A Station With Infinite Energy

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: Where do you get the energy for your inner work if you always have to keep the Creator concealed?

Answer: The energy comes from the Creator through the group. There is no other source of energy besides Him, and the group is the channel for it.

In the group, the energy or Light is expressed as a result of unity or similarity to the Creator. The Creator is present inside the unity of friends.

If you organize your work correctly, then you will understand that the Creator and the group are the same thing. The group is the model that enables you to reveal the inner force contained in it, called the Creator.

There is a source of energy, but you have to plug into it. The energy can only be consumed by a contactor (a socket) that is similar and opposite. The force of the energy’s flow depends on the thickness of contact in the group.

Through the group, I receive examples from the Creator. I start to see the group and its structure as the system of the worlds. Inside it I reveal the connections of the souls in the Upper Worlds.

The inner force of the group, which enlivens and sustains it is the Creator, the Upper Light.

The Spiritual Reference Point

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: If we are advancing in the darkness, then how can we orient ourselves in order to go through all the phases of spiritual work and reach the understanding that we have exhausted all our efforts so we can then ask the Creator to help us?

Answer: We do not see the Creator and cannot play with Him the way a child plays with an adult. Instead of showing Himself to us, the Creator made a playing field for us: the group of friends. For this reason, He deliberately broke the soul he created into parts. This wasn’t done so we would relate to each separate part, but so we would relate to the unity of the parts as to Him. In this way, we make the Kli similar to the Light and go from love for the creatures to love for the Creator.

Therefore, in relation to the group (but not to separate friends), I have to separate myself from all the material calculations and see "myself, the group and the Creator as one whole." I should check my state and attitude to the Creator by my attitude and state in the group. I don’t see the Creator, but I do see the friends! By concealing Himself, the Creator gives me the opportunity to build myself and become independent and equal to Him.

I desire to hit the target that hides behind the horizon, and this is possible if I have a visible reference point. If I correctly aim at it, then I will definitely hit the unseen target. This reference point for attaining the goal, the Creator, is the group which the Creator artificially created for us (and out of us) by giving us the illusion that we hate each other.

To the degree we unite, we "hit" Him more and more precisely. If we unite precisely in order to find Him, then this is the right kind of work.

Making Our Way Toward The Creator

Dr. Michael LaitmanThe only way to check the spiritual states is to check your connection with the group. In order to give us the opportunity to develop in the group correctly, the Creator lets us feel the presence of a higher force, but He Himself remains concealed so we would create a model of Him inside our unity.

By repeatedly revealing and concealing Himself, He awakens us to feel a need to reveal Him precisely from His concealment in the point of our unity. I cannot see the Creator in advance the way I would see any goal in this world. By concealing Himself, the Creator gives us the opportunity to build His image by analyzing the qualities of "myself and the group" the same as, "myself and the Creator."

We discern and evaluate these qualities as we make our way towards Him by feeling around and forming something that is a mystery even to our own selves. Gradually, as we form the spiritual system inside us, we use our desire and the force of the Creator, the Light. Thus, we create the image of the Creator out of them.

Because we create Him inside us from darkness without a visible example that we could copy, we come to reveal, understand, and perceive Him. That is how we truly become equal to Him.

All of the obstacles we receive, which are cruel in their wisdom are lessons which the Creator has planned for us like an instructor who enlightens his disciple. We are building an inner system of governing by bestowal: the system of the screen and the Reflected Light. Precisely the reflection enables us to become similar to the Creator and to adopt the same qualities.

That is how a person gradually becomes human – similar to the Creator.

What Lies Beyond The Horizon?

Dr. Michael LaitmanAt first Nukva does not have a desire to receive the Light because it is just a point in relation to Zeir Anpin (it is behind Zeir Anpin’s chest). But then Nukva starts to grow and to receive the Light in order to build its desires (vessels, Kli). The Light comes from Zeir Anpin to Nukva, and thus Nukva builds itself up by virtue of its connection with Zeir Anpin.

They connect “back to back,” at which time Nukva goes through its formation, the formation of its screen or the forms of bestowal that Zeir Anpin teaches it. By adopting these forms, Nukva acquires more desire and force and is then able to become befitting and similar to Zeir Anpin. Nukva becomes Zeir Anpin‘s “wife,” and they (creation and the Creator) unite “face to face” where she receives fulfillment from Him.

