The Book of Zohar, Chapter “Shlah Lecha (Send for Yourself)” Item 17: And the scouts sent by Moses caused lamentation in the coming generations because on that day the First and the Second Temples were destroyed, and they brought about the loss of many thousands and tens of thousands among Israel. And they became the reason for the departure of Shechina from the land and from the people of Israel. And it is said about those who were sent by Joshua: “He will return the soul of his Lord.”
The source of destruction in all generations, meaning on all stages of corruption and corrections, is a person’s decision not to follow the spiritual path because of fear, laziness, disregard, or lack of desire. “This is good, but it’s not for me,” as the scouts said when they came back from the land of Israel. This is the source of all woes.
A question arises: But misfortunes happened prior to that as well, in Egypt and before Moses sent “the scouts to the land of Israel?” This is correct, but we are talking about the final battle for the land of Israel when the scouts said: “True, it’s good there, but it’s not for us.”
This point is very important. Essentially, a person exists in it all the time. Every time we correct precisely this root, by making a decision that it’s not only good, but it’s also for me. But what is good? It’s bestowal. This is what the scouts were afraid of: “Can we even reach bestowal? I am opposite to it. Is it what I want?! I can say from a distance that bestowal is good. But can I get closer to it, reach it? I don’t have any energy or need.…” This way we reject it on various levels.
This is the very place of correction. This means that in every moment of our life we exist in this crucial point where we have to correct “the sin of the scouts.”

Question: How do we prepare internally before going out to disseminate externally?
Answer: We must aspire to unity above all differences and chasms between us. I perceive certain people as completely antagonistic, others as hating me, and still others as distant in terms of their worldview, beliefs, and sensations. But I put a restriction on all of these feelings; I don’t use any of my negative responses. Instead, I want to build a feeling of connection and unity above it all.
It is written: “Love will cover all sins.” This means that the negative (–), the ego, all the transgressions, are below, and they are covered from above by the positive (+), which is love.
The difference or discrepancy between us creates a force of resistance and the ability to overcome, or to use Kabbalistic terms, the screen and the Reflected Light. It appears from the opposition of the two poles within me.
That is why we don’t eliminate our ego, but cover it with love. The sin remains—now we merely need to use the method of correction and add a screen.

If we want to advance to the true perception of reality, then it is possible only in our corrected qualities. Indeed, in our current qualities, we feel only this reality in which we are born, live, and die. Again, we are born, live, and die, and this is everything what we have.
If we want to obtain a different, opposite perception of reality, we should acquire the additional properties suitable for this: the quality of giving instead of receiving, and bestowal instead of consumption. Our constant desire is to absorb everything into “ourselves,” but this is only half of nature. The other half is bestowal, the tendency toward the outside.
That is why all of our work is to strive to achieve the second half of nature, to acquire the second force existing in the world. This time is called the period of preparation.
This is where we are now, trying through the group, the study, and various other means to achieve the state where we will obtain the second force of bestowal. Then, using the two forces of reception and bestowal together, we will come to know the entire reality in which we live.
People who have already received this second force of nature and, together with it, have acquired the perception of all of reality, are called Kabbalists. The science itself is called the science of Kabbalah, the science of reception, because a person acquires all of reality, rather than just the tiny part he is able to absorb in his current qualities. Then, as Kabbalists say, a person reaches a state where he rises above the current perception to an eternal, perfect reality.
