Looking For Stability In The Job Market

In the News (from The Huffington Post): “Ohio School Janitor Job Gets 700 Applicants” An Ohio school has nearly 700 applications for one open janitorial job, an overwhelming response to the week-old posting. The full-time position pays $15 to $16 an hour plus benefits. Many applicants are laid-off workers with heart-wrenching stories about the tough economic times.

My Comment: I can understand them, as this is a job in a place that’s likely to be the last to close.

Everything In The World Belongs To Everyone

In the News (from The World Bank): “Reshaping Economic Geography” In his foreword for the World Development Report 2009, World Bank president Robert B. Zoellick notes, “Production concentrates in big cities, leading provinces, and wealthy nations… onto 1.5 percent of its land … But economic concentration leaves out some populations, with a billion people [having to] survive on less than 2 percent of the world’s wealth.

My Comment: The entire world is one family. If we accept this fact, everyone will be okay, and if we don’t, everyone will end up being losers. Before our world became globalized, each person could afford to live alone. But now, in the globalized world, all the decisions must be global. Everything, including natural resources and production, belongs to all people. And the crisis will not go away until we learn this law of Nature.

Financial Forecasting Will Not Solve The Crisis

In the News (from The Financial Times): “How science can prevent the next bubble” There have been many calls for building a financial forecasting service. The proposal is to set up an independent agency, making full use of the internet and grid computing to provide enough warning when the next financial storm is brewing. We need to dig deeper and track the complexity of interactions in financial markets by collecting and analyzing the tick-by-tick data that markets spew out. This will offer an early warning of dangerous misalignments between prices and risk premiums.

My Comment: People still do not understand that the root of the crisis is our incorrect, individualistic, egoistic behavior in a world that’s global, integral, unified and completely interdependent. It won’t help us to have more knowledge about what is happening, because it is we who must become equivalent to the world in which we live.

The world began to be what it is today nearly a hundred years ago. In fact, 70 years ago Baal HaSulam wrote that humanity had already become one family. Today, just like we teach our children how to live in this world, we too have to learn how to live in the new conditions of total interdependence with each other.

The Failure Of Obama’s Stimulus Plan Is Another Reminder That We Are All In One Boat

In the News (from The Guardian): “How to fail to recover the economy” Short-sighted responses by politicians – who hope to get by with a deal that is small enough to please taxpayers and large enough to please the banks – will only prolong the problem. The well of money may be running dry, and so, too, may be America’s legendary optimism and hope.

My Comment: Obama’s stimulus plan isn’t working, and it cannot work according to the laws of Nature! This was already clear the day it was approved. None of the politicians or economists understand what kind of world we are now living in.

But instead of blaming them, we should blame ourselves for our inability to make them hear our voices. I invite everyone to tirelessly keep knocking on their doors and writing to them about the cause of the crisis and its solution, because the fact is – we are all in one boat!

Calling A Tent Home In America

In the News (from ABC News): “Struggling Americans call tent cities home” Tent cities are springing up in California as thousands of people hit hard by foreclosures and big job losses say they have nowhere else to go.

Will Europe Make It Through The Crisis?

In the News (from The New York Times): “Growing Economic Crisis Threatens the Idea of One Europe” The European Union is struggling with the strains this crisis has inevitably produced among 27 countries with uneven levels of development. The traditional concept of “solidarity” is being undermined. An urgent call from Hungary for a large bailout for newer, Eastern members was bluntly rejected by Europe’s strongest economy, Germany, and received little support from other countries.

My Comment: This will only accelerate the crisis and help people to overcome it faster, because the egoism of the Old Europe towards the New Europe will be revealed faster.

In the News (from BBC News): “UK interest rates lowered to 0.5%” The Bank of England said it would expand the amount of money in the system up to £150bn. The bank will buy assets – such as government securities (gilts) and corporate bonds… Ian McCafferty, CBI chief economist, said the continuing rate cuts were “becoming less and less effective as a means of stimulating the economy.”

My Comment: Now there’s more “paper,” but less bread. I recently heard a very respected person say, “the Armageddon is coming.” This bitter joke reflects people’s feelings of being helpless when looking to the future, and that’s because they lack information about the one and only solution to the crisis, which is actually very simple!

Thinking Of Others Is The Key To Ending The Crisis

A question I received: The end to the crisis is constantly being postponed. First people said it would end in a couple of months, then – a couple of years, and today they say that it may take ten years. How can we survive for so many years without any benefits, pensions, food reserves, and ability to pay for heat and electricity? When will the crisis end according to Kabbalah?

