Studying The Laws Of Creation On Ourselves

Dr. Michael LaitmanThe Creator’s purpose is to do good to His created beings. The pleasure that comes from the Creator can only be felt by two opposites, when we see Him from a point that is opposite to the good. Then, in this gap between the empty vessel and the Light, we can all feel His goodness.

It cannot be done differently according to the way we see it. Therefore, there was the shattering of the vessels as preparation. Thanks to the fact that we work on the correction of the vessels, we begin to feel the gap between the corrupt vessel and the correct one.

The corrupt vessel is called the desire to receive for itself, and the corrected vessel is the desire to bestow upon others. The correction begins from the level of this world, from the complete detachment from the feeling of the connection with the Creator.

All the laws we have to discover, to determine, and to fulfill are the laws of society. In it we learn these laws in the process of our work, as it says: “There is none wiser than the experienced.” Therefore, the moment a person is given the urge to correct himself, he begins to look for the meaning of life that is actually in the corrected vessel, and then he is brought to the group so that he will be able to put together his spiritual vessel and feel the purpose and meaning of life in it.

We learn on ourselves all the laws of reality by our gradual connection in the group. This is what the whole wisdom of Kabbalah is dedicated to: It tells us about how Kabbalists correct themselves and connect with others on the corporeal and the spiritual levels. In fact, there is nothing but the correction on which this wisdom is based.

It takes a long time until we agree to hear this, then there is a long period in which we hear it but cannot implement it, or don’t feel the connection between the world and what we should do.

During that time the Light influences us in small portions, until we finally begin to feel that we have no choice and that we have to fulfill what we hear. In doing that there are many degrees and states.

Penetrating Love Through Barricades Of Hate

Dr. Michael LaitmanIf I feel indifference toward the friends and nothing disturbs me, it is a sign that I haven’t begun to discover hate and certainly not love. However, if I already feel repelled by them, it is the influence of the upper light that is shining on me to show me my evil, my ego.

Not everyone is ready for this kind of work: It is possible that a person may connect with others and feel good; it’s pleasant, it’s interesting to go to the desert with everyone with all that hugging, and he doesn’t feel any hate. Hate can only be revealed by the Light that reforms.

Does it surprise you that this is the way It reforms you? Yes, this is the way to Him.

It is important not to despair that you have discovered hate that repels you. Don’t shout, “Where is my advancement? What kind of reward is this for my efforts?”

If you continue despite everything, if you want to connect with the friends because there is no other choice and Kabbalists advise you to do so, if you annul yourself, then you will understand that it is possible to reach bestowal and the revelation of the Creator only through connection. But you see that by yourself, you cannot connect and then you realize that connection is only possible with the help of the Surrounding Light.

The hatred towards the friends also comes from the Light, but this happens without our request. It is the revelation of evil. In order to correct it, a person must relate to the upper force purposefully and ask It to be revealed so that we will have the opportunity to connect with others.

There are many ascents and descents, disappointments, and a long period of helplessness on this path when you can’t annul yourself or turn either way. We are purposefully being exhausted this way until eventually the Light from Above comes to help us, and we begin to appreciate the friends. Here too you should check whether you appreciate them for no reason or whether you appreciate them because you appreciate the Creator.

Israel, the Torah, and the Creator should always be joined into one, and then this aims you in the right direction. Israel (you) is full of hate; the Torah (the upper Light) reforms you, helping you build the love on top of the hate. And then in the middle line, when you correctly connect the right and the left, you reveal the Creator and it all merges together into one.

This is the focus of our work.

Clarifications Before The Attack

Dr. Michael LaitmanWe must constantly ask ourselves whether each day we better understand: what the need for redemption is, the preparation for it, and the spiritual vessel we have to prepare in order to go out to the desert. Do we have a deficiency for that?

The deficiency should be made of two parts: Malchut and Keter. Malchut is the deficiency, it is what I lack, and Keter is the respect I have for this deficiency, it is my assessment of this desire having the greatest importance..

We need a Masach and the returning Light, in other words, the ability to bestow. After all, the Masach itself isn’t bestowal yet, and neither is the returning Light; they are only the conditions. But we need them, because other than that, nothing is required of the spiritual vessel. The filling will come according to the Masach and the returning Light,

It is called a filling because the Creator, the Light of Hochma, is dressed in the filling afterward; it will be the direct result of the correction of the vessel.

