Question: Why do we see concern or worry as something negative? Should it rather be viewed as the opposite of indifference?

Answer: A concern can be either positive or negative. I experience it as a negative sensation because it troubles and worries me. But what if I am concerned about good things, about how to bestow to others? There are concerns about our personal needs, and there is concern about the Light. Isn’t the Creator constantly concerned about His creations?

We need to attain the property of Bina and from it, the degree of Keter. In this property, a person is constantly concerned about the souls for it is written, “more than the calf wants to eat, the cow wants to feed.” And this is the level of Bina (Elokim [God]), meaning the suffering of Shechina (Divinity) in its worry about the souls.

However, this concern speaks of completeness, not a flaw. When I worry about others, I remain in a perfect state of existence. The spiritual world teems with mutual concerns, but this type of worrying is for the well-being of all. This kind of worry is sweet, it is like my guarantee to the others.

The difference between the still, vegetative, animate, and human levels of nature is defined by the type of concern they experience, what worries them exactly? The state of concern is an important, central point of attention. The Creator also worries about the created beings.

A person is practically rid of corporeal concerns at the first spiritual level. When you don’t worry about your own needs but switch to concern for the needs of others, you don’t see it as something negative. Therefore, such a person is regarded as righteous since he justifies this entire process and feels comfortable with such concerns.

Because of its nature, egoism doesn’t feel rewarded by sacrificing something for the sake of others. We are unable to imagine that by doing so, we will feel good. I may imagine that I will profit from the mutual guarantee, but I don’t see the need to annul myself before the others.

This is the mistake that the communists made: They wanted to use the law of Arvut (mutual responsibility or guarantee), but without the Creator, the force that implements this guarantee and unification. Everyone rises above himself, loses egoism, and annuls himself, but then, the energy to do work disappears.

Therefore, in order to ascend and unite, we have to attach the force of the Creator to ourselves from the very beginning. After all, no one but He will establish a connection between us because this connection manifests above egoism.

The Creator created laws that He implements. We can act solely from the consideration that He is the third participant who determines the final result and is present in every action. This outcome is always in His favor, and you always annul yourself in relation to Him. Then, the third component that you usually don’t think about takes the central position: He is the First, the Last, and the Defining One.

At that point, my goal changes: I want to aspire for this partner and do anything for Him. The system is for Him; I am for Him; the friend is for Him. This is how we ascend to the level of complete bestowal since the Creator is the property of bestowal that we attain between ourselves.

We are fed up with what we call “preparation for preparation.” The time has come for true, practical preparation to enter the spiritual world.

All the texts have been thoroughly, repeatedly studied. The books have been published. Conventions are gathering one after the other. No matter what the group does, if it doesn’t begin the practical realization, we will begin to descend. Without an authentic, inner action, we will only be making cosmetic modifications which will backfire on us.

We are no longer alone. We have gained many “children,” groups in Israel and around the world. We must feel responsibility for them, and we have to attract the Upper Force in order to correctly take care of them, to set an example for the whole of mankind by demonstrating what its spiritual center is.

All of this can be achieved solely by means of the force of mutual guarantee between us if we make the decision, “We shall do, and we shall hear.” We need to realize unity, and, as a result, the Upper Force will manifest in it.

The next level seems too exalted and too distant to us, but, in truth, it is even more exalted and more distant than we imagine. It is opposite to our nature. However, we have to accept its condition and, with all our might, try to accomplish it with one unified powerful attack.

Therefore, now, we are preparing ourselves so that we may accomplish this at the congress. There will be neither allowances nor indulgence for this. After all, we have delegated the responsibility for the multitude of groups. You don’t yet see and feel what a serious, actual, ideological, and loud issue this is. We have plowed the soil, and now our seeds are growing deep, powerful roots. So, let’s do what needs to be done.

Question: How do I know when I start to feel the system? What are the first sensations that a person experiences?

Answer: Responsibility! Just as it is in the family, I start feeling that there is a certain system for which I have to take responsibility. It isn’t accidental that a family is established in the corporeal world and a person has to take this responsibility seriously. Family is the foundation of society, life.

