Kabbalists On Kabbalists, Part 8

Dr. Michael LaitmanDear Friends, please ask questions on the passages from the great Kabbalists. The commentaries in brackets are mine.

Who Is a Kabbalist?

Therefore, come and see how grateful we should be to our teachers who impart us their sacred Lights and dedicate their souls [the method of correction] to do good to [correct and fulfill] our souls. They stand in the middle [having to decide] between [two paths] the harsh torments and the path of repentance and save us from the bottom of hell [the path of suffering] that is harder than death.

They also accustom us
[via a quick and easy path of the Torah] to reach the heavenly pleasures, the sublime gentleness and the pleasantness that is our share, ready and waiting for us from the very beginning [of creation], as we have said above. Each of them operates in his own generation, according to the power of his Torah and sanctity [the Creator’s quality of love and bestowal].

They have already said, “You have not a generation without such as Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob” [leaders who direct us to the path of the Torah over the path of suffering].

What The World Rests On

Dr. Michael LaitmanThe Zohar, Chapter “Lech Lecha (Go Forth),” Item 4: People should observe the work of the Creator. After all, all the people do not know and do not consider what the world stands on and what they themselves stand on.

What does the world rest on? It rests on desire. What are people grounded in? They are grounded in desire. The Zohar is speaking of the types of desires the world and we rest on and how we can change these desires. After all, everything that happens within our desire makes up the reality that we experience.

Our perception of the world hinges on how we change our desires. In his article, "The Creator’s Concealment and Revelation," Baal HaSulam writes that nothing changes outside of us. And it is solely our responsibility to replace our perception of this world with the perception of the World of Infinity.

The "Spiritual Simulator" Is A Step Toward The Future Society

Dr. Michael LaitmanOur goal is to bring all of humanity to absolute connection. Our spiritual simulator represents the virtual space where we feel the connection between us, and consequently it will become spiritual. By developing in it gradually, step by step, we will continuously feel greater unity. We will begin to feel the soul, the quality of mutual bestowal. Subsequently such spiritual communication will become the foundation for creating a society according to the principles of connection between the parts of the common soul, which Baal HaSulam describes in the articles “The Last Generation” and “Building The Future Society.”

This communication will continually include new systems of society and government with all of the services and relationships, starting from the level of this world and continuing on to the spiritual connections. In order to express the evolving model of society, the structure will take on various forms and create various virtual platforms on the internet to the extent that these connections are built between friends – all members of the society.

All the spiritual worlds, the Creator, and the perception of reality are revealed by changing and correcting the inner connection between us. The spiritual stimulator allows us to hasten spiritual development and head in the right direction. Individual participation in this stimulator will give a person an opportunity to evaluate, feel, and check the state of development that he is truly in.

Kabbalists On Kabbalists, Part 6

Dr. Michael LaitmanDear Friends, please ask questions on the passages from the great Kabbalists. The commentaries in brackets are mine.

Who Is a Kabbalist?

Now we can easily understand the merit [special quality and wisdom, heart and mind] of one who has been rewarded with cleaving unto Him once more. It means that he has been rewarded with equivalence of form with the Creator by inverting the [egoistic] will to receive, imprinted in him through the power in Torah [the Light of correction] and Mitzvot. This was the very thing that separated him from His Essence [absolute good and bestowal], and turned it [specifically his ego] into a will to bestow.

And all of one’s actions are only to bestow and benefit others [in which he is similar to the Creator], as he has equalized his form with the Maker. It follows that one is just like the organ that was once cut off from the body and has been reunited with the body: It knows the thoughts of the rest of the body once again, just as it did prior to the separation from the body.

The soul [the point in everyone’s heart, the aspiration for the Creator after it awakens in a person] is like that, too: After it has acquired [by correcting itself via the Light] equivalence with Him [acquired the quality of bestowal in place of its inherent quality of reception], it knows His Thoughts [as it knows its own for it has achieved adhesion with Him] once more, as it knew prior to the separation from Him due to [uncovering] the will-to-receive’s disparity of form [being opposite to the qualities of the Light, the Creator].

Then the verse, “know thou the God of thy father,” lives in him, as then one is rewarded with complete knowledge, which is Godly knowledge. Also, one is rewarded with all the secrets of the Torah, as His Thoughts are the secrets of the Torah. [“Secrets” refer to the Creator’s thoughts and desires because they are concealed from a person due to disparity of form and are attained by him as he becomes similar to the Creator.]

Kabbalists On Kabbalists, Part 5

Dr. Michael LaitmanDear Friends, please ask questions about these passages from the great Kabbalists. The commentaries in brackets are mine.

Who Is a Kabbalist?

However, understanding the meaning of the word “spirituality” [property of bestowal] has nothing to do with philosophy [since philosophy doesn’t deal with the correction of a person, and philosophers investigate using their egoistic qualities]. How can they discuss something that they have never seen or felt? [For they perceive only within their corporeal properties, whereas spirituality is attained through the property of bestowal which is opposite to corporeality and egoism.] What do their rudiments [about their ability to perceive spirituality] stand on? [It is obvious that it stands on complete ignorance.]

If there is any [true] definition that can tell spiritual from corporeal, it belongs only to those who have attained a spiritual thing and felt it [and thereby can distinguish between spiritual and corporeal]. These are the genuine Kabbalists [those who attained spirituality while living in this material world]; thus, it is the wisdom of Kabbalah that we need [to get to know this world better, understand why we exist, and how to live correctly].

