Generation Net: The Youngsters Prefer Their Virtual Lives To The Real World

Dr. Michael LaitmanIn the News (from Daily Mail): “Children are often happier with their online lives than they are with reality, a survey has revealed.

“They say they can be exactly who they want to be – and as soon as something is no longer fun they can simply hit the quit button.

“Around 47 per cent of children said they behaved differently online than they did in their normal lives with many claiming it made them feel more powerful and confident.

“[Psychotherapist Peter Bradley said:] ‘These findings suggest that children see cyberspace as detachable from the real world and a place where they explore parts of their behaviour and personality that they possibly would not show in real life. We can’t allow cyberworlds to be happier places than our real communities, otherwise we are creating a generation of young people not functioning adequately in our society.’

“‘We were alarmed by the number of risks being taken by teenagers whilst online,’ he said. ‘Safe online behaviour is taught in schools, but teenagers seem to be unable to relate the risks to themselves.’”

My Comment: Development cannot be stopped, and thus only by correcting a person can we make cyberspace useful. Everything rests on the integral upbringing.

In general, humanity is in transition to virtual space. It is moving away from the carriers of physical sensations, energy, and information and entering the space of forces and qualities. Matter will gradually lose its firmness in our sensations until it disappears as an illusion.

The Protesters Will Pay For The Protests

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: The social protest organizers in Israel are planning to start a new wave of protest in the summer, which will be much stronger than the previous one. The profit the elites are making at our expense is really annoying.

Answer: This is true, but where is the solution? The protesters have no solution. All of this has been done before, and we know what the results were. As long as they continue to operate in the egoistic system, such attempts only make the situation worse.

Given the current circumstances, it’s impossible to fulfill the demands of the protesters. There is the army, there are the health and the education systems, there are sectors that receive state funding, and in the framework of the democratic consensus there isn’t much room for games. There are laws in this country.

“What laws!” Let’s take several billion shekels and throw them from one place to another,” you scream. The problem is that everyone has an opinion of his own. We shout slogans in the streets, put up signs, but you can’t change the political system, the national budget.

“We should take money from those people!” you are saying. But how? After all, there are laws and the legislators sit in the parliament. So go into politics or at least into lobbying and start changing things. But when you start a revolution, you are destroying what’s there already and things become even worse. No revolution will ever lead to any good as long as we are in the same egoistic system. There are endless examples of that: Cuba, Russia, Korea, and more.

You are destroying the system that more or less reflects the structure of society. Despite the ego, despite the lies and deception, the voters and the elected match one another. Social pressure may bring down the price of gas by ten agorot, but you won’t actually be able to really change anything here.

Even if you bring millions out to the streets, it won’t help. The only real possible outcome may be the destruction of the state. This is actually what they want, and this can be achieved, but not the correction. Correction is possible only by the Light that Reforms. Magnates and revolutionaries have nothing to do with it.

I am against this approach because it lacks any kind of order. Do you want to change the situation? Go into politics. Do you want to change things? Go to the parliament and change the laws. But instead, you are suggesting to accumulate power and to destroy what already exists. This isn’t building, and it has never led to anything good anywhere.

Mass protests won’t help in any way. They will only cost the state billions, and the masses that demand those billions will be the ones who will have to pay for them, while the leaders will “ride the wave” and find their place in the parliament. Ultimately, it is nothing more than a political game.

Question: But in the meantime people are suffering. How can we help them?

Answer: Imagine Baal HaSulam who saw what was going on during World War II. What was he able to do?

You are asking: Why aren’t we doing anything when people are suffering? The body is suffering. We don’t understand this calculation, and there is no way we can ease this suffering. On the contrary, such attempts only prolong the suffering.

We are trying to “draw” people to prolonged pain instead of a disaster, but nothing more than that. A person must come to the recognition of evil.

On one hand, these protests do hasten the development in some way, but on the other, this hastening is not by the Light that Reforms, and so it costs us dearly. It will bring about many troubles and will weaken our state and society.

We have to do our work. Only unity and connection can help us because they correspond to the Light and draw it. Only as a result of that will we bring about changes for the better.

No other means will help any state. The attempts to solve the problems at the expense of others are worthless. A few cosmetic changes can be made, but on the whole, all the governments are the same. They all speak about the good and don’t mention the bad, and no one will change anything, except for the impression they make on the public. After all, they are all puppets, and as it says: “The hearts of ministers and kings are in the Creator’s hands.”

We have to draw the Light that Reforms. Only the Light can bring about any changes. By the unity among us we will continue to develop. Therefore we say to people that mutual guarantee is the solution to all our problems.

