Hard-Up Spanish Town Asks Residents to Sweep Streets

Dr. Michael LaitmanIn the News (from Naharnet): “A cash-strapped Spanish town has surprised its residents by asking them to pick up a broom and sweep their own streets and pavements.

“The official request by the mayor of Esparreguera, a town of 22,000 people in northeastern Spain’s Catalonia region, did not go down well with all inhabitants.

“‘The town hall does not have the financial means at the moment to improve municipal cleaning and gardening services,’ said the request by Mayor Joan-Paul Udina of the moderate Convergence and Union party.

“‘To return to the habits our grandparents had, we ask you to regularly sweep the portion of the pavement and road in front of your house,’ he said.

“’I am unemployed. I don’t earn anything. And in addition they want to put me to work for free to clean the rubbish,” fumed 53-year-old Jose when asked for his reaction.

“But Dolores Serrano, 56, said it was an ‘excellent idea.’

“‘I have already watered the tree in front of my door because I don’t want it to die,’ she said, adding the mayor had issued a simple request, not a directive.”

My Comment: This is where the lack of education in mutual guarantee is felt instantly. A person does not realize that in this way everyone saves collective resources, and common work brings citizens closer to each other, creates a greater similarity to integral nature, and changes the atmosphere in a small town. Now, it would be good to hold a small awareness campaign about the cause of the crisis and its solution!

The cause of the crisis is only to change society: It becomes interconnected. Previously, the desires in each of us were developing, growing, “linearly.” We tried hard to realize them and thus changed our society. But lately, our desires do not grow but are becoming more interconnected, turning our society into a “small village,” and we do not know how to act in such a case because this relationship between us, egoists, runs counter to each of us.

From here we see the solution: to change our relationships with each other and to all the people, to be as one system, a single whole. This will not appear automatically, instinctively, from within us like egoistic desires and thoughts. It can happen only under the influence of the environment that we must build ourselves.

By building the environment that teaches us, we begin to more deeply understand ourselves, our nature, what happens to us, as well as the plan and purpose of creation, right down to the feeling of the acting force of nature—the Creator.

The Salvation Of Humanity Is Its Unity

Opinion: (Vyacheslav Ivanov, professor University of California, Los Angeles, Moscow State Lomonosov University, Member of Russian Academy of Sciences, from mn.ru): “I am a supporter of the world government. I was invited as one of the experts of the UN.

“We called ourselves the Triglav International Society. …It includes people from many different countries, professors, politicians, and technology experts. We try to convince people that we need to unite. …Of, course, it does not mean to create the world government in the literal sense. But we need some kind of world union to address key issues collectively.

“I believe that humanity develops according to meaningful laws. Therefore, we will be moving towards a real union, which means that all the terrible conflicts that plague the world are negligibly small compared with these major tasks. These objectives are everyone’s concern—all people may all be killed. In order not to perish, we must finally establish a common operating structure.

“This will be the issue of the next decades, I think. There is nowhere to run from this. Other options are terrible.

“The salvation of humanity is the main task. I still believe that if the universe has spent so much effort to create us, it is unlikely that we will be allowed to destroy ourselves.”

The Crisis In Europe Is Political Rather Than Financial

Opinion: (Vladimir Putin, Prime Minister of the Russian Federation): “Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin has urged Europe’s leading states to help their more profligate eurozone partners, describing the persisting debt crisis as a ‘political problem.’

“‘So far the European debt problem is still a political problem, not purely an economic one,’ Putin was reported as saying during a visit to China on Tuesday.

“Although Greece is the eurozone’s worst-hit member, Putin pointed out, the country’s economic volume accounts for no more than 2 percent of Europe’s GDP.

“‘Some experts believe the scale of assistance in the European debt crisis is likely to reach 1 to 1.5 trillion euros. It’s not a small figure, but I believe the EU can afford it,’ Putin said according to reports in the local media.

“Big European nations must make a political decision to provide aid to their fragile peers, and this ‘demands political encouragement,’ Putin was quoted as saying.”