The Masach and the returning Light are built on the desires and cannot exist without its depth and strength (Aviut). Therefore, love cannot exist without hate, without a strong, deep desire it is impossible to overcome it. This is how it should be built: one inside the other.

Therefore, when we are about attack, we have to see whether we’ve actually revealed our egoism, which we should attack now. Who are we attacking? There is nothing but the desire to receive and the desire to bestow, and we have to clarify this before we attack.

Audacity Won’t Hurt

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: Can I oblige myself to change internally? Is there such an action? For example, if I constantly think and worry about the friends’ intentions and set an alarm clock to remind me to do that, will I be able to measure the result of these efforts?

Answer: I don’t know the result. I exert myself and I don’t know what I will find.

Question: How can I examine things this way? What is the purpose of such a study?

Answer: Carrying it out. If you did it, the result will be positive. All other questions and claims come from the ego, “What do I get from this? Do I lose anything?”

Try to detach yourself as much as you can: There is a mission and I don’t need anything else. The alarm clock rings and I think about the friends. Then they disappear from my sight until the next ring. That’s all.

We can succeed. The problem is the inner weakness: You don’t have enough audacity. After all, audacity towards Heaven opens up the doors for you.

At the moment you see things intelligently and without attracting attention you are trying to turn the doorknob quietly and slip inside. But no, you should pound on the door so that it will swing open.

Question: How can I acquire this audacity towards Heaven?

Answer: Audacity is not when I doubt things indecisively: “Is it worth it? Perhaps we are not worthy of it yet? Perhaps we should first accumulate power and knowledge….” Audacity is when I demand although I know that I don’t deserve it. I know it and I demand it as if the Creator owes me.

And this is justified. I understand that I cannot exit my ego, that the Creator has created me this way so that I cannot really connect with the friends. I know that I am standing in front of a wall because I have discovered this after the efforts I have made. I have already tried many things and I have already attained certain things, but all my achievements are futile in front of this wall. Each time the evil inclination overtakes me and tells me: “Wait a while, you still have to finish what you haven’t had a chance to. Perhaps in a month or two, maybe brush up on Shamati, and accumulate power… but now you are not ready yet. Let the others try.”

There must be audacity here, but very serious and thorough audacity: “I deserve it and that’s it.” This isn’t a senseless attack but a careful calculation. I bring the efforts I made with me; I don’t simply demand things, and I do it together with the friends. It makes no difference whether we look like a gang of criminals and not a consolidated group, we demand decisively, as brave people who will not give up.

Spiritual Vessel: It Is Not A Pocket

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: What should be the result of the Arava convention?

Answer: The word “result” in itself indicates that we are going there for some profit and that we want to get something. The truth is that I have to rise above myself, to lose myself and to feel “we” instead.

That’s all we need—to acquire the first spiritual vessel. This vessel in essence is a desire, a deficiency, and not an egoistic property. The desire to be with others in particular is revealed here, to connect to others. If it is constantly in me, it means that I have acquired that vessel.

But you expect to feel good as a result of our connection, that is, you expect to get an egoistic fulfillment. Start thinking and looking for the differences. There are many details here and it is good if you are confused by them, then you try to find out the truth.

The Prayer Of The Poor

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: What is the “prayer of the poor” that doesn’t go unanswered?

Answer: The prayer of the poor is a plea of a person who understands that no one can help him but the Creator. He feels that he has no rights, no merits, no good deeds, no support, and that he has nothing. Even his egoism no longer sustains him and this is called total poverty.

In this case only the Creator (through the group) can help him. This plea for help is the prayer of the poor for bare necessities, only to save his soul.

The Abyss Below Our Feet

Dr. Michael LaitmanIt is impossible to attain true love without the basis of  hatred. Without hate there is only beastly love, a game of hormones: One shot and you love; another shot and you fall out of love. In our world, love is actually a pursuit of the fulfillment. When you want to eat, you love pie, and when you want to start a family, you love your spouse and children. These are simply different kinds of fillings that can be reconstructed if we implant certain electrodes in a person’s brain.

True love is built only above hate. Otherwise it is impossible to feel it. In our world, there is no love; we are talking about human love, not animal attraction that brings egoistic pleasure.

Question: It reminds me of cartoons where the characters find themselves in the air above an abyss and they still keep running for a while before they look down.

