Prayer Is Judgment Over Yourself

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: How can we go about the “internal dissemination" and what should we do throughout the day to achieve it?

Answer: Correction happens by virtue of an action called “prayer,” which is the revelation of the true desire that demands fulfillment. This work is called “praying,” which translates as “judging yourself” or discerning your inner essence: Who am I, what do I want, do I have the right desires or not, and when will my deeds be similar to the deeds of the forefathers, meaning when will my desires be similar to the ones that Kabbalists described in the prayer book?

This is not simple at all. The prayer book was created by Kabbalists, the sages of the Great Assembly who were on the highest spiritual level. They left the prayer book for us so it would serve as an example of what we have to attain in our demands.

Prayer can only be for unity, and this is called “the prayer of society” or “the prayer of many.” There is nothing else for us to pray for because all the negative events and all problems in general that are revealed in the world come from lack of unity. That’s because unity is the Creator; it is His quality. That is why this is the only thing we should think about.

Unification regards all the people in the world, both men and women. In the end everyone must unite together in one global system, the common soul of Adam HaRishon. When I study, judge, think, ask, and answer, in reality I decide just one thing: Will I bring this entire system to unity? After all, through unity we correct everything.

Besides this force during the study and the desire for this to happen, there are no other means to bring about correction. Everything else only brings more corruption. There is either one thing or the other, and nothing in the middle. All of our actions either bring correction or harm. Even if you spent one moment sitting there and not doing anything, the time went by. You wasted it and did not use it for correction, and that means you brought about destruction!

Therefore, this desire for universal unity must always be alive in us. It is our “inner dissemination.”

An Oasis In The Internet Desert

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: How will The Book of Zohar bring about the correction of the Internet?

Answer: The Book of Zohar can help correct the Internet because people using the net are looking for a real connection. However, they do not understand their own desire yet and it seems to them that it’s enough for them to just make contacts, to chat with each other, and to entertain themselves with games and other such things.

But later people will see that this doesn’t help, that all of this is limited and a waste of time that does not bring any benefit, and that the “social networks” do not really connect people with each other. Nevertheless, as long as people are spending time there, they reveal the evil contained there. They reach the understanding that all of this is false, that it exists for the sake of making a buck, and is an attempt to lie to and rob each other. They will understand that this entire Internet connection only harms them.

It would seem: How could the connection between us harm us? But the matter is that we are egoists and cannot connect well and usefully. We cannot create a network that brings us pleasure. And this will bring about the realization of evil.

Then we will have to give people the explanation that inside of this Internet network there exists one small network that lives by different laws. The people that have gathered there desire to attain goodness. This is exactly what our television channel’s motto says, “We’re connecting to goodness.”

There are completely different rules and people operating there—people who want to be brothers. And by virtue of that they reveal the upper life, instead of simply hugging and attempting to keep everything polite and pretty on the outside.

These people attain the state where inside of their relationships they begin to feel the upper, spiritual life, which is perfect and eternal. They reveal the Creator, the spiritual world, the upper force that is concealed inside of that network!

The Only Thing That’s Constant Is The Approach

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: What is the main principle that our children have to internalize?

Answer: Children have to understand that everything always changes in a person and in the world, and the only thing that’s constant is the approach which says: There is no other force that can help a person advance through life besides the force he receives from the environment. He does not get the forces to advance from the ego, nor from the influence of the mass media, nor from the influence of the external environment, but only from the group of people that gives him a specific value system, the understanding of the Creator’s importance. In order to attain the Creator, the quality of bestowal, a person must always advance by faith above reason, receiving from his environment the desire, aspiration, and understanding of the importance of this goal, and the feeling of worry about how to attain it.

In essence, a person always takes on the form of his environment, meaning he absorbs its value system, its conception of the future, its very essence. In other words, he becomes included into the external Kli or desire, acquires the quality of love, and comes out into the unification of all the souls—Malchut of the World of Atzilut.

Only by correctly including himself in his environment can a person reach the Creator. The inner unity that is present there is due to the fact that the Creator chose these people and united them with each other. This is Malchut of the World of Atzilut, the Shechina where a person immediately finds the Creator.

Therefore, the new generation, our children must internalize that this is exactly how we advance. This is our path. There are no descents, but only ascents. There is no confusion. Everything taking place is necessary for making new discernments.

Where Can You “Buy” Aspiration?

Dr. Michael LaitmanWhen reading The Zohar we have to focus on the connection between the souls because that is exactly where the breaking occurred. We have to imagine the corrected state in which we attain unity among the souls.

The souls are the aspirations to reveal the Creator. Every person who has this aspiration has to desire to increase it by connecting with others. Then he receives the same aspiration from them, and that way he grows.

It is known that with the help of hatred, passion, and the lust for power, we can be impressed by the friends’ aspiration to unite with the Creator, to reveal Him. This is exactly what we want to “buy” from them.

Therefore, during the study each of us desires to attach to himself the group’s entire aspiration to reveal the Creator. This is possible only in the unity between us. After all, I cannot steal a friend’s aspiration. But if I connect with him, then each of us already has the common force. And then, once we combine enough forces, each of us can attain the revelation of the Creator.