Brzezinski Predicts Riots In US

Dr. Michael LaitmanOpinion: (Zbigniew Brzezinski, former National Security Adviser to President Jimmy Carter, political scientist): “Zbigniew Brzezinski…predict[ed] that middle class unrest caused by economic disenfranchisement would soon hit America.

“‘I don’t want to be a prophet of doom — and I don’t think we are approaching doom — but I think we’re going to slide into intensified social conflicts, social hostility, some forms of radicalism, there is just going to be a sense that this is not a just society,’ Brzezinski said, adding that civil unrest would begin when the lower middle class becomes severely affected by the economic fallout and rising unemployment.

“The former National Security Advisor predicted ‘really serious international turmoil’ as a result of the United States, Europe and Japan, the three traditional pillars of global economic strength, struggling with deep financial crises.

“However, this is certainly not the first time that Brzezinski has expressed concerns that a growing rage caused by economic and social disenfranchisement could threaten the existing power structure.

“Brzezinski… warned of a ‘global political awakening,’ mainly comprising of younger people in developing states, that threatened to topple the existing international order.

“‘For the first time in human history almost all of humanity is politically activated, politically conscious and politically interactive… The resulting global political activism is generating a surge in the quest for personal dignity, cultural respect and economic opportunity in a world painfully scarred by memories of centuries-long alien colonial or imperial domination,’ Brzezinski told fellow elitists.”

My Comment: Only the creation of the “round table” in each country, where all the pressing issues of society will be discussed openly with scientists, politicians, economists, and representatives of different sectors of society, when they all gather to solve common problems like family members, will help to reduce social pressure that threatens to grow into riots, a civil war, and beyond.

The Crisis Affects Health Of The Nation

In the News (from Latin Daily Financial News): “According to a report published in The Lancet, in Greece there are indicators that suggest that access to health services of the Greeks has worsened, especially in vulnerable groups. But it has also increased the number of people who believe that their health is ‘bad’. The reasons, yet to be analyzed, may be in budget cuts, among others.

“Another alarming statistic is the increase in the number of suicides, 17% in 2009 compared to 2007, and unofficial data raise the increase to 25% from 2009 to 2010. Other data from the Greek Ministry of Health talks about an increase of 40% in the first half of 2011, compared to the same period in 2010.

“There has also been an increase in the number of HIV infections in late 2010. Recent data suggest that new HIV infections will rise by 52% in 2011 (922 new cases compared to 605 in 2010). Half of these cases is attributable to infection among users of intravenous drugs, although there has been an increase in prostitution and the number of women with HIV. According to the Greek Observatory on Drugs, the prevalence of heroin use has increased by 20% in 2009.”

The Recipe For Saving The Economy Or How Not To Perish One By One

Opinion: (Rachel Ziemba, Director for macroeconomic issues of Central and Eastern Europe, Middle East and Africa (CEEMEA), Roubini Global Economics, USA, from voanews.com): “‘The recession, which plunged the U.S. economy, is not a problem of one country.’

“‘This process will continue over the next five years and will affect all major countries around the world. China, India, Turkey, and Russia cannot escape the recession in the USA and the EU. …The world could experience problems with oil supplies from the Middle East countries, taken over by riots.’

“‘Recipe for economic salvation is simple: to bet on technologies, intensively develop the agricultural sector and inter-regional cooperation.’ …‘It already sounds like a constant mantra—to develop cooperation between countries….’”

Decisive Times For The Eurozone

Dr. Michael LaitmanIn the News (from Euronews): “G20 finance chiefs said the IMF must have adequate resources but stressed it was up to an EU summit next weekend to take decisive action.

“IMF boss Christine Lagarde highlighted fears of a knock-on effect that could hit emerging economies.

“French Finance Minister Francois Baroin promised that the EU summit on October 23 would be decisive. Now actions as well as words are needed with the pressure on and time running out.”

My Comment: There is no other treatment for sick Europe but to create an environment that will train us to become integral and ready for joint actions, like a flock of birds or a school of fish. Only animals act instinctively, obeying the collective mind and desire that control the entire group, but we must rise to the level where we act consciously, willingly.

