate egoist.

So what do we do? The crisis appears because we are separate egoists, but the actual system is altruistic. Where can we hide from each other? Nowhere. No props will help us fix this crisis now, even though in Europe they have been thinking a lot about finding a solution. But they are not able to think of anything because the only thing that can be done is to restore an integrated system of connections between us. We will not be able to achieve anything without restoring it.

The entire problem is for the upper Light to start operating between us, and we could open the path for it through ourselves towards one another. This is called mutual guarantee. I reveal the Light for you, you for me, and thus we reveal it for one another, until the Light fills the entire volume of the world of Infinity.

Today we are in the beginning of the path. We must do all of this together. This is what the wisdom of Kabbalah exists for. This is why we go out to the streets and try explaining this to people.

The extent to which they will join us will make it easier for us to open all leaves and valves on the path of the upper Light. I hope that in this way we will quickly come closer to solving the crisis. We have a medicine, a remedy for it. We simply need to fully reveal it for us and the others and start using it.

Good luck to you in this. I hope instead of seeing the light at the end of the tunnel, we will feel it going through us.

Prepare For The World Of Equal Distribution Of Income

Opinion: (Boaz Schwartz, Managing Director at Deutsche Bank in Israel, from globes.co.il): “’We should not underestimate strong social feelings, which we see in Israel and around the world, and which will have a big impact in the coming years. We must prepare for the world of a new social concept, equal distribution of income, and equal prices. There will be continuing pressure on companies in terms of determining prices, which will affect profitability. Countries that are not wise enough to make the appropriate changes will be in poor condition; their economy will suffer.’”

The Financial Crisis Has Drained The World’s Strength

Dr. Michael LaitmanIn the News (from the World Economic Forum’s Global Risks 2011, Sixth Edition): “The financial crisis has drained the world’s capacity for dealing with shocks. The frequency and severity of risks to global stability have amplified, while the ability of global governance systems to deal with them has not. These are the conclusions of the World Economic Forum’s Global Risks 2011, launched [on 12 January 2011]…

“Global Risks 2011 concludes that three key clusters of risk are creating significant liabilities for the coming decade:

“Macroeconomic risks: the global financial crisis was built on longer term structural weaknesses in the global economy. Macroeconomic imbalances, fiscal crises in the developed economies, massive unfunded social liabilities and weak financial markets form a complex nexus of economic risk.

“The illegal economy: greater numbers of failed and fragile states, increasing levels of illicit trade, organized crime and corruption form a nexus of criminal risk. A networked world, governance failures and economic disparity create opportunities for illegality to flourish.

“Resource limits to growth: the world faces hard limits at the most basic level in terms of water, food and energy. Rising populations and consumption and climate change drive this challenge, while interconnections between these issues make response difficult.

“‘Twentieth century systems are failing to manage 21st century risks; we need new networked systems to identify and address global risks before they become global crises,’ said Robert Greenhill, Managing Director and Chief Business Officer at the World Economic Forum.

“The interconnectedness and complexity of issues mean that unintended consequences abound, and traditional risk response mechanisms often simply shift risk to other stakeholders or parts of society.”

My Comment: Studies show that we exist in the new system of social relations. We are not able to understand this system, let alone manage it. But in this case, our future is unpredictable, and we do not know what to do every moment. That is why it’s better for us not to act at all until we learn this system.

However, during the time that elapsed since the beginning of the crisis (the Club of Rome became aware of it in the 1960s), we haven’t understood the nature of the changes in our world and society. We feel more and more like the blind in an unknown space. We lack the senses to understand the new network of relationships between different parts of the world and society.

We define this new system of relationships as global and interconnected, but we ourselves were not created in such a system and do not fit it internally. The reason is that we cannot understand the new world, let alone manage it. By inertia, we want to apply the laws of the old world to the new world.

The laws of the new world are the laws of mutual guarantee. They are known to us from Kabbalah. That is why it is revealed in our times. Until the world gets familiar with these laws, the crisis will go on….
