Awaiting The Miracle Of Revelation

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: How can it be that a person has been studying for years but still hasn’t attained the prayer, the plea for correction?

Answer: We see that the development of the still, vegetative, and animate levels of nature as well as man took place over billions of years all told. They say that the universe emerged about 15 billion years ago. The earth has existed for about 5 billion years. The first people on earth appeared about 200,000 years ago. And man began his spiritual correction starting with Adam HaRishon, 5770 years ago.

It’s not an accident that these processes span over time. There is a specific order here of the revelation of the breaking and its correction. And looking at this development, we have to understand that it demands a great amount of actions to be made inside of the common Malchut so that inside of it some kind of tangible, significant change would occur.

Therefore, even though we yearn to attain the goal as fast as possible and desire to reveal it now, at this very moment, and to immediately reveal it in all its perfection, nevertheless we have to be very patient. And despite anything, we have to expect the arrival of the Messiah any moment now, meaning the arrival of the general force that will correct us and complete all of the correction.

But the days go by, and every new day that comes, corrections happen inside of us. Day and night unite together and that is how we advance. That is to say, we have to understand that Malchut of the world of Infinity, which we reveal, contains such a multitude of actions that their revelation has to happen gradually, one step after the other.

We are unable to understand and feel all at once the entire depth of the vessel or desire that reveals the Creator. Think of the kind of revelation we are getting ready for—it is the revelation of the Creator! This is a non-human force and might with a great number of shades. This is so grandiose that we don’t even understand what we are talking about. That is why the preparation to this revelation happens inside of us by such small steps.

When these steps will be revealed to us later on, we will see how many of them were there! We think that moment by moment, day by day, or even month by month, there are no changes happening. But later these changes will be revealed in us and we will understand what they really did to us, and generally, what happened over that time!

One Spark Is Not Enough

Dr. Michael LaitmanOur evolution in this world occurs in stages. For thousands of years we have developed from the still to the vegetative, animate, and speaking levels. The wisdom of Kabbalah explains how we ascend from the speaking level and up when we acquire free will, an opportunity to consciously participate in our own development. This participation brings us to the understanding, awareness, and revelation of the Creator, and in the end we become equivalent to Him.

This is what our goal entails, but we reach it by way of gradual development instilled by us. What exactly must we do on our part?

On the whole, creation consists of the Light and the vessel. The Light affects the Kli, desire, and transforms it. What then is the desire’s part?

Desire, which resides in our world, has a spark of Light that penetrated it due to inter-inclusion at the upper degrees. The Light and the Kli merged, and together descended into this world. As a result, there is a spark in the vessel now that yearns for the Light, aimed not only at the Light itself but equivalence to it as well.

If this vessel or man who feels the yearning for the Light desires to evolve in the right way, he must bring himself under the influence of the Light. The spark alone is not sufficient to change oneself and become similar to the Light. It is necessary to draw the effect of the Light to oneself.

Thus, the method of Kabbalah offers us the means to cause the Creator’s actions toward us. Hence, there is an expression of “the work of the Creator,” meaning that the Creator is working on us. There is none else besides Him. But these acts may be realized only “upon our request,” which is regarded as a plea for correction (MAN). We ask to be unified in our desire with the desire of Bina. This is the work: to prepare ourselves to demand correction from the upper Light.

A person who has lit up with this passion is regarded as “human” (Adam) since he acts driven by the desire to be similar (Domeh) to the Creator. But if he doesn’t have such a desire, he is regarded as being at the “animate” level of evolution for now.

There Are Many Surprises Up Ahead

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: Does the root of the soul depend upon what kind of connection exists between the souls?

Answer: There are many conditions applying to the connection between the souls, just like in an integral system where every element is connected with all the others. We are unable to even imagine this.

Suppose that one person has to be corrected, and because of him thousands upon thousands more elements of the common system become involved in the process of correction, meaning souls and creatures on various levels. This is somewhat similar to an embryo’s development. It grows in a very strange way: Suddenly a tail-like extension is formed, then it disappears, and certain forms get replaced by others.

Why do we have to go through all of these states until we take on the form of man? And that happens even in an embryo! Why do we have to receive nourishment through the belly button? Isn’t that strange? In essence the intake of food through the mouth also looks strange, but at least that comes from equivalence to the spiritual Partzuf that receives Lights (tastes, Taamim) through the mouth, Peh which is in the head, Rosh of the Partzuf.

It’s senseless to ask about this because the ways of development, the conditions and interconnections all come from the connection between the souls. Why do the still, vegetative, and animate levels of nature have to develop precisely the way they do, producing such great varieties of fish, birds, animals, thousands of species of plants, and billions of different creatures?

