Create Yourself

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: Many friends exerted themselves a lot before the Moscow convention. The importance of the goal was high. What did we lack? What should we, as a group, realize now at the new level?

Answer: In other words, you would like to say that the convention was not successful because we did not reveal in ourselves the property of bestowal. However, we could not achieve it in one go. It is impossible. A child cannot skip a few years of his growth.

Development is a sequential, step-by-step process. Not having realized a certain Reshimo (informational record), you cannot start realizing the next one. You simply will not have the tools in the mind and feelings to develop further.

We have done a great job; we advanced in our perception powerfully and intensively. And now, after the convention, we will go through the process of realizing it—perhaps not altogether pleasantly, but necessary.

Practically, the work that such a convention performs in you is equivalent to half a year of intensive studies. How many people who attended the convention study normally so intensely? We “propelled” them and those who were with us around the world at least six months forward. Such gatherings are very effective, and I am in favor of organizing them as often as possible. I am ready to give all I have got for it.

Naturally, after the convention, the stage of realization comes: “What have we achieved?” Here, a person should proceed to analyze the entire method with the help of articles and studies. He has to re-evaluate it again.

After the convention, many people begin to analyze the method of Kabbalah in general: “What for? Why? How? Is it correct or not? Is it a tale or a real method of my transformation in accordance with general Nature?” These are very useful, necessary, and essential processes that must occur in each of us.

Kabbalah makes you a human, not a robot, not a “half-believer” or mystic, but a researcher. Exploring yourself, you perceive the world and the Creator because all of it is within you. The entire process in based on self-knowledge because a person exists and nothing more.

Each of us has a sense of his “Self” and his world. Now, I feel you, the hall where we are, the planet, the Universe, and all of it happens within me; this picture has been created within me. How can it be changed? How can it be investigated? Is it truly like this? Or is this world presented to us as ethereal, transient, and changing? I perceive everything through the changes of my own properties.

That is why it is impossible to skip developmental stages. I must form them within myself. I have to be my own judge, researcher, and analyst. Essentially, I have to become the Creator of myself. Kabbalah develops in you the need to understand absolutely everything, who and what you are, and to create out of yourself an absolute, perfect form that will be called “the Creator.”

This is long and hard work, but namely it is intended for every human being. Do not think that someone living in a jungle is incapable of such work. He will be included in it because he will have a Kli, desire, shared with others, common thoughts and feelings. Whatever he lacks he will obtain from others.

Had we not evolved under the influence of our environment, we would have remained little “animals.” It is namely the environment that develops us and gives us the missing qualities, desires, intentions. Thus, there is no person in the world whose environment would not include the entire humanity. Anyone can reach the level of anyone of us, no matter how primitive he is.

The entire process of self-knowledge and creating in oneself the highest property should proceed in this manner, step by step. On one hand, this process is individual because a person raises himself, and on the other, it is seemingly a group process. However, in reality, there is neither group nor humanity, but only your immediate part rejected by your egoism and perceived by you as alien.

When you work on yourself, wishing to gradually bring this part closer to you, to accept it as your own, you work against your innate egoism. And you turn it into the force of connection instead of the force of rejection of the seemingly “external” part, of humanity.

The Light Intensifier

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: What does it mean to be transparent for the Light and to let it pass through me?

Answer: It means to be similar to the Light. Then it passes through you without any interference. That is, you become its conductor. You are not just something transparent so it can pass through you without obstacles, but you participate in its passage through you.

We remain in our egoism that became so much lighter that it let the Light pass through us. This Light passes and comes out of you even stronger by being transmitted to others. Suppose at the entrance, the power of the Light was “P1,” and the power of your egoism “E.” Then, “P1” multiplied by “E” is the power of the Light “P2” that exits you.

You are an intensifier of the Light on its way.

A Science About The World

Dr. Michael LaitmanThe wisdom of Kabbalah explains the entire system of the universe, it describes for us the world of Infinity and the four phases of the expansion of the Direct Light, meaning the formation of the desires “from absence.”

Kabbalah clarifies what “from absence” means, which is to exist in a spiritual dimension outside of our world, and it explains the descent to it and the ascent from it, which means to “exist beyond time, space, and motion,” which are states as they are realized: according to Einstein or some other higher way?

Kabbalah also discusses the descent of desire. It talks about desire and the influence of a single parameter, the Light, upon it. There is nothing else in the universe except for the Light and desire. They beget everything we see in us and between us. All these things are different manifestations of desire, which were formed by the Light one way or another.

Kabbalah tells us about the gradual descent from Above downward and the creation of blocks of the spiritual state: Partzufim, Sefirot, and the worlds (concealments). This refers to a causal process, a strict and precise one, which we study using a scientific approach.

