All the work is done by the Light, which returns to the source. But for this I first need to realize my evil, to feel that my desire, my qualities, my state cause me harm. I feel so bad that I am about to explode from this demand called MAN, a prayer.

However, this demand must be properly structured: Why do I wish to rid myself of my evil? Is it only to make myself feel good, or I am not able to tolerate this evil because it is not me that it harms, but others?

When I discover that my qualities are harming my neighbor and the Creator (and this can only be discovered through working in the group), I find myself before two uncompromising facts. On one hand, I value bestowal very much and wish to attain bestowal to the Creator through bestowing to the creatures, as it is written: “From love for the creatures to love for the Creator.” But on the other hand, I feel that I am very far from it, and this causes me suffering.

The reforming Light (the Light which returns to the source) gives me this realization, and this is called preparation, through which I realize my full measure and achieve an absolute prayer, desperation from my lack of the quality of bestowal, participation, mutual guarantee, and love for my neighbor, without which it is impossible to attain love for the Creator.

Man purposefully lacks the need for bestowal so he would feel that he needs it! Because only then will I have an opportunity to someday escape my egoistic desire, and when I attain bestowal, it will be the real bestowal.

But if I could see pleasure and a certain personal benefit in bestowal from the beginning, instead of being bestowal, this would be a concealed reception. This is why it is necessary to advance from the opposite by working in the group and preparing your desire. Question: Does our request to the Creator become stronger because we repeat it many times?

Answer: We advance only thanks to our requests. If we want to hasten our advancement, we have to learn to ask! Because there are no other actions in spirituality but to raise a request (raise MAN), all our actions are aimed at raising our first prayer to be accepted Above.

It’s like writing to some organization or to a girl you’re in love with. You send her letter after letter, until she finally answers you. But if she answered your 100th letter, you can’t say that she answered that letter necessarily. She answered all your 100 letters that influenced her! It doesn’t mean that you could have sent her this 100th note and that’s all.

This is how we develop. All these years you develop in order to finally raise MAN, a prayer, to stabilize the right request and only that. All the previous rehearsals were so that you would feel and discover exactly for what you should ask. The Light doesn’t need that, but you do! You’re doing that for yourself and by that you are creating your vessel, your desire, and then the Light will come and correct it.

A prayer is a desire which appears in the heart at every moment. The main work lies in understanding your prayer: what I want, what I should want, and whether my prayer has reached the heights of the forefathers. In other words, I examine what my heart is feeling. After all, I am not its owner, and I must place severe guards and protectors over it to watch it and build a system to influence it.

Only my environment, my friends, rule over my heart. If I create this environment, it will be able to control it, but I can’t control it on my own. This is my only freedom of choice.

It follows that my prayer completely depends upon the environment, and it must reach my “half of the coin” with its help, a one hundred percent desire towards the Light, bestowal. For this reason, with a correct attitude towards the environment and a demand for them to convince my heart to have the desire to bestow (the importance of it), they’ll create the correct prayer in me. It’s in this way that I’ll complete my half of the coin and finish my work.

It turns out that instead of working on fulfillment and with my heart directly, I work with the environment, directing it so it’ll influence my heart and make it want the right kind of fulfillment, meaning to become filled with the quality to bestow, love for one’s neighbor. This is exactly what I am lacking now. When I complete this entire process, I find the “second half of the coin,” fulfillment.

And here “the common and the private are equal,” everyone is absolutely equal. After all, every element is equally important in an integrated analog system. No one is big or small, rich or poor; everyone must earn their half of the coin and reach a complete specific desire which is only attributed to them.

This is why no one is more special than others, greater or smaller in this kind of work, all friends are absolutely equal. After all, if the smallest correct desire is missing, we’ll not achieve the perfect half of the coin. And this is why it’s necessary to care for everyone.

Israel (Yashar-El) is a person who has a point in the heart, pulling him toward the Creator and forcing him to begin this work. The work comes down to acquiring a desire, because only it is necessary from man’s end. We usually look for fulfillment – this is our natural aspiration. But here we must change our approach completely.

In our world we always lack fulfillment because we always have a desire for material fulfillment: I want one thing, another, and a third, and I look for ways to satisfy my desire.

But in the spiritual world, everything’s opposite. The fulfillment is always present, but there is no desire! Therefore, I have to work on the desire, the necessity, instead of working on the fulfillment as in our world.

Therefore, Israel, called “A head for me” (Li-Rosh – derived by changing the order of the letters) is a person who understands that his work lies in searching for the desire, building it, and forming it correctly, so it would suit the second half – the fulfillment, which is already present. After all, the Creator already fills the entire earth.

100% of man’s work is called half of the perfect state, of the world of Infinity. The second half is 100% of the Light, which fills these 100% of desire.

