“Europe’s Woes Worsen”

Dr. Michael LaitmanIn the News (from The Wall Street Journal): “Greek gross domestic product fell 7% in the fourth quarter from the year-earlier period, the country’s statistics agency said, bringing the total GDP drop since the end of 2007 to more than 16%. Greece’s statistics service hasn’t issued quarter-to-quarter data for the past several quarters because of methodological problems adjusting for seasonal swings in activity….

“The steep contractions are fueling criticism of the strict austerity policies adopted across Europe’s periphery in response to the debt crisis. A number of economists argue that continued government spending cuts will make it even harder for the most vulnerable countries to recover.”

My Comment: Economics is not a science, but assumptions and hypotheses, but are not enough to see the logical following consequences.

“The Financial Collapse Of The West Is Coming”

Dr. Michael LaitmanOpinion (Giulietto Chiesa, Italian journalist and politician): “I believe that now dominates the chaotic state of society and all this in a huge crisis that is unprecedented. There are forces who seek to destroy the States. The more fragmented populations, the more money they can make. …

“They have their own country, which has no borders, and two capitals-Wall Street and the City of London. This is financial, they were not more than 500 people. In person we know at least one of them. But we know the names of some of their organizations are big banks…They control the Government, could appoint a Prime Minister. …

“The main feature of the crisis is the accumulation of debt. Over the past 10-15 years ‘they’ created a daring financial system. Wealth is increased in accordance with the amount of money that they produce. Over the past 10 years they have produced 15 thousand trillion of virtual money, which are essentially. None of the States could pay that debt. All the banks will soon collapse because their assets-only paper. … Financial collapse of the West. This crisis is approaching. … What’s next, nobody knows.”

My Comment: The next will be the enlightenment of humanity, planned from Above.

To Think, And Not To Know!

Dr. Michael LaitmanIn the News (from Radio Netherlands Worldwide): “Western schoolchildren are up to three years behind those in China’s Shanghai and success in Asian education is not just the product of pushy ‘tiger’ parents, an Australian report released Friday [February 17] said.

“The study by independent think-tank The Grattan Institute said East Asia was the centre of high performance in schools with four of the world’s top systems in the region – Hong Kong, South Korea, Shanghai and Singapore. …

“The study said that while many OECD [Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development] countries had substantially increased funding for schools in recent years, this had often produced disappointing results and success was not always the result of spending more money. …

“The report said the best systems focused on a relentless, practical focus on learning and teacher education, mentoring and professional development, rather than greater spending.”

My Comment: Education is inseparable from upbringing, and if there is no upbringing, then education cannot be good. Education means learning the skills to think, and not to know.

A Praiseworthy Flexibility

In the News: Shalom Toronto, the largest Canadian Israeli-Jewish online weekly newspaper, published a long article about the benefits of Kabbalah and The Zohar with the approval of the leading Orthodox authorities of Canada. Most notably, the photograph of Baal HaSulam is in the heart of the article about The Book of Zohar, which until recently was unacceptable in an Orthodox environment. Oddly enough, Orthodox Judaism is often more flexible in their views and changes than the secular masses.

Alarming Rise In Bacteria Resistant To Antibiotics

Dr. Michael LaitmanIn the News (from The Independent): “Britain is facing a ‘massive’ rise in antibiotic-resistant blood poisoning caused by the bacterium E.coli – bringing closer the spectre of diseases that are impossible to treat.

“Experts say the growth of antibiotic resistance now poses as great a threat to global health as the emergence of new diseases such as Aids and pandemic flu. …

“The ‘slow but insidious growth’ of resistant organisms was threatening to turn common infections into untreatable diseases… ‘It is a worldwide issue – there are no boundaries’…”

My Comment: If we continue not taking any actions for our balance with nature (connection with each other into one whole, balanced receiving and giving between us and nature, reasonable economic consumption, uniform distribution, and integral education), disturbances in natural balance will lead us to the state in which we will not be able to exist because our bodies also exist due to the same balance like within themselves and the environment.

The Ice Megalopolis And Its Consequences

Dr. Michael LaitmanIn the News (from Examiner): “According to NASA, as reported by National Geographic, an iceberg the size of New York City is about to break off of Antarctica’s fastest melting glacier. The ice crack measures 350 square miles, which is more than the 303 square miles that covers all five boroughs in the city. … It isn’t known when the iceberg is going to break off, but the educated guess is sometime within the next few months.

“Normally icebergs breaking off isn’t such an issue as it is in this case, but in this case, scientists are seeing a difference in how the ice breaks off, suggesting that the ice itself is changing. The ice breaking off in this way will contribute all the more toward the sea level rising in the area. Another factor which is raising the eyebrows of experts is where the iceberg is in comparison with the rest of the continent. The shifts in the ice in these particular glaciers (in West Antarctica, specifically the Pine Island Glacier, where the crack is specifically) will contribute to the broken off icebergs raising the sea level that much faster.”

