A Lever to Turn Yourself Upside Down

219.04Can I egoistically wish to love others, and egoistically care for them? Yes, I can.

If I see that a person who cares for others receives respect, attention, and honor from them, then I have a feeling of envy. And it is very strong because it belittles my current state and says: “You are worthless. Look how he is respected, loved, and appreciated; what attention they give him. And you?”

And then, in spite of everything, I am ready to make an effort so that I too will develop the quality of bestowal. If a person is respected for this, then I am ready to bestow.

We are willing to work in our world for attention and recognition because they elevate us and please our ego. Here a certain lever appears, which is also egoistic, but it is a lever with which I can turn myself upside down.

This is precisely how we can advance.