There is an enormous amount of purely scientific and complicated materials on this topic: graphs, equations, conditions that precisely describe the cause and effect development of desire under the influence of Light, screens, informational records (Reshimot), stages of development, and so on. All of this is pure science that has nothing to do either with religion or poetry; it’s nothing but pure physics.

Furthermore, Kabbalah talks about our world, about its creation. As early as 3,700 years ago Kabbalists described how a spark of Light created the volume of our world because previously, this space did not exist either. Then the Big Bang happened in this space, and this tiny spark gave rise to all matter of our world.

Everything was born from absence in the world of Infinity. Since we do not comprehend this, we ask ourselves: “What does everything out of nothing mean?” However, physicists say that the same thing happened also in our world: There was a certain spark, a point, which suddenly exploded and produced the entire Universe. In other words, modern science follows the same principles and tells us exactly what Kabbalah tells us, including the four consecutive stages of development: still, vegetative, animate, and human.

Kabbalah also tells us about the creation of the Universe over billions of years, and then our planet from a cloud of gases. This is described in Kabbalah books that are hundreds and thousands of years old. Today physics, geology, and astronomy say the same.

Kabbalists described the periods of warming and cooling of Earth, which took tens of millions of years, until a solid crust appeared together with the opportunity for protein matter to exist due to the appropriate distribution between all the components. Why specifically protein matter? Why specifically this kind of foundation instead of silicone or methane, or some other matter? Kabbalah explains all of this.

And finally, Kabbalah tells us about the creation of a human being who was the result of the gradual development of the still, vegetative, and animate nature. Kabbalah describes the intermediate stages: corals which are between the still and the vegetative levels; a special species which represents the intermediate state between the vegetative and the animate levels; and a primate which is the intermediate form between the highest animal state and man.

Kabbalah describes all these stages and shows why evolution happened the way it did. The only difference from Darwin’s theory is that Kabbalah tells of informational data that exists from the very beginning, informational genes that exist in matter, which develop according to a preset program instead of an accidental evolution or evolution that depends on circumstances.

All the species are realized based on their inner parameters, which existed from the beginning on the world of Infinity and have simply descended and realized themselves here in order to once again aim upward. This entire chain is determined beforehand; it is calculated ahead of time from beginning to end.

Egoism: An Interrupted Flight

Dr. Michael LaitmanFor millennia, we advanced with the slow growth of egoism and developed society, technologies, and various sciences in compliance with it. Then, during the Renaissance, a steeper ascent began that peaked in our century, with a consumer society.

When this egoism reached a certain level, it suddenly stopped, “interrupted its flight,” and its graph now turns into a horizontal line. It will not grow further.

In this state, humanity begins to feel depression as it can’t see how it can satisfy itself. Earlier, being at the intermediate stages of our development, we always aspired to something greater. Every time, it seemed to us that the next state was better than the current one, and we wanted to achieve it. We raised children, hoping that it would be better for them than for us, that their world would be higher, wiser, and so on.

However, today we don’t want to have children because we don’t see how their life will become better. We feel that egoism cannot grow any further; it has nowhere to grow. We even begin to limit our most ambitious space programs. Everything is declining. Besides that, resources do not allow us to develop freely. We begin to deplete ourselves in terms of energy, resources and in terms of our inner potential. We have nowhere to grow, nothing to strive for. “I don’t want anything.”

Over 50 percent of the people in the world experience some form of depression. We are not talking about drugs, terrorism, divorces, mutual estrangement, or conflicts between parents and children. All these are symptoms, an indication that egoism begins to “run out.” It can’t fulfill itself at the current level, on our small Earth.

Egoistic desires consist of two groups:

  1. Food, sex, and family. These desires are natural; they are present in every human and in animals.
  2. Wealth, power, honor (which are essentially the same thing), and knowledge. These desires are social.

Today, both these groups of desires no longer grow any more. They seem to have reached their peak and remain at the same level.

Soon, they will begin to diminish. A human will not need all that; he will begin to give up his “conquests,” to become empty internally because he will not expect any new desires or any new fulfillment. In our world, these six desires exhaust themselves, and this is also one of the reasons, one of the components, that drives us towards the crossing of the “Machsom,” the barrier between the worlds. They push us from behind by sufferings.

What Does Unity Give Us?

Levers For Controlling The Spiritual World

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: How can I direct my dissemination actions towards the spiritual root with maximum intensity? How can I imagine the spiritual processes to which my actions correspond? Where is the world I disseminate to, where am I, and where is the men’s group in this picture?

