My Soul Is In Others

Dr. Michael LaitmanAs Baal HaSulam says in his article “600,000 Souls,” there is actually only one soul, one desire, Malchut of Ein Sof (Infinity). The Light that enters by the Creator is stamped in the desire to receive and this gives it its different qualities but in an opposite form. Then the desire has to rise above its form that is opposite from the Light and resemble it. The oppositeness remains; it actually creates such intensity, such a connection, which enables the desire to enter the Light, to conquer it, and to absorb it. Now there is room for that.

So there is only one desire, and if it comes out differently in words, it is because we attain it in parts, and not even in parts but in tiny grains of self-attainment.

It is like a holographic picture where each of its parts includes all of it (M), but on a smaller scale (m). All the details are kept, but they lose the initial accuracy. There are the first ten Sefirot here, but the clarity is different.

The question is: If there is only one soul, why are we so different from one another? It is because on the whole, in such a case, everything has to be much simpler—the same soul grows smaller and its lines become “blurry.”

But this isn’t what happens—it seems different to everyone, since everyone has the root of his own soul. In other words, we attain the one general soul in different “angles” by our mutual incorporation in everyone.

It is because the point in the heart is actually above the desire to receive, in others. It is the spiritual root of the individual soul, while the desire itself isn’t worth anything by itself. On the other hand the “others” is the same concept for everyone, it is Adam HaRishon (first man). Thus we all attain the same thing but from different perspectives, until they connect. This is done so that we can help one another in attaining the attribute of bestowal.

Now I attribute my soul to the desire to receive, which actually doesn’t exist. My soul is in others, and I have to work outside the desire, outside myself, on “the other side of my skin,” by acquiring an ability to bestow, vessels of bestowal. I take the desire of others and receive MAN (a request for correction) from them, and provide them with what they want, and thereby develop my soul, my inclination, the yearning outward…

Many Sparks, One Soul

Dr. Michael LaitmanOn one hand there are many souls and each of them is divided into more parts. But on the other hand, can spirituality be divided into parts? We know that there is one whole reality and nothing but that. Even when we are confused as we see its separate parts, it is actually one whole since only one state was created from the beginning, one soul.

It is called the soul of Adam HaRishon (first man), Malchut of Ein Sof (Infinity). After the preparation, we discover this inner reality behind the Partzufim and the “worlds” much more clearly. It’s about a desire that is adhered to the Creator. On the root level of adhesion, it is called Malchut of Ein Sof, and on the fourth level of adhesion it is called the soul of Adam HaRishon. It’s all about how we see this desire at a certain point of our development.

So only the world of Ein Sof was created or the soul of Adam HaRishon and nothing else. This soul is in every person called “Israel,” which means Yashar—El (straight to the Creator), who has attained spirituality. What is more, it’s whole in everyone, since spirituality is not divided into sections and parts as we see in corporeality. Only the lack of correction prevents me from seeing the real picture, but I am in it nonetheless, in the initial state of one soul that was prepared for us to reveal.

But Kabbalists say that there are 600,000 souls that are divided into “sparks.” So what does this structure stand for, a “genealogical tree”? This is the distorted picture of reality that is divided by the force of the corrupt desire in each of us. First this desire separates and totally prevents the entrance of the Light, being totally opposite from it. Then, by the force of correction, the desire starts to receive the intention of in order to bestow, or in other words, it is refined. To the extent that it has this intention, the general soul illuminates in it. This means that the desire gradually discovers its real state. First it feels that it’s a small part of the general soul, and finally it discovers that it’s the same as the soul. Then it discovers that it is Adam HaRishon.

Gematria Is The Language Of Emotions

Dr. Michael LaitmanThe Zohar, “Naso,” Item 180: The blessing of the priests. May the Lord bless you, may the Lord illuminate, may the Lord carry… the blessing it Ha-Va-Ya-H, and they are also the three names of Ha-Va-Ya-H in the blessing of the priests that are parallel to the three lines, the three letters in Ha-Va-Ya-H in the filling of S”G (63) Yod, Hay Vav, Hay. That the three letters Yod of S”G, are the initials of these three Ha-Va-Ya-H.

Kabbalists have a problem. Every science in our world like physics, chemistry, biology, zoology, and botany have a language of their own, but there is no language for emotions since in our world we cannot rate them, measure them, weigh them, or divide them into different types, etc.

When we begin to discover the desire to receive and in it different types of feelings, according to the size of the desire and its type, in three lines, in all the levels of its thickness, we need a language in order to describe how to do it.

Let’s take the writing of musical notes for example; it isn’t a language. I only draw some symbols that someone else has to play and feel, and then he may understand the feelings that I wanted to convey, although for him it may be something else. This is a very big problem.

For the same reason both psychology and psychiatry are not considered exact sciences, since they are based on the little experience, which we can build up during our lifetime and not more than that. It is because we cannot measure feelings in our senses, put them in tables, charts, and graphs so that it would be an iron rule.

Therefore, Kabbalists have invented the recording of spiritual attainment by using Gematria (numerical values of letters and words) and this has really become a very laconic language that can bring together many accurate details, which can be conveyed from one person to another. This is in contrast to musical compositions where everyone can imagine what the composer thought about, while here, you cannot be wrong. In order to develop Gematria, you have to attain and to reach the same place, the same phenomenon, to be incorporated in the same soul that wrote this and then you feel the exact same state since you are united with the soul in adhesion and so you can be sure that you have really received its message.