However, a connection between us cannot emerge only because I want to unite with my friend’s aspiration. I do not have the strength to connect with him. I need the Light to perform this action.

We are in a broken state where there is no connection among us. I want this connection to emerge, and then with the common force, I attain revelation. This is what we have to think about while reading The Book of Zohar. Everything we study in The Zohar are just corrected forms of connection among us.

The Mission Of The Nation That “Aspires To The Creator”

Dr. Michael LaitmanOur task is to ascend together up the spiritual degrees so that inside of us we will unite the corrected desires that are filled by Light. Then, when our world group of “those aspiring to the Creator (Isra-El) becomes filled with His knowledge, it will “overflow past the boundaries of Israel” and will fill “the nations of the world.”

That is, all of our groups all over the world, all those who have a point in the heart and aspire to revealing spirituality have to unite together and attain the state where their spiritual attainment will become so powerful that it will overfill their vessel (desire) and will splash out into the desires of the “nations of the world.” This is called “bringing Light to all the nations” and becoming “the priests of the Creator” (Mamlehet Kohanim).

Obviously, it is necessary to prepare the world for this in some way by disseminating the knowledge of Kabbalah throughout it in the external form that people are ready to accept. But most importantly, “the dissemination of Kabbalah among the nation” happens on the inside, without people even being aware of it. After all, they do not have the ability to learn it consciously, the way those who actively study it do.

Yet, from within, people will begin feeling the influence of the Light that fills us. They will feel that we have some kind of fulfillment from which they will also begin receiving a small glow, and then they will be attracted to our group. The prophets said about this that “the nations of the world will take the sons and daughters of the nation of Israel onto their shoulders and will bring them to Jerusalem” (Ira Shlema, meaning “the perfect city,” or “the perfect fear” of the Creator).

Therefore, for the sake of disseminating Kabbalah we must first of all take care of own correction and fulfillment. And it’s not because we want to receive it ourselves, but because then we will be able to bring Light to the whole world and that way we will give the Creator pleasure.

The formula is this: We have to correct ourselves in order to conduct Light to all the other souls and bring them to the final correction. That is how we fulfill our mission with the goal of giving pleasure to the Creator.

All the other souls are unable to correct themselves other than with the help of the souls of “Isra-El,” meaning the souls in which the desire for correction awakens. Only these souls are able to independently become corrected and then become a conductor of Light for all the other nations. That is to say, they have to attach all the other souls to themselves as Galgalta ve Eynaim attached AHP. Then a full, integral vessel (desire, Kli) is formed in which the Creator can dwell. Meaning, the Upper Light will fill these desires.

That is exactly how we should view our own correction. We shouldn’t wish it for ourselves, but must aspire to give pleasure to the Creator through correcting the nations of the world.

Don’t Add Too Much Spice!

Dr. Michael LaitmanWhen reading The Zohar we must always think about the connection between us, and based on this constant, powerful thought we should just slightly hear the text, as much as it is possible as an addition, a spice. The thought about unity has to be powerful and unceasing. Only to the extent we are able to do so should we add the text to it, meaning the thought about it and the sensation of it. It has to be done only on the condition that this foundation, the constant thought about unity, does not disappear or grow weaker.

We can easily be in the right intention if only we know that The Zohar, just as all of the Torah, speaks only about the types of connection between us. Therefore, everything we study and everything we now want to see as a result of our work – unification among us, types of our connection, its special characteristics, everything happening between us – this is what The Book of Zohar tells us about.

Therefore, we are talking about the same point – the point of unity between myself and others. This point contains all the possible kinds of connections between me and everyone. This is what the Torah talks about.

Therefore, if I direct myself correctly, then I understand that it is talking only about this: What kinds of connections exist among us? How can I connect? How can I attain this?

In that case we want to attain what we study, even though we do not know it. Out of the aspiration to attain it, to unite into an integral desire or Kli , and to discern all the kinds of connection that the Torah tells us about, the Light that Reforms comes and creates that connection, bringing it to light. Then we reveal it in actuality.

Soldering By The Upper Light

Dr. Michael LaitmanIt is necessary to constantly remember that we are reading The Zohar only in order for our desires for unity to connect under the influence of the Light. All I can do is aspire toward unity, expecting that by reading The Zohar and Talmud Eser Sefirot, the Light will connect us together. I have to imagine that besides me, everyone is one. And I am the only one who has to become included in everyone.

I am unable to do this alone. This “click,” connecting me with everyone, can only happen as a result of the study. That is how when soldering two wires we place them together and influence the place of contact with high temperature, smelting them with a welding alloy that connects them.

That is why I bring myself to contact with the group and imagine that I connect with them. I expect that the study will solder us in the point of our connection.

The Formula Of Infinity
What Is Light?

The Unity That Gradually Comes Through

Dr. Michael LaitmanWritings of Rabash, “What Does It Mean the World Was Created for the Torah”: Torah and Israel are the same thing. At first the Torah is instructions on correcting evil, called 613 recommendations on correcting 613 parts of egoism. After the correction, the Torah is potions of the Creator’s Light, corresponding to each of the 613 corrected organs of the soul.

