The Beneficial Revelation Of Hatred

Dr. Michael LaitmanWhen I’m dealing with a friend like a worker when we are involved together in dissemination, when we are working on translations or with equipment, or in any kind of work, I supervise him and he is under me. These are our corporeal situations. We understand that we must manage business in this manner.

But the moment we enter the group, there are no differences between us. We only look at our “points in the heart,” only at the yearning of each one for the Creator. And then the revelation of hatred is beneficial, since then I have with what to turn to the Creator for help, since by myself I cannot do this.

On the level of our world, we find ways to get along: We go to a bar together, sit together, clarify the relationship between us. In spirituality, this doesn’t help. We must have the Upper Light.

Thus, as much as the hatred and evil is revealed between us grows, the request for the Upper Light will grow as well. We raise our MAN (prayer, Mayin Nukvin– female waters) to it; we ask for help and yell until it arrives.

It can be that help doesn’t come, since we still don’t have enough recognition of evil. After all it is said, “The world was created either for the complete evil or complete righteous.” First you need to attain the level of “complete evil.” This level is obtained when you long for the goal and see how far away you still are from it. And according to the measure of your longing, you determine the measure of the distance.

There are those who passively belong to the group and don’t participate in the shared connection. They don’t even imagine how powerful this work is, that it’s an ocean of all kinds of attributes and feelings, great pressures, that are impossible to even get close to it, this work repulses people ad nauseam, to the state of being completely powerless.

All of these states bring us gradually to the recognition of evil through the general support that is so important here, through mutual Arvut, when you feel the urgency of the friends, and it obliges you. Then you are able to attain the level of “complete evil” and discover your ego among the others. And this ego won’t be beastly, since the connection needs to be directed to the attainment of the supreme goal and only on it.

We aren’t a corporeal group that wants to assemble together in order to pass time, to play football, or build a mutual business. Our goal is different, to attain the attribute of bestowal and mutual love.

And immediately it is discovered how opposite we are to this. We must feel that this oppositeness draws our full attention. Thus, people who long for the Creator understand the condition that everything that happens to us happens only to discover these states.

And the Light helps us. It is thus structured and descends together with the desires (they are found one against the other), as it bestows on the desires only to the measure that they are able to cope with it, able to bear these feelings of oppositeness. And in spite of all these unpleasant feelings and the great disappointments, are able to yearn for connection and the goal.

There is no other system. It is built on the oppositeness of the two forces of nature: reception and bestowal, the Light and the desire. There is nothing else. It is a practical and scientific system. The only thing that should be taken into account is that we need to be more serious in its realization.

Everything Comes From The Creator

Dr. Michael LaitmanAs a result of the process of correct interaction in the group, a person feels more that he is a great sinner and egoist, that he hates others, and he has all kinds of negative desires and thoughts, intrigues, etc.

He reveals this in himself to such an extent that he begins to cry to the Creator to correct him. He starts realizing that only the Creator can correct him because he feels that everything comes from the Creator, and there can be no other source from which this would have resulted, even from its very nature.

He reveals the Creator in the opposite form, as the creator of something bad. But at the same time he reveals that the Creator has created evil in him on purpose in order to force him to turn to Him, and then the Creator corrects him.

Why was it necessary to go this way—to create evil so a person gradually reveals it in himself and turns to the Creator with a plea for correction?

The Breakthrough To Freedom Through The Thorns

Dr. Michael LaitmanWe begin to work with the environment from a period when it seems that everything is fine and that we manage to connect with it and are empowered by it. For the time being, a person doesn’t see his desire to receive as his enemy. This period is called the “seven years of plenty.”

During this time, a person doesn’t really need the Creator, and he begins to think about Him only when despairs from this work. He learns and works with others, but then begins to understand that nothing works.

It isn’t that we don’t receive an egoistic filling. We can cry out about this from the start. What we see is that we will not be able to attain connection. We begin to realize that connection is possible despite the ego, against it, above it. But we don’t want it! So, we despair and fall. We begin to think: “What do we need all this for?”