However, creation can never become the Creator. It has to become similar and equal to Him! One thing cannot become another; it can only become similar to it. This is sufficient, and we don’t have a need for anything more!

We don’t know what will happen afterward, after the final correction, Gmar Tikkun. Right now it’s impossible for anyone to imagine this. Possibly, when we get there we will reveal completely new possibilities, similar to how a person in our world is now suddenly beginning to reveal the spiritual world, making this entire world of ours seem like a tiny grain of sand compared to the spiritual universe that is opening up before him.

That is how enormous the spiritual world appears to a person in his impressions, sensations, fulfillments, and attainments. It’s as if a person is born anew and perceives everything that happened to him in the past as nothingness. It’s even smaller than a drop of semen compared to a grown-up person because that drop belongs to the same material world and it already contains all of the information about the future person; all it has to do is develop. In contrast, something completely new is born in the spiritual world. The spiritual world means a new perception of reality where instead of perceiving egoistically, inside oneself, a person comes out of himself and perceives on the outside.

Perhaps after the end of correction, we will break through to another dimension, which we cannot imagine right now in any way. We can’t even imagine the spiritual world even though we have all kinds of tools to perceive it, including the Torah, religion, and Kabbalistic texts. However, there is absolutely no evidence of what will happen after the end of correction. Kabbalists do not say even one word to give us a hint about this. They only tell us about the path of correction, but no one talks about what will happen after we become equal to the Creator.

The Zohar strictly confines our research to just the matter and the form clothed in matter. We cannot ask about the abstract form and the essence because we do not have the instruments with which to research them in order to receive the answer.

Connecting The Creator And The Created Being

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: What does a Kabbalist who has reached the final correction feel?

Answer: In the state of the final correction (Gmar Tikkun), enormous changes are constantly taking place. A soul exists in ascent and descent “simultaneously” since it feels these two opposite states as identical, as one. The two extremes are united in the soul as one whole because a person has corrected his perception of them and feels them as one occurrence.

However, as we ascend to the World of Infinity, “transitions” from emptiness to fulfillment do not cease to exist, but instead turn into a comparison of the Creator’s initial opposite acts: “existence from existence” and “existence from absence” (Yesh Mi Yesh Ve Yesh Mi Ain). And I, a human being, unite them within myself, adding to the Creator’s act.

This is what dictates the necessity of creating man: He needs to unite these opposites in himself and discover “existence from existence” out of “existence from absence,” that is, reveal the Creator.

"Special Effects" On The Path

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: Let’s say a person is on the path of spiritual attainment and is studying Kabbalah. He is surrounded by the world where all kinds of things are happening. Yet you say it doesn’t matter; we should keep following the path and not get disturbed for these are merely “special effects” to divert us from the main destination. But why, if a person doesn’t fall for it and keeps going toward the goal, are these “special effects” still necessary?

Answer: They are needed for you to work them out: to rise above them and unite with the goal. These “special effects” and all that is created in the world are to aim you at the destination, lift you up, make your trajectory sharper, and hasten it. They are there to aim you at the goal at a greater precision and promote your advancement toward it.

Question cont.: What about the situation where someone puts a knife at my throat? Should I just tell him: “I am sorry, but I am in a hurry: I have a Kabbalah lesson to attend”? You say that you fear nothing and neither should we because everything is for our best, isn’t it?

Answer: Yes, it is done solely for this purpose. A person can feel it when he is working on himself in order to try to build within himself the image of the Creator. He sees that all these images that are being created by him, for him, within him, and outside of him, are solely for him to correctly assemble the image of the Creator within. And the image of the Creator is His qualities; it’s not a picture, but a character, where the character is the property of bestowal and love.

The Ladder Leading To The Creator

Dr. Michael LaitmanIf we desire to unite in order to reveal the Creator, then the various forms and phases of our connection comprise all the steps of the ladder we have to go through. This ladder starts in our world, in the state of separation between us, and continues until the state of total unity called the “World of Infinity.”

All of the science of Kabbalah (or all of the Torah) speaks only about how to reveal the 125 degrees of unity among us. Therefore, if each of us prepares to unite with everyone into one whole while reading The Book of Zohar and desires to reveal the Creator (the form that our unity takes) inside this unity, then our aspiration is called: “Israel (those who aspire to the Creator), the Torah, and the Creator are one.” In that case we really open up The Book of Zohar in order to attain the goal.

