When Envy Comes to the Rescue

528.02When we ask for our future state, we mean that goodness should manifest above our current egoism because we feel the ego as distance, rejection, and the impossibility of a good connection with each other, and good means good for the other, not for me.

When we imagine the future state, we see how much we cannot match it. I am not able to wish something good for another. I do not have this nature.

And then I have the only opportunity to change myself—to turn to the Creator in order to become a giver instead of a receiver and to think about others. But I cannot do that because it is like asking a stone to become a tree, and a tree to become an animal, and an animal to become a human. It is impossible! This is an ascent to a completely different stage of existence. How can I ask for it?

Here some selfish elements come to our aid: envy, passion, and vanity.

Envy is when I look at others and see that they succeed, that they gain a higher level, a higher state, but I do not. I was created in such a way that I envy. Even if these states are states of giving, loving, and including others in myself, I still envy them because these states come to me from the corrected system of Adam, which was created before his split.

But we have a group. If we develop a system of our connection in it, then despite our desire to remain single-minded, we will nevertheless connect with each other, break ourselves, strive by force toward an artificial union, and—at least not sensorially, but mechanically—get closer to each other.

Envy is especially important in this because with its help I install myself into others; I want what they have.