We grow weak. We fall asleep and lose interest in everything. It is as if we cut ourselves off from life, and both the spiritual and corporeal life seem tasteless. If the desire disappears, we have no power to move ourselves. This is how we are built. The biological system works according to this principle.

A person sees that he has no control over himself. Gradually, his eyes open up, and he begins to look for how he can affect the states he goes through and advance. He understands that the advancement isn’t in feeling good, as if he has taken some drug.

This is why if a person works only in order to receive some egoistic filling from it: to know more, to understand, to feel, or to decorate his life, the Torah can become the potion of death. He checks his state according to the way his egoistic engine turns and thinks that he is advancing. After all, his ego is receiving the energy of life.

However, if he begins to work with the right environment, the Light that comes operates on him and ruins this idyll. He begins to examine himself not only when it comes to feeling good, but he also tries to find out what the result is and what he is working for.

The Light constantly influences a person. Eventually, he understands that he is working for his ego, and this kind of work becomes tasteless. He wants to rise above it by receiving new values from the Light. He doesn’t want to be a small beast that obeys its feelings: A pleasant feeling is good; an unpleasant feeling is bad. You receive a bit more energy. You rise, you lose energy, you fall asleep. A person objects to carrying on this way.

Finally, he decides that the most important thing for him is the connection with the Creator, no matter what he goes through. These are the corrections that the Light that Reforms performs in him, providing him with such values. In a way, it is already work above reason. Although it is still egoistic, in slavery in Egypt, it is just before the exodus to freedom.

Now, a person feels that he is in true exile, under the blows of Pharaoh. He begins to clarify things gently: “I am ready to connect with the Creator since this connection is pleasant, but what should I do if it is unpleasant? Will I always be able to perceive the connection with Him as good, despite the bad feeling in my desire to receive? Perhaps it is even preferable because I can be sure that I am not biased in my ego so that I won’t run before everyone like a thief and shout: ‘Catch the thief.'”

A person just wishes to work for his own benefit as little as possible in order to not receive any reward in the ego, but the Creator plays different “tricks” on him to show him that he still is working for himself. Thus, he clarifies things more deeply, until he realizes the need to rise above his desire to receive and to stand between it and the Creator in order to make decisions by himself.

Thanks to this, he acquires a head (Rosh) and a spiritual Partzuf. The Creator is the upper Light: the Surrounding Light and the Inner Light, and a person makes an independent decision with regard to it, above his feelings and his desire to receive. This symbolizes a person’s exodus from Egypt to freedom.

Steady Ascent

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: You mentioned that the convention lessons lack pressure. In what way is the demand during the morning lesson different from the demand during the lessons at the convention?

Answer: We don’t come to the convention in order to learn, but in order to connect. Of course there will be the element of study, all kinds of drawings, explanations of the “worlds,” “Sefirot,” “Partzufim,” etc., but this is not the main thing.

The main thing is to attain the next level of connection between us. It disconnects and renews, disconnects and renews, so that this reconnection will already be on the next level and stronger.

We are anticipating a series of meetings in Colombia, Chile, Brazil, and New York, and we need to go through these stages in such a way that they really become a steady ascent, one after the other.

Training On Demand

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: Initially we assumed that the psychological training would last three hours. At the convention, we dedicate one hour. And now you say that it is possible to implement it during a quarter of an hour before the lesson. What is the difference?

Answer: These classes constitute a person’s intention, which he needs to formulate; he must spend so much time per day in order to remain in that spirit throughout the day.

There are people who are constantly in this state, those who return to this state, and those who are not able to stand it. Their ego is still so large that even though they make a small effort, they already need to exit this state, they are not able to remain in it.

Everything depends on what state the person is in as he advances. You gradually develop within the bestowal of the upper Light. Only this gives results and nothing else.

