Baal HaSulam writes in his article “The Peace” that the society punishes man for taking something he is not entitled to, but there is no punishment for failing to give the society something he has to give. It is the same on the spiritual path: Every person receives his conditions from Above. Hereafter, if you fail to use the received conditions fully, by one hundred percent, it is like stealing from the group.

This is also referred to as “drilling a hole in the common boat.” For this reason, every person should ask himself whether he is doing everything he can.

There are no events in the Torah that already happened or will happen in the future. They must only become revealed to us, while the states themselves exist each on their own spiritual degree.

We feel good when we strive to reveal them, but when life pushes us, we suffer. This is why we want to reveal these states now, and we attract the Light that discloses them.

For this reason, we should not care how The Zohar describes the events, whether it uses Kabbalistic terminology or regular words to tell about the Israeli tribes and journeys. I should always discern only one aspect in the story: the connection between souls, not the bodies, the connection between friends, meaning between our spiritual sparks, our desires to unite.

And all the other desires “drop”; they, as though, become irrelevant to us by our having secured the mutual guarantee, and they do not impede our unity. We unite above the corporeal desires and reveal that which is written in The Zohar in our connection.

The Zohar tells us how the connection between us will be revealed to the extent of the gradual attainment of the mutual guarantee. This connection will manifest step by step through images described in The Zohar. The Book speaks of reality that exists within us. We only need to gradually reveal it, like opening one window sash at a time.

During our reading of The Zohar, we should constantly exert effort to see the connecting system of souls or the spiritual “network” behind each word. Behind the names of Shimon, Reuben, or Gad, the “right hip” and the “left hip” of Israel’s camp, certain actions, or “snakes” there stands not a bad or good desire, but its motion and its aspiration relative to the action of the moment.

Therefore, it is desirable to perceive The Zohar as a story of our connection, a story about the picture or pattern that is expected to unfold between us. There is no doubt that we always reside in this state and only have to uncover it. For this very reason we read The Zohar: to aspire for the revelation of its narrative.

And now, we need to do our best to connect this story with ourselves and not to be tangled in it thinking that The Zohar is talking about some distant places and events. All of this is occurring right now between us: within our connection, mutual guarantee, and our collective movement.

Question: Is there a distinction between men and women with respect to preparing for the World Kabbalah Convention 2010?

Answer: There isn’t any difference in preparation. We must prepare our hearts. We should know the congress schedule, topics of all the lectures, seminars, discussions, and cultural programs in advance, and we should learn all the songs. Let us anticipate a spiritual gift!

If we prepare ourselves at the corporeal level and know everything in advance, then it is all for the best. We will open our hearts to the internal surprise, to the revelation of the connection between us, men and women alike. And then, the Creator will be revealed between us. Amen!

Question: In order to feel the Creator, I need something external, the connection between us, and not my “self.” If this is so, then why did He create me as such?

Answer: He did it so that from this form, exactly as you are with all your predetermined qualities, you would start analyzing, examining, studying, and learning who the Creator is independent from Him. Right now you exist outside the system of the spiritual world. Hence, like an independent researcher, you can embark on finding the Creator.

For this purpose, we exist in our world, completely cut off from the spiritual system, even its impure part. My job here is to conduct an independent investigation (analysis). From any spiritual level, I always can return to this form, in my body, in order to ascend again and continue my exploration of the spiritual path.

This world is important since in it I seem to be independent. I exist at the animate level and, thus, I do not see the Creator and am cut off from the spiritual phenomena. When I desire to become human, I enter the spiritual system, and if I don’t, I return to the animate state once again.

Thus, I have an opportunity to exist on two levels: animate and human. Hence, the Psalms say: “Lord preserves both man and beast.”

Question: How do we, in our correct interconnection, get to know the Creator?

Answer: There is a vessel, and there is the Light. The Creator can only be revealed in the vessel, in the creature. The creature is a will to receive (a desire), which can experience good or bad feelings, the presence of something or the lack thereof.

On the other hand, the Creator is an attitude. To know the Creator means to learn His attitude to us. And what we must get to know is not Him Himself, but specifically His attitude dressed in the matter or the Light clothed in the vessel. The Light becomes clothed in the vessel when the latter acquires its property.

