What Brings Contentment In Life?

Dr. Michael LaitmanToday, people are increasingly worried about their well-being. Essentially, every person in the world can be provided with all that he or she needs, but we are unable to accomplish this. Even the richest and most powerful people don’t feel absolute security and fulfillment that can be accomplished by the collective love: mutual guarantee. It will be possible only if we take care of each other.

Humanity thought that material wealth would satisfy it, but the American dream, the society of consumers, has ruined itself. We have reached the need to change our attitude to life. The sensation of goodness, peacefulness, and completeness is not defined by how much I own. We can’t be satisfied with any fulfillment.

True contentment will become possible only when the Light starts flowing between us. But to achieve this, we have to open the way for it through our mutual caring for each other. While thinking about others, I unblock the system, thanks to which contentment will definitely fill them and me. We need this contentment to realize Arvut (mutual guarantee) so we may start worrying about how to fill the Creator.

At first, we think that our exerted efforts will simply result in our feeling good. And only when everyone starts truly thinking about everybody else, annulling individual egoism, then our intention will switch to altruism. Thus, from Lo Lishma, we arrive at Lishma, in the measure of our realization of mutual guarantee.

Who Chooses The Friends?

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: If a person cannot agree with the external form of the group, the way it appears to him, will he be able to build the kind of attitude where the group will raise him?

Answer: It is erroneous to think that I cannot demand an awakening from the group because it seems uncorrected to me. We are talking about different levels of creation. To my egoism the friends may seem like criminals who do not wish to unite and who are indifferent to everything.

However, on the other hand, why are they here? The Creator is holding them here from Above, even if they are incapable of anything on their own. He chose them and brought them to the group. He knows that they are ready. In His eyes they are worthy of advancing.

And since the Creator gave preference to them in particular, I must accept this. I value the friends for the fact that they are chosen by the Creator rather than for their personal qualities. How dear can they become to me? They can become as dear as my own children. I experience natural, “animal” love for my children, without any connection to their merits. It is the same with the friends: If the Creator chose them, I can develop the same kind of attitude to them as well.

Then the next stage comes, the group becomes stronger, and I begin to “sell” the importance to the friends. Then together, in a mutual guarantee, we can work on mutual realization of each other’s importance. Now I understand: The friends influence me, and for this reason they are 100% important in my spiritual fate. I assign them the uppermost importance, like to a judge who can sentence me to a lifetime in prison.

I no longer despise or curse the friends. They may be unpleasant in my eyes, but they are important nonetheless, and this is already a completely different attitude. After all, I have no choice. The Creator placed the group in front of me. If I manage to get along with it, the Upper World will be revealed to me, and if not, I will be sentenced to life in this world.

Now you decide how you treat a judge. He could be a chief mobster who is set out against you, hiding under a judge’s gown. But I cannot raise a finger to him. Proceeding by faith above reason, I need to justify my friends who are chosen by the Creator. And who knows, they may be completely unlike how my egoism presents them.

If I exert effort, and I am willing to selflessly flow into the group, I will feel that I acquire a special Kli which will allow me to demand a mutual guarantee. Thus, by turning to the friends with a demand, suddenly I will see that, in essence, I am appealing to my own desires which seemed foreign to me. My whole work will turn inward, until my friends and I become one whole.

The Constant And The Variable In The Equation Of The Mutual Guarantee

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: Can I break through the external decorations and connect to the points in the hearts of my friends, to their internal emptiness, which they themselves may not yet feel?

Answer: Yes! Begin to use the force of the mutual guarantee because the system is already there. If a person manages to open it even for an instant, it is his success!

The same system exists between us and the Creator, but it does not allow us to reach Him. Upon addressing the Creator, we do not have the opportunity to “rollback”: The minimal threshold of entering the system rises to the measure that we open it. For example, I manifest 10% of it, so now there is no way back, only forward because the Creator is constant, and the contact with Him can only be built on an ongoing basis. If I raise the measurement to 15%, this becomes my minimum.

This is why for now we can “play” the mutual guarantee not in relation to the Creator, but only in relation to the group where there are no problems with ascents and descents and where it is not necessary for us to be constant. In this, the system of souls differs from the Creator Himself. He is present in it, but by concealing Himself within the group, He allows me to “romp about” in the meantime, jumping up and down while all the same moving forward. And when I reach a constant direction only to Him, He will reveal Himself to me.