Europe: Towards Integration

Dr. Michael LaitmanOpinion: (German Chancellor Angela Merkel): “Merkel called for further political integration within the European Union as a means to ending the sovereign-debt crisis. ‘The task of our generation now is to complete the economic and currency union in Europe and, step by step, create a political union,’ Merkel said in an hour-long speech to more than 1,000 CDU delegates. ‘It’s time for a breakthrough to a new Europe.’”

My Comment: If they go for at least partial integration, they will win and then realize that integration should be complete!

Dr. Michael LaitmanIn the News (from rg.ru): “The experts of ‘Strategy 2020’ [a yearly report prepared by a number of expert groups] propose to reduce social inequality and poverty by distributing food stamps to the poor, increasing benefits for children from low-income families, and implementing the program of the guaranteed minimum income.”

My Comment: This condition is necessary but not sufficient since it does not eliminate the cause of inequality but only smooths it out and hides it. The correct decision is to raise everyone to the level of guaranteed reasonable consumption.

But equality could be achieved only through re-education in the system of integral upbringing, when people become convinced that by striving towards unity, they begin to sense perfection and higher harmony of nature.

Dr. Michael LaitmanOpinion (Oleg Deripaska, chief executive of Russian aluminum producer United Co. Rusal): “Oleg Deripaska … said three generations of Europeans will pay for the mistakes and inertia of their past and current policy makers, with no single politician seemingly willing to risk his or her popularity to address key problems.

“In healthier economic times, Mr. Deripaska said, governments and politicians won public support by being extremely generous with social benefits. Unable to continue this now, few governments are willing to make the tough decisions necessary to lift their countries, and gradually the region, out of the downturn.”

My Comment: He is right, but how would he act if he were in the place of those politicians?

The World Is Experiencing Not An Economic But An Ideological Crisis

Opinion (from AgoraVox): The crisis, which the world is experiencing today, is not financial, but a system crisis; it undermines the whole system of capitalism as an ideology, which espouses the notion that the sum of individual interests matches the collective interests.

“This system no longer works. That is why all the economists of the world cannot do anything about it. And that is why it is absolutely in vain to expect the return of economic growth, jobs, and profitability.

“What can follow capitalism? We need to build a new ideology and solve other problems, concerning the social life of human beings: Is money so necessary, what is democracy, what are the real needs of people, and so on?

“Nations do not need economists with their empty calculations, but a new ideology that will be able to create all conditions for a dignified life, regardless of the birthplace or social status. A life free from poverty is what all people need. And capitalism is simply unable to give that to them.

Forget About Equality And Justice

Dr. Michael LaitmanThere cannot be equality and justice in our world since we are not equal to begin with. So why do we have complaints about different people if nature itself made us so different? Why do we aspire for equality if it is against nature?

One percent of the rich control 35% of total wealth. 10% of humanity is composed of geniuses, the hardworking, and the talented, and it has always been that way! Regardless of geographical location, no more than 20% of people are wealthy. This phenomenon is known as “the Pareto principle.” In addition, even within the upper 20% of society there is the upper 20%, and so on. Ultimately, whoever is on the top of society has the greatest control and is most influential. It is only natural that this phenomenon is contrary to the “average” scale of the Gaussian distribution.

We shouldn’t think that it is a result of our egoism; rather, we should understand that we don’t create this relationship by ourselves, but receive it from nature. It is the same in the spiritual Partzuf (the soul), where a tiny amount (we also say 20%, as Rabash coined it, although it is much less than that) goes to the filling (Toch of the Partzuf), and all the rest remains empty (Sof of the Partzuf), to such an extent that instead of a circle we only fill a thin line (Kav Ein Sof).

But in that line, according to the level of the connection of individuals, a process of integration begins (groups), and then on the “beastly” level everyone receives according to their reasonable needs, while all the upper fulfillment takes place in the collective desire. Therefore, the question of control and distribution never comes up!

But in our world it is naïve to demand equality and justice because inequality and  injustice are predetermined by nature, in order to force us to rise, in order for us to correct this natural inequality on the “human” level.

Will Europe Reunite?

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: What is Europe’s role in the correction of the world?

Answer: Europe has a very important role in the correction of the world. I am very happy with the news about the growing integration in Europe. Just recently there were talks about disintegrating the EU and about throwing Greece and other countries out. But today it turns out that it is impossible to separate. The Europeans examined the situation and discovered that the disintegration of the Union would lead to total collapse.

So they are already speaking about building Europe similarly to the US, with a federal government for all. And all this is happening in Europe where nations dislike each other even today.

This is how the upper Light conveys the idea of integration to us, and although they are not too thrilled about it, they are making a new plan from hopelessness. I have been writing about this in my blog for several years, and now the unification of Europe may actually be realized.

