How To Reveal The Concealed?

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: If what we need to reveal is concealed, how should we do it?

Answer: This is a good question because the feeling of the concealed comes to a man as he looks for this concealed force. This concealed force is called bestowal. If a person looks for it, he feels how distant it is and how it evades him and remains concealed. Then he begins to work in order to attain it.

If this force becomes the most important, greatest, and most respected thing for him it means that he has already acquired the greatness of the Creator. Then a person begins to feel that he doesn’t even need that the Creator be revealed to him and doesn’t even expect the concealed to become revealed. He only wants to bestow back in order to delight the concealed.

Even if he doesn’t know that it bestows, and doesn’t even know that he bestows, and the concealed doesn’t know that he bestows, it is enough for him. Thus a person also becomes concealed from himself, like the force that he wants to reveal.

Then he reaches an equivalence of form with this force and becomes internally familiar with the force called the concealed. It is not revealed, but a person knows it since he has reached the same state. This means “from Your actions we will know You.”

Preparation For A Prayer

Dr. Michael LaitmanThe Book of Zohar, “VaYikahel,” Item 141: Therefore, it is forbidden to kindle a man’s voice during prayer, so that the upper voice, ZA, will be in it, since the speech rises to Malchut and unites with ZA through the Malchut, receiving a voice that is mitigated from ZA. Then the prayer is fit for reception of the abundance, and the speech of the upper world need not be heard through a man’s voice.

There is a rule, “there is no vessel without the Light.” Everything is done by the Light only, while we only exert ourselves, which is the precondition for every action. Every single action is done only by the Light that works on the vessel.

We are only required to exert ourselves; we don’t do anything but only increase the intensity of the deficiency. This is the reason we are in our world, since this is the only place where we can perform different experiments and actions, which from a spiritual perspective are not considered actions. They only bring us to a state in which we can ask for the correction of the vessels and for their filling.

This is why our world is so special. If we didn’t exist in this reality we wouldn’t be able to influence our spiritual ascent in any way, since all the actions are performed only by the Light. So how can I, being on a certain spiritual level, influence something that is higher than that level? By which means can I do this? I have to be detached from the spiritual world in order to ask to be raised from one state to another, from one level of clarification and new correction to another.

There has to be a reality that is detached from the spiritual ladder, which is where I am, in which I can always prepare for the prayer before a prayer. This is the reason that the corporeal actions in our world are so beneficial to reach a certain state and to ask for the Light that Reforms. We shouldn’t think that we don’t need our world, that we can do nothing but simply connect internally and that this would be enough.

This isn’t enough. On the contrary, the more a person does in practice, the more desire, pressure, and experience he builds up inside him as a result of all his actions, which eventually add up to a cry, to a prayer before a prayer. The prayer before a prayer is addressed to the Light with a request to form the vessel, the desire. The prayer itself is addressed to the Light so that it will fill the vessels, which means that it will actually allow us to bestow.

When The Book Reads You

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: What should we wait for and expect from The Book of Zohar during the lesson?

Answer: I am not familiar with a book that is more picturesque, beautiful, and romantic than The Book of Zohar. It grasps all the qualities and senses of a person and plays upon their strings.

There are various types of literature: poems, novels, historical and scientific books. But their writers are unable to express something more than our very limited material level. And our words are not prepared to convey anything else.

But when you are reading The Zohar you arrange your interior according to what The Book says, The Book opens a door into yourself for you. And there, deep within, it gives you life, paints a picture, gives an example of what is written in its words and letters.

Nothing in reality is equivalent to The Book of Zohar; nothing rises to that height of artistry with which it was written. The book, Shamati touches something inside you, The Study of the Ten Sefirot, the Gemara, also produce certain actions inside you. And you can read the Shulchan Aruch (The Code of Laws) and feel inner movements according to the mutual cooperation between the Light and vessels. But all of this is “prose” compared to The Zohar, compared to its “lyrics” mixed with unmatched feeling.

And Baal HaSulam, with his commentary, entered into the flow of The Zohar, connected to the souls who wrote it. When I read the Sulam Commentary, I felt more and more clearly that this is the result of the work of all ten authors who wrote The Zohar, and in our day this is expressed only through Baal HaSulam. It’s as if they are singing in a choir, in a chapel, completing and continuing each other, and each one continues the music and inserts his notes precisely where required.

This is what a real book is: spiritual revelation within a person. The Book prepares a person, directs, arranges, and fills him. It does everything, and the person only feels the result of what The Book does in him.

The Book activates the person and passes him through a series of states. You don’t need anything besides that. It’s developed in you, changes you, and leads you forward. All parts of the spectacle that you feel within yourself are called The Book. These are not some pages that are printed in a print shop.

Opening The Book

Dr. Michael LaitmanThere is a force in The Book of Zohar we can use. But in order to discover the inner potential of this book, we have to be on its level to some extent. So how does this mechanism work? In legends and fairy tales the hero finds a secret chest that he opens with a big heavy key. Which key will open the secret of The Zohar for us? What is the key that fits every lock? It’s the equivalence of form. This is the key that we put into the keyhole. It’s only by the equivalence of form that we can open The Book of Zohar. This is the basic key rule.

Later, of course, we need the group and the connection with the friends, etc. in order to reach an equivalence of form with this book. Thus, we open The Zohar and read it according to our equivalence of form, according to the love and hate that are in contrast to one another.

This means that it isn’t that simple to really open the book. If we open the book it doesn’t mean that the book really opens up before us yet. It all depends on what happens between us. If we are connected, we are also connected to the book and then to the same degree we can attain it and feel the group of Rabbi Shimon, the ten friends, the ten Sefirot. It isn’t about people but about their essence, about the quality that is in the desire. Thus we begin to know them, are attracted to them, and a bit of each of them is revealed in us.

We have enough power. By annulling our ego and in the connection above it, we establish a connection that helps us discover what is written in The Zohar. We establish the foundations, the infrastructure, a common place, since the spiritual spot can only be collective. Here we become equal to the first level of the revelation of The Book of Zohar, in the intensity of our connection above the interruptions, according to the law of the equivalence of form.

In order to do that we will gather at the February convention and we make great efforts and pay a lot of money while giving up many other things in order to reach this general gathering. All this effort should bring us to an ascent and to connection. This is how it was arranged from Above: If we use the means that have been prepared for us, we reach the desirable outcome.
