To Live For Spirituality

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: How do I arrange my life to dedicate it entirely to the revelation of the Creator?

Answer: It is easy to examine and organize corporeal life: Make sure that you are not harming others with any of your corporeal actions. In other words, you can’t be a thief or a criminal, live at someone else’s expense, and at the same time, act in order to bestow, as it were, in hopes that you are advancing toward correction.

First of all, you need to correct yourself so as not to bring harm to others and not to deprive them even in some indirect manner. The rest of your work takes place solely in intention. Obviously, you should help a friend to find a job, for example, but, essentially, our entire work lies within the spiritual area by means of spiritual connection.

We mustn’t copy various “altruistic” or “spiritual” organizations which provide “humanitarian” help and thereby corrupt people. They breed parasites by depriving people of the opportunity to become independent and take care of themselves. In fact, it is those very organizations who benefit from this.

Hence, this is the rule by which I should advance toward the Creator: I take care of the corporeal needs inasmuch as it is necessary to sustain my existence, while the rest of my efforts are aimed solely at the revelation of the Creator in the connection with the friends.

Knocked Off Or Pushed Forward On The Path?

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: How does one remain in the correct intention if the Upper Force intentionally knocks us out of it?

Answer: The Upper Force doesn’t knock us out of the correct intention, but merely loads us with greater desire that we can overcome and correct. Above, everything is calculated precisely, in accord with the entire system: how much effort you have exerted and how much strength has been accumulated and stored. To this measure, additional desire is now being revealed to you.

Meanwhile, you think you are being swayed off the path. But you are not being diverted from it; rather, you are being given a chance to advance. Yet, you see it as obstacles since you don’t aspire to work. If you were eager to work, you would rejoice in the burdening.

It all depends on how well I prepare myself. If I am striving to work and view an opportunity to do more and more of it as a reward, then all these so-called descents are not going to be such in my eyes. I will be able to see that this is an opportunity for advancement and success. I will be grateful for this burdening of the heart as a correction because for me it is yet another opportunity to demonstrate my love for the Creator.

What Is The Left Line?

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: Кabbalists prohibit engaging the left line in communication with the friends. What is this left line?

Answer: The left line is my egoistic desire aimed solely at receiving or getting fulfilled. It stimulates me “incorrectly,” yet assists me thereby. If I know how to work with it, I discover “help against me” in the left line.

The left line is always turning, twisting, and pushing me; if I keep examining it, if I am sensitive to its setups and treat its every new “project” with suspicion, then such self-examining helps me to keep adhering to the Light. As a result, thanks to the forces of reception and bestowal, I always rise above the desire, above the provoking thoughts and actions, in order to look at them from the side.

For as long as a person is submerged in his will to receive, he remains at the animate level and is subordinate to nature. However, we speak of the steps being made above nature or above reason.

Test Yourself

Dr. Michael LaitmanBefore us, there lies an enormous creation. We neither feel nor understand it, and cannot comprehend its magnitude. This is why Kabbalists were instructed by the Creator (Nature) to keep communication with us in a specific manner. These special souls have already performed correction through various methods, almost without the assistance of the environment, and now, before the term expires, they are turning to us and offering the method of correction.

They explain how to arrange a correct environment, and we certainly should use their advice since if we choose the path of natural development, every stage will be lengthy and require enormous strength. Similar to the teachers of a kindergarten group, Kabbalists inform us about rules and conditions and teach us games and exercises. Their advice should be taken as a vital necessity. I must obey them since otherwise, I won’t advance. One shouldn’t deceive oneself, hoping to find some side roads.

Check and see whether you are truly participating if you open the book, but don’t realize it. Let’s see if you will still have complaints after that.

“It’s in your power to build an environment,” Kabbalists say. Yes, you can, but you are lazy in arranging such an environment that will give you confidence, raise the importance of the goal (adhesion with the Creator) and the means for its attainment (unity with the friends). In fact, only working in this environment that you have created will you find everything you need to feel the spiritual world.