My Answer: It will end when each person will begin to think about everyone else instead of himself.

Gordon Brown Outlines Plan To Shape The First Global Society

In the News (from The Times Online): “The special relationship is going global”

Historians will look back and say this was an unprecedented period of global change. The scale and the speed of the global banking crisis have at times been almost overwhelming. Everywhere people who rely on their banks for savings have been feeling powerless and afraid.

But it is when times become harder and challenges greater [that] countries must show vision, leadership and courage – and … we can do even more working together internationally. So now is the time for leaders of every country in the world to work together to agree to the action that will see us through the current crisis and ensure we come out stronger.

A new set of challenges faces the whole world, which summons forth the need for a partnership of purpose that must involve the whole world. Rebuilding global financial stability is a global challenge that needs global solutions.

However, financial instability is but one of the challenges that globalization brings. Our task in working together is to secure a high-growth, low-carbon recovery by taking seriously the global challenge of climate change. And our efforts must be to work for a more stable world where we defeat not only global terrorism but global poverty, hunger and disease.

Globalization has brought great advances, lifting millions out of poverty as they reap the benefits of economic growth and trade. But it has also brought new insecurities… Globalization is not an option, it is a fact, so the question is whether we manage it well or badly.

I see this global new deal as an agreement that every continent injects resources into its economy. I believe that central to this new investment is that every country backs a green recovery for the future, that every country that wishes to participate in the international financial system agrees to common principles for financial regulation, coordinated internationally.

It is a global new deal that will lay the foundations not just for a sustainable economic recovery but for a genuinely new era of international partnership in which all countries have a part to play. This programme of internationally coordinated actions includes six elements:

First, universal action to prevent the crisis spreading, to stimulate the global economy and to help reduce the severity and length of the global recession.

Second, action to kick-start lending so that families and businesses can borrow again.

Third, all countries renouncing protectionism, with a transparent mechanism to monitor commitments.

Fourth, reform of international regulation to close regulatory gaps so shadow banking systems have nowhere to hide.

Fifth, reform of our international financial institutions and the creation of an international early warning system.

And last, coordinated international action to build tomorrow today – putting the world economy on an economically, environmentally and socially sustainable path towards future growth and recovery.

I want that hope to be fulfilled through us all coming together to shape the 21st century as the first century of a truly global society.

Money Can’t Buy Happiness

In the News (from Gallup International Association): “Voice of the People 2008” Gallup International’s Voice of the PeopleTM Survey, conducted in 56 countries, found that two thirds (62%) of global citizens say they take life as it comes, while one third (33%) tends to worry a lot. Africa is the region where the largest number of interviewees claimed to take life as it comes: three quarters of people declared so (75%). It is interesting to note that more than half of the surveyed population in Africa (53%) declared that they are very happy, a proportion that is significantly higher than in other regions.

My Comment: What do you say to that, Europe!?

In the News: (from Bloomberg): “Brown, Berlusconi Say Confidence Key to Economy” U.K. Prime Minister Gordon Brown and Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi said restoring confidence and stringent financial regulations will help the world rebound from recession.

My Comment: That is absolutely correct. But how? Do they have the method of correction?

International Energy Agency Warns Of New Gigantic Economic Crisis In 2013

In the News (from IRNA): The world could face a new gigantic economic crisis in 2013 as a result of a massive global oil shortage, the Paris-based International Energy Agency (IEA) said Saturday. The IEA chief voiced alarm, pointing to a drastic drop in global oil reserves as well as oil output capacities by 2013. “We could be headed towards a new crisis whose dimension could exceed the present one,” [said] IAE director Nobuo Tanaka.

My Comment: The crisis began decades ago, roughly in the middle of the 20th century. It was discussed in the Club of Rome and then in the Club of Budapest, of which I was a member. The crisis is multidimensional; it is happening in all areas of man’s activity. I have been speaking about it from the point of view of Kabbalah for the last decade.

However, people started worrying only when the crisis became economic, when it hit our pockets. We have lost a lot of time, and we have to take action now (better late than never). Otherwise, the crisis will develop and become even worse. It will continue until suffering will make people realize that they have to become similar to Nature, to become integrally connected and attain a mutual guarantee. Or, to put it simply, the crisis will continue until people begin to love their neighbor like they love themselves. Once they do, all the crises will end.
