Without Feeling Shame You Get Nowhere

Dr. Michael LaitmanBaal HaSulam, “Matan Torah (The Giving of the Torah),” Item 8: This is because there is a natural law that the receiver feels shame and impatience upon receiving gifts from the giver out of compassion and pity.

From here extends a second law, that never will anyone be able to satisfy the needs of his friend to the fullest, because ultimately he will not be able to give him the nature and the form of self-possession, as only with it is the desired perfection attained.

Actually the Creator can’t cover and compensate for the feeling of shame by Himself, without our participation. We have to go through different stages independently, thus revealing our flaws and correcting them; of course, we use His force in order to perform the correction, but the cycle must be as follows:

– I discover how corrupt I am

– The problem that is revealed is not in me but in my attitude compared to the attitude of the Giver.

– I determine what is flawed with respect to it.

– I look for how to correct the flaw and how to complete it.

– I ask the Creator for the force to correct the flaw.

This means that this action is very complicated and is made of many components; it’s impossible to manage without it. A person has to actually feel it; there is no other choice. He has to feel it and to go through the different states on the way, with the Creator’s help of course, which means with the help of the upper force, the Light. But he has to participate in every stage and in every decision.

It’s impossible to receive a present from someone, to enjoy it, and to feel that it’s yours. There is always the feeling of shame before the giver. In our world the problem is solved by the concealment of the Creator, who thus allows us to reveal Him only to the extent that we can bear the feeling of shame.

The Creator is concealed and the shame is revealed only to the extent that I am ready to resemble Him, to clarify the matter of my receiving. The more I advance, the finer and more sensitive my perception becomes, and then I am ready for the revelation of shame. In some ways it is similar to what happens in our world.

If I Feel Shame, It Means That I Advance

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: Why is shame necessary for our advancement? After all, it is an unpleasant feeling that burns you and seems to belong to the path of suffering?

Answer: Shame is like feeling a certain pain in the body. The pain indicates an illness that needs to be healed. Thanks to the pain, I am saved from death. It is the same with the feeling of shame; it indicates lack of correction somewhere so is it possible to ignore or to annul this feeling?

But we try to escape it. So Kabbalists tell us that we need the help of the group and the books and everything that can support me and help me bear the feeling of shame.

At the same time it isn’t only that I need to bear it, but I also need to get to know it more deeply and to perform acts of correction. The feeling of shame will continue to grow until it obligates you to cry out for help and then you will receive the Light that Reforms that will correct and heal you.

You are not healed if you cry out weakly. There must be a true outcry, a call out to get rid of it, since it isn’t just any illness; it is the correction of the desire to receive, of your nature.

Question: But we always aspire to feel good, how can I aspire to feel shame?

Answer: In order to do that you increase the importance of the goal, by placing it above your pain. You say: “Let it hurt, I don’t want to identify with what hurts and with the pain itself. I want to attain the goal, and thank you very much for the pain, since it focuses me on the goal.”

It all depends on the recognition of the greatness of the goal, the greatness of the Creator. Since the Creator is a desire to bestow, a form of bestowal and concession. To the extent that these values seem great to you, you begin to suffer from your attributes which are opposite from these values. But if you extinguish this gap, and you inject yourself with some “anesthetic,” you prevent yourself from advancing.

This is why you build an environment that will sustain you in the necessary state. As a result, you see your oppositeness from bestowal, you suffer from that, and still you continue to increase the Creator in your eyes. You adhere to Him, you want to adhere to the group, you don’t want to identify with your evil anymore, but not in order to escape it like a kind of pain, but in order to really reach bestowal, in order to really assimilate in the group.

There are many discernments here and they all lead in one direction. So try to understand how wonderfully the feeling of shame guides you if you use it correctly.

The Main Thing – To Strive For Unity

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: What is the correct way to act during the workshops?

Answer: One should act according to Rabash’s writings about the assembly of the group: A person has to lower himself to the group and imagine himself in the assembly of completely corrected people who may not seem so to him as I see them through my egoistic filter as uncorrected to the extent of my corruption.

I have to actively participate in the discussion even if I don’t have anything to say. They will understand and support me.

The main thing is to aspire that the soul will be one whole, to the center of the group, not forgetting that these “ten” in the world, along with all of us, are all united in a spiritual body seeking to reach the first similarity with the Light, the same property, mutual bestowal!