It is okay if the environment looks external to you. In truth, these are all your inner Kelim (vessels) that came out due to the breaking. Do you want to correct the brokenness and enter spiritual reality? No problem: accept them and start loving them as you love yourself. When you do, all these external Kelim will unify with the inner ones, and you will return to the correct perception, you will see spirituality instead of corporeality. Everything has been written and explained, so realization of the method lies in our hands.

Disassembling Teaches How To Re-Assemble

Dr. Michael LaitmanOn the spiritual path we have to exert efforts like a restless child who runs around like mad, causing havoc, breaking and smashing things. He’s lacking sense, but after dropping a glass a few times, he will discover its brittleness and learn how to hold it properly. Having disassembled something, he will learn how to put the parts back together.

In a similar fashion, we need to attain the breaking of the collective soul that happened before us, to discover the forces of the breakage. Otherwise, we will not know how to gather all the shattered souls into a single whole.

Ascending The Rungs Of Bina

Dr. Michael LaitmanWhen we ascend above our ego and connect ourselves with others through the ties of love and bestowal, we sequentially go through all degrees of Bina. The first phase of Bina is GAR de Bina. It designates the unwillingness to use my egoism, the fear to take or to harm even though I receive an opportunity to do all of this without any punishment. This is the way I gradually rise above my egoism.

The second phase of Bina is ZAT de Bina. I’m given a sensation that everyone depends on me, and I begin to suffer because I am unable to fulfill others, as it is said: “More than a calf wants to eat, the cow wants to feed.” I begin to feel desires of others and attach them to myself. I feel the entire world as part of myself.

However, this is not the egoism of a mother who receives pleasure when she feeds her child. I act above the hatred which does not disappear. Each time I correct the rejection of my neighbor. I feel the desires of others as alien to me, and I hate them. At the same time, I begin feeling them as mine due to the Light and the force of correction. All connections happen due to the anti-egoistic screens.

When I begin to bestow upon others, I always feel how much I take from myself and pass on to them, how I empty myself because of that, and how I become fulfilled only because I fulfill them. These corrections upon corrections is the path upward, back to the World of Infinity.

My Spiritual Simulator – 10.06.10

Spiritual Simulator: Questions of the Day

A Single Commandment

Dr. Michael LaitmanWe learn from the works of the Kabbalists that all that was prepared for us is the breaking, which we have to correct. Therefore, there is only one commandment: the correction of the breaking, meaning restoring the connection between the souls that have to unify and become one soul once again.

Since the collective soul and its parts (each soul separately) broke into a multitude of pieces, it seems to us that we are performing many different actions, yet all of them represent one and the same action: unification. First, we need to restrict our egoistic desire and rise above it in bestowal for the sake of bestowal, which is called “repentance from fear.”

After that, we must correct ourselves to receive for the sake of bestowal, which is called “repentance from love.” “Love your friend as you love yourself” is the outcome of our entire correction. As a result, all parts become unified as one whole, without any difference between them. In other words, there is essentially only one singular commandment: to connect.

We are yet to discover to what extent everything in this world is designed and prepared for this commandment to be implemented. Everything is arranged in order to give us a chance to ascend in a good and simple way, first to the revelation of the state of breaking and then to its correction. Hence, we think that we have to do many actions with ourselves, within the group, the family, society, the world, and all of mankind, but we should constantly keep in mind (in the intention) that it is all one singular act of unification.

The nature of this action, attaining unity, brings us great confusion since otherwise, we don’t understand why we undergo such varied states that feel heavy, confusing, and vague, and why so many hardships and problems come to us in life. In truth, there is one singular cause for it: a lack of connection. And the remedy for each predicament is connection yet again.

If we could see our present condition and the next desired state, from our lack of connection to unity, then all our problems would be cured, everything would become clear and filled with Light. Moreover, if we continue to hold the correct intention, we will rise above our confusion and brokenness to the action of oneness or faith above reason.

