Let’s Open the Path for the Light

715The source of the upper Light created a point of desire “from nothing,” began to develop it with His pressure, until it reached the state called the world of infinity. In this state the point is no longer a point but a sphere filled with the light that created it, and it performs a restriction (Tzimtzum Aleph), and expels the light from itself. We are under this restriction.

The condition of the first restriction is very simple: above there is light, pleasure, perfection, eternity— everything, and below there is desire, darkness, emptiness—nothing! And between them lies the boundary of the first restriction (Tzimtzum Aleph), a condition that can never be revoked. If the desire (Kli) is not similar to the light, this gap remains between them.

That is, you will not feel anything except what you feel now. And this is called an unconscious spiritual state or “this world.” This is the smallest measure of life that we are today, below any awareness, in darkness, as if in an imagined reality and in the deepest sleep that could possibly exist.

Once I saw a science fiction film about how people were placed into some capsules with a special liquid to be sent into space over distances of thousands of light years. And they slept, each in his capsule, until they arrived at another planet and began to awaken there. It is in a similar state that we find ourselves in now, asleep, cut off from true reality!

The condition by which I can receive the light is the intention for the sake of bestowal. The desire to be filled, to enjoy, does not change, only the “for what,” the “why,” the “meaning” changes.

If I want to receive the light, the fulfillment, for myself with the intention for myself, egoistically, against the condition of Tzimtzum Aleph, this is called receiving “from above downward.”

If I want to receive the light (in both cases I only receive, since within me there is only the desire to receive, and only the intention, the condition of reception, changes), but with the intention to bring pleasure to the one who gives to me, then this is called receiving “from below upward.”

Only in such a case will the light, the revelation of the upper world, fill me. It is not clear to us how one can receive the upper light from below upward; what is meant is that you return pleasure to the giver. This condition opens the path for the light! Fulfill this condition and the entire world of infinity is yours!

Loving to the Extreme!

531.03Question: Is it true that if we didn’t do harm to others, we wouldn’t get sick?

Answer: Of course! There would be no illnesses, nothing. That is the root of everything.

Question: At the same time, you say that with our nature, it is also impossible to do good to another?

Answer: Impossible.

Question: Then please, lead us out of this dead end. What should we do?

Answer: Well, let us dream a little.

Suppose we invented a virus that would somehow “bite” all of us, and we would begin to feel that we are all the closest of relatives. Like brothers and sisters who simply feel themselves as one whole.

Comment: Meaning, we ourselves can’t do anything, but if a virus came…

My Response: Maybe we can at least want it a little. That is our main task.

For this first we must see who we are today and not deny the bad that exists, not reconcile with it. We need to try to understand that there can be an absolutely opposite quality. Because in nature, all qualities exist in pairs, opposite to one another.

If we truly desire it, then this inversion might happen to us.

Question: But it must happen?

Answer: I think yes. Because nature always manifests itself in two opposite qualities. Therefore, I think that after our current state, when we reach the breaking point, as they say, there will be a reversal, a kind of phase shift.

Comment: And we will begin to understand that everything was created by love and must lead to love.

My Response: It will happen above us, that is, outside of us. It will act upon us in such a way that we will change, become absolutely opposite, loving to the extreme.

What to Do If You Don’t Want Anything

626People understand that they cannot find the meaning of life in marriage. They cannot find the meaning of life in work either.

Comment: And, it seems, not in friendship either.

My Response: And in friendship, of course. Meaning—nowhere. So what is the point? I’m lying in bed, why should I get up? There is no reason, simply no reason to move, to think, to speak, to do anything at all. That is how a kind of world-freezing happens.

Comment: And today, more and more so.

My Response: Yes, of course.

So what is the point? It is only if we reveal the meaning of life, which is above this state. And if at least somehow, we can talk about it, show it, and shake people up, stir them. Otherwise, of course, it will all end with someone eventually starting to sell pills that put you to sleep forever.

And people will buy them. Oh yes, they will! They will happily throw them in their mouths, wash them down with a glass of water, lie down peacefully, and that is it. And what happens to them afterward, what difference does it make?

Comment: But that sounds illogical. If a person feels really bad, in theory he should be looking for how to…

My Response: But what can he do if he sees no way out? What is there to live for?!

Comment: In connection, at least in some kind of connection with someone else, some kind at all?

My Response: That exists. So they gather in some clubs. But in general, even that comes to an end.

Question: That isn’t a solution, you’re sure?

Answer: No, of course not.