As soon as we reach this level, we sense the fulfillment from the Light, from mutual bestowal, and from connection—we are born as a spiritual object.

Good luck!

An Agreement With The Creator

Clinging To The Creator Without Dissolving In Him

Dr. Michael LaitmanThe Creator is a universal and the most general law of nature. He is called “The Good that does good.”

The law of nature is comprised of numerous parts: inanimate, vegetative, animate, and speaking levels. In general, it’s all about desires to receive, which the Creator strives to satisfy. He wants them feel their absolute best.

What can fulfill them? Nothing less than the state in which the Creator Himself is. Anything less than that cannot be considered “The Good that does good,” since it means that something is missing.

So, the goal of creation is not to “melt” or dissolve in the Creator. On the contrary: The creation has to preserve its identity and at the same time become similar to the Creator.

The ultimate benevolence that the creation can get: “Great! You gave me the best you could; now, I don’t yield to You in anything at all—not in the form, in how I express myself, in the mode of operation, nor in the states I go through.” This is the state that we are supposed to reach.

It is possible for the creation to perceive perfection only if it remains being the creation, meaning something that is opposite to the Creator. At the same time, the creation should become similar to Him without giving away its “autonomy.”

For that, the creation has to experience a state that is opposite to the Creator; it has to stick to this state, meaning internally retaining the evil inclination, maintaining contrary desires, and building a benevolent attitude above them. Only if the creation manages to “keep” both poles, it remains as the creation; but at the same time, it becomes similar to the Creator.

This process has to be implemented in the group, that is, in a small part of the desires that belong to the speaking level, which is called “Israel” It is the group that needs to initiate the process, go through the flaws, and make corrections. After this work is complete, the group has to transfer the results of their work to all of humanity, in its turn, by self-correcting, the human level will eventually modify the animate, vegetative, and inanimate levels. This is the sequence of events to follow.

The Power Of Good Thought Is Breaking Into The World

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: Do our thoughts have real power?

Answer: Of course thoughts have power; it isn’t by chance that there are concepts like the “evil eye” and “good eye.” Our mind power is the most powerful force, even stronger than a nuclear explosion. It’s concealed in the greatest depths, among the forces between the atoms. Mind power is the last level before the spiritual force.

But thoughts become powerful only if they connect, if each of us thinks alone, he does influence the system a bit but only on the corporeal level. However, if we begin to connect in order to reveal the power of general bestowal, we revive and renew; it’s as if we ignite and operate the whole spiritual network of connections among us. Then we discover the Creator within it.

We don’t have to have great mind power, the main thing is the quality of our thought so that it will be correct and help us reveal the force of mutual bestowal among us, which means the Creator. When the Creator is revealed the true intensity is revealed. This is already all the Light of NRNHY and not our small world.

We connect and want to be under the influence of the Creator so that He will reside among us and manage us so that we will be in harmony with Him in synchronized actions. Just as the Creator is a constant state of bestowal, so do we want to constantly be in a state of bestowal, then we revive the general network, and to the extent that we are incorporated in it and connected among us, the Creator is revealed.

It’s an immense power compared to which all the corporeal forces are worthless. All the corporeal world begins to revolve according to this internal power of humanity, everything changes starting from our slightest connection, and the main thing is that the connection is right.

We see that in the past year the term “Arvut – mutual guarantee” has become very popular, it’s because when we gather as a group and connect in thoughts and actions, this mind power breaks into the world. If this term expresses a spiritual action, it influences the whole global network and is accepted by everyone.

How Can You Meet The Invisible One?

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: What is the “Creator?” What is the meaning of His greatness with which I have to impress my friends?

Answer: The Creator is the property of bestowal, love, connection, and the rejection of personal interests. Reaching such properties is the first step on the path towards similarity with the Creator.

Do you see or feel the Creator now? No! Why not? It is one of the properties that governs everything and does everything, but it does not reveal itself. As a matter of fact, it does not have an individual manifestation. It is not such an individual like you who occupies place in space and wants to be noticed by everyone. The Creator is the opposite property. Therefore He seemingly does not exist…

Do you want to reveal this empty air? For this purpose you also have to become little “airy.”

