Fulfill the Kelim

938.01Question: It is said that through pleasure and joy, a person attains fulfillment of both external and internal Kelim, which leads to an expansion of knowledge. What internal and external Kelim are being referred to?

Answer: These are the desires to be filled and to feel the Creator within oneself.

Internal Kelim are those that remain with me and always belong to me; I perceive them as my own. External Kelim are those that I must attract.

Question: How can one correctly attract these desires in connection with friends?

Answer: We work with the desires of our friends, combine them, and fill one another. It depends solely on us, on how much we see the unification of these desires.

Question: But in order to see the greatness of our friends, we have to work through obstacles. Does the effort to work above all these obstacles relate to external Kelim?

Answer: Not to external, not to internal, but to those that are being revealed. Desires are revealed within me, and I want to work with them either above them or below them.

Hold on to the Creator or to the Friends?

528.04Question: What does it mean to hold on to the Creator during descents?

Answer: Holding on to the Creator during descents is when it doesn’t matter at all how you feel about the Creator. What matters is how He feels about you. Pay attention to this.

Question: How can I focus on His attitude toward me rather than on the state I am going through right now?

Answer: It depends on how you evaluate yourself. Do you help the Creator reveal Himself in the world or not? If you help Him reveal Himself in the world, and this is the most important thing for you, then you bring the Creator closer to yourself, or you yourself come closer to Him.

Question: In moments of descent, can I hold on to my ten, to my friends?

Answer: You can hold on to your friends, but this is still an intermediate state. You must transition from it to the Creator.

Comment: When a descent occurs, the only means left are the friends in the ten, our meetings, lessons, and dissemination.

My Response: That is enough. If you gather all of this together and direct it as coming from the Creator, you can receive enormous strength from it.

Qualities that Bring a Person out of This World

509The Shechina appears within the organs, filling the outer and inner Kelim. This is called “broadening the mind.”

This is obtained through envy, lust, and honor, which bring a person out of the world.” (Baal HaSulam, Shamati 9, “What Are Three Things that Broaden One’s Mind in the Work?“)

Question: What is lust?

Answer: Lust is a person’s mature desire for the Creator in order to receive Him in his Kelim, to be filled with Him, to feel Him, and thus to recognize that only the revelation of the Creator can lead him to perfection.

Question: The quality of envy manifests as a feeling of envy for the power possessed by the Creator. In this case it is a desire for power, like a Klipa that not everyone can handle. Why is it that a Klipa is revealed that cannot be handled?

Answer: This is in the power of the Creator. What He desires, He reveals.

His desire to give a person an ascent, a descent, or a transition from one level to another all depends on His plans for the next level.

Billionaires, Smartphones, and Education

522.01Question: How do you control a child when he is alone? How do you encourage him to acquire knowledge? People often take examples from famous, wealthy individuals.

For example, Bill Gates has three children, and they were all prohibited from using smartphones and tablets until the age of 14. After the Gates children eventually got gadgets, family rules were established, and parents had the right to limit screen time.

The two sons of Twitter founder Evan Williams do not have iPods; instead there are hundreds of books in the house. The children are not allowed to freely access the Internet, and they learn only from DVDs.

What do you think about such treatment of children?

Answer: I do not consider this abuse; I see it as part of upbringing. I am for restrictions, because smartphones fill people’s minds with nonsense.

Comment: On the other hand you said that this is the smartphone generation.

My Response: It depends on the purpose and amount of time spent. They spend all their time on them, get absorbed into them, and their minds become part of the device, with no real development.

We understand human nature. Therefore there should be significant limits on the Internet cloud in which a child can be, so that only special, restricted parts of the Internet and communication are available.

Comment: Educational and developmental programs…

My Response: Of course. If such a thing could be done and implemented for children and youth, I would definitely do it.

A person is an animal; he needs to be limited. You need to show him: “This is yes, and this is no. This is how it works, and that is how it works.” Once he learns all this, you can slowly start expanding his field.

There is a lack of coordination among the adult population that should be doing everything right for the development of the next generation.

Question: In the big picture, do you think humanity does not care about this generation?

Answer: Absolutely!

Comment: Only some parents care.

My Response: And what can they do?

People get up in the morning, take their kids out of the house, drop them off at kindergartens or schools. What happens there does not matter. They go to work. In the evening they come home, sit down to watch football or something else on TV. Meanwhile their kids are already sitting with their computers. What they did for half the day after school is unclear. And that is their whole life!

The poor parents cannot do anything. They are forced to stay within these frames.

Question: So Bill Gates and the billionaires are not examples?

Answer: It is not about them. I do not think their children will turn out to be special. They will still live in the same society. If those billionaires were smart, they would understand that they need to change the world so that their grandchildren live in a different world.

Because if they do not change the world, they will not do anything for their descendants.

Question: So these little pearls they raise will still drown in this world?

Answer: Yes, of course! They will work just like everyone else. Well, they might drive big cars and have yachts. But they will still spin in this world and will not escape it. They will not have any opportunities to break free from it.