Your Grandma Will Also Be Well

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: It is written that when 600,000 people will have no other business in life but guarding the fulfillment of my needs, then I will be satisfied. When it says that “they will have no other business in life,” it confuses me.

Answer: There is nothing else with which to concern ourselves. We should only be concerned with every person having an opportunity to rise above his ego.

Question cont.: I can list a great deal of things which are still necessary.

Answer: No, I only want to free myself of obstacles in order to give myself to thoughts about unity so as to reveal the Creator in them.

Question cont.: What about taking care of yourself, work, and family?

Answer: We are speaking about those who strive to reach the mutual guarantee. This means that you only want to care for unity, where the Creator is to be revealed. So, we pledge to provide you with peace if these worries interfere with your work on the mutual guarantee.

We Lack A Drop Of Unity

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: At the Kabbalah Convention 2009 we were able to reach a special sensation that you referred to as a “drop of unity.” What did we attain then and how can we complete it at the big, upcoming convention?

Answer: At the Convention last year we felt that there was a special point in the unity between us, which did not depend on us and was above everyone. And if we were to connect between us, we would be able to depend on it, strive toward it, unite around it, and be protected by it. This “drop of unity” is a high force created by the connection between us, which protects us from all ills.

But this is not enough. In this drop, we connect our spiritual sparks into one spark. If we were to connect our desires to bestow, the mutual guarantee, to this common spark, we would begin to reveal the connection between the sparks that are glued together; that is, we would start to discover the system of connection of our souls. Every connection between the sparks is a relationship of mutual hatred and love above it.

In the first case, we connect our sparks (the points in the heart) into one big spark, and then we attain what a high state this is, meaning a state that exists by itself, a certain reality outside of us. We have created something new that was produced through the connection between us.

However, if you were to add a little bit of desire to it, then not just all these points in the heart connect into this spark, but also all the egos between them become revealed, meaning the entire hatred, and love above it. In other words, a net of connections between us becomes revealed, and we can perceive spirituality, the Creator, in this connection.

This means that you sign the mutual guarantee on the basis of the revelation of your desires, meaning that besides the point in the heart, there is the revelation of evil in them and the consent to be above it. After all, this net is built with our desires which we renounce by connecting above them and replacing hatred with love.

How will I be able to connect with others otherwise? It is not enough to simply connect into one spark; this is not a real connection because we have left the entire ego below. Meanwhile, I must rise above it, above Mount Sinai (the mount of hatred).

Following The Law Of Equivalence Of Form

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: When people come to the Convention and see the great work and preparations that were done, will we be able to revoke the differences between us and feel total equality?

Answer: Everything that is now being prepared for the Convention all over the world together with us is being done from the bottom of people’s hearts; we are all in one single vessel or desire. People who are far away from us and do not have the opportunity to come are still able to support us in thought. They transmit their desire to us and the aspiration to be closer.

What we end up with is the right combination, arranged by the Creator, where everyone unites together. We lack just one thing: the common thought about mutual guarantee!

Forget about all the external differences. In the end everything must become part of one whole, one common mutual guarantee. We have to become “as one man with one heart” together with all of our friends all over the world. As soon as we achieve the first feeling of contact, the spiritual quality of connection, then inside it the Creator will immediately be revealed according to the law of equivalence of form.

Put All Your Eggs In One Basket!

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: Am I “drilling a hole in the boat” by acting in all directions, in all 359 degrees except for one that is aimed toward the mutual guarantee?

Answer: But I signed an agreement with my friends that covers everything! My guarantee does not only apply to the tiny open gap through which I have to reach the mutual guarantee. You will not be able to concentrate one hundred percent on the mutual guarantee without taking the strengths from all the other directions and only leaving the vital necessities there.

Only when all the other directions become nothing but a necessity for you, which “is neither disapproved of nor praised” and all the strengths that remain after providing for your existence are directed towards reaching the mutual guarantee, only in this case, you are not drilling a hole in the boat.

Where Is Our Freedom?

Dr. Michael LaitmanBefore you enter the group, you have the freedom of choice to enter it. After you enter it, you have just one choice: to strengthen your connection with the group. You must decide for yourself that this is your free choice, and you must always continue doing this. Therein lies your freedom!

Freedom is not when I do something I want, but when I continuously add my efforts to this connection. We don’t have any freedom of will in any other regard; everything else will happen automatically.

This is a very important principle. I don’t have any freedom in my entire life. I am a complete puppet. There is freedom of choice only in one regard: After the Creator brings me to the group and gives me a spark in my heart, I have one single freedom: to include myself in the group, to grab onto it with my hands and teeth as much as possible.