All of this comes from the development of desires and combinations between them. It is written, “The end of the action lies in the initial plan.” If we did not have to attain total inter-inclusion in one another at the end of the action, in the final correction, then we would not need such a variety of species on every level of development on the still, vegetative, and animate levels of nature.

All of these levels appear and disappear to the degree correction takes place according to the given period of development. That is why certain species of animals and plants have already vanished from the face of the earth, while others are only now being revealed.

Every day scientists discover new species of animals that were unknown before. Did they exist or not? They did not. They are only now being revealed. Suddenly this form begins to be revealed and to exist because our desires, which manifest in various combinations, present a new vision to us in the form of these creatures.

Previously these connections between the desires did not exist and it was as if these creatures did not exist. After all, they are only an external appearance of specific combinations of our desires.

Many more things will become revealed. But in the end all of this comes from the same principle.

Under A Press Or In The Incubator?

Dr. Michael LaitmanThere are many problems awaiting us on the spiritual path, and that is because spiritual development happens in spite of our desire and is aimed at the state opposite to ours. We must “operate” on ourselves in a sense.

But this is completely realistic. It can be done by means of the wisdom we acquire during the study and the opportunity to attract the Light contained therein. Therefore, we have the necessary means and the instruments. That is how we advance.

Baal HaSulam writes the following in “The Nation”: All animals rely on Nature completely. They are unable to develop it in any way or influence themselves without it.

Animals advance forward instinctively to the degree they change from within according to Nature’s inner and outer commands. The still, vegetative, and animate levels have advanced forward throughout all of history. For example, over 15 billion years, even the inanimate matter underwent changes. The vegetative and animal kingdoms, which developed and altered their species, changed even more so. Man, in turn, began developing last, over the course of the last 100 to 200 thousand years. That is how nature leads the world forward.

As human society develops, it is once again going through the same levels: still, vegetative, animate, and human, but already on the human level. And man is once again moving instinctively: pushed by nature, he goes from one state to the next coercively. From looking at history we see how nations suddenly “flare up,” holding revolutions and transformations.

That is how we develop until finally, the Human grows in man. This level is appearing in humanity before our very eyes, and it differs from the previous levels by the ability to take the law of development into its own hands, to become similar to the Creator, and to rise above nature and accelerate it. Nature advances us at a specific rate until the end of the 6,000 year period using the “developmental press” on the path of suffering, while Man takes these forces into his own hands and develops faster by his own desire. He does not see the law of development as evil, but as goodness that he desires. That is how he realizes himself as a Human, one who is similar to the Creator. He takes an example from the Creator, learns what the Creator does in creation, and wishes to act the same way.

At one point people studied the process of how chicks were produced. Then they learned to make incubators and achieved development that corresponds to their needs. As a result, every day we have the necessary amount of eggs and no longer depend on the laws of a chicken’s development.

That is exactly how we have to act with ourselves. This is why Baal HaSulam continues: However, that is not so with man, who is endowed with the power of thought. By virtue of the wondrous quality of this force, he is freed from nature’s bonds and develops it. His function is to observe nature’s actions and do his work in the same way it does.

As we know, “Nature” (הטבע) has the same Gematria as the Creator (אלו-הים).

He does not hope to receive ready-made chicks from nature, waiting for a chicken to arrive and make the eggs hatch, but makes an incubator that warms the eggs and produces chicks for him, similar to a real chicken.

In addition, Baal HaSulam writes the following in the article “Peace in the World”:

There are two powers operating in the process of development:

One is the “power of the heavens,” which guarantees that everything evil and harmful will return to being good and useful, but “in its time,” meaning by a difficult and lengthy path where the “object of development” experiences pain and horrible suffering, being under the “developmental press” which crushes him with unfathomable cruelty.

The second is the “earthly power,” meaning people who have taken control over the laws of development into their own hands. Because they are able to become completely free of the bonds of time, they significantly accelerate the arrival of the end, meaning the final ripening and correction, which is the end of development.

The Accelerating Human

Dr. Michael LaitmanOur spiritual work is called “the Creator’s work.” But why is that if we are the ones who have to carry it out? This work is difficult, confusing, and demands great efforts. We devote so much time and effort to it, in fact giving away our entire lives…. Yet it is called “the Creator’s work” because in doing our work we take Him or Nature as an example.

Everything moves forward and returns to its root, including the still, vegetative, and animate levels. However, these levels develop by the program inherent in them. It is impossible to change that program, nor is it necessary. Besides, there is no one who could change it because these levels do not have freedom of choice. They are devoid of understanding and the perception of what happens to them and who governs them.

But onwards, beyond these levels, the human being develops. This is not just a creature on two legs, but a being that is able to take the law of development into his own hands and realize it independently. This is the “human” degree (Adam). In order to fulfill his purpose, he must take the Creator as an example, and not wait for the Creator to develop him like is done with the still, vegetative, and animate levels. A human is someone who wants to develop on his own, at an accelerated rate.