Question: Does that mean they need to change the environment of their children and grandchildren?

Answer: The whole world! The entire world is their environment. And in order to make even their descendants happy, to remake the world, they need to do it with everyone.

Question: With the whole world?

Answer: Yes. With everyone.

What does “with everyone” mean? Give out money? No. Set things up differently? No. Upbringing! It must be the first priority. It must start with the new person.

Only upbringing! It will change humanity and provide a different environment for their descendants.

It’s Better to Be Empty than Full

202.0Comment: They say that Berg gathered all the cream of society for himself, and Laitman got everything else.

My Response: It is very good. People who consider themselves scum are the nicest people. They understand that they are worthless, but they must achieve a big goal.

And this cream? They believe that they have everything, that they are so great that the Creator must, so to speak, help and serve them, and they will pay for it in cash.

Therefore a person who feels empty rather than full is better. It is said: “Beware of the poor, for out of them will come the Torah, the light.”

When a person feels empty and poor—”I have nothing in this life”—it is from this state that he comes to the light.

Exist in Attainment

550Question: Are you afraid that you might be disconnected from the spiritual system?

Answer: There is fear on my part. I am afraid.

Question: And what if it is meant to be?

Answer: It doesn’t matter. I still don’t want it. Why should it be like this?! If I act correctly, run the program, and operate within it, why should this happen? I want to attain complete unity with the Creator through understanding His ways.

You want to say: “If you are still afraid that you might be disconnected, it means you are not yet fully devoted to the Creator, you have not yet given yourself to Him with all your soul.” That is true. And I do not want this. I do not want disconnection.

In everything else, do with me as You wish! But let me attain this program so that I can justify You; otherwise, I will not be able to do so. That is, this goal—this fear of falling out of attainment—is not an egoistic fixation on myself.

Question: So is it possible to negotiate with the Creator in some way?

Answer: No, not to negotiate, but rather to compel Him to lead you further, to not let go, to hold on, to force Him, just as a small child compels an adult.

Our goal is very serious. Therefore the desired attitude toward the Creator is one where on the one hand you recognize His greatness, and on the other you understand that you can influence Him. And He desires this! Because in doing so you pursue the same goal as He does: to achieve complete mutual understanding and unity.

Question: So is there really a choice between these two things you are talking about?

Answer: The choice lies in your attitude toward what is happening, not in what is happening itself.

Question: But then why are you afraid that you might simply be disconnected? Does it depend on the students or on you personally?

Answer: What it depends on, I do not know. I do not see the entire picture of governance. I only know what I have been able to attain from the beginning of my path until this moment. And what lies ahead, I do not know.

Therefore I cannot say whether it depends on me, on the students, or on something else. I do not know, and I do not need to. It does not matter whether I know or not. What matters is my attitude toward it. I want to justify the Creator in all His ways, and for this reason, I do not want to be disconnected from attaining His program and uniting with it.

Our Only Choice

236.01A person’s spiritual need can be fulfilled only if we agree with the actions of the Creator in darkness. After all, in the light of revelation, it is easy for us to agree that the Creator has done good to us. But it is precisely in darkness and concealment that it must be said that these too are actions of the Creator.

A person feels that he has no connection with the revelation of the Creator in his world, and that this connection depends on him, on whether he strives for it or not. The Creator wants to bring a person to the understanding that everything depends on his connection with the Creator. And then the revelation of the Creator to a person is called light and connection, while separation from the Creator is called darkness and evil. And so a person progresses from evil to good, from darkness to light. Any advancement is a sequence of concealment and revelation of the Creator.

The Torah gives us a solution. If we act for the sake of taking a step toward the Creator, then we will perceive any revelation of the Creator as happiness. However, if we do not strive to come closer to Him, then we will perceive the revelation of a new state as evil.

Invite and draw the Creator into what is happening so that it becomes revealed that it was the Creator who acted is the solution.

We cause all the evil and misery in the world by choosing the force of evil. But if we choose the force of good, then peace reigns in the world. Our only choice is to attribute everything that happens to the Creator. And the more of what happens in reality that we can attribute to the Creator, the more we strengthen this force of “There is none else besides Him.”

Everything Depends on Desire and Effort

611Question: We are a young ten. We feel that we have made significant progress over the past few months while preparing for the convention. However, there is often a feeling that to truly make a breakthrough, an extreme situation is necessary, something similar to the intensity of your caring for your teacher for two months or having a non-stop convention for three months. Should we, perhaps, create conditions to truly foster an extreme situation?

Answer: Extreme situations can arise at any moment without any special reasons.

However, you must understand that entering the volume of spiritual vessels, lights, and levels happens with those who genuinely desire it, who exert effort, and pray, meaning, they ask the Creator for spiritual advancement. Therefore I urge you not to neglect this.

I have never seen anyone who could claim with absolute certainty that what one has achieved in spirituality was received as a gift from above without any effort on his part. No, it depends on a person himself, at least 90%, and the Creator adds the rest.