On every level it is possible to attain a 100% desire according to that level, in order to be filled with 100% of the Light belonging to that level.

Therefore, first of all we need understanding and mutual support, realizing that we must work on the desire rather than the fulfillment. Years go by until a person changes his approach, leaving behind the one he got used to in our world.

It turns out that there is nowhere for a person to run, but only to delve deeper inside himself. That is why it is called “inner work” or one’s inner world. It’s because one has to delve deep inside one’s heart, instead of chasing some external effects. Everything depends on the desire in the heart.

Question: How can I awaken the group to such a great deficiency that they’ll be ready to go to the desert to connect by tomorrow?

Answer: The only thing that we need is an internal worry. All other things stop working. Our perception of our world transforms into being closer and closer to spirituality, and we notice that there are subtler, so to speak, “not corporeal” forces operating in it.

There are such actions, which can not be described as simply mechanical—they are already more “spiritual,” relating to the force of thought, and emotional care and concern that takes place in both heart and mind. In our world today there are forces that cannot be attributed to physical forces or electromagnetic fields.

If you want to bestow to others, the main influence is executed from within the thought and desire, and through them we are all tied to one another.

Of course it’s possible to attain this also through some physical actions, but that’s very difficult. We see that according to the coarseness of the force, more time and energy is needed in order to activate it. We observe this from the development of the planet Earth. For example, on the still level, the creation of Earth took millions of years to create. For the appearance of vegetative level, another millions of years, and then for the animate world, a little less time than that was required. And when the stages of development reached man, then in total, only a few tens of thousands of years were required.

To the extent that the force is of more quality, so the time of its development is shorter: the quantity changes to quality. If you want to influence the friends in a fast and strong way, then it’s worthwhile that it happens already tomorrow. The main thing is the worry from the heart, from thought and desire.

We don’t use this enough. And it’s especially here that the force of Arvut is concealed. It’s not signatures on paper contracts or in having common property. Everything is clarified internally, with the help of the shared force: our desire, as learned in concern, and with intellect, as learned in intention, in order to shake up and awaken the network that connects between us. It’s like when you take a piece of clothing and shake it; we also need to shake the connection between us, so that the vibrations from our heart and mind will pass through it.

All of this happens as in a game. It isn’t real, after all, as we haven’t yet reached it. We only want it to happen, until in the end, it really happens. And work like this with respect to the friends, we must carry out in relation to the Creator. This means to bring to spiritual mating (returning the crown). We are coming closer and closer to this until we receive one direction in seriousness and thoughts even though we are opposite to it. The spiritual coupling is called Zivug de Haka’a, “mating by striking.” This is because it’s a real collision. Otherwise it won’t be felt.

It is written, “one’s seed is also blessed,” since from one side there is resistance and from the other side the connection breaks through. And both of these opposite attributes create the feeling of mating, the clarity of the connection, the point of unity, the spiritual orgasm.

At every step of the way, we have to attain a demand, a plea, a prayer. Nothing else works here besides prayer—a request for the upper force, the Light, to carry out the action.

Many years go by until a person reaches this understanding and begins to feel this way. The mind won’t help here. This attitude toward oneself and the world, which he wants to reveal, must become revealed through feeling on the inside, naturally and instinctively. A person has to understand that this involves only the work of the Creator, the upper Light that will influence him.

Every action that he wants to make for his progress signifies a request and hope for the Light’s influence, so it would affect a person, make changes in him, and give him a different attitude to reality. And according to this, reality will become revealed and then he will feel and understand the Light’s actions.

The Light will lead him through different states, from which he will “see” (feel and understand) the relationship between him and the Source of the Light.

We must always be expectant that the Light will influence us. This is the most important thing of all. And we shouldn’t simply wait for it, but desire it passionately, constantly hope for it, and be ready and open to this influence. I cannot do anything besides this. This is our primary work.

If people get together and live for this hope for this change to happen to them with the help of the Light, then they can really awaken each others’ hearts and unite in this request. Then their demand really will attain the quality that is necessary for the Light to respond to it. After all, we don’t want to reveal the Light for our own sake, but in order for it to pass through us and influence others—those who don’t know how to ask on their own yet!

They are also waiting for this change under the influence of earthly suffering, but they do not know how to speak one language with the Light and therefore they suffer on their small level.

The Light awakens them deliberately so they would become soil, “dust under the feet of the righteous,” while the righteous would rise to the level of Bina in order to demand Light for all those who are lying in the dust…

Everything we do in this world for the sake of living in it, and all our discernments, which eventually bring us to the question of life’s meaning, gradually narrow down, like a cone, until we reach the very peak, meaning the intention: What do we want from all of this? Intention is the most important thing there is.