The solution to the crisis is not in financial activities, but the transformation of a human being: He should become an integral, active, and intelligent member of humanity, like a bird in a flock or a fish in a school. The only way to change a person is through a special environment, just as we shape a child under the influence of the environment.

But in this case, we have to create our environment ourselves. Only this action, together with some financial activities aimed at balancing the society, will allow us to come out from the crisis and begin to acquire a new form of society of reasonable consumption.

Criminal Responsibility For Financial Players

Opinion: (Jose Manuel Barroso, President of the European Commission): “‘This Thursday I am going to propose that individual criminal responsibility for financial players be recognised in European law,’ Barroso said in comments run by Le Parisien newspaper on Sunday.

“‘We have seen abusive behavior on the markets, some of which has provoked the current crisis. We are going to regulate these practices,’ Barroso said.

“‘Those who violate them will incur criminal penalties. That would be a first in European law and send a strong signal,’ he insisted.”

The EU In Decline, The World Heading Toward War

Dr. Michael LaitmanOpinion: (José Ignacio Torreblanca, Senior Research Fellow and Head of the Madrid Office, the European Council on Foreign Relations): “With every passing day, the sensation that Europe is fragmenting is more real and more justified. At the end of the day, the European Union is a human construction, not a celestial body. That it is necessary and beneficial justifies its existence, but that will not prevent it from disappearing. Just as a series of favorable circumstances led to the risky launch of this grand project, the unleashing of a series of adverse circumstances could very easily make it disappear, especially if those responsible for defending it shirk their responsibilities. Many committed pro-Europeans are conscious that the danger of Europe unravelling is very real, and they are duly worried about the course of events. However, at the same time, they fear that feeding pessimism with warnings of this nature could only serve to accelerate the collapse.”

My Comment: From the perspective of realizing the program of nature to bring humanity to a unified form, the collapse of the EU will become the greatest aggravation of the crisis of the similarity of humanity to integral nature, a step back—and a threatening move toward world war.

Tilling New Ground

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: Yesterday we held a round table in Afula which was attended by the city’s mayor, the head of the regional council, and leading specialists in education. The discussion was about the educational system in the 21st century. Our message was that children have to be prepared for life in the new, tightly interconnected world. The discussion participants did not object, but the impression was that we are trying to sow wasteland. Will people be able to understand the challenges facing humanity before it’s too late?

Answer: If they won’t, then suffering will force them to. A live example is Europe, which is deep in debt. Its leaders do not know what to do, yet they feel and understand that a split will entail a very serious catastrophe. On the other hand, they don’t know how to unite. Even multibillion tranches of assistance do not guarantee them a bright future.

It would be nice to pay once and get rid of the problem. This does happens in life: You make a concession and unload a great burden off your conscience. However, in this case nothing is working. Europe’s problem is a lack of communication.

Many people are already saying that it is necessary to create a single government or at least a single financial agency.

But how? After all, in that case it would be necessary not only to cancel the governmental boundaries, but all other boundaries as well, to annul all the differences. The common financial system means common social security and pension provision for everyone, common funds and conditions…. Stated differently, it requires the same attitude to everyone, and that means there will be one European nation and one boundary around all of Europe where everyone are equal.

Initially this concept is scary because nothing like this has ever happened in history. People don’t yet understand that the solution can only be found in unity. A person is driven by what he personally lacks, and unification is not on that list. Only great problems can push people to that. It is possible to advance forward under blows, meaning suffering or by common sense, either by a stick hitting you from behind or by a carrot enticing you from ahead. So choose one of the two.

For now we are driven by the stick, which is especially hard on the Europeans. But soon Americans will also feel its blows.

The only thing we can do is explain what is happening to the world, presenting the facts. An experienced expert sees and understands the problems. In the same way, all people have to see with their own eyes that which they do not notice yet. Using videos, movies, songs, and other media it is necessary to inform them of what is happening in the world today. Even if a person is far from this, he must nevertheless learn about it at least slightly.

That is how we will ameliorate the situation, turning every person into a specialist in some sense so he will be wary of heedless actions and will be willing to cooperate. Besides, by virtue of this we will gradually make the authorities aware of the need to organize an environment that provides people with an upbringing.