When you yearn to go forward, the Light influences you. It changes you and next time you will enter it with more sensitivity and will do so more easily. You are already very close to these attributes, and you will be immediately included in them. Let’s suppose that in the morning you awake like beasts, exist in “separation,” and immediately enter this world, the world in which the force directs everything.

You begin to grasp your day in a completely different way, to see what is happening everywhere. The more you receive information from the sensations or from anything else, you see how the Creator plays with his creatures, and how he wants to bring them to independence and simultaneously to also resemble Him.

One Instead Of Billions

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: What should a person do in order to annul himself? How can this be implemented practically in the group?

Answer: This is why there should be one instead of ten. Instead of millions or billions, there should be one. This means that we should feel like one. If you cannot annul yourself before the friends, you will not be able to advance, and to allow the Light to be revealed. The first restriction (Tzimtzum Aleph) is the condition according to which everything operates, and then comes the next part, the next stage.

Question: What should I do in order to annul myself? What should I think about?

Answer: You should think that you want the friends to attain everything, and this is the only thing that makes you happy. How does a mother think about her child? “I want him to have everything. It doesn’t matter what will become of me, what’s important is that he will be okay.”

A Person’s Pure Benefit

Dr. Michael LaitmanThe ones who are given the chance to slip are those who have attained the specific degree and must reveal their evil inclination that can be corrected. But when we are shown a bit of our ego, we immediately want to run away and hide. Your heart is being hardened, your energy and inspiration are taken away, and you accept it. You are no longer in the right kind of spirit; you walk around all beat with a sour expression on your face.

I understand that people experience different states. But the group is able to create an atmosphere, where a person can easily overcome these descents within a blink of an eye—overcome them on the spot and begin to value bestowal over his attitude.

You must be grateful for having your spirit taken away from you, and that your ego is no longer participating in your spiritual action. Indeed, in this case your actions most definitely will be for the purpose of bestowing.

I do not want to do anything, I am not in the right mood, and I don’t feel the importance, but with my mind, I understand that if I were to do this, it would be an action of bestowal. I do not have any energy or desire to do this, but I can ask for it. And when I am not even able to ask for it, I can come to a group that will awaken me and give me a little inspiration.

But I do not ask for fuel, for the right spirit! After all, if I were in the right kind of spirit, my ego would immediately want to do these actions. The thief will run in front of everyone shouting: “Catch the thief.” This is why I want to keep my bad mood! Of course, I do not try to remain in despair, but I do not ask to have it corrected. I want for my egoism to stay distant from what I am doing now.

And then, whenever I do something—it will be an action of bestowal. After all, this bestowal did not happen out of my desire to enjoy, but only because I received strength from Above: the sense of importance and the ability. The Creator did all this through me: He robed in me and carried this action out. This is pure benefit called similarity to Him and adhesion.

And let the feeling remain as bad as it was. I do not ask to have it corrected. This will protect me from adding my egoism to a spiritual action. For this reason, as you continue going forward, the animal inside you will keep feeling worse, but at the same time, the man in you will keep feeling better because you are able to do actions of bestowal over all these unpleasant feelings. So you divide in two parts.

A Changeover In Consciousness

Dr. Michael LaitmanWe’ve always believed that the love of friends, the group, and dissemination are kids’ games, that we are obliged to deal with them. Many of us still think: “This is about the upper world, while we have to deal with some sort of dissemination. Why should I offer this to people? What do I need this for?”

But gradually, under the influence of the upper Light, in our consciousness, the recognition of what is happening changes in us. Only after several years does a person begin to understand that the implementation of the method is fulfilled only in his connection with others, that the spiritual world isn’t somewhere over the ocean, or somewhere else, but that it is here. You just have to change yourself and your internal perception—now you want everything for yourself, but you have to reach the opposite state, to exit yourself, and instead of inward, aim outward.