That is why he observes the Creator’s work: What does He do to creation? Where is He leading it? What does he want to make out of us? We want to develop on our own, faster.

Baal HaSulam illustrates this with the following example: A person does not wait for a chick to develop from an egg that’s warmed by a chicken, but establishes the mass production of eggs in the necessary quality and quantity in order to satisfy his needs. He does not ask the chicken about what it is able or unable to do, but builds incubators that provide him with chicks according to the rate of development he has taken into his own hands.

The same thing is true for the spiritual path. If a person does not want to sit and wait for the “developmental press” to push him toward the goal, then he discerns the goal and the means of attaining it in order to take those means into his own hands. He also builds an “incubator” or “greenhouse” inside of which he can place himself in order to be under the influence of laws that accelerate his development.

By searching for similarity to the Creator, a person learns how the Creator works on him, and accordingly builds an environment for himself, a “greenhouse,” in order to accelerate the process of his development so the same forces of development would operate in his hands. This is already “the path of Torah,” the path of Light, which is the developmental force. Accordingly, a person then needs Light that is more powerful than the one he receives during the natural course of development.

On the spiritual path we are called “the Creator’s workers” because we take Him as an example and realize this example on ourselves. We build a special environment, a “greenhouse” that enables us to absorb a greater force of development and tolerate its influence in order to develop ourselves.

Moving Beyond The Red Line Into A New World

Dr. Michael LaitmanFrom the world of Infinity, “State 1,” we develop (descend) down to this world, which is called reaching “State 2.” From this state we have to rise back to Infinity, into “State 3” which is identical to State 1. There is only one difference between them: We exist in State 3 being aware of this fact, consciously. Hence, it is considered to be 613 times greater than State 1.

We developed in State 2 over the course of billions of years in the still, vegetative, and animate forms. Until we descended down the worlds of Atzilut, Beria, Yetzira, and Assiya, time did not exist at all. Time appears when we reach this world and then develop over the course of approximately 15 billion years, finally arriving at the “human” degree.

The difference between the “human” and the still, vegetative, and animate states is that man does not exist in nature! From the beginning, a human being is essentially a beast, albeit a more complex one. He turns into man only at the degree at which he feels that he is a global, social being.

That is, he no longer lives in an individual, egoistic form as he did previously before reaching our current degree. Rather, he has to join in the spiritual development and climb the steps he once came down by. From the general, social development we have to transition to the spiritual development with full seriousness and responsibility. This is the essence of our work.

While we were developing egoistically, we did not encounter any problems because we evolved unconsciously, naturally. But since we have reached “the red line,” meaning the state whereby everything turned to be globally and integrally interconnected, it is a sign that we must assume another form of existence, in harmony with nature.

Believe It: All Of This Only Seems To Us!

The Spiritual World Is Born Between Us

Dr. Michael LaitmanMany things have appeared and disappeared from this world as technology developed and replaced them with more perfect things. However, now a different process is starting and soon all of these cars and planes will disappear from our sensation and will lose all importance.

Only forces operate in the world: Direct Light and Reflected Light, together with the will to enjoy. And this entire picture somehow appears to us on the screen in the reverse part of the brain.

That is why people’s workplaces are shifting to the computer keyboard. One might ask: What can they possibly produce on it—clothing or a house? They create some kind of artificial values: respect, power, scientific knowledge, and other things that are detached from bodily needs (food, sex, family). This is how we create a connection between people, and these efforts are now being expressed in matter. The only thing of importance is to produce Reflected Light, and if we can create it by playing with a computer keyboard, then that’s enough!

The form of reality in which we live depends on us. If I start to see everything in the Reflected Light, then I will connect the root with the branch and will see spiritual roots in the world that appears before me. Then I will begin giving more importance to these spiritual roots than their material branches. This will happen to such an extent that the material branches will gradually disappear from my perception completely because I will activate my spiritual sensations more and more.

In the material world I use only what I need to support the life of my body, and I won’t need anything more than that. That is how this world will become increasingly more transparent. However, this does not depend on every person separately, but on the common correction of the world by virtue of all the souls.

If our souls unite, they create the spiritual world between them! They will have a shared perception of the Upper World and will feel the reality that is above this material reality, a billion times more powerful than it. Even the first spiritual level is infinitely greater and more powerful than our world.

If we start feeling it, then it eclipses our world to us. Even now there are many details in the world that we don’t notice. The desire to enjoy does not disappear to any place, but when all of humanity begins building the common system of bestowal among everyone, meaning the place for the spiritual world, then we will begin living in it and making it important!