Question: How is it possible to simply explain what is Israel, Torah, and the Creator, and what their unity means?

Answer: We are in an unchangeable state, as it is written, “I did not change Myself.” This single state is called “Malchut of the world of Infinity.” The Creator wished to do good upon the creation, and thus He created it in the corresponding state of goodness. But in order to feel that goodness, creation has to go through various twists and turns that will raise its desire or appetite by bringing about despair, troubles, and worries, or stated differently, various sensations that are opposite to the sensation of the Good who Does Good. That’s because otherwise creation would not feel Him.

However, in order to make sure that the sensation of the Good who Does Good together with His oppositeness do not become a double blow for creation, the Creator arranged things so we would collect the unpleasant sensations drop by drop—gradually, in small potions. “Ouch!”—and that’s enough. Then “Ouch!” again, and that’s enough. That is how we advance along the path, discerning our desire and learning what is good and what is bad.

As a whole we have to be sensitive and perceptive to good and evil. The more sensitive a person is to the realization of evil, the higher his level and the deeper he penetrates into the matter of creation.

Therefore, the unchanging state that the Creator made already contains the desire to enjoy for the sake of bestowal, corrected by the right intention, as well as the Light that fills this desire and intention. There everyone is one without any differences. This state is called “Israel, the Torah, and the Creator are one.”

Israel (ישראל) is a vessel, a Kli with the intention of bestowal to the Creator. In other words, it is “straight to the Creator,” Yashar – El (ישר-אל). “Torah” is the entire Light that corrects and fills it. And they are one because they have attained the sate where they are absolutely equal and are in adhesion.

Equality and unity of the Creator and creation is the only form in which they exist. And every creature gradually reveals this form once the desire to reveal it awakens in him.

By bringing to light the emptiness in our current state, in the events of this world, the Creator gradually brings us to the feeling of emptiness, futility, and purposelessness of our lives. And at the same time He awakens the beginning of the spiritual Kli inside us, the embryo of the realization of evil. My state isn’t despicable because it is nauseating to the taste, but because I lack adhesion with the Creator.

I come to realize this gradually. At first I don’t understand at all what exactly I need, like a child who does not know himself why he is crying. But gradually the details come through, become clearer, and surface in me, and then I already begin hearing something.

Then I come to the group and the teacher, and spend several years subjecting myself to the influence of the Light in various states, which I undergo together with the teacher, books, and group. As the process continues, I become slightly more perceptive to the realization of evil. The evil lies in the fact that I do not want to join the books, the teacher, and the group. When I begin to feel that this is exactly my evil, then I start moving in the right direction toward correction.

At the same time I understand that I have to unite with the friends, receive awakening from them, acquire their mind and feeling, and dissolve in them. I become included in them, in their desires and intentions that are aimed at the goal. And upon this inclusion I have to evoke the Light that Reforms, or in other words, study together with them and attract the Light. If this happens, then I accumulate the necessary quantity and quality of efforts and reach the correction of my Kelim.

Of course, this process consists of an entire series of actions. After all, I cannot tolerate great corrections or great leaps in one go. That is why there are many degrees that divide into more tiny degrees. They are the means by which I attain the state that is described by the verse, “Israel, Torah, and the Creator are one.” I already exist in this state, but it surfaces in me gradually.

We would not be able to tolerate it all at once because this unity is too opposite to us.

The Formula Of Infinity

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: The Book of Zohar talks about the inner states of my soul. But I don’t understand: What state do I have to imagine?

Answer: You have to imagine the state of gradual unification among everyone, the unification of all of us together. This is your soul. It’s when you try to unite everyone into one whole. If I make efforts to this end, this is my soul. If someone else does it, then it’s his soul.

Each of us is like a cell in a body that is trying to attach the whole organism to it. By doing so you acquire the entire body or desire and it is called your soul.

If for now you are only taking a part of the body and connecting to it only to a specific measure, then you have a partial soul. This means that you are on the path, on the ladder of the degrees.

But when you come to the conclusion of the path and attain the end of the ladder, the highest degree, Malchut of Infinity, there everything merges into one without any boundaries and with no end. However, each of us imagines the same Malchut of Infinity from his personal point of view because every person has his own root of the soul. Therefore, not one person becomes nullified when this happens. No one cancels their independence.

The only thing we have to discern while reading The Book of Zohar are the forms of connection among us. Each separate cell has just a desire. This is the entire wisdom of Kabbalah—it is the connection between desires because that is how they create unification, the entire might of Malchut.

For example, a computer does not contain anything besides a plus and a minus. But billions of connections between them form all of its might and abilities. Likewise, the entire work of our brain is based on countless connections between a plus and a minus, the will to enjoy and the will to bestow. They can unite to a greater or lesser extent, to a different degree, or not unite at all. There is nothing besides this. Yet out of the enormous accumulation of all the possible parts, consisting of different variations of connection or its absence between a plus and a minus, you get tremendous wisdom and truly Divine might.

Therefore, this is exactly what we are discerning, the forms of connection between these tiny parts or souls.