Now that they have taken this new direction, we will see what the trend will be, to what extent they will advance, and what changes it will bring about. The Europeans still need an integral education system, of course, but we may be able to offer it to them because they are already prepared for that in a way. Otherwise, how will they manage to unite in the background of all internal conflicts?

One way or the other, it is a very important change of direction.

Question: How is it possible to hasten the integral upbringing? After all, it takes a long time.

Answer: Ordinary education takes a long time, but not integral upbringing. After all, it is realized in large groups of people who suffer and who immediately receive support from nature. It is enough to perform minor actions towards connection and the corresponding upbringing, and by that you will already be more balanced with nature, at least by one or two percent. In response to that you will certainly begin to feel positive changes.

The moment the process reaches the masses, it will immediately ease the feeling of crisis. After all, the “crisis” is the lack of the connection that we should have reached. This is what creates the negative feeling in the current situation. Therefore, the moment you take the first steps towards connection, the crisis will stop.

Then everything will work out. You will understand how to divide the resources and the services. Crime rates will decrease, people’s health will improve, suddenly you will discover new financial resources, and so on.

So it isn’t only about integral upbringing. After all, because of its lack a person spends great sums of money in order to satisfy his or her needs.

On The Firing Line

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: How do you relate to the missile attacks in the south of Israel?

Answer: During the operation “Peace for the Galilee,” my teacher, Rabash, was very worried about the situation. He listened to the news every hour, and when he was asked why, he replied that he was worried about his children.

This is an example for us—we also need to worry in this way. A person needs to feel that all the people in the world are inseparable parts of him. Then he will worry about them just as he worries about himself, being in concealment and not feeling the oneness of the world within him.

One should not wish for anyone’s death, even for the death of one’s bitter enemies. We want them to become corrected and in general, we wish only good for everyone, and especially to the citizens who find themselves on the firing line. Of course, one shouldn’t allow anyone to take his life away, and thus in the Torah there is a law: For the sake of self defense, it is preferable to kill before being killed. But this is on condition that it’s really necessary and there is no other choice. In this situation, death serves as a correction. However, if you are able to correct the person during this reincarnation, do it.

In addition, we must remember our friends in the South of Israel. Together with them we pass through the process of our and the world’s correction. We must be with them in mind and soul.

Before the lesson, I watch the news in order to know about events that took place in the previous hours. We all need to be connected to this. We hope that all of this will be included into the framework of correction. If we exert effort faster, the states that come upon us by the path of suffering will invert to the path of the Torah. Then everything will be arranged in the best possible way, and we will acquire life without limits, in the entire world. We are able to initiate it, and there is no doubt that the Light can do this.

It’s very good that the friends join the lesson from the shelters. Rabash and myself did the same thing during the Gulf War.

And in general, we are in favor of a cease fire, in favor of ending all the conflicts in the world, in favor of destruction of all weapons, and in favor of man’s correction. This is mutual guarantee. Since we have become, against our will, guarantors of each other in a system that ties us together, the time has come to open our eyes and feel it in action. There is no other choice: We have to feel that we are each other’s guarantors.

However, when the mutual, inner connection appears before a person, he goes into shock. It turns out that it is all me: my parents, my children, my friends, strangers, and those I hate. It is such a huge variety of so many relations, and all of them are me, one Partzuf, the 10 Sefirot.

People: Who Are We?

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: You say that all of our development is meant to raise our consciousness about who we are. So, who are we?

Answer: First of all, we are not animals existing inside of our bodies and only caring about how to fulfill it. Second, we are not simply egoistic creatures obliged to please our ego, which plays us and pushes us toward various false goals, only giving us suffering throughout our whole lives. It is written: “A person dies without having achieved even half of the desired,” meaning that no one is left satisfied about his life and while dying, does not take anything with him. Now, we have arrived at such a state where we are left with nothing, even prior to death.

However, we are creatures who have an absolutely unique potential, and we are located at the very top of nature that created the entire universe and, as a result of this wondrous process, developed life on earth along with us. This is what the goal of human development consists of.

This development, by the good or forceful path, must end with everyone attaining the whole of all-encompassing nature, identifying themselves, and reaching balance and perfect connection with it, which in Kabbalah is called “adhesion.” All of the person’s qualities have to be used for the sake of bestowal, serving the force of bestowal, like all of nature.

Then, we will see where our development has been leading us, in the form that existed before the planet earth was formed and afterward, in the periods of the formation of the still, vegetative, and animate nature and then the development of man. All of these forms up until today, when we have begun to enter the new world, the world of bestowal, all of the past development in our egoism, in the world of consumption where we search only for how to receive more, all of it was only preparation for the human level that we now have to develop within ourselves.