We will raise the lower, material dimension to the spiritual level. That is to say, I start viewing the material world as part of the spiritual world because I see the forces operating behind everything and do not notice any matter as I did before. In relation to me the world turns into forces, and that means that the world of Assiya and all the other worlds ascend until the very world of Infinity.

However, this does not work in relation to a separate person, but in relation to all humanity that is starting to unite together into one common soul.

An Intervention Into The Upper Realm

An Intervention Into The Upper Realm

Dr. Michael LaitmanWe have finally matured to the human level and have become free. That is why our perception of reality will transform from a purely material one to an increasingly more spiritual one.

All of our machinery, workstations, and factories will become less material and more “transparent.” Even today half of the people are already working at a computer keyboard. But what could they possibly be producing there?

It’s clear what can be produced by working in the field, at a conveyor-belt, or by mining oil and coal. But what can you create by striking the computer keys? Soon the whole world will sit by computer screens. So will we be able to change the world through them?

In reality, this is how we create new matter, one that’s more spiritual. We will no longer need cars or planes because everything will shift to this virtual form. In reality it doesn’t matter one bit in what form we imagine everything. The most important thing is our effort, the Reflected Light we produce.

The Creator continuously moves upward, farther and farther away to give us the opportunity to expand our intervention into the upper realm with our Reflected Light. This is the kind of movement upwards we have begun from today onwards.

In reality, the entire difference is only man’s perception, his sensation of himself. In the past he was forced to work by the egoistic desire to enjoy, but now his effort lies in preferring the Reflected Light and bestowal over reception. This is called the human level.

In any case, one way or another, every person will work. The only question is: Will he do it unwillingly or by his own desire? All of human history until today was also spiritual work, albeit unconscious. That is how the Creator or nature had obligated us to work.

But now He no longer desires our slave labor. He wants us to become the same as He by ascending above our nature and playing with it ourselves the way He once played with us. You have to look at yourself from above and do the same thing to yourself that the Creator used to do. That is how you become equal to Him.

Waking Up In A New Dimension

Dr. Michael LaitmanHumanity still doesn’t understand what is happening. It is gradually starting to see the arising problems, but still doesn’t perceive them as problems of another level that require a completely new solution.

We are trying to solve them by the old methods which we used before, even though we don’t succeed at it. However, we still don’t even suspect that a problem of a completely different nature is surfacing here. The science of Kabbalah explains that we are having such a difficult time because we are egoists and cannot understand that the emerging problems are global and integral. We are trying to solve this global, integral problem with the previous means—by trying to a pinpoint a discrete target without correcting the entire system as a whole.

That is why the transition to the new world where we will have to live as one global, integral system is not simple at all. It is possible that we will have to go through many revolutions and even world wars until people realize that they already exist in a new world.

That is why the science of Kabbalah is being revealed in our time, because its purpose is to explain to us how to live in this new world. It will enable us to find out how to arrange upbringing and education, family life, work, the world, the home, and our health—meaning to correct the entirety of our life in this world.

But the most important thing that it has to do is to explain to us is that by virtue of this new method and new world that is being revealed to us, we ascend to a different level of existence. We are no longer living in a world where every person does what he wants, but are ascending to a new level and entering a new dimension.

The Transition To The Global World

Dr. Michael LaitmanAfter millennia of concealment, the science of Kabbalah is only now beginning to be revealed. We see how in our modern world everything changes so quickly that it is impossible to keep up. But the problem isn’t even the rate of development, but rather the fact that a completely different, qualitative development has begun.

In the past we developed inside our egoistic desire which constantly grew, becoming greater and greater, and it was clear to us that the future would hold the same things as before, only on a bigger scale. Now, however, we have made our way into a situation where development is not simply multiplying and accelerating, but is becoming global.

In the past every part of the system developed independently, and that is why we somehow coped with each of the parts. Yet development in the common, global system where all the parts are interconnected takes place absolutely differently. And because of our nature we are unable to cope with these problems since we are egoists and individualists inside. We do not have a global approach and perception. Therefore, we are unable to work with the integral system.

These two kinds of systems also exist in technology: numeric/discreet and analog. The difference between them is vast. In the beginning of my professional life I studied various systems in the human body and saw how much they differ. One part of the system works discretely and closed inside, but afterward when all the parts unite together, they work integrally by an analog principle.

We know how to research and create analog systems. This is the principle by which all of our devices are structured and systems are built. But we are unable to cope with integral systems. We do not understand them because their beginning and end are connected into one, and such a system does not work sequentially from beginning to end, but all of it operates simultaneously.

To supplement all other existing sciences that study isolated, discrete systems, the science of Kabbalah works with global, integral systems. That is exactly why it is being revealed now in order for us to find out how we can survive in this global world that is being revealed to us.