In our case, we must feel as if we are in a “spiritual family” where we all have to reach similarity to the Upper One. In accordance with nature and the law of root and branch, we have to meet the condition of the mutual guarantee and implement it first in the group and then in the entire world.

The whole world, as Baal HaSulam describes, is one family, and nature will force us to learn this law.

Question: The law of the system is total reciprocity. What practical instructions does this law give to each person?

Answer: Since it is a unified, integral, and global system, every part of it must take into account this law and comply with it in its actions. Every individual has to understand and absorb this system, feeling that he is responsible for establishing it to the extent that he has been given free will.

Freedom of choice is the part that I must independently establish in the system and advance in this manner until everyone, on their 125 rungs, discovers more and more of their own free will which is the measure of one’s free and compulsory participation in the system that one establishes from his part.

Question: What is the law of the system of Arvut (mutual guarantee)?

Answer: The law of this system is absolute reciprocity. This is how it is described in the Torah: “As one man with one heart.” This means that the one desire in the entire system, mutual bestowal, is realized in the adhesion with the Creator. The law is defined by the word “one,” as in “unity.”

It could be said that unity of “one” cannot be a law. But the definition of “one” contains many different properties connected with each other above hatred and rejection by relations of love and bestowal. This is the internal formula of the system: Qualities opposite in their nature are connected above this opposition by the law of equivalence of form.

This is the way our body and any integrated system are constructed. In order for such a system to exist, it must be built from the different forms and opposite parts over which there operates a universal law: existence for the sake of one unified purpose.

Question: Is there a difference in the spiritual development of women and men, and what constitutes this difference?

Answer: If we look at the historical process, we see that as soon as Abraham began to reveal the wisdom of Kabbalah, he received an order to adhere with his female part: “Listen to what Sarah tells you.” Everything is determined by the female part. What a man reveals is revealed by him in the woman, meaning the male part of the soul in the inner female part of the soul and the man in the woman. Rabash wrote and spoke repeatedly about the fact that in the corrected society, in a corrected family with a man and a woman, the husband and a wife are in the process of revealing the Creator between them. The husband perceives the wife through the Creator and the wife relates to the husband in the same manner. They constantly feel that the Creator dwells between them. That is, I know that I received her from the Creator. And if I perceive her as a part that can help me reach the Creator, then I am truly realizing myself.

Question cont.: In other words, my wife is my partner on the spiritual path?

Answer: She is not just a partner. I see her as a companion chosen for me by the Creator. And if I treat her this way, I don’t just address her. I address her and the Creator at the same time and feel that she relates to me in the same manner. It seems like an unnatural contrast, but it is very natural because it is very goal-oriented. It turns out that at every moment of my life, from the most intimate to the most common situations in the family, and even more so in public and in the world, we begin to treat each other like the Creator dwells between us. We feel that this Force needs to bind us together, fill the voids between us, and correct the rejection and hatred that rises up between us. The Creator Himself comes to fill this space and unite us with each other. We can begin to realize this in the family, the closest place for every person, and continue it throughout the whole world.

Question: I don’t understand: What is the freedom that we must attain?

Answer: Our freedom amounts to attaining the desire for bestowal that will fill us with infinite enjoyment. The goal is to achieve the most comfortable state of existence, although it requires us to first change and correct ourselves.

The Creator, Who is Good that does good, wished to create a being in order to bestow pleasure to it. And He will give this pleasure to us! Yet, like a little child, I dream only about one thing: that my parents would give me a bicycle for a present. For me, it is the greatest dream, but my parents fear that I will ride on a dangerous highway between the cars. Instead of buying me a bicycle, they wish to teach me to play the violin. Do you see the difference?

Similarly, the Creator wants us to “play the violin,” but we want a “bicycle” for our egoism to ride. Yet, when we make our desire as His, change ourselves and realize that to play the violin is the greatest joy, then we attain all the pleasure prepared for us by Him. After all, the Creator placed enjoyment in the “violin,” not in the “bicycle,” and I will have to change my desire for I have no choice. However, as a result, I will attain pleasure as conceived in the plan of creation.