(From IBTIMES TV): “Scientists have long suspected icebergs to have a link with earthquakes. When the huge March 11 earthquake triggered the Tohoku Tsunami in Japan that flattened entire coastal towns and killed nearly 16,000, scientists knew that tracking the wave could provide visual proof of the connection. The undersea megathrust earthquake had a staggering magnitude of 9.0 (Mw), and triggered waves of up to 133 feet high. Scientists were able to track the wave over 8,000 miles as it sprawled through the Pacific and Southern oceans. Just 18 hours after the tsunami, a wave of 1-foot height struck the ice shelf in Antarctica. The Sulzberger ice shelf is a sheet of ice 260 feet thick that extends towards New Zealand. It hasn’t budged in nearly 50 years, but the pressure from the wave was strong enough to snap off massive pieces of ice. One of them measured four by six miles in surface area, nearly the size of Manhattan.”

My Comment: Climatic problems, which are the result of our imbalance with nature, are the most tragic. So far, we underestimate our impact on nature: We believe that we inflict harm by exhaust and garbage, but in fact, our spiritual non-compliance with nature causes the most devastating and direct impact on it. Our egoistic relationships are responsible for major imbalances in nature and are the cause of all crises and climate challenges.

What Do Mushrooms Think About?

In the News (from The Telegraph): “Toshiyuki Nakagaki, a professor at Future University Hakodate, northern Japan, cultivates the slime in petri dishes and has discovered how the brainless organism is capable of finding its way out of a maze.

“The brainless organism is able to “organise” its cells to create the most direct route through a maze in order to reach a source of food, according to his studies.

“The findings highlight how slime mould possesses information processing abilities shared by humans which are more sophisticated than the most advanced computers, according to Professor Nakagaki.

“’Humans are not the only living things with information-processing abilities,’ he said. ‘Simple creatures can solve certain kinds of difficult puzzles. If you want to spotlight the essence of life or intelligence, it’s easier to use these simple creatures.’

“Slime mould, a monocellular being that lives on rotting leaves and does not possess a brain, may not be the obvious subject of scientific research in relation to intelligence.”

Children Are Hostages Of The World Food Crisis

In the News (from The Independent): “A quarter of young children around the world are not getting enough nutrients to grow properly, and 300 die of malnutrition every hour, according to a new report that lays bare the effects of the global food crisis.

“There are 170 million children aged under five whose development has been stunted by malnutrition because of lack of food for them and their breastfeeding mothers, and the situation is getting significantly worse, according to research by the charity Save the Children.

“In Pakistan, Bangladesh, India, Peru and Nigeria – countries which are the home of half of the world’s stunted children – recent rises in global food prices are forcing the parents of malnourished children to cut back on food and pull children out of school to work.

“A third of parents surveyed said their children routinely complain they do not have enough to eat. One in six parents can never afford to buy meat, milk or vegetables. It suggests that … half a billion children will be physically and mentally stunted over the next 15 years.”

My Comment: If the developed countries did not lead Africa to famine, and if we just stopped throwing away extra food, we could feed the world. So, the problem is not a food crisis, but a human crisis!

Europe: Is The Gulf Stream Freezing?

Dr. Michael LaitmanIn the News (from Euronews): “In Turkey 20cm of snow fell – the most seen in 50 years.

“Police in Poland say at least ten people froze to death as the weather worsened over night after what had been until now, a mild winter.

“There are warnings the country can expect 30 degrees below zero at the end of the week.

“In the Czech Republic the railways suffered as the extreme weather buckled tracks and engines broke down.

“Romania, central Serbia and Bulgaria are all in the grip of the big freeze with Ukraine reporting over 18 deaths.

“It is not just humans having to battle the cold – in southern Russia severe frosts have caused the deaths of thousands of fish after river levels which were already low completely froze.

“Transport, communications and power lines are all being hit. Several stranded lorry drivers faced a night in their cabs as roads became impassable.”

My Comment: How long should we suffer to realize that all the problems, oddly enough, are caused by human behavior? A human being as the highest stage of development (desire) determines through his imbalance with Nature everything that happens in it.

Unrest In Greece

Dr. Michael LaitmanIn the News (from Bloomberg): “Rioters set fire to as many as 45 buildings during violent street protests against government austerity measures in central Athens late yesterday and overnight, Greek police said.

“Prime Minister Lucas Papademos won parliamentary approval early today for the spending cuts needed to secure an international bailout of 130 billion euros ($172 billion). The measures equal about 7 percent of gross domestic product over three years and include a debt swap that would shave 100 billion euros off more than 200 billion euros of privately held debt. Greece was granted its first aid package of 110 billion euros in May 2010.

“A total of 170 businesses in Athens suffered attacks during the protests, the Athens Chamber of Commerce and Industry said today in a statement on its website. Initial estimates put the cost of damage to buildings and equipment as well as from theft at tens of millions of euros, the chamber said.

“Seventeen banks, four bookstores, five department stores and shopping malls and 70 clothing and footware shops were among businesses that suffered damage, the Athens-based association said.

“Several national heritage sites were burned including a neoclassical building from 1870-1881, designed by German architect Ernst Ziller, which was gutted by fire, according to an e-mailed statement from the Athens City Hall.”

My Comment: This will only increase social tension. Studies suggest that only the solidarity of society, the proper distribution of income, and a feeling of unity will create a person’s sense of happiness, peace, and contentment, even with a modest lifestyle.

But this form can be achieved only through the preliminary education of people. We need to introduce mandatory education for all unemployed people, including housewives, retirees, etc., and in a few months society can be brought to conscious integral changes.