In other words, I am not going to drown in desires, feelings, lack of comprehension, and darkness, but will realize that this is all an effect of the breaking, and if I do everything which depends on me in order to attain oneness, I will be rewarded with the Light.

To Glow With Love

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: I understand that it’s possible to hate my egoism, but how can I suddenly start loving another?

Answer: Love is an outcome of correction, above and atop the screens. But nothing disappears. The will to receive constantly grows, forevermore. While hate and distance in relation to the others is increasing, above all that, there is love!

When we reach the world of Atzilut, we will feel infinite distance between us, and above it, total connection. Therefore, this connection we have created is regarded as “620” times (Pi Tarach) greater than the initial existing one.

As it is in an electrical supply network, in order to elicit power from it, resistance is needed. You have to exert strength in order to extract this power, and only then will it do the work and bring a positive outcome.

There has to be resistance coming from one side, and some action coming from the other. If you connect them together, you can accomplish the work having received the source of power. Then, the light bulb lights up.

It glows because there is a spiral of resistance inside it; and the greater this resistance to light, the brighter the illumination it provides. These two forces, by working together while opposing each other, heat the spiral, and it starts radiating light.

Everything is determined by resistance; it has to be preserved in all phenomena. We use it as a measure for magnitude, and this is derived from the basic will to receive that stands in opposition to the Light.

Authentic Altruism And Humanitarian Help

Dr. Michael LaitmanQuestion: Baal HaSulam writes that love for another has to be so deep that we would be willing to give the only pillow we have. Does this mean we have to fulfill each other’s material desires as well?

Answer: I don’t have anything to fill these desires with! Where am I going to get 7 billion pillows for the whole of humanity? If everyone cares solely for bestowal, a person will have only necessities in order to sustain himself. What, then, would he be able to give to others?

A law forbids us to give up necessities without which we couldn’t survive. This concerns the survival of the animate body that mustn’t be neglected. So, it turns out that I have nothing to give away to others, and it isn’t required of me. If I have arranged myself correctly in relation to the correction process, I will have no extra food nor money to spare since I live solely for bestowal and take nothing beyond what is necessary for myself.

However, we are forgetting that we don’t have to do anything ourselves. Everything is arranged by the Light. We just have to create the connection in order for the Light to act through us. If I am thinking about another’s need, he will receive what he needs. It is I who arranged it for him. By doing so, I have become equivalent to the Creator because I have evoked the act of bestowal.

I can’t do more than motivate the Light to act. This means that I raise MAN (Mayin Nukvin, Female Waters) which is a request or prayer. My MAN, request, from Malchut works similar to how MAD (Mayin Duchrin, Male Waters), answer, from Bina. I raise to Bina all my will to receive to the magnitude of ZAT de Bina. Everything gets resolved in the thought: I provide the desire to fulfill the friend, but it is the Creator who fulfills him. I am just a connecting link between the other person and the Creator. This is how the world is created in my imagination so that I could correct myself.

I feel that I don’t need anything for myself except to bestow to another. I feel his desire above my own and, above his, I feel the desire of the Creator, an opportunity to fulfill and delight Him. If I organize my desires in this fashion, it means that I perform my actions. The Creator will carry out these acts, and we will attain oneness. I asked Him to unify us in adhesion, and He did. I only need to keep asking.

The Creator intentionally makes others lack something. It is done so that I develop a desire to ask the Creator to fulfill another’s lack, so that I desire to become one with Him, to merge and equalize myself with Him. He created all evil in the world and wishes for me to act on everyone’s behalf as their guardian and look after all of them. He fulfills the world with the Light of Infinity, and then disappears, giving me a chance to bring the Light back into this world.

However, I must understand that this is how the world is painted by my imagination in my “matrix” or the illusion that I must live specifically for my correction. If I try to give something away, that is, try to correct the world and not myself, then I will only harm the world further in order for me to realize what a mistake I had made and to start correcting myself after all. We clearly see that any “humanitarian help” brings additional damage by  provoking terrorism, theft, and idleness.