Once you "latch on" to the group correctly, you depend on it, on the influence of the environment, and you don’t have freedom in this regard. So where are you free? You are free inasmuch as you add your own effort to strengthen your connection with the environment in spite of your egoism. You thereby increase your dependence on the environment and its influence on you. There is no other freedom but this!

This is the mutual guarantee and we must always add more and more principles to it including love for friends, love for the neighbor, and your justifying them by faith above reason. Everything is inside this freedom of will, this approach by which I attain the goal.

The rest of my life unfolds according to a specific "script." You can even go to a fortuneteller who will be able to tell your future. You can predict everything in advance besides the one thing that belongs to your freedom of will. Everything else is driven by "blind" faith.

It is forbidden to predict the future because then a person might think that he has freedom of will in his regular life. However, if you know that there are no free actions, then the future becomes revealed to you. Yet, you can never reveal the future that relates to your freedom of choice because it depends on you.

The Spirit Of The Group

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: What is selfless bestowal to another? What do I have to bestow to the friend outside of the egoistic pleasure?

Answer: You don’t need to give him anything material. In your desires you offer him support so that he wouldn’t forget about advancement toward the Creator. This is what your bestowal is exactly. What can souls give to one another when they are apart? They can only awaken each other and give each other strength. It isn’t required to fill the friend’s pockets or refrigerator. Only the correct interconnection is needed, and the Upper Light will fulfill all the needs.

Provide the friend with energy, involvement, and joy from the goal for this is your duty. Without this obligation and spirit there is no group. The Creator has made it so that we exist in one place, meaning one spiritual space, one collective desire of all the friends from all over the world. But it still doesn’t mean that we are a group.

A group begins with the promise to inspire each other. Moreover, we are not talking about external actions, but the inner desire where we are interconnected. Everyone passes the collective impulse and confidence in the path to the others, and this is what is called mutual guarantee.

If you lose capacity to inspire the others, it means that you are drilling a hole in our boat. “And if I am tired, can I rest?” If you do, then you are unable to receive inspiration from the others and are drilling a hole under yourself in the common boat, and because of you, all the others drown.

You either take part in the mutual guarantee or you don’t. This is the way we have to strengthen our troops. Everyone and all of us must see how we depend on each other more and more. This is practical work: A person examines his demand for connection with the group day by day. This is the exact point of interconnection that has to become a foundation for all our hopes.

The boat will reach the point of destination, and in the meantime, our job is to keep it safe from holes and see to it that the certainty in achieving the goal and awareness of its importance gets passed on to everyone. Indeed, there is nothing more important than unity and revelation the universal force of bestowal – the Creator, the Light – among us.

From Love Of Created Beings To Love Of The Creator

Dr. Michael LaitmanPresently the Creator is concealed from me, and I am only able to search for Him inside the group which stands between me and Him, as it is written: “From love of the created beings to love of the Creator.” If I direct myself to the group and clarify all the answers through them with respect to our connection and mutual guarantee, then I transfer my desires into the group and am able to see whether their desire is to receive or to bestow.

In return, the group provides me with a feeling of the Creator’s importance, and this feeling becomes important to me whether I want it or not. I begin to believe in the greatness of the Creator and that the greatest reward is to be near Him. The group restructures the order of my values, placing bestowal and the Creator on top and my egoistic desires at the bottom.

Then I begin to work to increase the greatness of bestowal, and this feeling continues to grow until it turns into a full-fledged mutual guarantee and we all become as one. If we achieve the sensation of “one man” in even the smallest measure, then we cross the barrier (Machsom) which separates us from the Upper World. And then, according to the law of equivalence of form, we begin to feel the Creator, the quality which defines the entire universe.

The group is my only means of defining spiritual definitions such as light and dark or day and night. After all, I come to the group utterly confused, without a clear understanding of what I want from this life, what is important, what determines advancement, and what the Creator wants from me. I scatter in all directions without even realizing where I’m going.

I have no clear direction whatsoever, and only the group can help me find my way. Books alone are unable to do that for me; they may even confuse me by giving me the impression that I have advanced spiritually by accumulating knowledge and that by grasping the information in a literal sense, I will attain spirituality. I was given the group as a model of the spiritual world temporarily, in place of the Creator, and the more I realize that my advancement takes place within the group, the quicker I will advance.