The recognition that everything depends on your internal attitude towards the world is a very meaningful change over. It really takes the Light a long time to influence us.

Every lesson, every addition, is another tiny portion of the Surrounding Light that influences us from a distance bringing us closer.

There are great changes taking place all the time. But there are so many that it takes several years.

In the past it took many years, let’s say 20 years. Today it can be limited to several years. It may very well be that when the masses reach it, even by just a little, by yearning and making efforts in this direction, it will take less time.

Still it is a changeover in consciousness, in our recognition, since you don’t think in terms of time and distance any more as if the upper world is somewhere far away. You already understand that it is here, and it is simply your attitude towards it and the way you think that create it.

The Informational Layer Of Reality

Dr. Michael LaitmanMan, by nature, doesn’t want to simply live out his life but wants to understand it: What drives him, through what program, and to what purpose does it lead? And this is why he studies life, or in other words, studies Nature.

I dwell in the world and am exposed to the influence of various factors. However, how I am being governed is unknown to me. A little child is driven by internal impulses, and we can clearly see how the innate nature brings him into motion. But in adults this is less apparent

The thing is that you can only research something if you’re at least one step above it. Then it’s as if I “absorb” the object of investigation into myself, perform an analysis and synthesis, and draw conclusions. This is possible because my rational and emotional perception is higher than the object of my study.

But what if I’m inside Nature, which works on me and is the source of my thoughts and desires? In this case I don’t know what will happen to me in the next moment, how my life will unfold, what will happen with the world in which I depend on everyone. There is information here that I cannot bring into my reason, into my sensation.

How can I keep all this under control? After all, I’m totally confused; I’m not drawing from life all the good that could be extracted. We see this firsthand in humanity, which doesn’t know why it lives, how, or for what. Even prominent, intelligent people ultimately end up following along their own rut.

Thus, we can only truly examine our life on the condition that we’ll be above it. But how can this be done? Here we need some means of ascent above our nature. Then, while still remaining as me, I will, at the same time, look at myself from above, from the side of universal Nature, from that realm where all the thoughts and desires are generated.

There are such people in the world who truly feel what will happen tomorrow or even in a few years. Today, scientists are also acknowledging the presence of a certain informational layer in our reality. Within it, the fates of each of us and of the world as a whole are laid down, the entire program by which we develop. However, we’re unable to establish a connection with it on our own, and this is why even the immediate future is unknown to us. And most importantly, we don’t know how to act correctly today in order to secure this future.

In past generations, we weren’t particularly drawn to knowing the “program layer.” Life wasn’t so complicated and confusing yet, so it was quite sufficient for us as it was. It is written: For with much wisdom comes much sorrow….” Today, however, by turning a blind eye to what is happening, we don’t temper our suffering, but on the contrary, we strengthen it. I have a problem: I don’t know what will happen tomorrow and the day after, how to behave so that everything would go right—and yet, knowing this is absolutely necessary in our days.

The course of development has brought us to this stage at which we must reveal the program of life. Without it, we’re facing the threat of dangers and a lot of suffering. And anyway, we have sufficiently matured and developed to such an extent that this question gnaws at us and calls for our intervention in the program. In the end, we’re simply obligated to reveal all of Nature, ascending towards the informational layer integrated within it. Only then will we make decisions and deal with problems according to the acquired knowledge and we’ll secure a good continuation of the path.

The Purpose of Thoughts

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: During the workshop, does the elimination of my “I” happen at the level of feelings? I felt that the thoughts that arise in the process of trying to rise emotionally prevented me.

Answer: Everything happens only in the feelings. If disturbances arise in the thoughts, there is not enough feeling. This means that you still need to move forward, deepening and relating to the thoughts of how to correct disturbances, that is, the correction of your yearning.

But you will never be able to advance through thoughts. They exist only for slightly modifying the feelings, focusing, relaxing, and removing. But everything takes place only in desires because desires are matter. Thus, thoughts are only intended to work with desires.
