A Long Way and a Short Way

760.4How can we develop such sensitivity within us that we will understand that if we hope to build our soul without the help of the Creator, then we are taking a long, circuitous path?

We will feel that we are taking a long path each time, and this will push us to look constantly for ways to shorten it and direct it straight to the Creator. It is this long path that directs us to the Creator because we are always trying to straighten it.

Everything depends on the directness of the heart, whether it is directed straight through the friends to the Creator or not. This determines whether the path will be long or short. Imagine how we twist and turn in our hearts and minds in order to avoid connection with the friends and not to come closer to them as well as to the Creator openly and directly. This means that we are not taking the straight path.

Stony Heart Both Hinders And Helps

510.01The stony heart does not let us connect with friends. But there is a hole inside the stone through which I can connect with everyone.

It is the stony heart that opens the path to the Creator for us. After all, if it were not for it, I would not even know that there is an obstacle in front of me.

Now I see that there is a barrier and that it is inside my heart. My heart is closed tightly, and I cannot move this stone from the mouth of the well. This means that I cannot do without the help of the Creator.

The One Who Corrupted Everything Will Correct It

294.3The evil we see in the world is a projection of our own qualities. Therefore, if I am strongly impressed by this evil, it is also beneficial, because to the same extent I will have more willingness to get rid of it.

The only thing that is required of me is to recognize that all evil stems from my will to receive, my egoism. If we uproot this egoism with the help of the upper light, then, of course, all of life will get better.

We see that the world is torn apart by external problems: war, pandemics, inflation… We can correct this if we make internal changes within ourselves, not in each of us, but rather in the relationship between us. No one needs to correct anything inside themselves, we just need to correct our connection.

A righteous is the one who loves others, connects with them, and not the one who sits and torments himself, this is stupidity. As soon as we correct the connection between us, the entire reality will change: the world, the war, us, everything will become different.

The connection between us can be corrected only with the help of the reforming light, and not by our own efforts. On our part, to correct ourselves means to recognize that my attitude toward others needs correction and that I am not able to correct it myself because the Creator corrupted it initially, as it is said: “I have created the evil inclination.”

Therefore, the only thing we must do is to turn to the Creator: He corrupted it, and He will correct it, this is called the work of the Creator. We just learn from this the way it should be and discover the gap between the desired state and the present state. This is our gain.

Unless the Lord Builds a House, Its Builders Labor in it in Vain

935It is said that “Unless the Lord builds a house, its builders labor in it in vain” (Rabash, “What Is, ‘There Is No Blessing in That Which Is Counted,’ in the Work?”).

This means one should not expect that a person can build his own soul, Temple, or house of holiness in which he will reveal the connection with all creatures, with all souls, and with the Creator who fills them in order to return to the state of one soul—Adam HaRishon, to one Kli, and to one light where all are merged together and support each other.

If the Creator does not build this structure, does not arrange it, does not fill it, and does not support it, then a person has no hope of making any progress in this.

I, individually, am not able to build a spiritual Kli out of my uncorrected desires, but at the same time I say: “If I don’t help myself, then no one will help me.” Only if I make every possible effort and eventually despair, only then will I be able to ask the Creator to build me a house of holiness and say that “Unless the Lord builds a house, its builders labor in it in vain.”

To build a Temple means to correct all the qualities of a person in similarity of form with the Creator. And then, according to the similarity of their qualities, the Creator will fill this house, the human heart.

When we really make every effort, we see that we are unable to connect with each other for the sake of bestowal, so that we can relay to each other and to the Creator all together. We are not able to build a Temple, meaning, a connection suitable for revealing the Creator in us. Then we shout: “Unless the Lord builds a house, its builders labor in it in vain”! And we get help from above.

The Creator does it. He does not help any one individually, but only all together; building the connection out of all of us, which is called the house of holiness, the structure of the soul, within which, according to the strength of our connection, the Creator, the internal light, is revealed.

How to Acquire the Wisdom of the World

934There is nothing to correct in each of us; the problem is not in each one individually. The main thing is to correct our connection so that all the minuses and pluses in us, all the bad and good qualities that are in each one, reach mutual completion between the friends. This is called mutual guarantee.

The mutual guarantee is required precisely in order to mutually compensate for all the bad and good qualities through our connection. It turns out that there are no righteous among us—we are all sinners. But if we properly connect all our polar qualities with each other, combine pluses and minuses, then the entire system will start working perfectly.

The main thing is to complete each other. We just need to start this work; even if we do not understand how to do it and only want it to happen, the Creator will complete it for us.

If I compensate for all shortcomings that I notice in a friend by seeing the Creator behind him, then I connect the whole system in a complete manner. Then this system becomes clear to me, the entire creation becomes clear to me: how it connects and functions and how one part affects the other from the beginning of creation to the very end. I understand everything that happens in the relationship between all its parts; that is, I acquire the wisdom of the world.

It is said about this that “The righteous sit and enjoy the radiance of the Shechina,” the way all negative and positive qualities are combined, all opposites complete each other, and there is nothing unnecessary, nothing bad left, and everything is united in complete harmony.

Where We Meet the Creator

210Until we clarify our desire to enjoy and do not reveal a whole system of connections and its constituent properties, it seems just a desire that does not represent anything special.

But when its depth begins to unfold, we see how complex this system is.

Thus in quantum physics, scientists penetrate deeper and deeper into matter, and each time reveal a whole world inside ever smaller elementary particles, which were previously considered indivisible.

In this way we penetrate deeper and deeper into our desire to enjoy. But what do we see in it? We see how the upper light, which created the desire to enjoy, influenced it, and created four stages of direct light in it. And through these four stages, since the light has entered into the desire to enjoy, it is building its own structure in it.

In the desire to enjoy itself there is nothing but desire. But the light creates differences in it according to the five stages of Aviut (thickness) of the desire (Shoresh, Aleph, Bet, Gimel, Dalet), Sefirot, Olamot, Partzufim, and Kavim, in an infinite number of types of connections and forms, each of which has its own characteristic features, an infinite number of differences—and they all come from the light.

Therefore, the more we open our desire to enjoy, the more we reveal the light, the Creator, and His nature. But we reveal Him from matter, the desire to enjoy, and this is called “form clothed in matter.”

We reveal not the Creator himself, but the actions that He performed in matter, and from them we attain Him, as it is written: “From Your actions we shall know You.”

We get into the matter itself. The Creator put Himself into matter, and we reveal ourselves as being in the same matter, and there we meet the Creator. Therefore, Atzmuto remains unattainable.