There Is No Room For Disappointment!

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: What is “a spiritual birth in the desert?” I feel a kind of disappointment from the previous conventions since we reach a special feeling of unity there, and then the fall comes. How can we use this feeling of disappointment as preparation for the convention?

Answer: We have to give birth to our first connection in the desert. This spiritual birth is the first revelation of our connection in the upper system, like a person who is born into the world, into the spiritual world.

Do you know when a person reaches the first level? When he is told: “You won’t get anything” and he is happy about it. So I don’t understand what disappointment is. The spiritual ascent is above all human disappointments; it is a spiritual attainment. You should be happy that you don’t have anything, and what is more, that the others have received everything and you haven’t. This is called being at the entrance to the first level.

So there is no room for disappointment!

A Vessel For The Soul

Dr. Michael LaitmanAccording to the wisdom of Kabbalah, the “body” of the Partzuf is called a desire to receive in order to bestow, and the “soul” is the Light that fills it. In order to acquire a soul, we are building a connection between us, which means that we make a desire to bestow from the desire to receive. In order to do that, we connect with the group above the ego, give up the desire to receive, and turn it into the opposite use; thereby the desire to receive works in order to bestow.

The switch from the ego to bestowal is done by the Creator, I obligate Him to do so by my work in the group, in the environment, like it says: “My sons have defeated me.” He operates on me and then my desire to receive can work in bestowal.

Accordingly, I now treat the friends this way and we establish the connection among us by building forms of bestowal from the thickness of the desire to receive, which turns it into the purity of the desire to bestow.

The desire to receive is divided into five layers of “thickness,” from the root phase to phase four, and there is also a “spiritual embryo” in it, a point in the heart (•) that constantly evokes me, “shakes” me. In order to fulfill the “point in the heart,” I enter the group and summon upon myself the Light that Reforms, the Surrounding Light. First it performs “the first restriction” in me, according to which I cannot take my desire to receive into account. Then I can even work with my desire to receive in order to bestow, not in thickness but in purity, which is also divided into five levels. Accordingly I acquire five Lights: Nefesh, Ruach, Neshama, Haya, and Yechida, from the bottom up NRNHY.

Thus my desire to bestow is formed by the desire to receive that was in me before. This desire to bestow is called “a vessel for the soul.” Why for the soul? Because up to this level we receive the Light regularly, by using the thickness of the root, the first, and the second phases (NRN), while the Lights of Haya and Yechida cannot receive the Light regularly and so they reach us only as an illumination (HY).

So the vessel of the soul is the purity of the desire to bestow, and the Light that fills it is called the Light of Neshama (the soul). On the whole, it is my soul that gradually turns my entire ego to its side, to purity. This means that the desire to receive doesn’t disappear, but we only change our use of it.

How Can We Grasp The Outer World? – Laitman Unplugged

On The Way To Immortality

Dr. Michael LaitmanIt is amazing how our conventions gain power from one to another. There is a need to organize them almost every month! And each of them is greater and more powerful. With respect to quality, the difference between the previous and the next one is amazing: a completely new degree, a new sensation!

There is no countdown; we are always moving forward. We are talking about immortality, entering the next dimension, and we are on our way to it.

Of course, our rate of advancement depends on the entire world, but judging by the speed with which the world moves, it is revealing its final insignificance and failure; I am sure that as a vanguard, we will deserve to enter the upper world to reveal the Creator to the entire world.

Spirituality Does Not Come Because Of Favoritism

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: What is the use of making an effort trying to hasten one’s correction if one’s path is predetermined: all the corrections he has to go through and all his mistakes and transgressions?

Answer: If you don’t make an effort then you will never go through these mistakes and corrections. Suppose you are in the 3rd grade and have to go into 4th grade, but you don’t want to study so you are not allowed to go on to the 4th grade! What happens then? You will be punished and everyone will treat you badly: your parents, the teachers, and the school administration. You will remain in 3rd grade for another year until you complete all your assignments and are ready to go on to the next grade.

Have you gained anything by your laziness? So why do you ask about the benefit of your effort? You can’t go on to the next phase unless you complete the previous phase because the vessel isn’t prepared for it. How can you feel it, how can the next level be fulfilled in you?

It’s impossible to go on to the next spiritual level because of “favoritism.” It’s possible in our world, but not in spirituality. It’s because you don’t have vessels to feel, and you need to develop them by yourself, by the ascents and descents, by being confused and encountering problems, by making wrong decisions, by trying to break through by different nonsense, like a child who learns something.

Otherwise you will not advance. These are the laws of nature, so there will be no tolerance here and no forgiveness. Being tolerant is for someone who makes a mistake because he doesn’t know. This is acceptable only among people, but we are under a clear deterministic process in which every step is predetermined.

It’s impossible to go on to the next stage without completing the previous one first, until you are impressed by it, and acquire knowledge and feeling; until it’s engraved in your memory and you are ready to advance with this experience, until you have put together a vessel in which you now feel all the phenomena. Only then can you move forward.

In our world things don’t happen this way; here people find different detours since they don’t understand their states at all. When the Light comes and illuminates our state, we will understand the reasons why it happens this way and for what reason, the benefit in it, and how to relate to it correctly. Until then we act blindly according to our animal instincts.