Question: So not until a person breaks through to the meaning of life. Is such a breakthrough happening, and that is why this trend is here?

Answer: Yes, a person must break through such a barrier, which is absolute unwillingness toward anything at all. And only afterward does one discover a completely different life. In a certain sense it is death. After crossing this boundary, one discovers that there is life, but it is different, and now I can begin to exist in it.

Question: So you’re saying that a person really must go through death in order to start living?

Answer: He must understand, agree, and want to renounce this life, the egoistic life, the chasing after something and somehow. When he agrees to that in some form, it can be done in different forms, then he will be ready for the next life.

Question: What is your advice to a lonely person who is so lonely that his soul aches with despair?

Answer: My advice is to go to our website and read. Nothing else. Truly, I really don’t want to say this, but I have nothing else to suggest.

How to Attract the Upper Force?

939.02Question: You said that we have the possibility of attracting the force that will correct us.

But we study that this force comes by itself and gives us the possibility to raise MAN, to make certain actions. How can we attract it?

Answer: What is required from us are clarifications, which is what we must do besides study, and how to be interconnected with one another so that our forces will join and strengthen. This is what we must study and realize.

Question: How do we check whether our intention is directed to ourselves or for the sake of bestowal?

Answer: Keep checking and constantly ask yourself this question, and you will see how it will gradually be revealed within you.

When the Desire Changes

234Question: When a person corrects quality of receiving something with the intention “for the sake of bestowal,” is it possible that he might come to a feeling of discomfort that the Creator had to carry out such a procedure?

Answer: No, there is no such thing. Don’t make it up.

When the desire in a person changes, he sees the whole reality through his new desire, and no questions remain in him, he fully agrees with it.

281.02Question: In order to correct the state of shame, the Creator placed us in such a distant world where we don’t even feel that He is the source of life. How can we feel and imagine what life is from the perspective of the spiritual world?

Answer: Gradually, we will feel it. For now, try to think about it as much as possible and strive to feel it.

Question: What clothes the action with the intention “for the sake of giving contentment to the Creator” when we want to hold on to the fact that we wish to do it for Him?

Answer: Your intention, that which you think about, is what causes this action within you.

Question: Is the feeling of shame some kind of safeguard against “not yearning to receive eternal delight”?

Answer: Yes.

Question: What should we do if we discover in the ten that we do not feel the Creator? What practical actions can be applied?

Answer: Everything that is prescribed for us in the study of TES (The Study of the Ten Sefirot), we must accept and try to implement in practice.

Question: Should we strive for shame to appear in us, or is it a gift from the Creator?

Answer: Shame is the feeling that you do not correspond to the plans of the Creator.

“To That Which We Do Not Attain, We Do Not Give a Name”

594Question: What does the principle “To that which we do not attain, we do not give a name” mean?

Answer: We do not run ahead and claim to understand what we have not yet attained since it is still in the process of clarification. Any spiritual object or phenomenon is given a name according to its action, according to what it produces in the worlds. If we do not yet know all its consequences precisely, we cannot give it a true name that defines the very essence of the spiritual phenomenon.

Question: What is the name of the Creator? The Creator has many names. What does that mean?

Answer: The name of the Creator is the consequences we feel upon ourselves from His influence. Moreover, a name is a desire filled with light, and by the kind of light that is there, one can determine the name of the Creator. Thus, it turns out that I am the one who gives Him a name.

Comment: We often use names given by others. That is, someone gave the name, and other people use it.

My Response: If a name is given by a Kabbalist who has truly determined the designation of an object or phenomenon, then in studying the material we use it.

If Youth Only Knew, If Old Age Only Could

571.03Question: Many of your students use their material qualities for the dissemination of Kabbalah. They are told that first they must rise out of their egoistic attitude, but they don’t want to listen to anyone. What should be done about this?

Answer: In Kabbalah, as in our world, this is called the suffering of parents: “If youth only knew, if old age only could.” You can’t do anything with such a person except try to educate him as much as possible. But, in principle, everything depends on him.

You give the students what you can, you soften and accelerate their development, but nothing more than that. And then, gradually, they begin to absorb it.

To this day, I am nourished by what I went through with my teacher during twelve years of being by his side. Education is when you give a student the beginning of a connection with you, and then through this connection between souls—whether on the level of our world or from world to world, it doesn’t matter—his further development takes place.

We must look not at bodily interactions within the framework of this world, but at the fact that we exist in the system of souls, and everything happens there.