Answer: You are asking questions that already pertain to the next degree. In other words, you want to feel the actuality of your actions: How exactly do they manifest, where are these levers, threads, instruments which I use to control when editing materials, disseminating, doing something? How exactly am I acting, in what direction is this all going?

In general, for now all this work is for general unity, meaning not for the direct attainment of a higher degree, but for unity on our degree. As soon as our unity becomes somewhat similar to the upper Light, this Light begins to influence it and lifts us accordingly to its level.

This means that everything you do only affects unity. And nothing else! But as soon as it reaches a certain strength, a certain threshold, contact between this unity and the Light immediately begins to appear. Light influences this unity; it begins to manifest in it and feel it. Then our attempt to unite becomes real. And those who join this united desire and complete it begin to perceive whatever is manifesting in this common desire to the extent of their participation.

Assume that a thousand people are participating in the creation of the collective desire, trying to rise above their egoism and create a certain generality of desire through all possible actions. They rise slightly over the breaking of this desire and aspire towards unity. This aspiration and effort attracts the manifestation of Light in this desire.

When their efforts reach a certain strength, the Light manifest in its action above the desire and sets it on a certain level within this desire. It then becomes a common desire, and this upper quality manifests in it.

And when you take part in this common desire by giving it, let us say, ten pounds of your efforts, you perceive that what is happening in it to the extent of these ten pounds. Light and the Creator can manifest in it to the extent of a million pounds, but you will only perceive it to the extent of your participation.

Question: Is it enough to imagine unity?

Answer: Of course it is. But again, unity will depend on the collective efforts, and you will perceive it to the extent of your personal efforts. In other words, you depend on both your own and the collective efforts.

You depend on the latter because the Light will not manifest otherwise. But the intensity of the Light, the degree which will be revealed to you, depends upon your personal efforts. In other words, this common desire can reach the degree of fifty miles, but you will only feel the ascent of five inches.

Question: Can I help the collective efforts by imagining within myself the desire this effort realizes? I do not think I should be coming up to every person to tell them: “Let’s do it!”

Answer: Your desire is your actual participation in this collective effort. Others do not even need to know about you. You could be living somewhere in the North Pole. What does it matter? Even if you are not connected to them in any way, your desire is your actual participation. And if we succeed, everyone will succeed, regardless of their location in the world. After all, all our desires are mutually interconnected, and we are the participants of a single field.

Towards Perfection In Harmony With Nature

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: You are saying that a woman does not attract Light. Then how does she correct herself?

Answer: A woman does not attract Light. The men’s group attracts the Light. A woman receives this Light from the male part, and this Light produces the next degree specifically due to the woman.

It’s just like in our world: A man leaves the cave to go hunting and brings back a mammoth, and there is food for everyone. A woman produces children and protects the home. This is the actual form of nature in its proper progression and development. And people need to participate in it together, in the same natural way.

We have become distant from all this and mixed up in our relationships. This is why our society is the way it is. We need to bring it slightly into balance with nature. There are no artificial laws here. Kabbalah speaks only of one thing: Examine nature, be in harmony with it, and in so doing you will gradually attain its highest state: infinity, eternity, perfection.

The Women’s Desire As The Engine Of Creation

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: What does it mean to strengthen the collective desire of the women? How can I add my own desire to it?

Answer: In the science of Kabbalah, we study that the entire universe is composed of two parts: the Light and the vessel, desire. The desire is considered feminine, and its means of fulfillment is considered masculine. That is why it is most important to strengthen the women’s desire. Virtually everything develops through it, both the upper one and the lower one.

Even in our world we know that if it weren’t for women and their desires, the world would have ceased to exist a long time ago. A woman compels a man, forces him to work, to obtain, to build a home. She runs the household: She maintains, gives birth, and nurtures.

Thus, according to nature, a man is the supplier of energy, force, and a woman is the force that creates everything, brings up the children, educates, and cares for them. So no matter what a man does, by definition and even without being aware of it, he does it because of women who awaken these desires in him. The minus, the female part, always causes the action of the plus, the male part.

Everything in nature is arranged in this manner: animals, plants, and, naturally, us. Maybe we are unable to feel it because of our egoistic properties; we run away from it, obscure it. However, in reality the female part is always the foundation, the main determinant of our movement forward. The man subconsciously, without knowing this, asks himself whether he will get approval in the woman’s eyes as a result of his actions. It is truly like this; this is nature.

Thus, the women should take upon themselves the responsibility for directing, encouraging, and readjusting the men correctly, as a mother with young children. To the extent to which the women take on this responsibility and support the men, to that extent the men will behave differently, study, communicate with each other, and invest themselves.