My reward in this world is to gradually build for myself the necessary environment. I seek and discern which environment is needed to advance me to the example that the Creator gave me, and by doing so, I construct myself. From all the opportunities given to me, I build myself a “wrapper” that I can dress in.

A person creates for himself a new world, his next spiritual degree. He doesn’t simply give himself into the hands of the Upper One, permitting Him to do anything He desires. Rather, he has to know precisely what kind of person he wants to become, by way of which forces and influences. He creates himself and his entire world anew.

It is the kind of freedom that makes you the Creator. You start to understand all of nature’s components and to assemble them like a new puzzle game every time according to your opinion and advancement to the form of the Creator. You are constructing this world. This free choice grants you new desires and instruments of perception. By building it, you get to understand and know the Creator, His Upper force, the program of creation, and its laws that everybody follows. Hence, you can control it all.

It turns out that you are in place of the Creator and are governing everything. By inviting this force to govern you, you accept it, and with its help, you rule the world. It will be you, and your free will is the foundation for it. You are not the one who is governed anymore, but the governor. To do this, we just need to find out what our freedom is.

It is not important where we begin to read The Zohar from, what item, or what part of it. Even if a person listens to the lesson for the first time, it is absolutely unimportant. “There is no time in spirituality”; the Torah speaks of spiritual states, all of which occur within us, but we do not perceive it yet.

It is completely irrelevant, though. We need to awaken the Light inside The Book of Zohar, the most exalted, true, and powerful source. No book even comes near to The Book of Zohar‘s influence on the soul.

The only way to draw its Light upon us, for it to have an effect on us, is by obtaining qualities similar to it. Therefore, we are reading The Book of Zohar together. In other words, each of us has to prepare himself to be in connection with the others from the beginning, even before we open The Book of Zohar.

This is what is said about the giving of the Torah: If you agree (obviously, that we cannot do it, but we agree nonetheless) to become “as one man in one heart,” to achieve brotherly love (in the future), then you will receive the Torah, meaning the method of correction by way of the Light that Reforms. Then, that Light will return you to the Source, to the good, to equivalence with the Creator.

That is why when we are reading The Zohar, we have to always strive to meet this condition: Be ready to unite so that the Light will influence us, unite us, and we will reveal the Creator in our unity as in one common soul. An individual soul, after all, can only feel our present reality, the one that we are currently perceiving.

Freedom starts at the point where I make a decision as to whether I am governed from Above or not, whether the Creator exists or not, and whether I depend on Him 100 percent? If not, then what does freedom mean? If there is no freedom at all and we cannot change anything, then there is nothing to think about. However, if we are capable of autonomous actions, then what are they?

Here is the point at which I begin to clarify why I live, what is the essence of my life, what will happen to me further, and what is the use of my life. In other words, I would like to know if I am managing my own life and whether I can modify anything in it. These questions emerge at a “speaking level” in a human being.

The whole clarification is about whether I can act on my own and contest the Creator (nature) that governs everything there is. Is there a “free” point outside of me that doesn’t belong to nature?

At a regular, animate level of this material life, we cannot change anything, and, therefore, it is so predictable. However, not a single fortune teller knows what will happen in the Upper life, at the “speaking” level, within our connection with the Creator, our freedom. A fortune teller can guess only what might happen at the level of this world, with our physical body.

Below the Machsom (the barrier separating us from spirituality), there exists no freedom of will whatsoever; it subsists only in spirituality. An animal doesn’t possess any freedom of will at all, so why would our physical body be any different? However, the soul exists beyond this level and obeys different forces that are present in another world, another dimension. We can only speak about freedom in relation to the soul.

What kind of freedom can exist in this world if our biological bodies are rigidly governed by pleasure and affliction? Freedom of choice exists only in spirituality in the “middle line.” Don’t waste your energy for material things that are beyond your prime necessities. You won’t get anything worthy from this bodily life, and if you persist in demanding more than you really need, you only make your life more complicated.

However, if you use your vigor to attain spirituality, you will win. This is the law of nature: You have to provide for a normal material existence, but the rest of your energy and intellect has to be devoted to attaining spirituality. That’s where you will find genuine fulfillment.