What is the Light in its essence? We don’t know. But clothing of the Light means that it imprints itself in the vessel. For this, the Kli should be “soft” or, in other words, should feel the lack and desire the Light. After all, the Light leaves an imprint in the vessel, opposite to itself, and the vessel must decipher this contradiction in the reverse direction, returning from negative to positive in order to understand the Light.

Therefore, we need to equip our will to receive pleasure with a restriction (a screen) and an intention (the Reflected Light). We can feel and correctly interpret the Light along with its forming the screen and the Reflected Light in us. As a result, we feel our own form, but it is the Light that created it in us, and this is why we call its form the same name, the name of the Light.

In the same fashion, HaVaYaH is the form of the created being named after the Creator. This is the only way for us to know Him, through the form, while the essence of the Creator remains unattainable for us.

When a person is awakened, he is led to the group where he starts to realize that his choice lies in unification with others, and that the Creator “has placed his hand on a good fate.” In other words, a person has to unite with the correct environment, and receive from it spiritual values in order to work in the best manner from the point of view of the friends. That is what is called “a good fate.”

If I act in accordance with my own mind and emotions, it harms me since it doesn’t aim me at the spiritual goal. However, if I act in accordance with the values of the environment, constantly examining myself in relation to my connection with the friends, then I gain the good fate offered to me by the Creator.

My choice, my self-analysis, with every step I make lies in to what extent I lower my head and accept the power of the group’s opinion over mine. Having accepted it once, I permanently accept the friends as my guides, feeling that I am last in line, following them.

Some time ago, a small group of people came out of ancient Babylon. They called themselves Isra-El due to their aspiration “straight to the Creator.” Then, 2,000 years ago, this group broke and mixed with all the nations that also once were Babylonians.

Now, due to the resulting mutual interpenetration over 2,000 years, everyone’s spiritual data has intermixed. A new group Isra-El (Yashar El, those who aspire towards the Creator) is appearing and beginning to form from the modern Babylon.

Now, this group has to realize the condition of the mutual guarantee (Arvut) among them. And if there are parts in it that do not carry out the mutual guarantee, they cause a great deal of harm to the connection of all the friends.

Because of these irresponsible people, the group referred to as Isra-El (which desires to reach the Creator, similarity to Him, and His revelation) is not able to accomplish it. We have to make sure that we do not have “viruses” like that in this group.

Question: I feel that my spiritual goal, my “child” is held hostage by others. How do I get it back?

Answer: You don’t need to get it back, but rather, you need to make sure that these people are loyal to you. God bless if you worry about it as if it’s your child. For instance, if your son were to end up in the hands of enemies, can you imagine what you would feel? After all, he is now among ruthless rivals, and harming him brings them tremendous pleasure.

Question cont.: And they are my friends?

Answer: Yes, they are. That’s why you call them friends. They are those with whom you must unify. In fact, if you were united as one whole already, you would feel that you are in the World of Infinity now. These are the initial rules, and it’s not worth trying to color the picture pink. Our egoism hides much more horrible aspirations.

Do you feel now how great your concern should be? Your offspring will remain in the hands of the enemies, and they will constantly look for the ways to harm him, but so that he wouldn’t die and only suffer more. Your only chance is to turn their hate into love. Hence, you must worry only about how to make them your friends and get them to love you.

Think how to achieve this. In the group, this concern has to be present and felt. Instill it in each other; ask for it during your studying because a prayer during the reading of Kabbalistic texts is the most effective.

It’s time we understand that we are doomed. Everyone is sitting on the hole he has drilled in the common boat and is barely holding on to cover this hole. Every minute, here and there a new leak opens, and try as we might, we are still sinking.

There is no way to advance toward the goal like this. I have to realize that I depend on all the others and visualize this dependence. If I don’t try to “edit” the picture, it will look horrible, but this is what will prompt me forth for sure. “Exodus from Egypt” lies essentially in the revelation of our total dependence on one another. We can’t remain in our egoism anymore.

After all, everyone holds a tube with the intravenous infusion for the others in their hands and doesn’t want to turn it on. That’s why everyone lives on a tiny illumination (Kista de Hayuta), in hopes for authentic life.

My life is at stake! Except existence in this world that will soon expire, I have nothing, till I make the friends to turn the IV on. I simply need the healing fusion, the Light that flows through my soul and gives it the sensation of spiritual life.

However, my friends don’t let the Light flow. What do I do then? Wake them up and inspire them to open these channels. If I succeed, I will live; if not, I’ll die. And this is what we must do all together.