Between Darkness And Light

Dr. Michael LaitmanA person needs the force of the Torah in order to reveal himself and reality in relation to the Creator. Being close to the Creator means being similar to Him, to the quality of bestowal and love. This quality becomes revealed to a person through his attitude to the neighbor, meaning to someone who is close to him by having the same goal in life. This is the right criterion for self-analysis and measuring your attitude to the Creator.

The goal (closeness to the Creator, revelation of the Creator, and unity with Him) is attained in two stages:

  1. A person’s qualities become revealed as evil because they don’t allow him to attain the goal.
  2. The force of correction, the Light, is revealed inside the unity between people who aspire to the goal. Then the evil inclination, man’s nature, helps him to unite with the Creator.

At first the flaws of egoism (Klipot) seem like great obstacles. However, as we advance we discover the ability to transform them into goodness. They all become our point of independence (Klipat Noga), which enables us to grow.

On the right side we have the Creator, and on the left side Klipa. We form ourselves out of both of them, creating our independent form of similarity to the Creator. When the force of the Light and the force of the darkness connect to each other correctly, they give rise to the form of Adam, a human being, in us. The human being in us is the degree of our similarity to the Creator.

Everything is done by the Light. It reveals the force of the evil inclination in us, as well as its own force in order to develop egoism. As a result, we reveal their single Source, the Creator, and the distinction between good and evil or Light and darkness disappears. All forces and qualities form the image of the only reality, the Source.

This constitutes all of the science of Kabbalah: the revelation of the Creator to the creatures, or rather, inside the creatures.

How Can We Scream So We’ll Be Heard?

Dr. Michael LaitmanWhat we are creating between us is interconnection, interdependence, mutual guarantee, love, and a definite necessity to be together. This is the connection (or the "place") we have to create so that inside it we will reveal the Creator who hides from us. He will speak to us from this place we create, "the tent of revelation."

Without having this communication system between us and the Creator, we are just crying out into empty space. We can only turn to the image that we form through our connection: the Creator’s Temple.

It is written that love for the Creator can only be attained through love for others. That is why we are building a spiritual system of mutual guarantee and mutual support among us. Its purpose is to reveal the Creator.

Therefore, our primary necessity is to work on building the group. The first condition for receiving the Torah, the Light of Correction at the foot of Mount Sinai (the state of revealing mutual hatred) was the impossibility yet the willingness to bond together as one man with one heart, and to work on this unity by the principle, "we shall do and we shall hear."

No matter how small our willingness to do this, if we have it, then we have a common point, a "window" through which we can turn to the Creator. This common point is already Malchut of the World of Atzilut, the Shechina.

That is how we should understand the preparation for the reception of the Torah.

The Pyramid Of Unity

Dr. Michael LaitmanAs we rise from the point of this world (the lowest point where the sensation of spirituality fades) to the uppermost point of the World of Infinity (where everything is corrected and revealed), we all go through the same stages. However, everyone goes through them according to the root of his or her soul or “according to their taste.”

In our world, we all feel one common world with the same senses. However, our qualities exist in a unique combination in every single person. Therefore, the picture of the world that arises in each person is also completely unique. It depends on the individual combination of his qualities that come from the root of his soul.

Nevertheless, we all climb the same rungs of the same spiritual ladder. Thus, there is one science for all concerning the revelation of a higher life: the science of Kabbalah. It explains to each person how he has to advance.

Everything we read about in The Zohar concerns our advanced states which everyone will have to go through. To the extent that we desire to feel them, we draw the force (the Light or Ohr Makif) from these degrees, and it develops us. As much as we exert our “baby” effort, we grow, develop, and ascend.

It is essential for us to rouse the influence of our advanced states upon us. Therefore, the second and much more important aspect in our approach to reading The Book of Zohar is to understand that ascent implies unification. We climb a “pyramid” or a “cone” to the extent that we unite in our points in the heart.

Therefore, all 125 degrees of the ladder from our world to complete perfection are 125 degrees of unification of desires until they merge completely in the quality of absolute bestowal. This means that the more we unite, the higher we rise, and to the extent that we connect, the quality of bestowal (the Creator) is revealed between us. As much as we are able to unite, we reveal the measure of unification between us, and this determines the measure of revelation of the quality of bestowal or the Creator.

Therefore, when we read The Book of Zohar, we wish to be in this state, and we await its manifestation within us and between us.