Kabbalists on Kabbalists, Part 2

Dr. Michael LaitmanDear Friends, please ask questions about passages from the great Kabbalists. I promise to answer them. The commentaries in brackets are mine.

Who Is a Kabbalist?

The wisdom of truth is conditioned
[in order to understand it] by all the teachings [therefore, the wisdom of Kabbalah becomes revealed only after humanity reveals all the teachings of our world in general and attests to their limitation], and all the teachings are conditioned by it [humanity will learn the origins of all teachings precisely from discovering and mastering Kabbalah]. This is why we do not find a single genuine Kabbalist without comprehensive knowledge in all the teachings of the world [not because they studied them but] since they acquire them from the wisdom of truth itself, as they are included in it.

Sailing On The Waves Of Congresses

Dr. Michael LaitmanWe need to prepare for the convention in November 2010 ahead of time. Both long-time and new students need to think about how to use the strength that we will receive from the preparation for the convention and the convention itself. After all, the real work begins particularly after such meetings when, in response to the force that we receive, we uncover new empty spaces for work.

They are like waves. The preparation for the meeting proceeds on an ascent, and the convention itself is a steep flight upward. However, after the convention we begin to descend. We then need to come out of it into a new and more meaningful ascent than the one we experienced previously. That is, our task is to turn the descent into an ascent.

Therefore, we should start to think about the preparation for the convention, the convention itself, the descent after it, and how we will properly use that descent to begin the preparation for the next meeting. In this manner, this process will continue like breathing in our body: expansion and then compression, expansion and compression, and so on. It is exactly the way all our organs, such as the lungs, the heart, the kidneys, and so on, work. After all, every living organism lives by absorbing and excreting (see Baal HaSulam’s “Contraction and Expansion” [Hitkabtsut ve Hitrachvut]).

Thus, we need to prepare ourselves right now for the few days of the Congress, taking into account this whole process and looking at it as continuous waves, one after another, that are becoming bigger and bigger. This will continue until they sweep over the whole world, and the world will come together to a great meeting: unification.

Kabbalists on Kabbalists, Part 1

Dr. Michael LaitmanDear Friends, please ask questions about passages from the great Kabbalists. I promise to answer them. The commentaries in brackets are mine.

Who Is a Kabbalist?

However, Kabbalists who attain [in their sensations and mind] the upper [higher than the attainments within the five physical senses] degrees, attain everything [the whole universe] in its full measure [including the part concealed from people] and merit complete attainment of these levels within, which [and this attainment specifically] is called a “soul.”
– Baal HaSulam, “The Secret of Conception Is Birth”

Each who receives abundance from the Creator takes pride in the Creator’s garlands [fruit of creation]. And he who has merited in the hour of action [self-correction] to feel that the Creator, too, takes pride in him, finding him ready [in his similarity to the Creator] to receive the abundance [the Light of love and bestowal], is called a Kabbalist [he who receives the goodness prepared by the Creator].

The Drop Of Unity Is Priceless

Dr. Michael LaitmanEverything that ever happened to us, all the suffering we have gone through over the course of all of our history was for our own good. Baal HaSulam writes in Letter #23 that a person who has revealed a drop of unity with the Creator would happily chop off his arms and legs several times a day just to feel the taste of unity with the Creator at least once in his lifetime!

And that’s no exaggeration. If a person would consider how much Light one single drop of unity brings him compared to all of the most horrible suffering of this world, then he would feel that it outweighs everything!

We do not understand what the Upper Light is which clothes into the soul. We think that it’s simply something pleasant that makes us feel good. We don’t feel the true meaning of the words, “eternity, perfection, and harmony.”

He Who Justifies The Creator Is The Righteous One

Dr. Michael LaitmanAs humanity progresses, our material life becomes more comfortable, but the “human” within us feels more and more unfulfilled. As a result, we are regarded as “sinners” because when we suffer we blame the Creator for it. Only if we feel that the Creator gives us pleasure, can we justify Him. The sages said: “Righteous is he who justifies the Creator and says that He gives only goodness to the world.”

In other words, we have to correct ourselves to the point of feeling that the Upper governing Force brings us good rather than the evil which we experience now. Our life consists of two parts: the life of the animate body and that of a human being as a part of the surrounding society. And we can correct ourselves to such an extent that we can experience a perfect life in all its aspects.

A person who has corrected his perception is regarded as righteous since he will justify the Creator, seeing His kind governance. This governance was good and fair from the start. However, we are created as egoists and perceive everything negatively with a “minus” sign (despite the fact that we are surrounded by the positive field of bestowal, the Creator) because we are opposite to Him. Our job is to correct ourselves, thereby making our perception positive. Working in this manner we expand our perception from a tiny “plus” to a great one until it becomes an infinite “plus” just like the Creator Himself.

These degrees of my coming closer to Him in the sensation of good governance of the world (according to their quality, quantity, volume and strength) are the very steps of ascension, the degrees of righteousness. Baal HaSulam writes in his Letter 59: “A righteous one feels unbroken delight, praising the Creator who created for him such a good and joyful world.”

In other words, it is impossible to feel bad and justify the Creator at the same time! Kabbalah does not call for any restrictions. Everything is defined solely by the sensations carried deep within a person’s heart. If he suffers, he will inevitably condemn the Creator; and if he is happy, he will bless Him.

Therefore, we have to correct ourselves so as to feel all His goodness and bestowal; as a result, we will become righteous without a doubt. The righteous is not the one who suffers silently and willingly, but the one who corrected himself in order to feel the truth!
