According to the Magnitude of Desire

243.07Question: Is Arvut (mutual guarantee) the same for Kelim (vessels) with small and large Aviut?

Answer: The law of Arvut does not depend on Aviut. Naturally, it manifests in different forms in accordance with the level of Aviut and the nature of the Kli one has acquired.

What is the difference between degrees of Aviut in relation to Arvut? For example, Abraham and his household fulfilled the law of Arvut, because the Kelim must be connected with each other to a certain degree in order to reveal the upper light that will elevate them to some level of spiritual life.

But they hardly needed to exert effort because their souls were so pure that they understood how to reach adhesion, and through connection among themselves, to reach equivalence of form with the light.

To the extent that each person devotes himself to the group, he merits similarity to the light. And the entire group reaches such a powerful connection in intention for the sake of bestowal that the light begins to shine within it.

However, when the desire within the group becomes more coarse, then naturally the law of Arvut must be implemented in a different form according to the increased Aviut. This creates a problem: a methodology is needed; special lights are needed for the correction of the Kelim. This is what we call the Torah.

Therefore the reason for the need to attain Arvut in the first place becomes less obvious; it disappears. The increased Aviut conceals the Creator, the light withdraws, and it becomes unclear why this is necessary at all.

The desire to receive begins to demand all kinds of things for itself, and the person no longer clearly sees that the world operates according to the law of love for one’s neighbor. One’s perception becomes clouded.

This continues until people no longer believe that this reality operates according to the law of love for others.

They begin to relate to one another based on their own desire to receive, which grows, increasingly confuses a person, and causes him to descend further and further.

This is exactly what happens with us. We find ourselves in inspiration and then in descent. At one moment we feel capable of giving ourselves over and remaining in that state, and then suddenly we begin to make more animalistic, more earthly calculations.

It seems to us that this is the real world, that this is how we must live, that these are the laws we must follow. Everything aligns with the current state you are in, whether your desire to receive has increased or whether it has quieted down within you.