Above Ein Sof (Infinity) There Is The Giver Of Ein Sof

Dr. Michael LaitmanWe can never imagine and appreciate the upper level since it is a new dimension each time and we enter another world. All our inner data change, our elements change and each time it is as if a new creature, a new creation. This is how the new Reshimot (informational genes) are revealed.

So how can we summon our advancement and think about the Creator’s greatness, about the height of the next level in comparison to the one we are on now? This is why we work indirectly with the help of the environment, by being impressed by it and receiving new values from it, so that a person can imagine bestowal as a connection and love above his ego.

Thanks to the environment, we can somehow depict this picture to ourselves, but in order to advance, we have to demand more from this picture, the uppermost level, which is two levels higher than the one we are on. If the next level is already Ein Sof for us, how can we imagine something that is above Ein Sof?

However, we must imagine that the highest level, which means the revelation of the Creator, is even higher than anything I can imagine. It is then that my appeal to the Creator is right. It is because the upper level is the same state that I want to attain. The level that is above is the one from whom I ask for help to attain the upper level.

I turn to the one above the upper in order to attain the upper. If I present my appeal this way, then it is exactly on a straight line aimed at the Creator. I want to attain the level of bestowal, connection, love of others, and adhesion. But in order to attain this, I don’t turn for help to some unknown factor, but straight to the Creator. Everything is connected in the upper level to one whole: Israel, the Torah (the Light that Reforms), and the Creator.

Israel is me, the one who attains the upper level by the Light, which I receive from the Creator, who is on the uppermost level, but who “comes out” to meet me on the next level. If we have this arrangement we can be sure that we are on one straight line.

The important levels for us are the lower (the current level), the upper, and the uppermost. This is the order of the levels.

The “Left Line” In The Group

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: What does the revelation of the left line in the group indicate?

Answer: If the true left line is revealed in the group, it isn’t so bad, since it can be revealed only after there is already a right line, only if we have prepared ourselves to receive the hardening of the heart, troubles, problems, conflicts, and disagreements.

Everything may happen in a group, but a left line always comes in contrast to the right line and it indicates that we can perceive and imagine it correctly. We have to understand that the Creator is turning to us and hardens Pharaoh’s heart. He does that in order to seem greater to us and to help us know Him.

The Creator is the middle line, pure bestowal, love. So we understand that the problems that are revealed among us are sent in order to advance us towards the goal. It turns out the left line opens the straight road to ascent! It is the most important component for ascending, since we grow to the same extent that we feel the hardening of the heart.

It is like Pharaoh who grew ten times larger before every plague of Egypt, before we leave for the next level. This is already called “redemption” and the exodus from exile. That’s the way it works.

What Can We Give The Creator?

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: How can I bestow unto the Creator if I have nothing to give Him?

Answer: What does a baby have to give to the mother? But look how much joy it brings her, what contentment he gives her. If we imagine that the Creator treats us with infinite, absolute and perfect love, what can we give Him? At least some response, a small smile. If He loves us, no matter what steps we make towards Him, it will be a pleasure for Him. The only question is what does it mean “towards Him.”

There is only one goal: to please the Creator. This is only possible by bestowal, by becoming like Him.

What does the mother want from the baby? She wants to feel the reaction from him as from a little person: a smile, a move towards her. This is a pleasure for her. The mother wants to see the manifestation of human qualities in the baby, signs of progress. And we need to learn from this example. This is what the Creator wants us to do, and thus we can bring Him pleasure.

Ascent By An Alternative Method

Dr. Michael LaitmanBaal HaSulam, “Matan Torah (The Giving of the Torah)”: Our sages tell us about that, that the world had not been created but for the purpose of keeping Torah and Mitzvot, meaning, as our sages have explained, that the aim of the Creator from the time He created His Creation is to reveal His Godliness to others. This is because the revelation of His Godliness reaches the creature as pleasant bounty that is ever growing until it reaches the desired measure.

How do we, the lower ones, ascend to perfection? We do so by understanding the truth. We ourselves do not know this; however, applying efforts in the given circumstances, we act in an “alternative” manner, and although this is not our goal, we form the vessels for attaining the truth through the “secondary” activities. Then we reveal what it is.

That’s what rising from the lowest level to the level of the Creator means. This is done only through special help from Above. We have no direct connection with those degrees to which we ascend, and only indirectly we initiate this rise, according to the principle “labored and found.”