In the material world the intention arises naturally and is determined by a person’s nature, his desire. Therefore, we don’t pay attention to it. Only if we suspect that someone is lying to us do we begin to ask about his intention. That is, the behavior we see might differ from the concealed intention.

But if we act simply, without deception in the material world, then the act and the intention always go together. However, in the spiritual world it is always opposite. First of all, it only seems to us that we are doing something in spirituality. In the material world, the world of actions, we are simply used to the fact that the more we do, the more we advance, such as when we build or create something. We can end up with good results or bad, but the results are achieved through actions.

It is written about the spiritual world, “The end of the action lies in the initial plan.” This can be explained in the following way: that only after the actions do you begin to think and understand what happened. Actions eventually bring us to the understanding that they do not produce anything, that the only operating and creative force in the spiritual world is the Light, while all we have to do is ask it to act instead of doing something ourselves.

A person thinks that through his spiritual work, with his own efforts, he can do good deeds, that by virtue of inner pressure and concentration, he can find bestowing intentions within himself, attain a good attitude and love for the neighbor, spiritual aspirations. He thinks that if he pressures himself more, then there, inside he will find the spiritual forces and will reveal the spiritual world.

But the work is actually opposite: It lies in demanding an action from above, the Creator’s work, as it is written, “Call upon those who search for You!”

If we want to build a place for the revelation of the Creator, then each of us and we altogether have to awaken love between us. However, we should be careful that this does not erase all other sensations. Everyone should critically evaluate his attitude so that “love covers all transgressions.”

This inner work is called the awakening of love in the hearts of friends. It could be manifested outside in some ways, but the main work is going on within a person. And then, as it is written: “Through the love of creatures to the love of the Creator.”

From this world, we get a corrupted impression about love and misunderstand what it is. Love means that I want to help the other reach the best possible state, desire to give him all good; this is the sign of love.

Whatever this love is—love for the Creator, creatures, or friends—its greatest aspiration is to reveal the Creator, which fills all the desires and hopes. This applies to all people.

And if we are engaged in dissemination and wholeheartedly try to offer everyone, in a form suitable for them, the opportunity to discover the power of good, which rules the world, this is an expression of our love—even if we do not sense this love in our hearts, and just act and try to connect our intention to this action seeking to reveal to everyone the method of the revelation of the Creator, and we oblige ourselves to add to that warm, sincere attitude, the thought about the benefit of man. It does not matter what kind of people they are, the worst or the best, because the revelation of the Creator cures all evils.

This will mean that I aspire to love them although I feel no love towards them.

Even from our world we know how love is shown; if parents love their children, it is obvious from their attitude because they want only good for their children, and their successes make the parents happy all the time. Love is manifested in the desire to bring the loved ones to the best condition—the revelation of the Creator. And it is trying to do it with all the warmth, and the sign of the correct action is joy. Everything depends only on the intention. Anyone can open a book and study—from a philosopher to a person who sees this book for the first time and doesn’t understand anything in it. But each one will interpret it in his own way, the way he wants to.

The difference between us and all the others: the clever and the stupid, the scientists, historians, philosophers, or kitchen maids, is that, when opening the book, we want to tune ourselves in such a way that will allow us to penetrate through it. I want this book to tell me about myself, I want to reveal my world inside it.

And external readers don’t do this; they cannot see behind printed letters, they seek human wisdom in this. And that’s why they perform all kinds of studies on these texts: what they talk about in terms of notions of our world, which historic events, which style they are written in—as far as the usual material mind can apprehend.

The difference between internal and external reading is your willingness to enter the text and reveal yourself, your inner life in it. But you can’t blame people for approaching these books externally (The Book of Zohar, the works of Ari and so on). Because an inner need to reveal the internal world hasn’t developed in them yet.

The point in the heart is not present yet, the starting point of the line of connection and the beginning of spiritual revelation. If you don’t have this desire, you can’t reveal it.

When you do have the first point, the surrounding Light can already stick to it. It still cannot enter it, it only surrounds it from all the sides, but because of this we already can’t be in a state of rest. We feel that we exist in a field of forces of the Light, which shakes and swings us.

“Love your neighbor as yourself”—this quality is our only goal, the spiritual sensation that is meant to fill all our desires. This means concern for the state of the world, for how much all people, all humanity, will advance toward a good state.

And clearly, certain influences will seem good to them and certain—bad, and they might resist and refuse to accept us, or even look down on us like small children who don’t understand anything. After all, they think we have different views of the goal, of the future of the world.

But this inner worry about the world must be alive in all our actions and thoughts, and it must guide us. If a person feels this concern, that means he is attuned correctly. And if he pursues various other goals and this concern or worry does not guide him, is not present inside, this is a sign that the intentions “Israel, the Torah, and the Creator” (a person aimed straight at the Creator, the Light of correction, and the Creator) do not connect within him. That is the only thing we act and study for.