We need to radically, categorically break away from what is going on in our world because it is all upside-down. We need to make the women’s part decisive, meaning to feel the women’s need for achieving the goal, while the men’s part has to be responsible for filling this need, this desire for fulfillment.

Parting In Body, Don’t Part In Your Soul!

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: You are giving us good advice. Why don’t we hear and follow it? Teach us to do as you say.

Answer: One person can never succeed. Only a group of people who have a mutual agreement can reach the goal.

“We have gathered here to establish a society for all who wish to follow the path and method of Baal HaSulam,” as Rabash writes in his first article on the matter of the group. And we must move forth guided by this method, helping each other to reach the goal. We will certainly come to it, but only to the degree of our mutual assistance, the guarantee. We don’t need anything else.

Question: But what is preventing us from doing so?

Answer: We must begin doing it here and now. And when we part in body, we must not part in soul. I truly hope that we will keep and cultivate ever more the heavy potential we have accumulated at the present convention and before it. This is the essence of our work.

The Best Principle Of Advancement

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: How can a woman find the lack of desire for spirituality if she feels that she is happy and fulfilled?

Answer: If a person feels happy and fulfilled, he or she does not need anything else. However, if one feels happy and fulfilled, but at the same time understands that his state is a lie and deception, then he has to read and listen to what is said in the Kabbalistic articles. They are talking about our future states which we will be obliged to go through either by force or by our own will. If one reads these articles, if one becomes included in the common work, if one participates in the lessons, then he or she is bound to develop additional desires.

This means that you should feel happy, fulfilled, and joyful, but at the same time you should always aspire to even greater fulfillment and joy. This is the best principle of advancement.

The Global World Does Not Divide Into Parts

Dr. Michael LaitmanThere are two forces that influence us: One drives us from behind, and the other pulls us forward. Accordingly, Kabbalah states that we have two ways to reach the goal.

1. If we make the force that pulls us forward greater than the force that pushes us from behind, we will advance in a comfortable and fast manner with understanding and desire. Then, a very pleasant and fast road to personal correction and the revelation of our perfect state opens up before us. In this case, we will perceive the current state as a turning point, a springboard for a very kind and good jump.

2. If we do not strive ahead and help everyone else, meaning all of humanity, the negative force will push us forward through suffering. Of course, taking into consideration our entire global interconnection in the modern world, we would suffer a great deal.

Thus, the people who have the desire and aspiration today must also understand their responsibility to the entire world. Their reward is also in it. To aspire toward the goal and lead forward is an enormous and noble purpose.

This is why we are creating a special portal now on the Internet, and we are collecting a huge amount of material for it. We are in touch with many sociologists, political analysts, and scientists who study the current states of society and the world in different regions. We see how concerned they are with everything that is happening.

Scientists are examining the current state of human resources that are left at our disposal such as gas, oil, water, coal, metals, and land, everything the Earth gives us. They are horrified because we are on the very edge of exhausting our resources. There are many articles already written about this, many more continue to come out, and we are collecting them. There is an enormous quantity of material.

There is also an enormous amount of material on education. We have reached a point where we are unable to raise human beings. We are able to provide them with some kind of education, although that does not guarantee that they will be able to find work afterward. Yet, we do not know how to bring up human beings, to raise a small child, the “small animal” as he is born, into a human being who lives in harmony, in a good connection with others as our global world demands now. We need to properly explain to people what it means to be “global,” in other words, to be completely interconnected.

I began my study and work with biocybernetics, the systems of the organism, meaning how it sustains itself, maintains an inner balance, and homeostasis within itself and its surroundings. It is an incredible system.

Medicine is based on this knowledge. Doctors use analysis and examinations to check the different parameters of the organism, which are in balance and which are not. There are special charts that show the existence and the state of our inner systems: pressure and temperature maintenance, the balance of electrolytes, acids, and so on. This refers to a huge block of interconnected data.

Our world society today is exactly the same. It can no longer be divided into separate countries as before. However, we are not yet ready for this psychologically. We do not understand it. We must develop and understand the global system and the balanced connection that it must maintain. This balance gives us the perception of a normal life.

As soon as one part of the common human organism falls out of its proper interconnection, illnesses immediately appear. Moreover, it can appear in different systems and manifest in different forms. We do not understand this yet. Scientists are still beginning to examine the global mechanisms.

Technology teaches us about the behavior of analog systems, global systems, and closed-circuit systems. As soon as we begin to imagine this in reference to human society, we see a horrible discrepancy with the state of affairs today. But nature is pushing us gradually toward a global worldview.