Answer: Exactly, they discover that they are hanging above a chasm, and then they fall. This is exactly what is happening in the world today. This is really a nice description of the crisis. This is why those in power are afraid to look down.

Question: How can we hold on to something in this situation? How can we reach true love?

Answer: Actually, I am a small person and I don’t feel sublime things, but am only confused in my present state. So what should I do?

The answer is simple: You need a group. This is both the diagnosis of the disease and its cure.

Congenital Disease: Hatred Of Friends

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: How can I keep myself in the group although I feel that I hate them?

Answer: It isn’t terrible. Everyone experiences this hatred. See what it says about Rabbi Shimon’s students: such great people and what hatred was revealed among them. We need to look at it as a doctor treating an illness, and to treat it as a given fact not blaming anyone.

We have to accept the hatred as natural and essential, and we have to live with it. We have to know our nature and at the same time try to rise above it and build the spiritual relationships between us.

Wherever our mutual work with the help of the Light takes place above our ego, this is where we treat the hatred as a doctor treats a patient. When a doctor examines a patient, he doesn’t take his personality into account, but rather examines the illness and cures it. This is how we should act.

The ego is given to us from Above so that with its help, above it, we will build this connection with one another. If you don’t feel the hatred of friends inside you—you simply haven’t discovered it yet.

A Gift Is In The Heart

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: How can I present a gift to my friends if we are connected virtually?

Answer: Do we give material gifts to friends when we meet them in person? A true gift is in the heart. If we really have gifts for our friends then they will feel it. One who gives a gift is called upper and one who receives it is called lower. And they are called friends when the receiver feels the giver of the gift and accepts it with love and joy because he understands that this is an expression of the friend’s love towards him, and by receiving the gift he reciprocates with love.

A gift is but a ploy, and that’s why it’s unimportant who gives and who receives; both are equals. If we can build this kind of relationship between us then we will feel one another like a mother that feels her child from afar. After all, love is more powerful than distance.

What Does “To Reach An Answer” Mean?

Dr. Michael LaitmanIf from the beginning you do not want to go from Lo Lishma (not for Her name) to Lishma (for Her name), to bestowal, then it is preferable not to do anything at all. At least don’t ask the Creator for the sake of the ego. After all, you agree on a partnership with Him, just to get more from Him.

How should we act in order not to turn into leeches that demand “Give me both this world and the next world!” but instead of this, learn from the Creator about His attribute of bestowal without, “building” on His riches?

Thus, the state of Lo Lishma is very delicate, serious, dramatic, and life changing. After all, from this point, I can go in two completely different directions and I need to make a choice.

The search for the meaning of life, its source and goal, brings me to this point, to the teacher, the group, the books, the system, and I begin to clarify it. From it, I can go back in all kinds of directions, and I can move forward.

But how can I discover where “forward” and “backward” are? After all, I don’t see the direction. I can be told about this a thousand times, but still I don’t see it. I need to clarify it myself.

Backward is death and forward is life, but to me it can be perceived completely differently. How can I check it in order to constantly direct myself?

I have partners concerning this point: the group, the teacher and of course, the Creator. Now I need to organize all these components in order to advance in the good direction.

But what is good: Is it what is good for me, for my ego, or about someone else’s goals? There are numerous questions here and I need to clarify. It seems that I am within a sphere with 360 degrees of choices of direction, and I can choose whatever direction I wish! Where should I go? That is the huge question that a person faces.

It takes a long time until he clarifies this question, and this clarification ends only at Gmar Tikkun (end of correction). In this way we attain the answer to the same question about the meaning of life that we arrived with. Although it seemed to you that you began to feel and understand it beforehand, we actually attain it only at the end. Indeed within this question are included all of your thoughts and desires, and all of them need to be corrected and fulfilled, and then it means that you reached the answer.

We stand before this point, and we need to connect ourselves together: the group, the teacher, the Creator, and another component, the Torah.

The Creator is the source. I, the group, and the teacher are the means. The Torah is the force of correction that I activate. Thus it is said, “Israel, the Light and the Holy One, Blessed be He, are One.” And if I connect all of these into one place, the correct path opens before me.

This path doesn’t exist by itself, it is created before me like a direction that was opened, like a straight arrow, like a vector, on the condition that I choose all the items of data correctly. I need each time to organize correctly all the attributes, my thoughts and desires, to clarify the direction, and advance forward again and again. In this way, we correct ourselves.
